Are you going to buy HoT?
I hate PvE and almost everything in it, but I love WvW and PvP. Please give me an example of a better game that gives me a better WvW and PvP experience.
- How about Chivalry: Medieval Warfare? Mount & Blade: Warband also seems like a fun game for large scale medieval warfare. For PvP, any fighting game should offer better experience. Street Fighter IV for example.
YES !
ABSOLUTELY !
YOU BET !
I’ve been on the forums an inordinate amount of time. Apparently I really want the expansions lol XD

Chivalry is certainly a fun game but it’s a first-person shooter but with more emphasis on hack-n-slashing (first-person hack-n-slasher?) which is nothing at all like GW2’s WvW.
Mount & Blade is also a really good game but again nothing at all like GW2’s WvW.
And to suggest Street Fighter IV as a replacement for GW2’s PvP is just laughable. It’s like comparing apples to oranges, no, more like comparing apples to potatoes. Did you even put much thought into this post?

Only thing just like GW2’s WvW is GW2’s WvW. You were asking about other games so I guess there’s got to be some common features or themes between different games. I figured features like playing a single character, multiplayer, 3D-battlefield, medieval siege theme would be close to what GW2’s WvW represents. And of course for PvP you could be thinking the essense of GW2’s PvP is having capture points, so I guess my suggestion was quite far off.
Are you going to buy HoT? u say . hmmm ……………………… shut up and take my money
Only thing just like GW2’s WvW is GW2’s WvW.
And that, my friend, is exactly my point. That is why I keep playing GW2 despite not liking the majority of the game (PvE) and that is why your previous statement (“you have to like the whole package, otherwise you should look for a different game”) is false.
I’m confident ArenaNet will set a mutually agreeable price point. And then oh yes, the new shinies will be mine.
SHINIES!!!
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
Yes, but at release that is pending. I might be waiting for it to be thrown into a bargain bin depending on the price vs quality.
Right now it seems the expansion will be very small in terms of actual content and features. 1 wvw map, 1 map and game mode for spvp, and a region thrown in, 1 profession, specializations that are double edged swords, Guild Halls (should have been there at release)
When it comes to regions , sure they can be big but there are some zones out there that are just barren and have nothing going on (dynamic events).
This game needs more dynamic events thrown in to existing Maps. Every poi should have an event ready to start once you walk within the vicinity.
I don’t think everything has to have some deep didactic purpose. There’s nothing wrong with taking some time to decompress and relax your brain. I use the game to relieve stress, and relieving stress is healthy.
- Fair enough. But is it relaxing though? My experience of logging into game has been that the game gives me laundry list of tasks that I should be doing. I think fun things are those that are spontaneous, the opposite of goal-oriented and organized behavior.
Spontaneity comes from your fellow players. The game itself can’t provide random bursts of activity that exactly appeal to everyone. It seems to me that the people posting about the most fun experiences are those who have arranged riddle hunts, beach parties, WvW dolyak parades, Fun Box statue contests, in-character LA citizen rescues, etc.
The lists are there to help those who need some structure. If you don’t want structure, then go do your own thing with the rich world provided.
If nothing else the expansion will provide new things to see and I really doubt it will be any more linear quest line designed than the base game.
But if you aren’t sure the game will be worth whatever price gets attached to it, oh well. You can always wait for the reviews. If it turns out to be amazing, you can buy it and just regret the interim in which you didn’t get to see the shiny new stuff; if it doesn’t appeal, you can stick with the base game laundry lists or just not play until the mood strikes you once again.
Yes, of course.
I work a lot and I have a good job, money is not a problem.
If you are telling me if I will have time to play it, uhm… probably not
Heck yeah I’m going to buy it. Hopefully there’s a collectors edition of the expansion because I’d buy it, as long as it isn’t more than like $250 e.e $250 is way too much, but I would probably do it, but that is my maximum I will pay. If there is no collectors edition, I am not going more the $60 price of a new game. Already getting my Tomes of Knowledge ready for my new Revenant and my Ascended sets crafted for it =3 I hope they release it in the summer though, because I want time to play it a bunch before college starts back up, and I get busy again :/

GW2 is 2/3 PvP, PvE is actually the minority of the game……but each their own.
I was half hoping this thread would be comprised of alternative ways to acquire HoT instead of exchanging money.
The check is already made out to Anet! ^.~

Depends if Revenant is the Dervish 2.0
If it is, I probably wont be able to help myself.
If it isn’t. It’ll take a lot more marketing to convince me.
I won’t be jumping the wagon as all of the features in this ‘expansion’ should have been in the game since day one. A new race might have made me slightly consider getting this, now I that have no race to pin the Revenant on and playing two of same race goes against my principals. You people have fun, I won’t be anything new you don’t already have in GW2.

