What's Missing from Material Storage?
Cooking has a lot of ingredients you craft that are then used in other recipes.
Some examples:
Ball of dough
Bowl of candy corn glaze
Bowl of ice cream base
Bowl of poultry stock
Bowl of meat stock
Buttermilk biscuit
Cinnamon apple
Loaf of bread
Bottle of simple dressing
And a bunch more.
I’d also like to emphasize the various types of vision crystals. It’s never made sense that something mainly used to craft ascended equipment was never in the material storage.
For some reason, the song Material Girl by Madonna popped into my head. xD
Mystic forge stones
Tomes of knowledge
Writs of experience
Philosopher’s stones and mystic crystals
Blade shards
Tenebrous and shimmering crystals
Agony infusions
Vision crystals
BL stuff:
Revive orbs
Repair canisters
Merchant expresses
TP expresses,
BOOSTERS
TP to friends
Primers
BL ticket scraps and tickets
Scribing stuff:
Badges of tribute
Wood pulps, and similar intermediate Scribing items
Scribing finishing kits
Paper types, book covers, books
I strongly believe that Tonics should have their own section on the Hero panel or something.
Nobody is going to costume brawl, let alone carry them if they take inventory space, and they very rare infinite banks are being kept in banks mostly as mementos.
Also… Black Lion boosters!
Don’t put them on a material section. Just like Tonics, put them on the hero panel.
What ales to put on the Hero panel? Toys! Blizzard’s WoW has a Toybox for all the little fun stuff you might want to take out and play at any moment. If I’m waiting for an event to spawn, at least don’t make me go to the Bank to take my Flute or box of Fun.
BTW: Why are Town clothes considered a tonic and not an outfit?

When these changes are implemented, can you talk to the marketing team to do a sale on Collection Expanders? It’s been awhile, and I promise to spend real money on it as long as I get a deal.

Sigils, runes and boosters :0
tomes of knowledge and boosters, unid dyes
It would be extremely hard, if not impossible to make those things stack.
Unrelated to the primary thrust of this topic, but couldn’t you add a Mystic Forge recipe to combine 4 25-use BL kits into 1 100-use BL kit, and then 2 100-use BL kits with 2 25-use BL kits to get a 250-use BL kit? That would be pretty legendary if so, because I currently have ~30 BL kits and they’re way too valuable to just waste.
How about stuff like the PvP reward boxes?
You’re intended to open those, not store them.
and do what with them? It’s not like my characters can start quad wielding weapons.
Cooking has a lot of ingredients you craft that are then used in other recipes.
This is very true, but the trouble is finding the right balance of materials to add and which not to. Probably only the items that are used in X recipes should be used for that. Loathe as I am to say it, I don’t think things like poultry stalk or herbed beef stalk is a good use for material storage.
That said, these items I feel are common enough to warrant a space:
*pile of salt and pepper
*ball of dough
*bowl of dry ingredients
*bowl of wet ingredients
*bowl of ice cream ingredients
Probably a few others, but it’s been a while since I maxed out my cooking.
Also, milling basins should definitely be added. They’re account bound so I can’t just sell them, and necessary if I want to craft any linseed oil, so I don’t just want to trash them.
I’d like to see Material Storage grow to include:
~ Mystic Crystals
~Philosopher’s Stone’s
~Vision Crystals (And Lesser Vision Crystals, too)
~Shimmering and Tenebrous Crystals
~Bottles of Elonian Wine
~Blade Shards
~Reclaimed Metal Plates
~Petrified Wood
~Blood Rubies
~Gifts of Exploration as well as map completion gifts from the Heart of Thorns maps
• No Keys. I totally understand how much folks want this (my shared inventory slots are largely taken up by keys, so I get it!) but putting keys into material storage is not a viable way for you to get a key ring. Sorry.
The HoT keys (Machetes, Crowbars, Chak Acid, Exalted Keys) really need to go into material storage. It’s already clearly not viable at all to keep them in your inventory, unless you only have one character that you’re ever going to use in HoT.

