Guild Wars 2

lets discuss who is actually enjoying the game at level 80. also, do you consider this game a grind? in my opinion, people are leaving this game because its incredible boring and grindfest at level 80. what do you guys think?

Great fun There’s a reason it’s the fastest growing MMO ever made.

Extremely little grind in the game -unless you want a grind, then you can grind out a legendary or you can simply take the more leisure route and get it along the way since it doesn’t OP your stats.

I think this game has tons of time sinks which many people can interpret as a grind. That being said, I do not have nearly as much fun as GW1 and am waiting for another game to take my interest away.

Everyday I play this game I have to smash my keyboard a couple times because its so horrible, I’ve gone through at least 6 keyboards since release. Aside from that, it’s not bad

Yes, this game is fun and have grind.

Fun time 3-6 months after that time for a break and check for updates I think this is the reality of gw2 now.

True,people are leaving each day more and more.Game is fun at 80,i give you that.But problem is not 80!
Problems lays in not being “competitively fun”.It has good PvE.
But u can`t do Duels?Each gear has same stats(in way of every1 are as strong as you)?
Or how i put this…Game graphic is great,idea is great,but the core of how to keep players is forgotten.I am certain developers want people to buy their game not just “buy and leave it” since its buy to play not pay to play with monthly fee.But i guess thats the problem,if the game is with monthly fee it has to be competitive(people would actually play all day in really good Battlegrounds and arenas) and at lvl 80 it would be so much better if legendaries had more dmg than exotics(now people would say then they will BUY to WIN,not true just make legendary Character bound when picked up or crafted.)
Because PvE has its limits,once u done it all u got it all expirienced and farmed ur gear(in addition).As games are then u switch from PvE to PvP with ur gear,but PvP is not satisfying at all.It doesnt matter if u r skilled or not,definitely doesnt matter if u win or lose.Thats the problem…Its Social game but i definitely think that its more like Single player if u look at it in the big picture(doing events and dungeons and wvw,hotm with people and guildies,but its still missing the point in doing all that).

I enjoyed the game for the first four months and got my monies worth. Great effort. But now it has a doll house feel to it.

WVW feels like a bigger AV now. Svp horrible.

I was hoping a the ranking system would bring renewed interest but in my opinion, it failed miserably.

I really liked the open world PvE the first two times around, now since I spend 95% of my time in WvWvW I can’t stand slugging out 80 levels in Tyria. And as much fun as WvWvW can be, when the flaws start showing it’s enough of a bummer to make me ask myself “Why am I doing this again?” and log.

In short, I have a love/hate relationship with this game. It tries to cater to everybody and just ends up ticking off a lot of players.

I play it on and off, hasn’t kept me in like the first guild wars did, ended up re-subscribing to “that other game”, the only thing that really stops me playing this on a regular basis is the mob density and the respawn rates in the zones.

There’s just really nothing that is really getting me to play this every day, I visit on the weekends and that’s been great!

I think it’s fun and it’s not a grind Been playing since beta headstart.

Fun enough to keep me playing, but not as fun as gw1.
Leveling is probably the best part, but it becomes less and less fun on each new character, now being no fun at all on my 4rd (story being bad doesnt help either).

Still, a good game, and woth my 50€, but in its current state surely not something i’d play for years like gw1.

A good game, completely worth the initial sticker price, but it doesn’t seem to have the longevity I expected it to. There are some fundamental deficiencies in the game mechanics that prevent me from really enjoying it and coming back again and again. PvE in this game bores me, while WvW is fun, it gets old after a while. I will not speak of sPvP. (PvP in general would be a lot more interesting without the downed state.)

Fun enough to keep me playing. Probably would be less fun if I didn’t have a great/the right guild.

Guild Wars 1 was also fun, but not quite as fun for me.

The grind in this game is a matter of perspective and largely voluntary (in my opinion).

The game is amazing fun, and there is nothing you NEED to grind for..
So there really isnt a grind ; p (working for looks is no frigging grind)

And ascended are no grind either when you have the option to do a 20minute daily to get the pieces one by one(this is what im doing)

4 80s, 1100+ hours and still going strong. Best way to make this a great game is to find a guild that you enjoy and do stuff with them. To me the only grind in gw2 is what people make stuff to be grind. been working on my flower power weapon for 4 months now and still dont feel like a grind to me since the bow i do got has the same stats as the flower bow.

Also i tend to farm in CS alot and dont find that a grind since im usely on TS3 talking with guildies and competing with who gets more bags :P

I agree that some have…but I also think many have stayed and are enjoying the game. I think a lot of it depends on your perspective..or how you approached the game.

