Lost Shores Feedback Thread
Lol. “Refuse”. We are not seeing the circles early enough. And of course the dodge is not helpful if you press they key and the server recognizes it 10 seconds later.
And it IS the server. Tried to to far away to solo some young karkas with no other people nearby and the skills and movement were a bit laggy… because of the server. Not my computer.
…just out of curiosity – you say you should have gotten more crafting space without having to pay. How do you think money is made to cover the lack of subscription fee?
So the game is in such dire straits that it can’t afford to provide one stack of 250 for each crafting item? That’s impressive how sad that excuse is, really. But that’s all it is, really, an excuse, and a very bad one.
If you’re any sort of serious crafter, as I am, you’re keeping several stacks of these items available so you can craft throughout the year. And I’m not asking for infinite crafting storage like you’re trying to make it sound, just one stack’s worth. GW1 somehow managed to do it without sliding into the poor house, so forgive me if I don’t believe that they absolutely can’t afford to provide a function that existed in a game several years older than this one (the game that made them so much money that it led to them making this very game, in fact).
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
Challenge is fine, if it was from fighting the mobs. Unfortunately many of us are fighting the technical limitations of the game. Overflow maps have far too many people in them and it is causing the mobs to be culled. People were thinking that mobs were dropping in behind us, but it was actually mobs rolling over us and only started to render once they were behind the mass of players.
Add to that the problem with lag. My framerate is staying decent, but I’m being killed by effects that visibly land after I have been downed by them.
My only hope is that ArenaNet learns from this event and changes future events to function properly within the limitations of the game.
The Lost Shores was supposed to be an awesome update, with a new map, new enemies and lots of potential. But it turned out to be more of a failure.
-Too many lagg: Many people had very bad lagg during any event, especially at phase 1. I think I had the luck to be on my home server, I supposed overflow would have been even worse.
-One time event, why? This sucks, you dissapoint many people who also wants to join this, but they can’t, many because their time zone doesn’t allow it, or they had to do something important and now they can’t attend.
-Southsun Cove was not so exciting as we expected. There are balancing issues with mobs, but the worse thing is: There is nothing to do but some meta events that give the same rewards as any other event for your level.
-Stupid rewards: I expected some interesting rewards from Phase 1 / 2 events, but no, as mentioned above, the same useal rewards from any other event for your level, maybe the one time event would give some nice stuff, but I guess I’ll never know, because I died, WP’d back and now stuck on the loading screen for about 10 minutes already
I hope you’ll keep all of this in your mind when you’re going to introduce the December update.
Smough The Cruel [WvW] – Warrior
I have to agree with that. If these events are going to be laggy, at least don’t make the monsters 2-shot things.
Reading these forums is 100000000X more entertaining than this stupid event.
Reading these forums is 100000000X more entertaining than this stupid event.
This.
But seriously… please never do this again especially with upscaling and trials.
Mist Angels [Mist] – Piken Square
Yeah, it’s so fun watching the screen freeze, waiting 3 minutes and then being told I’m dead.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I’m 100% certain that they tested it. The problem is the same one that’s been occurring since beta, which is that certain things work perfectly until they release them publicly to be landed on by a kajillion players. They even let members of the press in earlier this week for a preview, and it apparently worked for all of them.
And yeah, I love ANet and GW2, which is why I know it must be hard to not see this go off well. I’m sure what they learn from this will help the next event.
Just crashed on the Ancient Karka part because you client appears to have a memory leak.
So now I’m sitting in an Overflow that hasn’t even planted the explosives. And it doesn’t look like they’ve got enough people to plant them…so I can either stick around and hope or relog and hope the next overflow doesn’t all ready have the event done.
Thanks, Anet, thanks for this one-time event.
there were massive lags and skills lagging
lucky you, you didn’t experience it that time
I quit doing that event, because I am not going to waste my silver and time.
I’m not one to complain, but this is the first time I’ve ever come across a performance issue in Guild Wars 2.
It’s lag. My FPS is perfect.
After the bomb demolition escort, the ancient karka reinforcements part is when half the overflow players started lagging- took 5 seconds for skills to work after initiating them, and the map chat is full of complaints from players saying how they can’t move, or anything.
I don’t think I’ll be able to finish the full event chain.
i agree i was expecting the entire sea of sarrows to be open with new areas with new enemys and events,
the main event on 1st day was kitten 2nd day was nothin 3rd i was hoping it will be over with after the 1st 20 min
and no reward doing everthing over and over again, they made it look like its something supream, the only thing i liked is FotM dungeon
you can dodge when you are knocked down/immobilized? Oh sorry, you meant that I have to dodge the AoE immobilizations, then the AoE knockdowns and then the AoE poisons, all the while being funneled into a bridge? Just how many dodges do you think I have?
