What's Missing from Material Storage?
~Opp N Heimer
A lot of scribing materials need added to it. When I make things for scribing it fills up all my bags and the components are still needed, but not depositable for many recipes.
I think most or all of these have been mentioned already but here are the things I could think of:
Mill basins
copper/silver/gold/platinum doubloons
Blood Rubies
Petrified Wood
Tenebrous/Shimmering crystals
Amalgamated gemstones
Philosopher Stones
Mystic Crystals
Bottle Of Elonian Wine
Chak Eggs
Reclaimed Metal Plates
Arid/Ascalon Lumber cores
Legendary insights
Unidentified Dye
16GB RAM; AMD Radeon 6970M 2GB VRAM
Hi, Some I could think of.
Bloodstone Rubies
Petrified Wood
Fractal Research Pages
Golden Fractal Relic
Reclaimed Metal Plates
Chak Eggs
Blade Shards
Baubles
Bauble Baubles
Tenebrous Crystal
Shimmering Crystal
Vision Crystal
Lesser Vision Crystal
Anything that’s used as currency, especially bloodstone rubies, old event currency like Queen’s Gauntlet Entrance Tickets, and especially crafting items from Miyani. If it can’t roll into material Storage, turn them into wallet items across the entire account. If keys that unlock chests in the new HoT zones can’t be added into material storage, could they become wallet bound across the entire account? The currency for vendors already is, it doesn’t seem like a stretch to include them as wallet instead of material storage if there are too many for material storage.
Can keys go into the wallet? What else are they used for.
Restore that which was lost. And all shall be as one.”
Amalgamated Gemstones, Blade Shards, Doubloons, Vision Crystals, Icy Runestones, Milling Basins, Philosopher Stones, Mystic Forge Stones, Bottle of Elonian Wine, guild hall decorations items, Scribe Craft Mats, Augur’s stone
Not sure if they count as crafting item or as currency:
Reclaimed Metal Plates, Chak Eggs, Unidentified fossilized insects
Wallet Items/Currencies/etc.:
Bloodstone Rubies, Petrified Wood, Baubles and Bauble Bubbles
Those sit in my bank forever, I would love to see them stored somewhere:
Continue Coins, Festival Tokens, Bounties, Agony Infusions, Boosters, Legendary Gifts, Exploration Gifts, Fractal Research Pages, Tomes of Knowledge, Writs of Experience, WvW Blueprints, BL Chests, Ugly Woll Socks
What I would love to see:
A way to store lore books like the journals from the Bloodstone fen
Unused Skins: Maybe there is a way to add them to the wardrobe?
Lots of people have the same things I want. There are many very similar lists here.
On the Keys that you won’t address, I’d like to offer an alternative idea. A key ring that can hold all the keys but only a small amount like 5 of each. Then you sell key ring expansions in the gem store to increase the capacity.
This would be a complete separate storage so I know it would be more work and maybe impossible or take too much time, but if nothing else, please think about a storage for currencies that don’t fit in with your philosophy of what can go in our wallet or crafting material storage.
IMO, these are the items that fill up all our characters inventory’s the fastest and it keeps getting worse as new currencies like these keep getting added. Another idea would to consider all these currency’s worthy of our wallet.
(edited by Earlywood.7438)
blade shards, amalgamated gemstones, insights, blood rubies, petrified wood, mystic forge stones… And on the note of this, can we get a wallet tab for Crystalline ore, considering vendors take it and we can’t see how much we have on the go unless it’s like carried with us?
Blade shards, also components used in Mystic Forge such as Mystic Forge Stones, Eldritch Scrolls, Philosopher Stones, and such.
What should NOT be added, imo, but are listed a lot in this thread:
- Gifts for legendary crafting (seriously why do people list these? Don’t they count as Linsey’s “definitely not” crafted components?)
Gift of Battle, Gift of Exploration are NOT crafted components.
- Tenebrous Crystals
- Shimmering Crystals
- Petrified Wood
Definitely These:
Amalgamated Gemstones
Milling Basins
Essences of Luck (since these are actually used in crafting recipes)
Shimmering Crystals
Tenebrous Crystals
Blood Rubies
Petrified Wood
Vision Crystals
Philosophers Stones
Mystic Crystals
Doubloons
Maybe These:
Reclaimed Metal Plates
Chak Eggs
Mystic Forge Stones
Golden Fractal Relics
+1 Agony Infusions
Here is my giant wish list. I tried to be conservative on what should be added.

