that’s not the point, in a cosmetic game the apparence is important, and your skin should be reconognizable by everyone, just think about legendary without those skin… its all about skin, and i think that ascended should have something like that

The point is there already is an ascended only skin – the one the scepter came with. If they had made another, separate, skin there’s no guarantee you’d like that one either.

Besides being able to transmute any skin over any item (of the same type) is a big part this being ‘a cosmetic game’. In most games if you want the best stats you have to have the skin that goes with it. In this game you can have the best stats and make your character look however you want.

If I prefer low level crafted armor to temple exotics I can transmute them (and did), if you don’t like your ascended scepter you can transmute it.

If you want particular people to know you have an ascended weapon you can ping it in chat. If you want everyone to know you can reassure yourself with the knowledge that they don’t care.

I am using the Jotun greatsword skin since i’m lvl25. When I craft a ascended GS the 1st thing i’ll do a transmute to get my beloved looks back. I doubt people will think.. Hey look at that Warrior he is wearing a lvl20 weapon skin he must be daft.

In other words just be glad u have the opportinity to transmute it and the only one who cares that u wield an ascended weapon is you.

Just because you didn’t like the skin doesn’t mean that everyone else doesn’t like it as well. Conversely, just because you like it, doesn’t mean everyone else will.

You didn’t like the ascended skin, so you transmuted it to a skin you like. Now, you’re unhappy because ‘everyone else won’t know!’ Honestly, how many people do you think care? Sure some do, but I think the majority of players probably don’t. As long you are happy with your level of stats (given what is attainable) and with the looks you chose, that’s all the truly matters, or should anyway.

I couldn’t agree more with this guy +1 to him.
You can’t make an ascended weapon, with its own unique skin, then complain once you transmuted it, I think all the skins are pretty amazing to change them into multiple skins would be silly.

I don’t see the issue personally, does vanity really matter that much? If so, make a legendary next time, or am I guessing you don’t like them either?

Don’t worry about it. You’ve got the power and that is what we are all grinding for anyway. Once Anet completes a bit more on the wowification trend line following vertical progression and now ‘raiding’, I’m sure we’ll have an ‘inspect’ function. It is all about power and you will then be able to show off to others through ‘inspect’. At that point all will know that you can pwn the noobs.

I dont get how Ascended has ANYTHING to do with this.

For example:
When i see someone with a Fused Greatsword, it could be anything between a White and an Exotic(and now possibly even Ascended).

Take an even closer look on “free” weapon skins, I see a lot of people around me with Super Greatswords, King Toad Greatswords and Storm Wizard Greatswords.

Did we ever have a clue that this guy running CoF with us for the past 10mins had a Rare Greatsword? Did we even know whether someone in team had a Magic Find Greatsword?

When all 5 of us are hitting the boss, we can see “not enough dps” but we cannot see “who does not have enough dps”.

Unless someone pings their weapon, or the weapon is only crafted under that quality(for example, if i see a Pearl weapon, i will assume Exotic) we will never know each other’s gears/stats etc. Even with Pearl weapons, there’s probably some troll out there who has transmuted a Pearl weapon on a White, even if it’s unlikely. Of course, if you see a Legendary skin, it is 99% probably Legendary quality.

How does Ascended have ANYTHING to do with it?

They haven’t had time to come up with Ascended skins that are unique and ‘amazing’. Unlike exotic skins that were worked on years before release, ascended is new. Even legendaries take time to ‘fix’ or put in new ones and they’ve been here since release.
Give ascended time, they’ll have more skins to chose from soon enough.
Also given that crafted exotics are pretty plain, following the same pattern, crafted ascended will probably be the ‘plainest’ of the skins in the future.

No one makes a legendary weapon for themselves. It’s for others to ogle at. If you just want to keep yourself happy with gear, why play an MMO? A solo game would be better. The sole reason to play an MMO is to show off to other players. That’s the only reason why other players exist – to admire each other’s gear.

“No one” hmmm…. if you say so. I’ll count myself as ‘no one’ in a sea of ‘no ones’ based on various responses on the forums across a multitude of threads where people have stated that they don’t give a crap what others are wielding, and could care less what other think of what they are wielding. Oh sure, it’s nice to show off, but for many it’s not their sole reason for doing something.

No, the “sole reason” to play an MMO is not to show off to other players. Ok, maybe to you it is, but for everyone I know it’s not the reason. Some people play for the social aspect. Some people play just because they like the genre, you can get so much more from a MMO than from a typical solo, rpg. That’s just to name a couple of the bigger reasons, I’m sure there’s a long list, and I doubt “showing off” is at the top of it for most people.

Lol, the only reason other people exist is to admire other people’s gear. That’s a good one. I guess we’re all doing it wrong, opting to play the game. Instead we should all just hang out in LA and gawk at each other. No TP needed. No loot needed. No quests, no dungeons, no pvp, no wvw, no story at all. Hell, just drop the rest of the game completely, we’re all just here to stare at the shinies. rofl. Anet can just give us a closet with the skins and we can all play barbie.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. You need to clarify that the only reason YOU play an MMO is to show off your virtual gear that you grinded away for. And then you can explain to everyone how you have self esteem issues and aren’t successful in real life and what not so this helps ease your emotional problems a bit.

I think a majority of people who play online games is specifically to play AGAINST other players. That is get real competition that AI simply cannot provide. Also, I don’t think anyone really cares about your legendary or you farm farm farm gear. I think it only impresses small children the same way doing a simple math equation in your head does to them. Adults aren’t impressed.

No, the rule exists in English as well. Random crap I remember from high school English classes.

“In most logics and some languages, double negatives cancel one another and produce an affirmative sense”

In a weird way the OP strikes a chord with me. When you have all of these cool skins at exotic level and below, and only one style of ascended skins, you’re pretty much out of luck if you want the strongest weapon but don’t like the skin available for that tier. I’ve been thinking lately that ascended weapons are the best that many people will get, so there should be somehow more styles and the freedom to choose them. Or something.

I was actually an English major for many years and this is indeed the truth of it. I think one of the best examples of this are those that claim, “I ain’t got no (fill in the blank).” Which, clearly, suggests they do have whatevah …

To address the OP’s point, however, and to agree with several who have already stated the same, what difference does it make if anyone else in the game knows what type of weapon you have so long as you are content with it? I would assume if you spent the time/coin in crafting the ascended weapon, but knew you didn’t care for the skin, you were crafting it for that stats, which you now possess. So in my eyes, you accomplished your goal.

Would it be nice if more skins were available? Certainly, the more the merrier. But if/when they would become available, a word of advice, and this is also something several others have pointed out — get the skin you like because you like it, not because you’re expecting/hoping for a crowd of other players to gather around and ogle your amazing weapon … I, like many of the others, really wouldn’t care one way or the other. I don’t spend a lot of time eyeballing the neighbor’s lawn decorations, car, wife, er, barbecue … As long as what I have makes me happy, then my goal has been accomplished.

You care too much about what people think. When I go for a cosmetic item it’s not because I think people will be jealous, but because I like the way it looks.

I sometimes imagine that the concern of over another’s opinion about oneself extends from one’s self-absorbed qualities, which means we’ll have a bunch of self-absorbed people who are concerned about what other self-absorbed people think about them.

Would that mean that we’ve got a situation where people are too busy caring about what others think, to actually think about others? GAAAAHHH my head…