I’ve been waiting to see a suggestion thread for a long time about this topic that ArenaNet will actually look into. I went though my entire Bank and picked out items that are specifically used in crafting something through either general Crafting or the Mystic Forge. Some of the items may be old and discontinued, but that does not excuse them from not having a slot in storage like they should’ve had since they were first introduced into the game. Any items that have a weaker link to this rule or the possible tab placement will include my personal reason on why they should be included.
Common Crafting Materials
- Milling Basin
- Crystalline Bottle
- Bag of Mortar
- Philosopher’s Stone
- Mystic Crystal
- Siege Novice’s Guide
- Siege Grandmaster’s Guide
- Sheet of Coarse Paper (Fine quality, but other crafting refinement goes here)

Rare Crafting Materials
- Elonian Wine

Gemstones and Jewels
- Copper Doubloon
- Silver Doubloon
- Gold Doubloon
- Platinum Doubloon
- Amalgamated Gemstone (Isn’t classified as a Gemstone upgrade component, but the most logical tab name)
Cooking Materials
- Indigo Mushroom
Festive Materials
- Wad of Enchanted Stuffing
- Drop of Magic Glue
- Mystical Cog
- Ugly Wool Socks (Currency, but used by Mystic Forge and a salvage result item)
- Ugly Wool Hats (Same as above)
- Ugly Wool Sweaters (Same as above)
- Jorbreaker (Piece of Zhaitaffy’s answer to Candy Corn Cob, why do we have the one but not the other?)
I know this thread is just for the Material Storage, but I can’t help but toss in suggestions for the Wallet as well, since I feel like they are grouped together despite being different systems. Again most of them are probably discontinued, but I felt like I should round them all up regardless.
Wallet
- Pact Victory Token
- Captain’s Council Commendation
- Fortune Scrap
- Queen’s Gauntlet Entrance Ticket
- Festival Token
- Mordrem Bloom
- Custom Arena Time Token
- Reclaimed Metal Plate
- Chak Egg
- Blood Ruby (Remove salvage. Allow players to buy a bundle of Unbound Magic for 1)
- Petrified Wood (Same as above)
This next section I feel is more important to find a solution for. The best way to implement them would either be an additional tab in the Material Storage or a second tab next to the account Wallet on the Inventory window. It’s Keys.
Key Storage/Wallet
- Completed Aetherkey
- Zephyrite Lockpick
- Bandit Skeleton Key
- Key of Greater Nightmares
- Pact Crowbar
- Exalted Key
- Chak Acid
- Machete
Lastly, these last few items I’ve been already seeing people mention in their suggestions. I wanted to share my thoughts against them being included as materials.
- Aetherkey Piece, Essence of Nightmares, Pile of Silky Sand, Fractal Research Pages.
These items are weird because they double-click and become a completely different item. We have that system already in the Material Storage with Mordrem/Evergreen, but those items at least stay in the same section. I think these are fine to leave outside of any Storage section.
- Bauble, Bauble Bubble, Continue Coin.
These are a mixture of Currencies with some used in Crafting. I don’t think these have a place getting changed because it could mess up how Super Adventure Box functions regarding the Bauble Purse and where it pulls Continue Coins. My thoughts are to leave these as-is.
- Legendary Gifts.
I don’t feel like these have a place here at all. Almost every Legendary Gift is crafted from items in the Material Storage and the only reason you would ever have them is if you were crafting the specific Legendary shortly afterwards. The only Gift that people could have a surplus of is the Gift of Exploration, but even that one seems like a rare case.
Apologies for this being a massive shopping list of items and thoughts. It would be many huge strides forward if we can get the Material Storage (and eventually Wallet) to a solid consistency. Very glad you wanted to get community feedback on this subject and really appreciate the chance to get our responses heard.
Hover over an item, does it say Crafting Material followed by some crafting professions? Then it should be in the material storage
- Tenebrous Crystal

Many other things like Baubles from SAB should be converted into wallet valute.
Thank you!
I agree about blade shards, chak eggs, mysitic forge stones, etc. I also suggest resonating slivers.
I understand why you don’t want to put crafted things in. Would it be hard to at least make more things stackable in the bank, like the various salvage kits, harvesting tools, etc.?
Every month I end up getting quite a few BL salvage kits. It’s great to get them for free, but it would be even better if they stacked.
It would be extremely hard, if not impossible to make those things stack.
I think the appropriate solution would be MF recipes to combine multiple 25-use BL Salvage Kits into larger ones. I do agree that people who are fond of BL chests end up with a lot of these salvage kits which consume space. The other salvage kits already can be handled by mystic salvage kit recipes (or trash if you have copper/silver-o-matics). In theory you could do the same for gathering tools in order to get them to “stack.” Outside of the scope of the material storage though.
I just wish we could stack more than 250.
I get 250 elder wood and mithril so fast its crazy.
Main Warrior | Every other class at 80
I only play WvW