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”
I made the mistake of trying to map on Southsun cove and have been watching a loading screen for the last 20 min. What fun.
I’m not trying to troll. I’m posing a serious discussion…
From what I can see, the main issues with these huge events are:
*Lag
*Rendering issues
*Poorly balanced mobs (one-shot to everyone in range is not fun)
*Zerg mentality (alt-tab afk ftw)
These issues could all be solved in 1 fell swoop; if each island was instanced and limited to a certain number of players (5? 10? 25?) then all of a sudden we don’t struggle to render all the people, the mobs can be balanced to pose a threat while not being overpowered, and what you do actually mattters. What I’m saying is that dungeons, raids etc were invented to avoid the sort of problems we are seeing.
Does anyone else feel this would have been far better as an epic multi player dungeon?
Could this extend to some of the more epic dynamic events which devolve into loot-tag fests?
The final problem with this is the holy trinity… I’m starting to miss it by the day.
I’m not worried about drops. Honestly I can’t understand when people complain about there not being a reward for doing this. The reward is the FUN. But honestly, is this fun?
Obvious troll is obvious.
Exactly.
Also enemies aren’t invisible.
Also you can dodge to avoid the AOE-just be smart.
And its funny seeing all the dead people around you while you happily continue the fight and dodge.how are you going to say there is not a culling issue lol? anet admits to it.
Fanbois still believe that the culling bug is a myth. :P
Typing this as the Ancient Karka event is happening atm …well because I can’t do anything else, abilities are taking easily 2 mins to go off lol, it’s absurd. I have to agree that the servers simply can’t handle these large numbers of people. If they have any sense at all Anet are going to have to create more shards to split the population for these kinds of things in the future.
Nothing gets released without testing. Be serious. There are tons of things that can go wrong with an event that cannot be accounted for in a live environment. I’m a developer myself and unfortunately the things above are something you try and plan for as much as possible but cannot always hotfix or patch immediately. I feel that Anet has been very prompt in responding to the issues during this event but I’m a little tired of seeing an attitude where a magic wand needs to be waved and all of the problems solved. This isn’t a required area of the game to play – it’s not hurting any other area of the game. So there’s no need to be a drama queen about the situation and say things like “Let me know when it’s fixed, I’ll be offline until then”. That’s just silly. Hotfixes still need to be tested and it takes time for patches to be deployed. They are not instant and require a LOT of work. I wonder if the devs aren’t sleeping in shifts to keep up with the demands during these one-time events.
While a live dev server is a great idea for some things it would ruin one-time events due to leaks and spoilers being posted all over the internet – so that theory needs to be thrown out. They are trying to be game changing. They obviously had some issues with this event. If they succeed – think about what that means for gameplay in the future.
I just feel like the majority of the threads are being unreasonable. Being disappointed is one thing – raging uncontrollably or the “I’ll never play this again” attitude is taking things a little too far.
I agree. These events need to be instanced. A 25 man event sounds about right.
OK, the buggy and imbalanced events earlier were all worth it. This final event is freaking epic. I’ve been on since it started and it’s still going on my overflow server. Oh my god I love you guys.
In short pull your head out of your rear.
I’m just chill’n where the Ancient spawns and chatting in /map
‘F’ this event.
I am sleeping in a tent at Canach’s Fally. ^^
Any business: look at what you’re good at, look at what you’re sucky at.
ANet: great dungeons, fun game
ANet: can’t program quests to run, can’t handle large scale combat
Remember what went well with Mad King – jumping puzzle, dungeon, labrynth
Don’t make an event that depends on the stuff you suck at.
Put this event into a fractal and it’d be awesome.
Another huge problem is the disconnects. This sounds like a minor issue, except that the main events’ progress is server-bound… meaning that if you get disconnected, you will find yourself in a completely different version of the event when you return and lose all your previous event progress.
Odds are fairly good (in my experience) that the new version of the event will be one of the following:
1.) Already over.
2.) In progress with no or insufficient players, resulting in instant death and no rez.
3.) Have moved on to a different place or not have moved yet, meaning you’re suddenly in the wrong area with multiple mobs between you and where you need to be, again with no one to help.
This is another server load issue – we’re getting disconnected because the servers are working too hard. That just can’t happen, though, if event progress is lost when you get kicked into a different overflow. I literally have not gotten credit for a single scheduled event I attended because of this, including ones I participated heavily in but then got booted before the end.

..only to find this.
After 1 hour and 30 minutes of autohitting crabs i pulled an alt+F4
And yes i stayed until the bigger crab. The ancient. More autohitting.