- Ascalonian Lumber Core
- Palm Lumber Core
- Festive Transom

- Pruning Shear
- Linen Rope (Refined version of flax fiber like wood planks)
- Stein of Hearty Ale (only used in 1 recipe so far so it is a stretch)
(The following could go either way. These are the items that drop. I’d lean towards not including them to encourage people to turn them into the guild hall rather than save them)
- Shatterer Crystal
- Vale Guardian Piece
- Triple Trouble Tooth
- Gorseval Tentacle
- Chak Gerent Eye
- Tequatl Tailbone
- Sabetha Flamethrower Fragment
- Mordremoth Mandible
- Keep Construct Rubble

Doubloons
Will update once Path of Fire releases.
Xunlai Electrum Ingots.
Put them in or take them out please. It’s been nearly 3 years of an empty slot! Please!
How about pressing the button “Deposit All Materials” and anything already in the bank that Stacks will be added too. I bet you would sell a lot of bank tabs.
Thank you so much for finally looking into this. After a stroll through my bank this is a list of the items I would love to be able to deposit to my material storage.
- Tenebrous & Shimmering Crystals
- Bladeshards
- Petrified wood
- Blood rubies
- Non craftable legendary gifts (such as gift of exploration, jungle, tarir, fleet etc.)
- All dubloons
- Vision & Lesser vision crystals (though these are craftable, crafting is not the only way to obtain them)
- Chak eggs
- Reclaimed metal plates
- +1 Agony infusions
- Amalgamated gemstones
Please remember that this is “Material Storage”. Not “Stuff I Don’t Want To Spend Bank Slots On Storage”. Items that are not used in crafting or mystic forge recipes are VERY unlikely to be chosen. Sigils, Runes, Tomes of Knowledge, Boosters, etc are all not going to be chosen to add.
EDIT: That said, I am still very seriously considering things like Chak Eggs, Blood Rubies, and Petrified Wood.
I’d like to have slots for sigils/runes/boosters/etc, but not because I don’t want to spend money on bank slots. It’s the functionality and clean organization of material storage that I want. Let me pay for bank slots that sort sigils/runes/boosters/etc, and allow me to deposit them like other materials, and I would be a happy camper. Then I could spend more time actually playing the game and less time organizing my bank slots.
Putting my votes in for:
- Blood rubies
- Petrified wood
- Tenebrous crystals
- Shimmering crystals
- Blade Shards
- Doubloons
- Chak eggs
- Philsopher’s stone
- Reclaimed metal plates
- Agony infusions
- Mystic forge stones
- Indigo mushrooms
- Milling basins
- Lumber cores
- Strategic defence maps of the mists
And I know that they don’t really count but tonics. I know they’re not technically materials but I’d be much more interested in collecting them if they didn’t just take up inventory/bank space I could use for something else.
God kitten trophies! You have to collect them for legendaries and achievements and there is nowhere to store them.
Would Superior Sigils and Runes be too many things? If not, that’d be a nice addition.
~EW
A much better implementation, and a much-needed one, in my opinion, would be to have a “sell all sigils” option with vendors. I am supposing that you would like this option to allow for an easier job of mass salvaging (now with salvage all option) green/blue/etc items and immediately depositing all mats to clear inventory. I would like to see that instead of a material tab (since it’s not really a material), there’s an option to sell all to vendors, similar to “sell junk.” Maybe this could work for rare and masterwork sigils, but not exotics?
I agree about blade shards, chak eggs, mysitic forge stones, etc. I also suggest resonating slivers.
I undertsand why you don’t want to put crafted things in. Would it be hard to at least make more things stackable in the bank, like the various salvage kits, harvesting tools, etc.?
Every month I end up getting quite a few BL salvage kits. It’s great to get them for free, but it would be even better if they stacked.
It would be extremely hard, if not impossible to make those things stack.
I’d be quite happy to have a MF recipe that lets me put in X 25 item BL Salvage kits and get out a 250 use one, or even a merchant
most of what i would suggest has already been suggested:
~ dubloons
~ blade shards
~ Miyani’s mystic forge items (like philosophers stones, elonian wine, anthology of heroes, etc)
~ +1 agony infusions
~ tenebrous / shimmering crystals
~ blood rubies / petrified wood / chak eggs / reclaimed metal plates / new map items
~ lumber cores / milling basins
not sue if anyone mentioned these yet, but probably has:
~ zinc ore / other incinerator 1 crafting materials
~ other legendary specific crafting materials (like shards of endeavor) since they need so many
but i do certainly agree with the following:
A simple test will solve this problem now and for all future items – Do the following 2 rules apply? If so, the item in question should be in material storage.
1 – Its description states ’crafting material (profession(level))
2 – It is a first tier crafting material ie It cannot be in itself crafted
though i might add a 3rd:
3- if more than 1 of the item is required for crafting / mystic forging (such as the abundance of shards of endeavor required to craft Eureka!) then it should also go into material storage
EDIT:
i realize that the SHARDS of endeavor are already storable in the material storage. but what about the exotic TRIBUTE that is a crafting material used to create the shard.
it occurs to me that the ores required for crafting incinerator (from the collection 1) are also exotic, so ….
~ may we please have an exotic material sub-category? (like how we have fine material and rare material sub-categories)

