Zodiac weapon skins!!
The sword! What did you do to the sword Anet??!! Light blue?! Whai? Zodiac was a subdued, dark blue design with nice lights. I don’t want to see what you’ll do to celestial weapons.(some look nice but why light blue? that’s not a zodiac sword).
EDIT: the warhorn! AHAHAHAHA!!!
(edited by data.4093)
Now I have seen them they look like they are coloured wrong, what’s with the watery colour? Did the person who made these not even see the gw1 versions? Or he/she thought well lets make them look different iow worse.
I think the skins look greakittens the RNG issue thats bothering me, but they may have a reason to do so. Maybe to make the skins more rare?

It is to make you spend money on gems
Wow… So I just got a chance to look at the skins…
Now I’m just mad you guys made them ugly as hell. What’s wrong with using a perfectly good set of weapons that were absolutely beautiful in the first game (except the Axe, the original Axe was pretty underwhelming, but then again, the new one is even worse) and make them look like they came straight out of a weaponshop for 4 year old boys?

Calm down forum warriors, the skins drop as random loot, you can buy them off TP if you choose to do so.
Would go a long ways towards settling complaints if they had said that in their patch notes.
Instead we get just this:
The Zodiac Weapon Skins are now available for purchase from the Black Lion Weapon Specialist. This weapon skin set is inspired by the classic Guild Wars Zodiac weapons. For one month only, until September 16, these weapon skins cost only 1 Black Lion Claim Ticket. Claim Ticket Scraps can be acquired by opening Black Lion Chests. Black Lion Chest Keys are available in the Gem Store in the Consumable category for 125 gems each or a pack of 5 for 450 gems.
No mention of them dropping anywhere else.
I thought that contact with Cantha was cut off in the game lore. Is the inclusion of Cantha specific weapon skins an indication of things to come ?
I think the skins are pretty cool actually.
(edited by Ashen.2907)
I agree, the Zodiac weapons look pretty cool. In some cases I even think they look better than their GW1 counterparts.
These people will complain about anything.
The skins look slick, especially the shield. Shout out to the Anet artists for delivering some quality skins.
Yeah pity ye again they’re hidden again behind RNG and gambling boxes.

The colors are just terrible. In GW1, it was a kitten dark-blue color with golden glow. Now it’s some pansy light blue with a faint yellow glow.
Not to mention, they kept the original sword and shield skin (that look terrible now with the light blue-ish bull****), but made the others look like trash. The original hammer, scepter and staff look way better than the ones you’ve got now skin wise.

As to them dropping, I can’t verify that. However, the skins from the vendor are not account bound. Neither are the Aetherized, Jade, or Fused, so people can potentially spend tickets on those and sell the skin rather than using it.
Alas, the Aetherized Shortbow Skin is 130 gold.
Lol at the people who supported kiel thinking voting for her would suddenly stop the RNG.
And voting for Gnashblade would have? I don’t really see what your point is supposed to be?
Anet needs to stop going one step forward and two steps back…
The Zodiac skins in GW1 looked way better than these blue plastic toys…there have been several examples of how they continue to ruin amazing skins when they have better graphic engine and hundreds of dyes to work with…
I hope one of the designers actually takes time to read the comments here and realise they need to fix the skins…
After buying 20 bl keys I got my zodiac gs skin and its awesome.

I do enjoy the horn. Be prepared for so much kitten blowing jokes. Fun times lie ahead. And the weapon skins suck. Doesn’t even come close to GW1 Zodiacs. Please do not recreate tormented weapons.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but you abuse the privilege.

If they recreate the tormented weapons a put the floaty particle effects around them i’ll be kitten ed. I’m sure they’ll put then in black lion chests though. They wouldn’t be anet if they didn’t.

-shrug- I disagree. But that’s the nature of aesthetics.
Any way to make money off of people. Sounds about right. The only weapon sets they have gotten right from GW1 were the destroyer weapons, annnd they were ugly as heck then too. Just implement dye able weapons, and be done with “copying” GW1 weapons. And why choose Zodiac skins? That’s a Canthan weapon… Something GW2 knows nothing about.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but you abuse the privilege.
Here’s yet ANOTHER example of anet giving you skins without any goals/challenge for you to achieve them. That’s what casuals want and that’s all they’re listening to.
Calm down forum warriors, the skins drop as random loot, you can buy them off TP if you choose to do so.
Source?
They are on the TP right now.
I see them on TP, but that doesn’t mean they are random loot.
I don’t like the new Zodiac weapons.
I think this is a good example of “less is more”. In the original Guild Wars, the Zodiac weapons (which I loved, for the records) were far less detailed, so ArenaNet had to deal with the lack of details: the weapons all followed a similar pattern, being of a dark blue and slightly star-stained metal with glowing orbs and golden lines. Nothing more than that, but it made for a set of nice looking weapons.
Now, with the ability to add more details, ArenaNet went overboard. They have themed the weapons over the Chinese Zodiac (and I’m sure most players didn’t realize that, for the records; I wonder if it’s part of their push into China), and so exagerated the looks of the everything. The simplicity of the old weapons is gone, replaced by monkey-shaped and cook-shaped ugly things.
I’m kinda happy, though. Considering how the only way to acquire those things is by RNG boxes or by helping players who support the RNG boxes, it’s a great thing that I have no interest in any of the new Zodiac.