The people that are probably the hardest hit are the PvPers and the “competitive” PVe’ers. The guys who enjoyed running DOA all the time or the Underworld don’t have as much to do here as they did in Guild Wars 1. Likewise, the PvP community has far less play options. Nothing like GvG for example or Heroe’s Ascent. No battles in the Hall of Heroes.

My own perspective is of someone who don’t love dungeons or competitive play. I did like the Guild Wars 1 story better too, but here, each zone has mini stories in them and I enjoy exploring them. It’s a different game, but the feel, for a player like me, isn’t much different at all.

In other words, this game feels a whole lot more like Guild Wars 1 to me than it does other MMOs I’ve played.

The lack of a trinity really helps, since I never used a tank in Guild Wars 1 and my healer was almost always a hero.

I agree gkrit. Everyone I knew from GW1 (the list is long) no longer plays GW2. It is really sad how the two games aren’t even close to being similar.

The game is great fun! I think my expectations were too high though. They did an amazing job with the creation of the gameplay and world of Tyria in general. The problem I’m having now is that replayability is becoming a factor. Once you’re fully geared out there just isn’t much to do besides grind out a legendary.

Also, where did all of the lore go? I think they have made several huge mistakes in their story development concerning the importance of the gods and the race of dwarves, and just threw a bunch of dragons at us. They totally left the gods, mursaat, dwarves, etc. out of the world and character creation, and yet… they didn’t really delve into the ruins of their culture, where they went, why they went there, or bring the relics of arguably the premiere race of the original game into play at all in the construction of weapons or armor….. I know they’re probably just waiting for an expansion to bust out the dwarves, but it’s questionable at best to introduce the game without them in my opinion. And Cantha… god. I might as well quit while I’m ahead.

Yes, it’s fun. Grind? yes i’ve been grinding on other servers invador/defender and it’s till fun grinding them.

yes boring grindfest with wasted potential and strong annoyances that won’t change anytime soon. there are good elements though, but there are equally met by the bad and frustrating ones.

It’s fun, it is truly a fun game to play, but it’s “single player” game fun. I think the game is best first play through, but where it different from other mmorpgs is that the “eureka” moment, where in other mmorpgs you “now understand everything” in this game (imo) it hits like a brick and boredom sets in. It leaves this whole “what now” feeling topped with a big fat “why bother”.

You’re making some pretty big generalizations here. We all bought Guild Wars 2 because we all loved Guild Wars 1. I’m guessing there’s a ton of people who didn’t like Guild Wars 1 who are playing Guild Wars 2. And a ton that never even tried it.

Also, not every Guild Wars 1 player is disappointed. I’m not sure how big that percentage is. Some definitely are. Some are definitely not.

I agree that everyone has the right to voice their concerns. What I don’t like is when people make sweeping statements about Guild Wars 1 players, as if all of us can be painted with one brush.

Funnest MMO I’ve ever played. I’ve had more laughs in this game, more smiles, more walking away from a game session happy than any other MMO I’ve ever played.

See that just a very bad way to look at things if players are going to be that hyperbolic about any small thing that differs from there “old” game then they are never going to find any thing better then there “old” game i am saying it this way because it can be applied to any game that they make a new one of. If you truly feel cheated then by coming here and still playing the game your being cheated more so. Your putting more time into a game that is in some ppl view being “stolen from” when playing the game and having bought it. There has got to be a point that you MUST move on.

When you say things like cheated your evoking a lot of meaning of natively behind your ideals. Its to the point where if only from viewed from these forum GW2 was about to close down and Anet with it. Its getting so bad that the very ideas of this strong emotionally charges words are losing there effect. “This is the worst xxx” (an example) realty the WORST so you not seen much in your life or you do not mean comply what your saying but to only evoke a strong response.

That the truth of it GW1 is dieing not to say they are going to cut it off tomorrow next month maybe not for a year + but its over for GW1 we now have GW2 and only GW2 will be getting the major attestation for the foreseeable future. In time GW2 will update and add more things into it to make some ppl feel as if they where not cheated but its not going to be because of these forums. We have the same ppl who worked on GW1 with the same ideal and vision what is good in a game or not. There as been a great deal of time and work into this game there WILL be more to come but its still not even a 1 year mmorpg. As things stand GW2 has adding in more content in one year then any mmorpg that is out there so far why would this stop?

If you truly cant find end game now give it a month or 3 of down time there will be something for you in time.

I suppose my opinion means little in this context if we’re assuming most people inherently don’t like grind.