Actually, no… I have 2 1/2 bank tabs devoted to Superior Runes and Sigils (because I change up my builds so often, I like to keep as much around as possible). My thought is these are two types of items that take up a large swath of space… I don’t view them much differently than I view gemstones, ore, etc. The minor and major I don’t care much about… I can vendor/MF them quickly enough that they’re not a problem for my inventory.

Hi there! Thank you for this thread.
My suggestions are Petrified Wood, Blood Rubies, Blade Shards, Lesser Vision Crystal, Vision Crystal, Mystic Forge Stones, Shimmering Crystals and Tenebrous Crystals.
If the Wood and Rubies are too much, perhaps make them a wallet currency?
Thank you!
I know it was said that sigils/runes will not be chosen but imagine a world where we can just deposit them after salvaging… I mean… WOW… that would be such a QoL improvement, possibly even bigger than “salvage all” button. Useless runes and sigils filling your inventory are just unfun to deal with. I would pay a ton of gems to get bank tab for them.
Anything that comes out of the “Black Lion Chest of Goods” you get for daily log-ins:
Mystic Forge Stones,
Box of Fun,
Merchant Express,
Bank Access Express,
Black Lion Salvage Kit,
Trading Post Express,
Instant Repair Canister,
Revive Orb.
Didn’t include the Black Lion Chest Key or Transmutation Charge because more often than not one would almost consume those immediately. As for non-BLTC chest items;
Philosopher Stones,
Mystic Crystals,
Shimmering Crystals,
Tenebrous Crystals.
(edited by SwanDive.8651)
Love the initiative ^-^.
Personally mostly thinking… philosophers stones would be really nice – i always end up with a few left over and i always have to delete them. And other craftsman-bought stuff is in there too.
As for other ideas… would definitely appreciate the base +1 infusions being able to be stored – potentially considered a crafting material for the “Goal” of the higher infusions. And else… perhaps pact scout mapping materials, or legendary insights?
And finally, shimmering/tenebrous crystals would be pretty nice imo. Any of those would be nice to have in the storage :-).
Would Superior Sigils and Runes be too many things? If not, that’d be a nice addition.

