Just the WvW

In gw1 that was a great decision when they made 2 diferent mode. A pvp and a pve
No. Definitely would not want this.
I’m getting a feeling of Déjà vu. I feel like this conversation has already happened.
Providing the arena can be avoided, is clearly indicated as a PvP area and is not essential for any PvE progression or achievements, it would be fine.
Optional is good, compulsory or unavoidable will just upset the PvE purists. As indicated by the reasonless no’s in this thread.
Dueling? With opt out of requests the default, and only in arenas inside cities? Sure. Open FFA in a PvE map? Nope. We’ve got a PvP mode, a PvE mode and a PvDvP mode. I’d rather see developer time put into PvP go to consensual features like the existing PvP options or dueling than into a non-consensual PvP mode that would require them to completely revamp the game.

+1
Dueling in arenas scattered around the world, Yes. Open world PKing No. its one of if not the main reason i played this game and gw1 for so long.
You can put it in tomorrow (because tomorrow never comes).
NO! Absolutely not.
i would not want a open world pvp , i can already see some guilds or just a band of friends blobing around the zone and ganking everything in its path.. we have wvw for that.
another thing about it would be if its going to work it needs some sort of separation between the players.
Factions vs factions, red vs blue, pact vs freelancers ,whatever the name it has to be something that a person gets to decide and become apart of 1 side that fights the other side (for whatever reason…)
On the other hand i would love the option to right click duel on players around me.
Youd get your little 2000 range circle that you can run around and attack eachother.
lore? To spar and hone your skills ofc. Ive seen a ton of skill challenges with npcs taunting you just to hone each others combat skills
It doesn’t even need to be anywhere in the world. New rebuilt Lions arch could have small dueling arenas (placed where the small red stone fence that shaped Anets logo was) that you can talk to a few npcs that act as referees ,you and your opponent queue with the npcs (heck pay 5s if it has to be ) and then you enter the arena and duel together
go to pvp if you want to pvp…
No, if I wanted open world pvp I’d be playing Eve or Lineage2
Remember: if something can be zerged, it will be zerged.
Open world pvp would be one group of people sitting there and camping with everybody else being frustrated until they are strong enough to be in the camping group.
No open-PK / FFA. That wouldn’t fit well here.
But YES to consensual dueling.
Or at the very least, restricted “arena” places where you have to queue up with an NPC and then can battle in front of an audience (like Queens Gauntlet).
as we all remember the part with the bandits in silverwastes, u take a buff and you apear hostile to players(they can atk you but you cant attack back) and also seen the same at PoI DEVs can make them selves hostile if they wish.
so my question is : would you like there to be some small arena/out post some place in middle of a PVE map, and wen you just step insdie you can fight other players.
in a nutshell would you like a PVP area inside a PVE zoneAs a spectacle absolutely YES!
It would be cool to see some 1v1 or whatever in an arena in specific zones. I’d prefer it be confined like the cages were in the queens pavilion was. Maybe let players bet on the fights too. Could be pretty cool and I could see Gnashblade doing something like this anyway.
Maybe add an arena to new LA once it’s rebuilt. I think lore wise it would work for the expansion too.
best idae ever, i’d pay extra money for the expension if it will be there
No. If there is ever any open PK content in the game, I will uninstall and not look back. Open PK and open world PvP are one of the biggest factors that contribute to game communities becoming unpleasant environments.
We already have PVP in PVE. It’s called WvW. If you just want to slug each other 1vs1, 2vs2, etc, there are custom arenas for that.
You can even do this without interrupting where you’re at in the PvE world. It’s pretty fun, my guild hosted such an event.
I missed the later half, but it was nice just moshing out in a free for all. We already have the ground work there for what you’re asking for.
I don’t understand why people don’t take advantage of this already.
With guild halls and a new PVP mode coming, with custom arenas, you’ll be able to set up all kinds of interesting situations to fight with.

In the words of Emerson Cod … Oh Hell No!
No! (needed 15 characters).
Yes. Absolutely yes. Open world PvP is fantastic.
A Gurubashi esque arena, and open world dueling I would be all for it. Open pk? naw, won’t work with this game.
No .. never
Yes. Absolutely yes. Open world PvP is fantastic.
Maybe in Korea .. in the west it works as good as giving players the rights to
perma-ban every player they don’t like.
Just take a look of the success of Lineage 2 and Aion in Korea and in the West.
Only against sylvari
Yeah it’d be awesome. Not just some small outpost though. The whole thing.
No
I had a clever video all lined up to express my immediate distaste for such an idea but then I actually read the OP and thought for a bit.
So to answer the OP directly, as long as such an area is clearly marked and only serves as an arena (as in, no PvE objectives are tied to it) then I see no real harm in it… though I fail to see what such a thing would offer that WvW/Obsidian Sanctum/Custom Arenas doesn’t already. It wouldn’t appeal to me personally, because I’d rather just see local dueling implemented and even then only available in the cities (or maybe… in Guild Halls? Eh? Eehhhhh?)
No. I do not want it.
True open world, non consensual, PvP ?
Nope.
Open world dueling with a default opt out system would be fine though.
hell no. that would be seriously kittened.
Dueling? Yes.
Open pvp? Only if it were on a separate, dedicated server.

