Absolutely, I will purchase it. I have fully enjoyed GW2 since it’s release. I see no reason I will not build on that enjoyment with an expansion.

I came back after a long period of intermittent activity and found the second season of living story to be amazing. I’ve been playing Guild Wars since prophecies, and seeing it all connect is an amazing feeling. As someone who has mained a sylvari since head start, i can’t wait to see what the future holds for us. Very few games have moved me like the latest chapters of GW2. I am most definitely buying the expansion.

You have to take into account that there is NO SUBSCRIPTION FEE, so paying for a single expansion is surely not to bad. Besides, where else should they get the money from. Also not that from G2A you could seriously get it for like 20$ no doubt.

Hell Yeah… I’m buying it

More than likely yeah.

I think it sounds the expansion sounds a bit “light” based on the HoT page (but we’ll see what details they add further down the line) but so long as there’s enough new story content and the price matches the content added, then yeah, I’ll buy it.

Even though I haven’t played the game since Season 2 took a break in August (precisely because it took another break so soon, but I digress), I did log in to unlock the story instances (have to make time to play them), if they add enough of those then I have no issues with paying to play them.

I bought two more copies of the game this weekend bringing our household number to 4 which means 4 exp packs for us as well. Spendy…yes…but I want to support exp packs. The living story is ok, but not really worth paying for.

My concern however is size/quantity of the explorable areas. GW1 exps were well worth the money. The size and amount of content for each one is what I’m hoping for on HoT. Right now however, what has been announced is not as big.

Here’s how money works for the casual community:

Do I have 500$ to go to the movies and eat out a bunch of times this quarter? I think I do. Do I have 30$ to buy a game/expansion that I’ll play for 100+ hours? No. No I do not.

Here’s how the online PC community works:

Can it be pirated? Not yet? Alright, then as far as I’m concerned it ain’t out yet.

Here’s how the modern 10 year old kid manages money:

Hey dad I HAVE to have this new Guild Wars 2 thing! [Easily obtains credit card / buys 20,000 gems / expansion not for sale yet / will bother dad again when it is / randomly gets new iPhone and a bunch of Minecraft swag for no reason]

And of course the avid forum goer:

30$? I don’t know ANet, might not be worth it. I still think you should give me my money back for the original GW2 because you did not fulfill X “promise” at Y time. I still want to play the game though. Hmm, 30$ is too rich for my blood. [Thinking inside: “Oh snap! I brought up money! They will totally listen to me now!”]

The WoW gamer:

Why don’t we have a sub fee yet?!

The adoring fan:

I have 20,000$ saved up just in case.

The PC master race guy:

I made a New Years resolution to only buy games that support DX12

The MLG-wannabe-Counter-Strike fellow:

It’s adding hang gliding which makes it an ArcheAge clone which makes it a WoW clone which makes it a COD clone IDONTWANTITGETITOUTOFMYFACE!

The grandma:

I bought Heart of Thorns and I bought Nightfall. My grandson says only Nightfall works. Why would they sell something that doesn’t work?

Nope they lost me as a customer when the game encouraged cheesing bosses by positioning them in a way that stops them from doing attacks and skipping trash until it leashes which proved to me the company had no care or talent in making 5man instanced content. Also the lack of a level cap increase is also a deal breaker and seeming only one new area do not impress me.

I doubt they will be able to balance the masteries well and that the new class/ sub classes will be required to get into any LFG group. Also the fact that they haven’t talked price makes me think they’re gonna try for 40-60 dollar price point which is laughable for how much content was teased in that trailer.

It depends. I admit I like what I see so far, but we don’t have a lot of details. I only just started logging in to the game again after they made the Living Story permanent and able to be completed on my own schedule, and I only started actually playing the game again after the recent log-in rewards were implemented.

My loyalty to ArenaNet is tenuous at best. Whether I buy or not will probably hinge heavily on how I feel I am being treated as a customer, specifically in regards to their communication. I realize my stance is probably not the “norm”, but I vote with my wallet even to the point of not spending money on a game that I actually like, if I feel disrespected by a company’s management.

Wow, that came out more negatively than I meant it to. I’m mostly neutral about ANet at the moment (except for Gaile Gray, whom I’ve always had a lot of respect for), and I really want to buy HoT. But hey, they have their policy and I have mine. :-P

[ETA: Actually, I should mention that in addition to Gaile, I have an equal amount of respect for Chris Whiteside and Josh Foreman (does Josh even still work for ANet?)]