But gemstones are used directly in crafting. They are used to make the various earrings and rings.
Sigils and Runes are not. That’s why they should not be added to material storage.
Only the following items should be in Mat storage:
1. Items used in crafting or MF recipes unless they are unbound and only used in a handful or recipes (ie: you can easily buy one off of the TP or be too hard to store one in your characters’ bags or bank spots).
2. Items that can’t be crafted UNLESS the crafted version is required in LARGE quantities for recipes (ie: ingots, planks, sections, etc)
Sigils and runes do not fall under those categories. And only a handful of them are even used in crafting and MF recipes and I would only support those sigils and runes being added.
A much better suggestion would be to have a Sigil and Rune library where you can deposit sigils and runes to and be able to access it from the Hero Panel. That way you can just swap sigils and runes. Useful if you’re doing dungeons and just need to swap out from one set to another due to dungeon type.
For me, the thing that would have the biggest impact – by a huge margin – would be greatly expanded capacity for bloodstone dust, empyreal fragments and dragonite ore. Even with the sinks, I average several thousand of each on any given day.
To answer the bigger question, anything that is used in crafting recipes (which would include blade shards) should have a material storage slot. Anything that is used as currency should go into the wallet. Everything else should be in the regular bank.
The other big change I would love to see is a character tab for transformation tonics similar to the one used for finishers.

Yes, I’m aware of all that. But, to me they’re still not much different than gemstones, ore, etc… crafting has nothing to do with how I view them. I’d feel the same if all gemstones had to be stored in my bank tabs. They are an item type that there are tons of variety of, and they sit around for days, weeks, months, and even years without being touched… just like gemstones, ore, etc.
If the devs want to stick to crafting/MF mats for this project, that’s fine… that was clarified after I made my runes/sigils suggestion.

I would be very interested in seeing a sort of “Toy box” (although this may seem unrelated to the materials themselves). This would include items like Tonics (the everlasting ones of course), and other “fun” items like Majory’s Journal, Zephyrite Model. This way we can "unlock"certain toys, and make them much more accessible without bloating our inventories.
As far as materials go, I would argue to place all Raid/Scryer currencies, as well as perhaps all account boosters if that is feasible.
I agree about blade shards, chak eggs, mysitic forge stones, etc. I also suggest resonating slivers.

why would it be hard to make black lion salvage stack ?
Tenebrous and Shimmering are a definite for me. Possibly unidentified dyes?
And about Blood Rubies and Petrified Logs. Are they even used for crafting? If they’re just a currency, why not put those into the wallet?
However, on the topic of wallet.
Writs, tickets, and scraps. They could also do with becoming wallet items for definite. They are not used for anything other than purchasing, so… why not?
However, on the subject of storage, if not player storage, as I know we can get bank slots and upgrades to how many of the same materials we can store.
I would, however, personally love to see an upgrade to guild bank storage. I’m pretty sure a lot of people would too. Two and a half slots isn’t enough if you’re a big guild. Even better still, a materials tab for the guild bank. That would alleviate a lot of my concerns for storage.
We have a guild of 300+ members. Two and a half tabs really doesn’t feel like enough to accommodate a lot of things. We store scribing mats and have a donations tab, where guild members can place anything they feel they want to, so they can donate to other players once they have seen past its use.
Our storage is almost constantly full. We haven’t had proper storage for anything guild related in months. So it would be nice to see a sufficient upgrade to guild storage.
And hell! While I’m at it. Allow us to split stacks in the bank and the most important of all. A COMPACT BUTTON ON THE TABS!!!!!!!
(edited by Pixemath.5673)
Blade shards
Petrified wood
Blood ruby
Reclaimed metal plates
Chak eggs
Tenebrous Crystal
Everyone pretty much coverered what I was going to say, but…
A section for our Toys (aviator box, bobblehead laboratory, musical instruments, etc), and a section for our Tonics. That we can deposit them into when we aren’t using them. It would be a section like where mini’s are, but you can physically take them out.
• No Crafted Components. There are simply too many of them and I categorically refuse to add them all. .
Last time I checked… That is what interns are for.
I agree about blade shards, chak eggs, mysitic forge stones, etc. I also suggest resonating slivers.

why would it be hard to make black lion salvage stack ?
I think it’s because they’re not programmed as a stack of 25 items, but instead 1 item with 25 charges/uses.