You can if you buy the material storage expansion. Goes up to 2000 per slot.
This suggestion might slightly sound of an “I don’t want to waste bank on this” one, and maybe it partially is but I’ll drop it anyway: I think the non-crafted Gifts that can fall into your lap through natural gameplay that you may nou use ever or for VERY long time should go in there also. An example would be the gifts from HOT zones and the Gift of Exploration from world completion.
Also, I really think some of the tonics need something done with them, not the consumable ones per say, although errr eh maybe whatever. But well, I guess really achievement items in general that you may not want on you all the time that you inadvertently get, for example I finished the Silverwastes JP for the first time finally the other night, and now I have an Endless Skritt Burglar tonic, would be nice if I didn’t have to hold onto this if I wasn’t actively using it. It’s not really a material though, honestly in my opinion, you guys should really just move all the achievement rewards into the achievement reclaim or on an npc, I find it strange at the only reclaimable achievement items are things from milestone chests.
There’s plenty of other things people may not want to throw away but not have immediate use for, for example did you know that 3 of the 4 HOT Act story rewards are a completely identical amulet with a different name? Would be nice to see these in the reclaim or something even if only one may be in use as it should be.
I enjoy earning fun achievements and such, but sometimes I really have to consider if I want to waste another inventory slot permanently on an item I may rarely touch, which is kind of a sad consideration, ya know?