But to be completely honest, I can’t think of many things to do at 80 if I weren’t grinding. I think the lack of vertical progression to be casual-friendly is ruining it partially. There’s no way to get better at 80.

For a 150$ purchase (CE owner here) this game was one hell of a good deal. I got the best MMO for everything except dungeons and I didn’t even have to pay one dime in monthly fees. And I got a cool statue to express my nerdiness. thumbsup

Now, I find this game’s instanced PvE lacking, and as the defense-oriented kind of player I actually like the trinity since it allows me to play a tank, so this cannot be my main MMO. I wish I would have more things to do at endgame, but the game is the way it is, and since I don’t have to pay monthly fees my bar is not high when it comes to content updates.

To be fair, there are MAJOR differences between this and Guild Wars 1. I just knew what most of the major differences were going to be before I signed on.

I knew skills would be bound to weapons and there would be less of them. I knew that it would give me less build variety, but would make the game accessible to more people and accepted it on that basis. I also feel it would be easier to balance than Guild Wars 1 which had some very bad balance issues, even in PVe.

I knew the world would be open and because of that, you couldn’t have groups like you did in Guild Wars 1 zones, because they were instanced. With creatures constantly need to respawn, you couldn’t keep throwing out groups with healers and minion masters, because solo players would be slaughtered. It’s far easier to balance an instanced game with a limited number of players than it is to balance an open world game.

I knew there’d be more emphasis on the cash shop. I also knew the staff was five or more times larger and there’d be more frequent content updates.

I knew there’d be a marketplace, which meant a place like Spamadan was not likely to evolve.

I knew there’d be no healers. I was happy about this. I still am. Healers open up a world of problems. Even in something as simple as random arenas, if one side had a healer and one didn’t, the win was automatic.

I also knew there’s be more races, more starting areas, dynamic events instead of quests. I reasoned out, and heard described, how dynamic events would ping pong back and forth along a track. I didn’t know about hearts until the very end, but they’re not a big enough part of my game to care about. I also didn’t find out about vistas and jumping puzzles till after I bought the game, but I really like them, so that’s no problem.

There are problems in all games, and there are problems in Guild Wars 2. But over all, for a player like me, the pros far outweigh the cons.

Indeed. This pretty much describes how I feel as well. There is no perfect game out there.

A whole lot of fun and never felt as a grind even when i went for my legendary. Compared to so many previous mmos, this game comes to the top in all aspects and it will just get better and better.

Odds are in this forum most people are going to consider the game fun, because most of the time only people invested in the game will be looking in this forum and posting.

Probably the best way to get gauge whether people are having fun or not is to get data from ANet on peak simultaneous logins on the servers and compare the highest number over various months. If people are having fun there will be minimal diminshing in numbers or potentially a gain in numbers.

I myself found I was not having fun and quit months ago. I occasionally jump back on the forums to see what kind of updates are being made, but I don’t anticipate playing again until an expansion is released when there is the potential for major changes such as new skills, weapons, classes, redesigns to combat customization, etc.

I played an ele mainly, then some guardian, and mesmer. Regardless of the profession I was playing I ultimately determined the game was the same few concepts wrapped up in slightly different packages, and didn’t offer enough diversity for my liking.

I was spoiled with Guild Wars 1 having so any different combat functions, and so many different heroic storylines. Someday Guild Wars 2 might have the same breadth to it, but for now it feels like ANet was placing more focus on digging deeper than broader, which there is nothing wrong with. I just don’t happen to enjoy the way the game feels, which in my opinion is narrow with repackaged content.

But you didn’t have so many different heroic storylines at launch. You had one. And only one way to get to it. Factions was another game, beyond Prophecies. It sold separately. We don’t know what paid expansions to Guild Wars 2 are going to offer.

What I do know is no new game is going to compare to a game that’s 7 years old, in terms of content and updates. The game needs to mature for that to happen.

We, as in those who have posted similar topics. However people write it Angry, civil whatever… the same message is being relayed across that “Something is not quite right” or “just missed the mark…”

I understand many people enjoy the game but would it hurt to have some similarities to Gw1? No. Does it hurt to have change? No, but at keep some stuff that made guild wars in the first in the new one

Which is why I plan on taking another look as expansions are released and changes occur.

There is one other thing, which made GW1 very fun. You played with people, but when your people weren’t available and you didn’t want to waste time finding a decent pug, there were heroes.

Not only that, but the instanced nature of the game had a more personal feel to it. GW2 open world is very uncaring, which is cool in it’s own way. I’d almost want to pay ArenaNet to be able to swap to my own server space for a whole zone and invite anywhere from 8-25 players to run through a zone and do our own thing. It’d be nice to get away from the openness on ocassion and play it like a large instance.

