Hello There!

My english it’s not that good, so please, forgive my poor english grammar.

So, it’s very simple, if you were choose a feature you most enjoyed in Guild Wars 1 to Guild Wars 2, what would you choose?

My answer:
What I really enjoyed from Guild Wars 1 was the ability to “steal” skills from dead bosses, with a signet of capture you were able to choose one skill from a nearby dead boss of your profession.

You have another feature? so, tell us! Who knows the devs can hear you!

Yes! If they could even get half of the balance they had between classes in GW1, then I would play this game so much more often.

-First feature I miss dearly as a co-leader of a guild is the “time stamp” of how long it has been sense your guildie has logged on.
-Second feature I miss the “follow” feature that way I could set my toon to follow someone and while it’s following I would entertain my companion with chat.
Dear Devs Pretty please consider at least the first feature, guild roasters are a mess in every guild.

PvE class balance.

Wait, there was PVE class balance in GW1? It was way worse than in GW2. Oh right, PVE-only skills were well balanced (because everyone had access to them)

As for a GW1 feature that I’d love to see in GW2, it’s the interface… I loved how I could keep CTRL pressed and when I clicked anywhere my character would say something:

I’m suffering from Blindness! Healer presses T to target → uses condition removal skill
My health is 10/500! Healer presses T to target → uses heal skill to save you
I’m suffering from Backfire! Means if I’m a caster I will be useless for a while, unless someone/me removes it
My current skillbar is: “<skill list>” Self explanatory
I’m using Ressurection Signet on <target> So others won’t waste their skill on the same target as well

And so on and so on, it made having voice chat less of an issue and since we don’t have in-game voice chat and have to rely on external applications, this interface pinging could go a long way to help in group coordination.

I loved how you could customize the UI to how you liked it. Move things around. I had my skill bar moved to the top of the screen there, as that felt more natural to me. Also, if you didn’t like parts of the UI, you could turn them off. Your screen was as cluttered or streamlined as you wanted.

We’ve lost so much. By Nightfall, the enemy groups were coming closer to resembling proper opponent teams. This on it’s own would make GW2 far more interesting.

Making ranged combat actually rewarding (instead of melee’s poor cousin) would be another change that I would love. A class with poor armour or extremely low HP (or both, in the ele’s case) should be best played at range, instead of melee. The risk in the “risk vs. reward” equation is the low HP/armour. This would go a long way towards balancing the whole 4 zerker warriors and a mes are the ideal team nonsense we have going on right now.

How about letting us the player be the hero of our “personal story”? I’ve not completed that on any char other than my main, because playing second fiddle to the salad person just irritates me to no end.

The lack of any sense of urgency to the storyline is another issue. In the original games, there was a sense of everything depending upon what you’re doing or else the world will end. Now that we’re faced with the end of our world, we, the heroes are just waffling about, ignoring the whole undead dragon thing, because it doesn’t seem like there’s any urgency to it.

The ability to adjust every feature in the UI. That’s missing, and I really don’t understand why. It was an excellent feature, and would fit the Play the game, not the UI idea they were pushing before release.

There’s more, so very much more, but this is all that comes to mind before coffee.

EDIT: Total separation of the PvP vs WvW/PvE balance. By the end of GW1 they had this down – they stopped. Much like the first game, this is driving away the player base. Balancing the whole game around 10% of your playerbase was a failure in GW1, and it’s still a failure here. I don’t understand how they missed this. The needs of the two game types are completely different, and need to be addressed differently. There’s also the uber-elitist attitude of that 10% vs. the fact that pve/wvw players who want the neat stuff are the ones who pay for the game. It’s a simple truth – the game market is driven by PvE style games (Skyrim, oblivion, uncharted, Fable, etc). The highest grossing games are always targeted at PvE/adventure/platformer style gameplay. PvP is a niche market – one with enormous money behind it, but still a very small segment.

Not saying PvP isn’t important – balance there is far more important than balance in PvE – still, you don’t get more money by upsetting the largest section of your playerbase.

It would be easier to say what GW2 feature I would bring to GW, and that feature would be jumping.

Granted it would be easier to say that but I would like to see some GW1 features go away first.

No heroes/henchies.
No PVE only skills.
I think its safe to say that the 2 listed above pretty much killed off a large part of the social aspect of gw1.
No grind this amount of title before you can proceed.
No titles that give you an edge in PVE content.
No useless skills (as in the skill can be used ,but there are better versions available that kitten your build less)
Though I liked the cross proffesion system a lot, I would like to see a better dedicated to a single proffesion system instead.

