When does the Halloween event start?
yes so where the US dates will be 22nd oct – 1st nov, the EU will be from the 23rd Oct – 2nd nov. Everyone gets the same amount of event time.
Are you making kitten up? Stop making kitten up. They’re not adding a day to the events. There is no delay in the patch.
Um that’s not adding a day? That means both get the content for the same amount of time, at the same time. USA’s 22nd is a large part of the worlds 23rd. USA’s Nov 1 is a large part of the worlds 2nd.
The event still starts and ends at the same time for everyone, the dates just look different based on where you are…
They said October 22nd, if they do it at midnight that would be October 23rd…
The Anet post I saw was a response to a forum thread, I will look for it.
Even though, isn’t it after midnight GMT anyways?
yes it’s 3am
lol, one quick question… Does Jack or Evil Santa included?
I am just hoping that if they launch the update at, say, 11pm PST on the 22nd, that the event ends at 11pm on november 1st so we don’t lose time. By the time i get the content it won’t even be the 22nd anymore. I feel like I lost a day of Act 1 play =[
You didn’t lose a day of Act 1. The plan was to release it at this time. There is no missed time.
You’re mistaken. Afternoon (stated timeframe is late afternoon) is 1PM to 6PM. It’s a little past 7PM PST at the moment.
from reading this forum, it already looks like Shadow of the Mad King is already here.
@wayshuba
The site says that "
- All times and dates are shown in US Pacific Time (UTC-7:00)"
That is just a disclaimer that the times they specify throughout the site are in that time zone. That isn’t event a specific time. It is just a notice that if they said something like 9pm for example. It is a given that it would refer to 9pm Pacific time.
October 22nd is over on the east coast US in two hours.
Could we please not screw over the US east coast when announcing to the entire US that a patch happens on a particular day? The US was told the 22nd.
Thanks.
Not trying to be rude here but they did say PST which is about 3 hours behind you. They are probably working late into the night so that the servers are updated properly and perfectly entitled to take up until midnight there. even If they miss that deadline they aren’t doing it to be mean. They are doing it to ensure quality. i would rather have a good update rather than a kitten one that has to be fixed later
Just FYI, you site says specifically 7 pm PST at the bottom. Not just sometime on October 22.
Also, for most who hear 22nd, they think prime gaming time. 10 pm-11pm EST is NOT prime gaming time. Might as well say the 23rd.
The site does not say this.
Site says:
- All times and dates are shown in US Pacific Time (UTC-7:00)
This means that pacific time is set at -7 hours to UTC time, NOT that the event starts at 7:00 pm US pacific time.
I saw an ANet post saying it was coming at midnight for European players to everyone…that was a while ago so, where is it?
They said not to expect it until AFTER midnight EU.
Very Very excited cant wait to get in a try the event tomorrow.

The Story so far….
Bad Players: Where?! When?!
Good Players: No seriously, when?

Which means you take UTC (GMT) and subtract 7 hours to get to Pacific
I’m just glad I didn’t plan today to be a GW2 day for the event. Instead I’ve been waiting around all day to see update XD Oh well, I’m use to waiting for updates. Last mmorpg I played would tell you it was coming this week, but not which day… so I could wait half a day before they tell us it is tomorrow >.<
I’m sure future GW2 Content Updates will learn from this though…

No, its not supposed to end on the 1st. It ends on the 31st at midnight, which would be the 1st for Europeans.
TwoSwords they said Oct 22 PST not Oct 22 GMT.
In other words, you guys get it a day late, and keep it a day later.

LOL I read the comment about 7:00 and did not know where he saw such a thing, and your response cleared it all up ROMFL
There are a LOT of EU players who haven’t had any emails whatsoever.
I thought I might have missed mine, but I had to re-authenticate today by email after a router reset and I only had 1 email to that account, the one to let myself log in. I haven’t had a single email from ANET about the haloween event.
Some EU players have had 2, one with the 22nd and one with the EU date of the 23rd.
It doesn’t really bother me, I just think there would have been less confustion and QQ if someone had just said hours ago. ‘You have at least 7 more hours to wait so if you are staying up to catch the start you might as well go to bed now.’
That is why a lot of the EU players, understandably, are angry.
I myself cant sleep atm so I’m mooching about on here for no aparent reason Insomnia ftw.
Weird they never had all these issues with the Guildwars 1 events, i wonder what changed to make Anet have so many issues with their in game events and festivals etc..
I guess its just the state of Game development these days.
I do agree with the GMT stuff the rest of the world uses it and it would make life easy on 99% to use GMT not US timeszones…

@FiachSidhe.
On top of what you’re saying. What he said isn’t even true. European emails said the 23rd. Trying to lie to Anet about what they sent you, doesn’t even make sense. This kid is a tool.
Wow. Why am I not surprised.