They are not random loot. Since the Aetherized weapons, the skins from the RNG boxes can be traded. That’s ArenaNet’s excuse to not introducing any way to actually get the skins in game (unlike the Jade Weapons, for example) – people can buy them from the players who got the weapons from the RNG boxes.

um…can’t see too many people blowing up the tail end of a chicken….WTF were they thinking with that warhorn??
Whether gw1 zodiac skins look better is a matter of perspective. I personally like gw2 versions WAY more. The luminous blue wins it over for me. I didn’t want to make this into a debate of which skins were better or a thread expressing bitterness towards anet’s way of introducing skins.
I wanted this thread to be a appreciation thread to Anet from those who actually enjoy the skins.
I don’t really care about the rng factor, in fact it was much cheaper to get the ticket than it was my legendary. Its not like I had nothing to do with my gold anyway, I’ve just been sitting on cash for months since I had nothing to buy.

Here’s a riddle for you: If you can buy something from the Trading Post, is it still considered RNG when it’s guaranteed purchase?
:D

I’d love for Torment Weapons put into the game. God, I’d kill for a shield right about now.
I like the way they look, overall it’s the best weapon set of the “new” sets in GW2. I don’t give a rat’s rump if they look different than the GW1 Zodiacs did (I owned those too fyi). It’s a different game, if I wanted a carbon copy I would go back and play GW1 again. doh
Anet —- please stop with the ever worsening RNG. It cost me 175 Gold to get my Aetherized Rifle, which is ridiculous. I’m not going to be wasting anything on BL Keys again after that, but I would consider buying a skin outright for some RL cash. If armor sets are 800 gems ($10.00) then I think it fair to offer a weapon skin for 400 gems ($5.00). People would buy them like candy. Let us have 3 ways to eat our cake please.
- - very rare drop as in-game loot
- - very rare BL chest drop
- - spend $5.00 and get it outright.
^^^ That should keep everyone happy, other than the perpetual whiners. :p

Seriously? One year later and you’re still spending gold/dollars on these? The reason this garbage is back every time is because too many dumb people are buying them… Let these dumb people spend their real life money while you buy these skins on TP if there’s a skin you really like.
Meanwhile in Australia, land of no Gem Cards QQ.
Oh my god I’m pretty mad right now… Zodiac weapons in GW1 were acquired in 2 elite dungeons, and were really nice. At least back then you had to complete challenging content in order to get your weapons.
Now, RNG boxes.
I heard people like those RNG boxes. Oh wait they don’t.
I hope the guy that came up with the idea to put zodiac weapons in BLC’s steps on a piece of lego. Barefoot.
No I actually wish a lot worse things upon this person, but since I don’t like infractions or being banned, I’ll keep them to myself.
That has got to be POST OF THE DAY material
Here’s a riddle for you: If you can buy something from the Trading Post, is it still considered RNG when it’s guaranteed purchase?

No because you paid X amount of Gems to receive the item that was advertised , ie a BLC

I couldn’t agree more!
I AM NOT WASTING MY GEMS AND MONEY ON RNG ANET NO ONE WANTS TO GET WITH THE PROGRAM FFS!

This is a comparative of Zodiac Gw1 vs Zodiac Gw2.
And again Gw1 is far superior in zodiacs.
Yup, Far superior. Earlier I went and took a look at all of the GW1 Zodiacs an just shook my head. Even though I dig the shield, the old one looks better to me. The old axe was baddkittens and the bows were sick too. Don’t know what happened.
If they bring anything else back, I think what people want are improvement on the details. Zodiac weapons were already a bit detailed but now kind of lost that.
+the gems on the old ones were able to be dyed.
and the warhorn looks like you are blowin intoa chickens Rear end!