We are concerned for the game because we are loyal and hope that at some stage we could come to thoroughly enjoy the game once again if there is a chance that the things that were true to Guild wars, are implemented in some way.

We all bought Guild wars 2 because we all loved Gw1. The reputation was there and we went along with it until we realized how drastically different it actually was.

These threads have a place on the forum because it raises concern. If we didn’t care, we wouldn’t waste our time writing here.

I’m a person who loved GW1 and bought GW2 and I don’t agree with the conclusions drawn. He’s speaking for everyone who loved GW1 and bought GW 2, and he really shouldn’t be. Because everyone who loved GW1 doesn’t necessarily love it for the same reasons.

This! I love this game and I have been playing since betas.
I never grind. I have 2 80’s and 3 in their 60’s.

I always have a good and fun experience every time I log on, I am not bored in the slightest- I keep promising myself I’ll check out WvWvW but so far I haven’t gotten around to it yet because I have too much to do in PvE.

oh and to people going on about how disappointed GW1 players are.
Sure some of you are and you are certainly very vocal here, by no means all.
I have a friend who played an ungodly amount of hours in GW1, who bought GW2 because of that.
He is completely addicted to GW2.
He mostly plays PvP.
Sure he is just one guy, but the other side of the coin exists.

what “grindfest”? people keep using that word. I do not think it means what they think it means.

the only “grindfest” in this game is the legendary weapon, and as long as legendary has the same stats as exotic, i don’t consider it mandatory.

all the rest is trivial .. some drop rates are broken (yes passion flowers i am looking at you!) but this is a bug not a “grindfest” …

I started out hooked. I’ve been playing since the beta, but gradually losing interst. After three months I began to lose interest. I don’t know what it is, maybe the lack of “end game” like so many other complain about, but I don’t feel nearly as hooked as I was to GW1 and I played that game for 7 years. I don’t think GW2 will hold me for even half the amound of time if it keeps going the way it is. Too many things need to be fixed and/or improved.

For instance I really hate the fact that I can’t switch builds on a whim like in GW1. In GW2 a build switch isn’t just as easy as respeccing your traits. You need gear to compliment those traits and gear costs…well money of course, and lots of it. I find myself spending all my time trying to gear up my 80’s to try new builds, and it becomes quite painful when I realize how much money I need to do it. And if I want to give them some nice dyes to color their armor with? lol forget it, another money hole. It makes leveling alts more discouraging when there is that huge money barrier to gear up. This was never an issue in gw1. Max armor was max and aesthetics weren’t as difficult to obtain. Other than that I can’t see much more of a goal outside of trying to gear up/build experiment. I’ve pretty much done everything else as far as pve goes and I don’t care much for fractals.

I’m not having fun in it any more. I’ll log on to do group activities, but more often than not, my friends are not online. We are finding other things to play.

To be honest, this game has some brilliant ideas, but the implementation is mediocre, and the radical change in philosophy over Guild Wars has really turned me off. The only reason I’ve not abandoned the game altogether is because of Guild Wars.

But the sPvP is pathetic compared to Guild Wars. I don’t think any of the great PvP’ers from GW are here any more.

WvW is interesting, but doesn’t hold my attention for long. Unfortunately, I think the really quality players have moved on because it simply wasn’t ready for release, and it took ANet too long to fix the culling and other issues (exploits).

The PvE is good for what it is, but the lack of mission instances like GW had leaves me just as bored as every other MMO has after exploring the world. Hearts are no different than quests in other games, really. DE’s are a good idea, but I’d thought that they’d be changed over time as the world progresses. Yet I find the same old DE’s every time I go to any zone.

Gameplay mechanics are frustrating. My character randomly changes targets. The trait system is nice, but the skill/weapon system is limiting and ultimately, repetitively boring.

RNG for precursors. Big fail. Big, big, big, big fail.

5-person instances. Big fail.

Tier gear. No thanks. Other games do it better, but I played GW because I hated that. Thanks for the bait-and-switch there, ANet. Especially since it’s a serious grindfest to equip multiple characters. Whatever happened to grinding for skins, only, and not gear? What ever happened to “we don’t make grindy games”?

5 guilds at once, but no alliances. Possibly the biggest fail.

So really, the ArenaNet of today is not the great ArenaNet of Guild Wars. I don’t like where they’re taking the game, and I don’t think they really have much ability to manage this project. Everything seems half-done, rushed, and not ready.

GW2 is a mile wide, yet an inch deep. No wonder people are so bored with it already.