GW2 thankfully removed a lot of these gripes, but brought issues of its own for me. But instead I’ll just say what I wish it still had from GW1.

The skill diversity (not the same exact skills save for a token few, but the option to do your own unique thing)

Skill quality (I cant stand skills that do something for 3 seconds with cooldowns hitting up to 1 minute or more)

Skillbar customisation (you could change the order of your skills to the one you prefer and decide wether you wanted to use a elite skill or not)

Team synergy as in real synergy not just spamming boons and hope for the best.
Example: Mesmer dedicates to shutting down mage class enemies, so the warriors/eles/etc can mop them up. Rangers utilising spirits to turn hostile enviromental damage into a different element, so the elementalist can cast a superior defensive ward against that type of element or simply deal more damage with their spells that were previously at a disadvantage. To name a few.

The superior UI (you could pretty much customise EVERYTHING the way you wanted it to)

Missions ( I probably miss these the most, theres barely a reason to group up in gw2 except for dungeons. You can solo the rest of the content, except for group events. But everyone just meets up there and dissolves after the event. I loved interacting with other players in missions, actually saving them from a tough situation or the other way around. )

Armor variety (Not just I’ll just pull this human armor over my charr and hope it works)

Enemies (at the end of the game some enemies had pretty balanced fighting groups and were pretty strong if you underestimated them. Bossfights were more engaging for me, but thats probably just because I hate 1shot mechanics. Regardless the bosses werent much alone, but in a group they could make a huge difference.)

Skillhunting (It was so much fun hunting for elite skills in all the parts of the world. Actually giving a reason to explore the nooks and crannies of the world, other than just for the sake of exploring .)

Its a kitten shame that I’m missing so much from its previous installment. I can barely have fun playing this game.

Amazed no one has said this yet: spectator mode when you’re dead.

That feature saw so many good uses… Teaching people how to do certain things, skill rotations, etc. Not being bored to death when you get defeated and your party is stuck in combat for a couple of minutes etc…

That and UW/FoW as a proper elite area with some decent rewards would be a nice change.

Customizeable UI. It’s hard to believe that the GW UI from 2005 is more user-friendly, and has far more options than the GW2 UI from 2012.

This UI is not only worse than one 7 years older, it’s probably the most clunky and antiquated one I’ve ever had in any MMO. They really got lazy with this one.

I’d like to more diversity between zones of regions. I loved Queensdale, but got bored with the blandness of Kessex and Harathi. I found something missing in the squareish mid level zones. Ascalon too lacked a certain uniqueness. Going from Ascalon – shiverpeaks – Kryta felt like a big deal in Prophecies. I just don’t quite feel that here.

And dervishes. Before they ruined them in the “re balance”, they were the most fun I have had with any class.

I will say though, I’m happy that the games are different. I didn’t want GW1 rehashed…I have GW1, its great and I can play it at will. There’s just a different feel to this one which slightly niggles at me. Hasn’t stopped me enjoying every last second though

Skills— more diversity and duel profession

Loot- More interesting drops, I am so missing the named boss drops and the rare unique weapons as well as the old chest farming from gw1

classes— I misss my monk soooooooooo much

I do love the game ,but given how successful gw1 was over so many years the fundamental basics that we all loved are missing.
Even though this is a new game and new direction that anet has taken surely they must be thinking that they need to incorporate more of the successful parts of gw1 into gw2 before the hardcore fans of the first one are lost to other games.
They say they are always listening to the community and taking our advice yet there are still so many players putting threads like this up and complaints about balance of classes and skills that go unanswered hopefully they do listen and are trying to implement some of the stuff we miss so badly

Yes, the storyline sucks and is a huge letdown compared to how good for an online game the coop missions and story of the GW1 campaigns were.

We’ve lost so much. By Nightfall, the enemy groups were coming closer to resembling proper opponent teams. This on it’s own would make GW2 far more interesting.

Exactly, right now it’s only about packing them and spamming all your AoE – actually, worse, all your skills. I remember when you had to pay attention in NF to the mobs duplication spell, or to the healer or any profession that could be a problem depending on the situation.

And ofc elite missions (uw, DoA…) and once again a rewarding gameplay as there was in gw1 ie builds, lots of skills, maybe even dual professions (hell, I was so happy to have back this gameplay in the Secret World, even though it was a major source of whine because apparently this made the game too hard).

Sadly, we most likely will never see all of this back in GW2. About the Canthan/Elonian stuff (location, classes, etc) just wait for the expansions which will probably be GW2 : Cantha and GW2 : Somewhere-in-the-south-where-Elona-and-the-water-dragon-are.