But gemstones are used directly in crafting. They are used to make the various earrings and rings.
Sigils and Runes are not. That’s why they should not be added to material storage.
Only the following items should be in Mat storage:
1. Items used in crafting or MF recipes unless they are unbound and only used in a handful or recipes (ie: you can easily buy one off of the TP or be too hard to store one in your characters’ bags or bank spots).
2. Items that can’t be crafted UNLESS the crafted version is required in LARGE quantities for recipes (ie: ingots, planks, sections, etc)Sigils and runes do not fall under those categories. And only a handful of them are even used in crafting and MF recipes and I would only support those sigils and runes being added.
A much better suggestion would be to have a Sigil and Rune library where you can deposit sigils and runes to and be able to access it from the Hero Panel. That way you can just swap sigils and runes. Useful if you’re doing dungeons and just need to swap out from one set to another due to dungeon type.
Yes, I’m aware of all that. But, to me they’re still not much different than gemstones, ore, etc… crafting has nothing to do with how I view them. I’d feel the same if all gemstones had to be stored in my bank tabs. They are an item type that there are tons of variety of, and they sit around for days, weeks, months, and even years without being touched… just like gemstones, ore, etc.
If the devs want to stick to crafting/MF mats for this project, that’s fine… that was clarified after I made my runes/sigils suggestion.
~EW
I don’t disagree that something should be done, but you said they should be added to mat storage. They don’t belong in mat storage since they aren’t used in crafting all that much.
My suggestion was a counter suggestion.
I know you guys have said “no crafting components”, but I want to make a case for scribing materials.
With items like boot soles etc, if you make too many, you can for the most part sell your extras on the TP. But most scribing components are account bound, so you can’t even share your pens or nibs or anything else you’ve made with other guildies, let alone on the TP (which is probably also why a lot of the related mats are so expensive right now). As a result, these materials end up taking up an obscene amount of bag/bank space, but none of it is stuff I want to throw out, because it’s important to my guild to have these things, and often they have contributed to the materials but we’re missing items. I think if not in our personal material storage, there should be a special materials storage in the guild bank for stuff like this.
I also think vision crystals, tubs of wood glue, and amalgamated gemstones deserve a place in the materials storage (plz amal gemstones….)
Echoing the basics:
blade shards
chak eggs
reclaimed metal plates
doubloons
vision crystals
lesser vision crystals
petrified wood/blood rubies/chak eggs
tenebrous/shimmering crystals
mystic forge stones
mystic crystals
philosopher’s stones
unidentified dyes
Also:
icy runestones
Any and all Gifts used in making Legendary anything: these things may seem like you wouldn’t ever have that many, but my Gifts of Battle collection begs to differ. You end up storing a lot of disparate elements in the course of making a legendary. At least get the map exploration ones and the Gift of Battle in there.
IMO, the various types of keys (pact crowbars, etc) should go in the wallet.
These have all been suggested, but just adding my vote:
Amalgamated gemstones
Vision crystals
Mystic stones
Mystic crystals
Philosopher’s stones
Chak eggs
Reclaimed metal plates
Blade shards
Petrified wood
Blood rubies
Doubloons
- Blueprints
- Infusions
- Fossilized Insect
- Fossilized Ambrite insects (specific ones)
- Gifts for crafting legendaries
- Milling Basin
- Shimmering Crystals
- Tenebrous Crystals
- Boxes of fun
- Mystic Forge Stones
- Lesser Vision Crystals
- Vision Crystals
- Blade Shards (already said will be going in, but wanted to list anyway)
- Dubloons (all versions)
Mystic Forge Stones
Integrated Fractal Matrices
(On Blood Rubies/Petrified Wood, I prefer the currency (wallet) suggestion that includes Unbound Magic vendor for conversion.)
I think everyone has pretty much mentioned everything i can think of on the topic of materials. which makes this completely off topic, but you cant have what you never ask for…it would be fantastic to have a tab on you character panel (similar to what we have for finishers maybe) for boosters and/or tonics. I might actually use them if i had easy access to them.
Please remember that this is “Material Storage”. Not “Stuff I Don’t Want To Spend Bank Slots On Storage”. Items that are not used in crafting or mystic forge recipes are VERY unlikely to be chosen. Sigils, Runes, Tomes of Knowledge, Boosters, etc are all not going to be chosen to add.
EDIT: That said, I am still very seriously considering things like Chak Eggs, Blood Rubies, and Petrified Wood.
Well.. those ARE actually currencies. but it would then take a tool to extract the UBM from them, like the currency exchanger..
Oh, and add Reclaimed Metal Plates to that list….
What about the different levels of luck and agony resist stones tho? Both are used by artificers, and to create epics. Oh.. and Doubloons.. and stuff like Icy Runestones..
Then there are all the items you accidentally by from the forge keeper.. like elonian wine.
What about things you .. like.. rarely use to decon to make crafting items .. like Ascended Salvage tools?
Thanks for the consideration btw.
(edited by Darlgon.9273)
My list:
1. Doubloons! This has been sorely lacking since launch.
2. Blade Shards
3. Shimmering/Tenebrous Crystals
4. Reclaimed Metal Plates and Chak Eggs (to go with Auric Ingots)
5. Bloodstone Rubies and Petrified Wood
6. Amalgamated Gemstones
7. Lesser Vision Crystals/Vision Crystals
8. Milling Basins/Crystalline Bottles
9. Philosopher’s Stones/Mystic Crystals/Mystic Forge Stones (maybe? Not as urgent priority since these are usually bought when they’re needed)
10. Golden Fractal Relics
11. Legendary Insights (I don’t raid, but these sound like they should be added. They could also be added to the Currency Wallet, similar to Pristine Fractal Relics)
I doubt we’d see Paper get put in there since they’re kind of like intermediate crafting items. Wouldn’t object to them being included though.
As much as I’d like to see slots added for stuff like Indigo Mushrooms, Purple Potatoes etc. I understand that these only show up for people doing specific Legendary collections and thus won’t be an issue for many players, so I’m willing to leave those out.
Someone also mentioned getting a “tonic wardrobe”, which I definitely support! Any endless tonic you use can be added in there, and double-clicking it just fires off the same script that normally gets called when you activate the tonic. One-use tonics get added to a usable pool similar to the Scarecrow/Mad King finishers.
Finally, I don’t know if this is your department, Lindsey, but could we possibly get more uses for things like Ley-Line Sparks, Piles of Auric Dust and (ESPECIALLY) Bottles of Airship Oil? We get tons and tons and TONS of these, but there are barely any sinks for them. I think this could be done by giving us 3 new essences we can purchase from the HoT map vendors for 250 of the appropriate trophies, which then unlocks a new tab in our Ley-Energy Matter Converter that lets us purchase trade trophies for another map, or potentially allows us to buy things like Freshwater Pearls, Maguuma Lilies, Reclaimed Metal Plates/Auric Ingots/Chak Eggs (rare showing in the tab) and so forth.
The only things that have really troubled me in the past (or would be convenient) would be
-All essences of luck (they are crafting materials after all)
-Mystic Forge Stones
- Blood Rubies
- +1 – +9 Agony Infusions
-Runes/Sigils (salvaging fills your inventory so fast with these, very annoying, even -though it isn’t a material)
-Petrified Wood
-Siege equipment
-Guild Banners
-Pile(s) of Elemental Essence (and other items similar to it)
Teleport to Friend
Item boosters
Celebration boosters
WXP boosters
Experience boosters
Crafting boosters
Heroic boosters
Enchanted combat boosts
Bank Access Expresses
Trading Post Expresses
Merchant Expresses
Milling basins
Blood rubies
Petrified wood14 slots freed that I could absolutely use for anything else!
Only 1 of those items is even used for crafting, and half of them are kittening boosters. Those have no kittening place in crafting mat storage.
This isn’t a thread about what you want to clear space with. Its a thread about what crafting mats need to go into mat storage.
Jesus
Black Lion chests
Mystic forge stones
Blade Shards (— thank you!)
Tenebrous crystals
Ugly wool sweaters
Ugly wool socks
Ugly wool Hats