Let’s see…
[&AnL3EwEA]Crystalline Bottle (item #70647)
[&AmInLAEA]Milling Basin (item #76839)
[&AgHyJwEA]Bag of Mortar (item #75762)
[&AgFPJQEA]Essence of Elegance (item #75087)
[&Avo+FAEA]Tenebrous Crystal (item #70718)
[&AhDeKQEA]Shimmering Crystal (item #76254)
[&AttpwwAA]Blade Shard (item #50025)
[&AiU0YQAA]Copper Doubloon (item #24884)
[&AkW2XwAA]Silver Doubloon (item #24502)
[&AhzEYAAA]Gold Doubloon (item #24772)
[&AhjFYAAA]Platinum Doubloon (item #24773)
[&AgnfCQEA]Amalgamated Gemstone (item #68063)
[&AhkNGgEA]Chak Egg (item #72205)
[&Agt0IgEA]Reclaimed Metal Plate (item #74356)

[&Ag9LKAEA]Indigo Mushroom (item #75851)
[&AkIGKQEA]Drop of Indigo Mushroom Milk (item #76038)
[&AtA8UQAA]Philosopher’s Stone (item #20796)
[&Aho/UQAA]Mystic Crystal (item #20799)
[&AhEPTgAA]Mystic Forge Stone (item #19983)
[&AgLoHAEA]Golden Fractal Relic (item #72936)
I think that’s all the items that could use material slots, either because they are materials we get in large quantities while playing, or from vendors like milling basins, or because they are rare materials we gather over long periods of time before actually using them.
Other materials that drop like the regional lumbers for decoration scribing do not drop enough and are too cheap to be something one may hoard, and they can just be sold to the trading post and bought cheaply instead.
I also discarded gifts of exploration and maguuma, since they are not something you can really ever get in large amounts even if you do a world completion every week.
As for keys and gemstore consumables, they should go in an ‘account pocket’ you can see by cliking a button in the inventory, that opens a small separate little panel with the items. They get stored there automatically, and unlike account-wide inventory slots, we don’t get to choose what goes there. Only keys and stacking gemstore consumables like resurrect orbs, boosters, merchants, etc would go there (Items like [&AowYTgAA][&Ao8QTgAA][&AmwyTgAA][&AkkcTgAA][&AjsxTgAA][&AojQBgEA][&Ai0gTgAA][&AgIVIQAA][&Agh9pwAA][&Ao2ilAAA][&AgwjTgAA][&AvYjJAAA] those that are too many to put in account-wide slots, and people end up hoarding forgetting in the bank, but could be useful once in a while). Everlasting and permanent versions would still require account-wide slots for all characters to use them.
Although these items would be automatically stored in the account pocket on acquisition, players would still be able to open the pocket and take the items from there to the inventory, to use them for something else like mystic forge recipes, and they would be visible in vendors and crafting stations. When the player doesn’t have a key, its slot would not appear there, but empty gemstore consumable slots would remain, and clicking the empty slots would open the BL trading post focused on the item to buy more.

And for everlasting toys, gizmos and tonics, they should be unlocks, but not accessible from the hero panel wardrobe, just the bank. So any character can go to a bank and take an enchanted broom if they unlocked it, but if they want to have it readily available at all times for all characters, they would an account wide slot with the broom in it or bank consumables, or the permanent bank contract in the slot.
(edited by MithranArkanere.8957)
Ummm… ALL THE ABOVE, pretty please… :P