Why are they so blue and tacky.
Zodiac weapons previously looked more like celestial constellations.
Here’s yet ANOTHER example of anet giving you skins without any goals/challenge for you to achieve them. That’s what casuals want and that’s all they’re listening to.
Actually, the casuals (including myself) want to DIRECTLY BUY the skins with gems. We’re fine with that. Hell, three of my characters have the gemstore quiver on them.
But if ANet thinks I’m going to spend real money on a CHANCE to get a skin, they can go … use their warhorn.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

if they put tormented weaps in and completely fuff up the staff i will /slashwrists /uninstall
Yeah, for Tormented weapons, leave them alone. Clean them up a little, but don’t give them the same treatment as they gave Zodiac weapons.
obviously whoever made the new zodiacs never seen gw1 zodiacs. -.-"
I have the Zodiac scepter and staff in GW1 and, quite honestly, I think they look odd. I don’t know what the head parts were suppose to be; both were distorted with little stickouts and just have a few gemstones on them. In GW2, it made more sense as to why they were shaped like that (scepter – bunny and staff – goat/ram and their positions of ears/horns).
I like 7 of the GW2 Zodiac skins – greatsword, shield, sword, scepter (cause it’s a bunny), staff, dagger, and focus; the others look clunky and not as appealing to me (they could be redesigned). I always wondered why were they called Zodiac weapons in GW1 as I would assume it was referring to Chinese zodiac signs, but none of them weren’t shown as such. I think Anet was trying to make them more accurate to be animal zodiac weapons in GW2.
Its such a shame that these turned as bad as they did. They color looks too blown out. (Too light blue/white) I also don’t care for how they represent various animals. They’re rather tacky. It reminds me of WoW trash.
I’d be willing to pay real money for proper Guild Wars 1 skins, but not like this.
Yeah it’s pretty bad. Not to mention that on top of them being a total joke compared to the GW1 skins, they aren’t earned by skill or by completing dungeons or elite areas. They’re “earned” by buying keys to RNG boxes.
Yipee. That’s what we all wanted.
twitch.tv/mdogg2005
I wonder what the motivation of the light blue color is. Is it just to make them a bit different from the gw1 version so people would not go like, ooooh you just copied them from gw1? I do think if they made the colour more darker blue so you can see the constellations they would be surerior to the gw1 weapons.

Yup.
I love this game but there is no way that I will spend money on the chance to get something.
Implementing a system where you have to get scraps to get a ticket- bla bla and still need to buy keys, so you can do that?
hell no!
Sell the skins for gems
give the RnG kittens a chance to waste their money if you want
Give us options
That said I love the skins- too bad I buy actual products not a chance at a product

Agreed. I’d happily sink a few gems at the store for a guaranteed skin at a reasonable price, available when I have the cash to spend on gems. That’s what casuals like. Stuff available at a price that doesn’t make you blush and when we want it. Maybe that’s too much to ask.
However, RNG boxes that can only be opened by BUYING really expensive keys (yes, you can get them in game, but I’ve NEVER had one drop and I’ve got ONE from a storyline) for a random chance to get a tenth of one ticket (yes, a whole ticket might drop but that’s very, very rare and after a month you need 5 of them)? That’s ridiculous.
I know I can buy the skins of the TP, but just look at the aetherized skins – nobody has any tickets anymore and no one buys the skins to put on the TP, and so when they do they cost a minimum of 80g? Some people don’t have that. I can convert gems to gold, sure, but that works out to converting roughly 3500 gems (or it did last night), which isn’t cheap at all and far too much for a skin.
No, I don’t need the skins. But I’d sure as heck like a couple, and the point is that ANet fail to realise that people WOULD buy these things. As I said above, I’d happily pay for more than two in the gem store at, say, 500 gems. But using either of the two methods currently available? I see it as a great way to burn cash real quick. The only other faster way to do so would be to literally burn my cash.
fire the weapon designer

Unless you haven’t finished the story, you’ve gotten more than one from the storyline. You can also get them from zone completions, as well. But there are at least two from every story line (and I’m thinking there are three).
that warhorn looks so funny! never thought i could be blowing into a chickens bum and the look on its face too :P
I wouldn’t mind buying the Black Lion Keys if the chests gave more than one scrap at a time. They make it a point for you to keep spamming keys just to get 10 scraps for one gold ticket. Rather boring.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but you abuse the privilege.
I loved my Zodiac Longbow in GW1 on my ranger early on everyone was wanting one, if it was the same I would go for it otherwise pass for me on it on gw2
I liked the GW1 zodiac weapons, and I like the GW2 zodiac weapon skins.
They’re not that different.
Yes, in many cases less is more, but in this case I like both the “less” and the “more” versions.
I espacially like the axe and dagger skin.
