I like the fact that it’s perfect for a casual gamer.

I work full time, lots of time with fiance. This is the only mmo besides old Runescape that I can log into for an hour or 2 a night and accomplish things. Not spend a huge amount of time in queues or anything. Just simply play

I enjoy so many things about this game. For one, I am a casual player as well. I can sometimes only get on for an hour a night or so because I run a pretty busy schedule. I love how I can get on and just relax and play though. There is no big rush to do anything, and the game is very versatile allowing me to play pvp one night and pve the next night if I wanted to.

This might be trivial, but I love the music in the game. It does not get old fast like some games, and unless I am on Skype I usually have the game volume on. The graphics are also great and a lot better than most MMOs.

I love being able to play any class with any race without being forced to heal or tank. Each class has a substantial amount of survivability. My favorite is still my charr ranger. =P

Lack of subscription. I like the Developers/their vision.

I can get anything in-game without the need to spend real cash, if I so desire.

It’s always available/little to no downtime.

Most importantly, I can play it with Master. =)

- The combat and lack of dedicated roles.
- No shared loot or resource nodes.
- The animations are great. My characters feel like they have weight to them, and I love that they have separate animations when running and jumping, and when standing still and jumping. Most games don’t have this, or does it poorly.
- Lastly, the ability to mix-and-match armor, though I’m a little disappointed with the selection at the moment.

Animations are great, I’ve literally been stuck in the Pvp area for the last two years and finally decided to peak around the world getting map completion.
The art style is very unique and all round looks amazing, I often feel in Mmos that the scenery is just there to complete a map and not really have a purpose. In this game the mobs and the locations look like they should be there and this helps immersion.

I like the reward track system, although i play allot I just mess around mainly in pvp and been able to earn money and gear from that is a real plus. Although i don’t like the disenchanting so much ha, and my chest clicking finger is so muscular now that it may break kitten through my desk.

As mentioned above I like the cooperative nature and not needing a group whilst helping people out is great plus. And lastly I’ve always liked Guild wars armor, my favorite part of the first game was farming that special armor.

Funny enough some of the things I’ve complained about are also the things I like the most.
I like the active combat, the art, no gear treadmill, no level increase, casual pve, the story, which is something I never gave a fair chance, but now I really enjoy it. Overall I really like that I could stop playing for a year and jump right back in and be at the same gear level as everyone else. Not having to commit a ton of time to the game is what draws me back time after time.

  • No server downtime, GW2 servers (physical machines) have been brought down only once during the game’s lifetime (to implement the Account Wallet). Other MMORPGs have “maintenance days” often, which is terrible
  • Client streaming, you can download the important parts of the game and start playing quickly, without the need to download parts you won’t anyway see on day one of a patch/expansion. It’s not perfect like the GW1 version, but they are improving it.
  • No servers to split the community
  • The Trading Post. I do not agree with some items being sold on the TP (Legendaries) but in general that’s how Auction Houses should be in games. Instead of posting something for cheap then watch the price skyrocket as players bid for more, in GW2 we have the “reverse” system
  • The mix of action and tab-target combat system. Action-like enough, but with the click system it’s also possible to enjoy the game when you have higher latency, something much harder in pure action MMORPGs.
  • The PVP build system, making sure players are all on the same page when they do structured PVP
  • World PVP that tries to keep good match-ups between opposing factions by rotating sides based on a ranking system. Keeps World vs World fresh. Also, the idea of having 3 sides instead of the “usual” 2
  • The art style, good painted aesthetic
  • The build system itself, where players can be fully working and powerful on their own, without the need for others. Healing skills for everyone is a great addition to the MMORPG (and RPG) genres
  • No competition in PVE for resources or mob tags, full cooperative environment
  • A dynamic event system instead of hunting for exclamation marks. Kill quests, escort quests, defend quests, boss kill quests, gather quests, in effect the meat and bone of MMORPG/RPG questing is much better done in the Dynamic event system than traditional questing.
  • No annoying quest prerequisites and quest chains you can’t share with your party, no missing the reward if you do things while “you didn’t have the quest in your quest log”
  • No stupid phasing or in general splitting the community based on which quest they have active

No kill stealing, no node stealing, I can play with a friend and not have to alternate node tapping, no gear treadmill, quasi-action combat (little to no “rooted by skill use”), I bought the game rather than bought it and need to rent it also, most enjoyable play of any MMO (sometimes), I can ignore the meta and not feel like I’m missing the best parts of the game, non-intrusive cash shop, lore connections to GW, the art, and the fluidity of movement in the character models.

I really enjoy the fact that the races aren’t the typical fantasy races such as dwarf, elf, etc, etc. and they give REASONS why some of those races don’t exist, like the dwarves.

Additionally I love doing map completions in low-level zones and seeing everyone help one another. Just yesterday I saw players saying how much better of a community this is than the WoW community. Makes me smile

I like the combat system and setting up combos, especially as an ele. The play style is very fluid.
Also the graphics and the fluidity of how the characters move, and how you can still cast while moving and the animation just works.
I tried a couple of the more “modern” MMOs and they just were awful in comparison in this respect (even just simple things like walking around).
The artwork is gorgeous too.
I also like that it is a fairly casual game, and buy to play.