If your original statement is there minbariguy then it didn’t come out as negative at all. You were being honest and not being a blind supporter to the game. And with Anet’s track record with GW2 having tenuous loyalty is probably good as this company seems to thrive off keeping its consumers in the dark as much as possible. Which IMO shows a lack of confidence in their product.

Do you really think something with that much content will be that low? I mean sure it isn’t a huge expansion from what has been revealed so far, but the fact that there introducing a new class all together it wont go for that cheap.

look here:
http://store.guildwars.com/store/gw/en_IE/cat/categoryID.67871700/currency.EUR/ccRef.
this is the store with FULL games and they have more content then HoT would ever have, you really think an expansion can be more expensive just because of a new profession, and just one to make things worse.

it’s not “with that much content” but instead “with that little content”.
sure, it’s worth more then $10 but 20-30 is really the max i would pay for it.

How where the original Guild Wars expansions? Having only recently become a fan of the game roughly a year ago. And well that’s the thing, is there a list or more or less what will be in the expansion that we may know of so far?

And I agree around 20-30$ max I really don’t believe it will be anything bigger in terms of content that should equal to any price higher than 30$

I keep seeing so many people say things like “Hmm, I don’t think I’ll buy the expansion because for probably 30$ I’m just getting a new class and a bit more.”

You guys do realize that you paid let’s say 30-60 $ (I personally bought the game on day one of it’s release) for the original game. Since it’s launch it has received several updates, completely free. So in that original value, you got more as time went by.

HoT will be the same. You pay a certain amount now, and yes, maybe it seems like little content now, but it won’t stay like that. It will probably be another 2-3 years of new content being added to it for free.

Plus, they are using this expansion to test out new things. I don’t blame them for not adding more than one specialization per profession. They want to see how it works, what the feedback will be and then they will add more. They’ve said so themselves.

And just like the Original Guild Wars, no one made you buy any of the other games. Everyone could just stick to Prophecies / Factions / Nightfall. You want the extra things? You want heroes? You want better Pvp buy the other ones. You don’t? Don’t buy them. The game is totally playable in it’s vanilla form and you’ll just be looking at other people talking about the new stuff and you won’t be able to join.

Want to take down Mordremoth? Want to enjoy future updates? Then buy HoT. You don’t, don’t buy it. Simple.

If the whole LS addition to GW2 had been packed together and sold as an expansion, I would have asked for my money back, and deleted the game. If this expansion is smaller than that, with no new actual game play, but is just an addition of a new class that has to be ‘skinned’ and more grinding AP that don’t have anything to do with skill or tactics, but are just a way to grind more skins (precursors). Then I will not buy this expansion. 2 years of grinding to make my charactor pretty is plenty.

As Zenith says… for $30 you can actually get FULL games which you might have more fun playing and which you might play longer than this expansion.

Example: I bought DayZ Standalone, which is a huge map online apocalypse game, that is continually getting new content (recently cars got added, before that a weather system, and in a while diseases will be added) for just $23.

Maybe he has considered that. Maybe his enjoyment of the game differs from yours. I don’t think you should be judging another players experience based on your own.

What you see as “soul-crushing grind” is just game play for another person.

As far as the grandchildren reference, why do you play games at all if that is going to be your legacy? No game you play today will exist when your grandchildren come along. What would be the difference between telling your grandchildren what you said above and saying, “Well, I had the most amazing experience playing a game that doesn’t exist now and you have never heard of.” Either way, your grandchild will not care. ANET tricked us with its manifesto for the basic GW2, selling an half finished (never finished) product, abusing its own fans hopes.
They still have to balance or fix a lot of the basic game (Necromancer mechanics and Necromancer’s Minions, Terrible Istances Mechanics, Zergfest Everywhere, PVE Meta, PVP Meta, …).
They yet showed how their Update System works (JUST tooltip fixes multiple times, MINOR updates every 6 months).
They yet showed incompetence in balancing their errors and meta (Necromancer, Dhuumfire, anyone?).
The Living History has been sick and terrible.
There’s plenty of FREE to Play MMOS with a decent graphic and design.

So no, probably I won’t waste other money on this company.

Yes I will. I still have a ton of fun playing the game, I’m far from having done everything I want, and enjoy every moment of it.

I had two concerns before the annoucement :
- that the level-cap would be raised, rendering all my stuff obsolete. But that’s not happening, so, huge relief.
- a new class would be great. And guess what? We’ll get one.

Now I’m not happy with some of the recent changes (PS and new levelling system), but I love some of them (megaserver and replayable LS) For me, GW2 still goes in the right direction. Far from perfect, but still fun as hell.