I’d love to see the chak egg and reclaimed metal plates treated like the dungeon tokens in the wallet.
I’m dreaming here, but:
sigils
runes
inscriptions
harvesting equipment — at least could it stack, please?
salvage kits — stackable please?
tonics
gifts
You guys said no keys — I sure wish we could have them in our wallet, though.
Thanks for taking the time to do this — I’m really looking forward to what you come up with for us!
map currencies should go to wallet, same goes to Legendary Insight. as for material storage, all the doubloons should have been there long ago.
Archeage = Farmville with PK
I’d like to see the following crafting / forge materials added to bank storage:
- Tenebrous Crystals
- Shimmering Crystals
- Blade Shards
- Mystic Forge Stones
- Badges of Tribute
- Doubloons
- Philosopher’s Stones
- Lumber Cores
- Amalgamated Gemstones
- Gifts of Exploration
- Vision Crystals
- Reclaimed Metal Plates
- Crystalline Bottles
- Milling Basins
- Bags of Mortar
Lots of good recommendations but I want to make sure agony infusions get said here. at least +1s should have a spot.

Yeah, let’s not forget it’s about Material Storage. For those suggesting Boosters, Sigils and stuff… if it would be added, think about what would happen to those when you choose Deposit Material O.o
That’s also a good way to think of it actually. Think on what would be good to be simply stored by hitting Deposit Material.
And my suggestions: pretty much what others said but one I can recall from top of my mind is Pile of Auric Dust. I have almost a row in bank filled with those :/
Auric Dust already goes into mat storage. Its just so plentiful and easy to get that mat storage fills up almost immediately
Oops, my mistake. I wasn’t in game when I posted and I recalled it from top of my mind. There is one I was going to suggest but can’t recall it, possibly someone else already mentioned it.
BTW: Why are Town clothes considered a tonic and not an outfit?
Good question. I still wonder why it was converted into tonic instead an outfit. Since Wardrobe was introduced I have never seen any “clothes” coming out as “tonic” (except Costume Brawl stuff). Town clothes was the only one so far. Anyway, that’s a different subject, not going to derail the topic.
Essences of luck. Please. They are used in both crafting and mystic forge recipes (and based on the format are likely to be used in New Years recipes in the future), so they easily qualify as materials. But more importantly, they are like litter in your inventory. It is impossible not to get them when salvaging, and it would be so nice if you could make them go away like other crafting materials by depositing all.
I think we should all upvote this poster in this post. They organized their post really well and covers pretty much everything.
I know everything I say will most likely have been said, but i’ma say them anyway because I can not be bothered reading through each comment: Fractal Research Pages, Black Lion Tickets/Scraps (maybe), Bricks of Clay, Amalgamated Gemstones, Blood Rubies, Petrified Wood, Essence of Time, Mist Core Fragments. That’s about all I can think of for now, thank you for your time
Crafting pieces/items that are considered materials to craft other materials. Like inscriptions. I wish they’d have their own material slots so I don’t have ingredients and other combined things just taking up inventory space.
Also, it might be cool to have like maybe a 20 slot inventory tab SOLELY for items that you can purchase on the BLTC shop that’s a shared account wide and can be accessed through any character you’re on. Only BLTC shop items can go there.
I think anything related to crafting legendaries should be material storage.
Maybe infusions too….
….. And Elementalist.

How about selling increases to the regular bank tabs like the material storage that way people will not need to worry about bank space so much. There are some items like vision crystals that should be in materials. But if things stack and the amount can be increased in the bank side of it then do that instead.
See how easy that is?

Might be because it’s very late, but I’m not even sure what you’re trying to say. I guess you’re trying to say there should be an option to sell bank tab capacity expanders (i.e. mats inside the item storage can be stacked up to 500/750/…/2000) but that would most likely be a whole lot of hassle as both storages work differently I assume.