Nope, definitely nope. In fact. I’ve got a first class ticket on the Nope train to Neverneverstan
The skill floor of most gw2 PvE players is so low I would find open world pvp would be meaningless.
No.
I would not mind some sort of “Request duel” feature, but it would have to send both players to a temporary arena, separate from the map they were in.
We can’t have ANet testing all freaking maps for exploits abusable by some kid who thinks he’s very smart by using an unfair advantage to grief others.
Competition is to happen within competitive environment, and so we can’t have people fighting each other in areas not meant for that.
No.
sPvP is that way… if you want a new mode of PvP, pester the Devs to put it there.
I think a lot of the responses here might be thinking of classic open world, gank-anyone-anywhere (of an opposing faction, anyway) PvP. I’d agree that this is highly against the concept of GW2.
A few thematic locations for consensual PvP, though, I don’t see much harm in. There may be technical reasons why it wouldn’t work, but it doesn’t seem like an intrinsically bad idea.
Yes..
Why are people mad about an arena in the middle of nowhere where once you step in everyone outside of your party is hostile?
It does not impact pve players at all, it does not pose any harassmenta issues because you have to go inside it to be tagged, it only lets people go in with their full pve armor while in the outside world and enjoy random dynamic pvp.
Better yet, place a chest in the middle of it that spawns every hour and you get fun joyful activity that does not bother absolutely anyone and offers hours of playtime to others
as we all remember the part with the bandits in silverwastes, u take a buff and you apear hostile to players(they can atk you but you cant attack back)
What’s that?
There was a bug where, if you paid the bandit woman to enter the area, it made all the bandits friendly to you. However . . . if you left that area, it made you red to all the players.
It wasn’t pretty.
I wouldn’t mind something like from Dark Souls 2, where you can opt to be one of the Mirror Knight’s minions.
I would really like a place to watch others duel, something like the Queen’s Gauntlet, where players can queue up and wait to fight equal sized teams. Go to Obsidian Sanctum, you say? Sure, but there are at least ten servers of people I will never see. Go to hotjoin? Sure, but then I have to actually be in the match, and chances are the teams are not organized. I loved watching other players fight in the Queen’s Gauntlet, and I’d love the ability to watch 1v1 – 5v5 premade teams.
It would have to cost money, of course. Sell entrance tickets in the gem store or make players pay an entrance fee, otherwise it might compete too much with their sale of private pvp arenas.

That sounds… kinda awesome.
Thank you for clarifying.

You can do all of these things in hotjoin. Watch, fight 1vs1-5vs5.
There are dozens of servers that are organized and routinely rotate… or use select maps, as preference dictates.
Players have a whole lot of control over these things.
I believe that if any time was the right time for this gif, it has to be now.
The same answer as the dozens and dozens of threads have asked – No
For dueling? Why not. That or some awesome stadium in the PVE cities.
For dueling? Why not. That or some awesome stadium in the PVE cities.
Would a PvP browser in the major cities do it for you? Honest question. You can already watch people duke it out in PvP without participating yourself.
NO – in GW1 you could dual a guildie in your guild hall and have a quick match – eg 2v2 or 3v3 or 1v1 – now that we are getting guild halls… Taking this conc t from gw1 into gw2 would be nice … Add spectators and we’re all set.
They tried the pvp in pve during silverwastes in the champ bandit area – it soon got kicked to the dustbin as it wasn’t woring as intended and didn’t work as a friendly enviroment for players.
PvP and PvE is different thing, should be strictly separated.
Having played Aion, no.

It was a bug and not intended and if I recall correctly the player that took the buff that made them red couldn’t even fight back.
Fixed an issue in which players who paid to safely enter a bandit camp in the Silverwastes were attackable by normal players.

You can do this right now. Several 1vs1 servers are out and about, and if your guild has an arena, you can organize any combination in between to your hearts content.
Replace GW1’s guild hall with GW2’s arena. It’s the same thing.
The people saying no would be camped by people like me so yes.