Yes, just wait until its real cheap. Though I think the hype is so strong that it won’t be going on sale for a long time because of the amount of sales.
I hope the majority of players get access to the beta to see if the expansion is any good.
I wish Anet would have made an expansion the size of their standalone campaigns for GW1 and sell it for $40 but this is no where near that big.
No, at least not until I read more info (GS on necro is a massive incentive but if we are going to have raid-like bullkitten, then no ty.)
Why do you hate raids?
./Sigh Im actually undecided at the moment….
At first I was very excited and could not wait for the release…
But after giving it some thought, there are two things that made me reconsider.
Price : So far, from what we have been told… I think that a price tag above $35 is too
much. There just doesn’t seem to be enough content to warrant a $60-$80 price tag.
New-New Trait System : I’m glad that the current Trait system is going away…
But what are we getting in its place? It may be something even worse. We don’t know.
So until I see those two questions answered, I am on the fence about HoT.
Yup Yup YUP!
Looking forward to it.
I’ve already tried to buy it, but unfortunately anet is not yet willing to take my money
:`(
Of course. Might even get the collectors addition. But we’ll see about that.
I’m going to have to wait until it’s released and I get all the information about the new content, then I’m going to have to think long and hard before I decide if I want to keep playing this game after 2 years, and all my characters already looking the way I want them to and having all the best gear (well almost, I’m not grinding for exotic armor that gives a minimal stat boost, it’s a waste of time).
It will depend on the final prize and the final stuff that the expansion brings.
So far, to me it is small content, so ill buy it if it has a small prize.
Without thinking twice. Prefereably for around 20$ but I suppose I won’t QQ at 50$, although I would like to..
Private retriever of runaway NPCs
Mistband[MIST] – PVP Training guild EU
I don’t care what price it is im going to buy it so hard
50 euroes would be way overpriced for just adding a few things and a new profession
will buy if its good. but not just for one new class and a new area and some minor changes…
Of course I’ll ! Finally true new content which will (I hope) bring new experiences never seen before in GW2

I won’t buy ANYTHING until I know how strongholds will work. It may be the closest, with the current mechanic, to GW1 GvG there is. However, I am skeptical on the feel of it. The mechanic focuses too much on a solo-style game play. GvG in GW1 was team oriented. Yes, I know about spit teams and even where a single profession (mostly ranger or assassin), but you really had to know your profession. I really feel that Anet traded one fan base for another, but that isn’t the topic today, is it?

A lot of people who liked Guild Wars 1 assume that most people liked Guild Wars 1 for the same reason they did, in the same way they did. I don’t believe that to be true. I don’t believe half the people who played Guild Wars 1 ever participated in Guild vs Guild, let alone liked it. As Guild Wars 1 grew as a game, they moved away from PvP and into PvE. You could see how the game started to evolve. That must have meant that a lot of players didn’t play Guild Wars 1 the way you think they did. Or at very least they started trading their fan base a long long time ago. Long before Guild Wars 2 came out.

I actually had played GW1 since it’s open beta and GvG’ed for 7 YEARS. I enjoyed the PvP aspect AND the growing PvE evolution of the the game. The PvP of GW1 was what got it’s popularity. To me it was balanced in the end with the PvP and PvE.
I like the PvE of GW2, but the PvP (structured) is too “copy/paste” for my taste. I don’t mind WvWvW. To me, that would be good casual PvP.
Ofcourse! GW2 is by far the best game I ever played. I don’t really care about the price because I have the money. C:
With about 2000hrs played id say its a no brainer…of course im buying it.
WHY CAN’T I BUY IT YET!?!?!?
|Seasonic S12G 650W|Win10 Pro X64| Corsair Spec 03 Case|
Yes I’ll buy it. Because ANet has been earning my trust for 10 years. I know it’ll be fan-flappin-tastic!
To me it will depend on how much of this content will be available for use outside if maguuma. Will the gliders be usauable outside of the expansion pack boundries such as queensdale? Will my specialization be usuable in silverwastes? See what I’m saying?
Totally going for it!
Unfortunately my character slots are all in use, so in best cases ANet will increase the available character slots by one for free along with the expansion, or I’ll have to buy it for 10 bucks.
Just to get out there and test the new class they’re bringing out.
However, I wont be playing with the Revenant for a long while after the launch of HoT. For I don’t wish to get in to unbalancing the classes available, not even for a moment. Had enough of this madness on World of Warcraft with each expansion that added a new race or when Death Knights were added… Good luck trying to play nice and smooth inside of chaos.
Anyways, I’ll be looking towards to this expansion!

The gliding will not be usable outside the new zone, but other masteries will. Your specialization should be usable anywhere in the game, certainly in PvE at any rate.
But the gliding would break older maps and can’t be used there. However that doesn’t mean it can’t be used in new maps going forward.
Willing to buy but first i’d like to experience/see what the community says about HoT. If is exactly the same all than Gw2 then no.