Why on gods earth would you advertise this as an epic one time event? People actually prioritize this thing cus of the advertising, when they could do more fun stuff. Like watching the grass grow, in winter.
I still love you, the game, and WvW tho. You aint getting rid of me, but i will never expect anything from any one time events again. They just don’t deliver any epicness at all. FYI the new zone, dungeon and stuff is awsome and thank you so much for that Anet. we love you. But please work on making one-time events actually epic instead of just randomly kill 1 type of enemy for 1 silver.. Its really really really not epic at all.
First phase was extremely lagged and bugged.
Second phase was basically nothing.
Third phase was plagued with lag and culling issues, and reinforcement portions go on for way, way too long.
It’s kind of a bummer because it seems like the basics of the idea were amazing, so I hope this let’s ArenaNet know how important culling and server-side issues are in the future. They really should have been a No. 1 priority even before new content.
Like a lot of things in this game, the big picture is amazing and awesome, but the little stuff is so terrible it overshadows the rest.
Signed. They do so much so well, it is a shame that we are seeing more and more large scale events, which do not work, instead of more awesome dungeons etc..
Why fix the broken features of the vanilla game when you can just add new broken content on top of it?
If you’re going to make an event drag for 2 hours, at least add variety to the mechanics. Sitting there killing the same mobs over and over with the same mechanics is just tedious.
Oh and the rewards?…
Agree,
The battle of ascalon in fotm is another example of this problem. I’m getting 10fps with my AMD 8150 FX and Radeon 6970. If they want to push out massive battles they have to ensure their client supports them, other wise it will just be frustrating to the end user.

Why fix the broken features of the vanilla game when you can just add new broken content on top of it?
This game is a failure, of course the events are
“it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun, rather than having fun”
Guild missions say otherwise.
Please also fix your scaling system
its been 2 hours and we are still wiping in overflow …
Quantity != quality.
Agreed with OP, this type of event doesn’t need to happen again. This game sells itself on its engaging combat and need to respond quickly to your foe’s attacks. This event simply isn’t playing to this game’s strenghts.
This game is a failure, of course the events are
That’s completely over-the-top. This game is great. The one-time event just had too many issues to ignore.
I’d love to see 25 man instancing of these things. It could be troublesome finding a party, but perhaps if you had the option to be either randomly assigned a group, or work with a pre-made team, it would work extremely well.
4 hours into this event and at Stage 2 of pushing back the Ancient Karka, I can only imagine the dev team had this much fun too, playtesting their event to maximize player enjoyability.
Signed………………….
This event is an absolute nightmare, reinforcements go on for hours, repetetive to the extreme, not fun at all in any way shape or form….

The whole series of world events of the lost shores are big jokes.
I could barely put up with the massive lag and cannot complete event PLUS no reward at all (if fix my armor of the stupid lag means rewards, then I got LOTS of rewards)
And now I have just been disconnected from the last world event, our outflow was in the final stage of killing the enforcement for the 2nd boring time…. Then I had a massive lag then cut, when I log in, my new outflow were just in the beginning stage…. And I am done with the final event of massive reward of 11Silver repair bill and a boring 1.5 hr memory.
Why bother making a long event when it’s not fun at all?
Why bother keep letting us got killed and expecting us repair our armor when there is not reward at all?
Why bother making a new island when everyone prefer the new dungeon?
You might as well just shut down all the PVE maps, just leave Lion’s Arch with many Ausra gate that connects to all dungeons, and it will be called Dungeon Wars 2 with our Favorited Trading Post.
Oh btw, I believe that this new update has increased the potential of using revival orb by A LOT, don’t event think of going to P2W Arenanet, we player would love to pay you when we think it is worth it.
Chief Charr Charr
it’s the reinforcements part.. that takes WAY to long, the other pieces to the event were pretty cool… the reinforcements is stupid.
The event only started 2 hours ago.
You have not been doing it for 4 hours.
Oh man, I really love Arenanet right now! This finale event is really great and all their polishing shows. To think of the testing they must have done, for this amazing, past weekend.
There wasn’t even a single bugged NPC. When I did Inspector Kiel’s thing, I kept worrying I was going to get hooked, but run into a bug, preventing me from advancing. The fact that this didn’t happen actually made me feel like this was a horror movie. That part where you look behind you, see nothing, and expect to turn around and have it staring infront of you? Only it didn’t happen?
I could barely sleep that night, I was so eager to see Phase 2. They opened the boat early and let us go to Southsun Cove. The area took a while to explore, but it was worth it. And the enemies were well-balanced. And it ended Phase 2 without any abrupt cliffhangers like in other games.
Running out of room, I’ll make another post.
4 hours into this event .
I do agree 2 hours feels like 4 while autohitting.