Well no, they didn’t have an actual timeline. Just an estimate. And about 15 hours ago they had changed it to at least 5 pacific on twitter. Then reinforced the idea of a late night release on their twitch stream. If people want to sit around and cry without reading the most up to date information. There is nothing to do for them.

Done completely differently
GW1: Closed Map private instances, Open towns
GW2: Open Map, Open Towns
That and GW1 recycled a lot of their Halloween decorations so they had the files presaved, all they had to do was replace the hat files and change out the quests the npcs offered. The Original Halloween on GW1 and Original Wintersday Festival took a while to push out too.

“ACT 1 of the “Shadow of the Mad King” update will go live late this afternoon (Pacific time), do not expect it until past midnight GMT. ^AT" from their twitter this afternoon.
In any case, Anet gave a date, and no specific time. They haven’t failed to deliver on either of those promises. Anybody that decided to make an arbitrary time for them self and then got pissy when it didn’t come true. You should probably reevaluate things.
Been waiting since 12AM PST. Still, nothing.
The problem is they said “22nd” but due to their time zone and delayed launch will be releasing it basically in the wee hours of the morning on the 23rd. Most of the world has already said goodnight to the 22nd of October, 2012. Much of the US is about to as well, yet Anet’s latest word is “later this evening”.
Their marketing team should be kitten that their advertised DAY (not hour, but day) for this event has essentially been completely incorrect and misleading. You’ve had people expecting something to start for 24 hours already.
Due to the use of PST and inability to meet deadlines, just go with “Soon™” as all your ETAs from now on. You’ll look far more professional and be far more specific, Anet.

More misinformation. 14 hours ago the exact quote was late afternoon. There isn’t a single tweet mentioning 5PM PST. I figure if you’re going to be in here for over an hour white knighting you could at least use some correct info.
wow how would you feel if anet just said" hey you know , i am being placed on time lines by peole who do not even seem to appreciate the time i have placed into this…here is a novel idea, just cancel it.No seriously cancel it and, well i dont care and they will just shut up", that i doubt will happen, but come on, enough already, just log in later and enjoy the festivities

And how many GW2 events do you have to base this on? Don’t assume anything. This isn’t any of their other titles, and they aren’t treating it as such. When they give us an actual time, then you might be accurate. If in fact they do decide to close it at midnight, which they may not.
Your correct about the Pacific Time (-7).
However, how many companies actually dump a patch at 8 pm or later in their own time zone.
Honestly, the majority of the day is gone. Many players have already said patch is not coming and logged off for night (at least in my guild). So the point is kind of useless.
Plus, they missed the original window of this afternoon anyway (unless 8 pm – 9 pm) Pacific is considered afternoon.

afternoon is often considered to end when the sun sets and that can take quite a bit of time on the west coast

I believe afternoon is a mistake, and they intended to say evening. As the times mentioned in https://twitter.com/GuildWars2/status/260350442876334080 specify evening.
They’ve also been referring to it as evening for a while now.
This is actually quite ridiculous. They should have said it was going live on Oct 23rd. What, is it going to come out at 11:59pm PST? It’s nice to see the first “content update” going so smoothly….
Plus, they missed the original window of this afternoon anyway (unless 8 pm – 9 pm) Pacific is considered afternoon.
Let’s break down the word “afternoon”:
After: meaning proceeding an event or entity
Noon: the time of the day which marks half way through the day (12:00)
So yes, by definition 8pm – 9pm is technically “afternoon”
@Dagmar
Since you can’t read I’ll link it. https://twitter.com/GuildWars2/status/260350442876334080
It says Midnight GMT -
Do a little math and this comes out to 5PM Pacific time. Thank you, have a nice day.
This also says midnight GMT, which reinforces the idea that Europeans wouldn’t be getting the update until some time into the 23rd.
Basically, you’re all wrong. Stop whining.
The simple truth is it really doesn’t matter.
If you want to tell people they have created an arbitrary release time don’t ignore the one that was officially given. Afternoon is officially 1PM-6PM. That time has passed, meaning the update missed the given timeline.
This isn’t up for debate, I’m not even annoyed, I haven’t made a single post complaining. Only correcting your false information you have been using to attack people for over an hour. People are overreacting about the delay, but you’re also just as annoying, the only difference is they haven’t been here repeating the same garbage all night.
This is actually quite ridiculous. They should have said it was going live on Oct 23rd. What, is it going to come out at 11:59pm PST? It’s nice to see the first “content update” going so smoothly….
the first major update to a game is very seldomly done smoothly.

It is 7:30 on the west coast. So I don’t know why you’re complaining. They still have their whole night ahead of them. I don’t even usually have time to get on the computer until 7:30 in a normal work day. My night would just be starting.
i am sure the content update is fine, just not the players

It’s been dark for nearly 2 hours here on the west coast…