If ya did this, people like me who enjoy having tonics and toys available anywhere but not rich enough to spam bank access would be able to enjoy them far less
These are things I have a dedicated bank slot that are basically crafting materials or currencies in all but name.
- Blood Rubies / Petrified Wood
- Tenebrous Crystals / Shimmering Crystals
- Reclaimed Metal Plates
- Chak Eggs
- Amalgamated Gemstones
- Blade Shards
- Mystic Crystals / Philosopher’s Stones (and maybe other MF reagents, but those are notable for only being purchasable in bulk so you usually have some left over)
- +1 Agony Infusions
- Vision Crystals / Lesser Vision Crystals
And I know the OP specifically says this is not about keys, but those are as pressing an issue if not more so than the above items. The wallet was a wonderful addition to the game and I don’t see why it couldn’t be expanded to include those (unless it’s some technical issue that’s not immediately apparent).
(edited by Scutilla.3072)
Petrified Wood and Blood Rubies are salvageable and not materials so I do not think they should be added to storage. Black Lion Tickets are a currency and should be put in the wallet and not material. Crafter’s backpack frame should not have been added to the material storage as it is a purchased item and no one should have loads to start with, but perhaps it is a bit late to change now.
The items that definitely fit in with storage are these;
All types of Doubloons. Mystic Forge Stones. Agony Infusions. Strategic Defence of the Mists. Amalgamated Gemstone.
Vision Crystals/Lesser Vision Crystal, these should have been added a long time ago.
Blade Shards, though I would much rather have a blade shard sink as I have seven stacks and putting a few piles in material storage is not going to help very much.
Gift of the Explorer + all other gift item types as they are all crafting materials.
Perhaps Augers Stone and Philosophers Stone, but being vendor items it is maybe not best suited for storage as they can be purchased when needed. But if the crafters backpack frame has a slot why not these and other purchasable mystic forge items?
Ugly Wool items would be nice to have in some kind of storage, but they are not used in crafting and fit more in with currency. Writ of experience and Tomes of Knowledge could be stored, but I would rather see a sink for them. Reclaimed metals plates and chak eggs should be placed in the currency tab and not material storage as they are not materials but currency.
None of this will fix my inventory woes, but it will certainly help for a while, especially if we get a key tab like the currency tab some day.
How about creating select-able Material Slots
(something like shared inventory slots)
If a Blood Rubies is put in that slot, Blood Rubies get
transferred by using the deposit option in the inventory menu.
Actually, I have one thing that would make a big difference for everyone if it was added to material storage.
Any future crafting materials that are introduced to the game, so we don’t have to have a thread like this again 2 years down the road.
blood rubies and petrified wood shouldn’t go to the storage, it should go to the wallet.
If we could just get the 2 or 3 different kinds of L20 scrolls to stack, that would be nice.
A different thought:
I was telling a Guildie yesterday, that I would be willing to purchase (at a reasonable cost) a temporary storage unit just for Festival items. It would be usable for, say, 3 weeks (or length of Festival plus 2-3 days). You could deposit all your common Festival items, and then do inventory management at the end of the Festival.
I’d pay 200-300 Gems for a temporary storage unit that handled only Festival materials.
I may be a lone-thinker, though.
Thanks for considering adding some more Materials to storage. =)
Vision Crystals can be salvaged so I wouldn’t add those but Augur’s Stone instead.
Also Agony Infusions? I think they’d have to add all the tiers then and that’s not going to happen. You get more than a stack of +1 infusions in two days just from dailies. So no use for that :"D
Globs of Ectoplasm can also be salvaged and they go in. I still vote for those crystals to get a mats tab slot
Unrelated to the above but in response to the sub-discussion about giving the exploration Gifts a mats tab section — the HoT gifts take up more than one slot, they take up four. Five, if you combine them when you can but have uneven amounts of HoT map completions due to not maxing every map with every alt that completes one of the four. I’ve actually held off doing map completions in HoT with my alts because I don’t want to find room for the individual map Gifts.
Silky Sand was mentioned by someone, that’s a great candidate for this. While it’s not directly used for crafting, one almost never has an even multiple of ten of it to extract currency/coarse sand from so it’s always hogging space. If it could be traded the issue would go away. As there are likely economy reasons to prevent its sale, letting it go to the mats tab would help a ton.
I only listed things I saw in my bank. I’ll need to alt hop if I’m going to spot all the things I’m keeping on relevant alts that would do much better in materials storage for all my alts to use at need.