Lots of things.

Top of the list for me has to be the lack of a subscription fee and the casual friendly nature of the game (I think these two things go hand in hand). I’m an adult with an unpredictable work schedule and all kinds of other things that come up, so I can’t depend on having hours every day to play, or even time in each week.

In many MMOs that would mean I’m forever behind everyone else, will probably never have top tier equipment, never do at least some of the end-game content etc. In GW2 it takes me longer but because they don’t keep adding new levels, new tiers, new gated content etc. I can catch up eventually.

I also like that Tyria is not your typical fantasy world. No it’s not totally original (you’d have a hard time finding one that is) but it’s different enough that it makes it interesting to explore the lore because I don’t know what I’m going to find in advance.

There’s tons of other things too, I love the art style, I find the combat system fun, and I love all the detail they put into the world. The fact that it’s hard to find a genuinely empty corner of the map, there’s always NPCs to listen/talk to, jumping puzzles and mini dungeons hidden away, and if an area looks empty there’s probably going to be an event there sooner or later.

  • No gear resets, extreme diminishing returns on power gain per time invested once you hit full exotic, account-bound gear!
  • f2p. I recently came back after a long break, bought the S2 episodes that I missed and don’t feel like I’m far behind.
  • Combat system (the concept at least): few skills, active defenses, no tanks
  • The way professions feel different when playing
  • Shared loot, shared nodes
  • Account-bank, account-storage, account-wide achievements, account-wide unlocks, etc

I only play this game to WvW with my friends and family, although I am able to do so with only part of my family currently due to my sister not being able to get on my server, so we are looking for other games that we can play together on currently since we really have no interest in PVE content. I Honestly would be happy if I never had to interact with an NPC ever, and would rather the players make the story than have it written for us.. LOL

What I like about GW2 the most is the large scale PvP, the larger the better. 3 way massive brawls that go on for hours. I like how the targets in wvw can be attacked from multiple directions and that the maps are not linear or choke pointed, allowing for better game play. If nothing else, the EoTM maps should be killed with fire for that reason. The best fights are when you are being double teamed outnumbered in your garrison with all the walls and gates down and you are fighting in lords for hours from all directions without siege. That way if you win you feel like you earned it.

I like a lot of things about GW2 – it’s right in the sweet spot for me in many ways.

  • Pay once and play as much as you like
  • The lore and that it is not Standard Fantasy Lore #234235
  • The sense of humor (the Asura make me happy in so many ways)
  • The many different ways of playing the game. I don’t play PvP and rarely WvW, but I appreciate that they are there. But in PvE alone, I like the diversity of activity: jumping puzzles, combat, exploration, story, big group stuff like the Silverwastes, etc etc etc.
  • The collaborative nature and the way that the game mechanics themselves encourage it
  • A healthy gender diversity in NPCs
  • The fact that there are little bits of story everywhere. Sometimes I just hang around different areas to listen to the dialog of the NPCs.
  • I really liked the Living Story, esp. Season 1. Having a new thing to see every 2 – 4 weeks was awesome, even if it was just a little thing.
  • Super Adventure Box is awesome.
  • The fact that (once you ignore the meta-obsessed people) you can use many different play styles and still be reasonably effective.
  • How dungeons have a story mode and then several exploreable modes
  • The variety of achievements available, especially the collection style achievements
  • The combat system. It feels dynamic, but not a system that requires high-twitch uber hand eye coordination to be viable
  • The holiday events are pretty fun, even the PvP activities. I especially like that not all of the activities are combat-based (the holiday bells, Sanctum Sprint)
  • Kasmeer and Marjory (a lot of people seem to dislike them, but I always liked them)
  • How the various races feel like actually different cultures (though I wished they’d diversify the subcultures in the races)
  • The Cattle-pult
  • Air Dagger 1 on the Elementalist – I love the animations and the effects
  • How easy it is to separate the look of your armor from the stats it provides
  • The art style and theme, esp. Rata Sum and the Crucible of Eternity (what can I say, I like glow-y float-y stuff)
  • Hobo-Tron and my Replica Hobo-Tron backpack

The fact I can, at least, play an animal pet class (however imperfect).

That’s about it, really.

The fact it totally puts off people, who prefer to play ranged, by penalising their damage, is amateurish and a great shame.

Another one to add to the list (although I’m sure someone else has already said it): Genuinely cooperative PvE.

You never have to worry about another player stealing your kills, or gathering nodes or credit for the quest you’re doing and often having complete strangers around is very helpful.

For example just now I died in the north west corner of Brisban Wildlands, at 9am on a Sunday morning. It’s not peak time, it’s a remote area of a mid-level map and I’m not near any of the gathering nodes which are the only reason most people visit this area. I go to make a cup of tea and come back to find an anonymous stranger has taken the time to go out of their way to resurrect me, for absolutely no benefit to themselves except a tiny bit of XP and maybe the knowledge that they’re reinforcing that it’s simply what you do in this game.
