Honestly, if it isn’t an expansion I might go pick up Dragon Age Inquisition finally and give that a go for a few weeks until my disappointment fades. Really not trying to get hyped, but I’ve wanted an expansion for a long time now so it’s hard not to be a bit hopeful.

Well, I have no expectations there will be an expansion with Heart of Thorns, so if there is no expansion, I will not be disappointed as I didn’t expect it :-D

It wouldn’t really surprise me at all. Arenanet has been over-hyping mediocre content since launch.

Seriously tho, why go to all this effort is it not something huge. Big announcement is coming on Saturday with internet personalities after the show. I mean afterall, the Queen herself will be there. If Anet is really that stupid, I can only hear WP and MV now while they try to find the words after hearing something so disappointing and dismal.

Doesn’t matter what form it takes, expac, LS, a mix of the 2… If it’s content (a lot of it) then I’ll play again. If it’s not and they keep doing their crappy 30 minutes worth of content every 2 weeks then I’ll just keep playing other games.

Depends on how you define community.

The in game community will most likely just keep enjoying the game and whatever they do announce. So pretty much same old same old.

The caustics on the forums will also do what they do every day – complain, yell and claim to quit the game every 2-3 days. Again, same old same old.

Let’s face it the game, even with frequent updates, is very stale for most people.

This is the right time to bring major new content, areas, professions, etc… that they would probably never do without an expansion.

I still doubt it’s an xpan and if it is an xpan I’m doubtful of it having an xpan worth of satisfying additions because Anet has a habit of being unexpectedly disappointing with announcements. Well… to the point of where it’s expected naow. They are just bad at controlling hype and living up to it. I do hope they prove me wrong though.

What will happen if Hot is not Xpac? Nothing special. Most players will stay but lose interest slowly, causing less income for Anet. And they will react by freezing the game and keep it up for a few years with a few small updates. Than move on to other games.

I’m obviously not expecting a Guild Wars 3 or anything, but if what they release doesn’t amount to the hype ANet is intentionally fueling, we all have a right to be upset, whether you’re hyped or not hyped.

I on the other hand am a firm believer in the journey being more exciting then the destination. Therefore I have given myself permission to totally enjoy being a giddy passenger on the Hype Train. If, it turns out there is no expansion, so be it. Life goes on, and there is definitely a delicious double XP weekend to enjoy

I am off on Saturday and intend to eat a wonderful breakfast, then sit in my comfy chair with my feet propped up, steaming hot mug of coffee in my hand, and watch the Twitter Stream

I take the path of playing a bunch of indie games. Which have been more satisfying then anything that has come out in the last few years from these big time publishers/developers. For instance I have been playing sinking more hours into Don’t Starve then GW2 at the moment. I even go back into my back catalog of games and play a bunch community created content for those older games. Recently been playing a bunch of Command and Conquer mods through Tunngle (since EA dropped the ball with their online play). Honestly though I am not hyping up HoT project. Simply because I know Arena Net when it comes to executing their overly ambitious plans. So unless it’s a total 360 turnaround then I am not going to join in with these excessively enthusiastic group of individuals.

Heart of Thorns is really a new novel in the Guild Wars 2 series, this time about a Sylvari who has trouble trusting others enough to let them in…

Part of me hopes its just living story season 3 and not an Xpac. Just so more people can feel the crushing disappointment that I feel for such a promising game going nowhere for over 2 years.

I’ll flip my table, and then realize the only person to blame here is me. I shouldn’t expect anything of ArenaNet.

i think the living story is great as a content distribution method, they just need the meaty content people want to distribute.

so, if it turns out to be living story season 3 or whatever, then fine. as long as they announce content, who cares how it is delivered?

I go out ant eat some hot tacos, spicy tacos! Then back and start level my 3rd alt, a Mesmer as human. Some bad cause i really want a new race Mesmer :P

I don’t honestly expect a traditional MMO expansion.

The wording of the original announcement of the PAX event kind of implies otherwise IMO.

We will see. (and I am more than happy to be wrong on this matter).

I’m hopeful it’s an expansion (or an expansion’s worth of content), but if it isn’t, I’m not upset. It might mean I finally have time to get started on my backlog of other games.

I’d be very disappointed and sad that an awesome mmo will only have a month or so left of play before I move on.

It is my sincere hope that if they don’t announce an Xpac then all the people who keep begging for an xpac will finally give up and stop mentioning it on the forums.

Before the game even released ArenaNet clearly stated that it didn’t intend to make traditional expansions. Expecting an Xpac from ArenaNet is like expecting a vegan bakery to sell raw meat.

They haven’t “promised” anything. Sometimes I’m convinced that people hear/see what they want to irrespective of what’s actually there.

The only hype being “fuelled” is that generated by a minority of people on this forum who are making things up on the spot and declaring them as fact. There has been very little hype generated at Anet’s end other than a trailer.

I haven’t seen any evidence that it is an expansion. But if this is the case Anet should have squashed this rumour from the beginning, and the fact they haven’t is what has fuelled the speculation. Usually a future big release is surrounded by decent leaks (usually intentional), I’m not aware of any.

If this isn’t a massive update (expansion) I’m pretty sure the pitch fork and torches will come out, and rightly so. Given Anet’s tendency to over hype their actual releases, pitch folks and torches might be more exciting.

On a related note, I always thought Anet said the game would be free to play after initial purchase, so if this is still the case, then any big update should be free (as the others have been before it).
