Some people avoid the official forums, until they read somewhere that there’s a huge outcry over an expansion that makes them want to chip in.
lol I bet it’s a lot more than we think it is, too.

Give them to veterans for the new class. Give those of us who were conned by the FAQ something as compensation for the damages (as we did not have the play time to justify parity with veterans), and leave the base version as it is. This is well within their power.
You still need GW2 to play HoT. Most people have been playing GW2 for a long time. Just because Anet is including GW2 with HoT does not mean you or any veteran player has suffered any actual damages.
Yet another freshly made Anet damage control account.. This is just getting pathetic.
You’ve got a lot of tinfoil on your head, buddy.
Just because Bubalu didn’t post before this doesn’t mean it’s ‘freshly made’. They have a character in-game with 25,238 AP and are currently playing in WvW as I talk.Sure. Whatever you want to think. For people like Bubalu with strong vocal opinions to remain silent on the hundreds of controversial topics till now is nill, but whatever you say.
I have been playing for months and I’ve barely posted on the forums either. Apparently the 25 thousand AP and the account currently in use is not enough for me to prove it to you. Add them yourself.
Did I touch a nerve our something? I said whatever you say.
Poe’s Law. ‘Whatever you say’ is generally considered to be sarcastic or a statement of disbelief, and it’s hard to transmit that kind of intonation (or a lack thereof, in this case) through text.

The expansion cost is $50. The GW2 vanilla client is free.
The issue with that is now unintentionally they have opened yet another can of worms.
For example, I want GW2 without HoT free of charge. I would like my free game now please. If I decide I like my new free game I might consider buying HoT. Why is my free game not available in the shop ? Why am I being forced to pay for HoT, I don’t remember ever having to buy an expansion. I would just like to play the good old content without concerning myself with the new stuff.
The hole their digging is going to continue to get deeper if the stay silent.

Well personally I saw the 50$ tag and thought wtf. I read the part about the included base game and, well I had no special thought about that in particular.
Many of us just don’t think it’s going to be worth 50$.. Considering that is basically the cost of a new game. They have not hinted anything near the amount of content coming I would consider paying 50$ for. And without a char slot, really? come on…

Pardon the pun, but I don’t buy this at all. That is pretty steep for an expansion. I seriously doubt the MAP will be as big as the core map.

http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/False+Advertising“Proof Requirement
To establish that an advertisement is false, a plaintiff must prove five things:(1) a false statement of fact has been made about the advertiser’s own or another person’s goods, services, or commercial activity; (FAQ said “BUY GW2 NOW!! U NEED IT FOR EXPANSHUN!!”)
(2) the statement either deceives or has the potential to deceive a substantial portion of its targeted audience; (Anyone during the time the FAQ was active)
(3) the deception is also likely to affect the purchasing decisions of its audience;
(Do I even need to explain this one again?)(4) the advertising involves goods or services in interstate commerce; and
(Not relevant afaik)(5) the deception has either resulted in or is likely to result in injury to the plaintiff. The most heavily weighed factor is the advertisement’s potential to injure a customer. The injury is usually attributed to money the consumer lost through a purchase that would not have been made had the advertisement not been misleading. False statements can be defined in two ways: those that are false on their face and those that are implicitly false.
"
Granted, they are refunding accounts purchased within the last 30 days. But the FAQ went up before 30 days ago. This doesn’t cover the greasy activity of showing off the Revenant then saying “delete ur toon or pay up lol”. But between the two, I think the FAQ scandal is far more important.
I literally just said to this other person that this was absolutely not an ANet account. Please read and pay some measure of attention.
That person has a character with 25,000 AP. It’s nowhere near ‘freshly made’ and they are not a developer.

No, really.
The problem is the marketing, the price is a small problem, very small… unless people play Guild Wars 2 really don’t have a job.
The problem is everyone FEELS jipped because new players are getting a free copy of a very old game…
The problem is recent new players have to contact customer support to get close their discounted copy of core so they can save 10 dollars to buy HoT with free core.
Reality is if they did not announce any “freebies” and said 50 bucks.. people will buy the game moan a little and move on.
A better move is to have another 10 dollar sale on core on this announcement… everyone wins.
So the best move is to sell everything for a price and never give it away. Humans are naturally, hmm.. people on the internet are easily irritated by trivial things like someone else getting a freebie they cannot get. Anet should know better based on the reaction of people that couldnt grind a portal stone, when people are announcing they got 3 in 1 hour.

New games are 60-80$ now even GW2 base was 60$ when it first came out. Odds are the prices will keep going up. Why would a char slot make it better though? Is 10$ make or brake for something you may have put 200 hr+ into and are able to put even more down the rode?

They should update the page to show both an upgrade and a complete package (selecting either one would open up the standard/deluxe/ultimate packages under them). The upgrade would be $49.99 and only offer the expansion whereas the complete package would additionally include the base game. The complete package should be listed with a 59.99 price tag and as a “promotion” be on sale for $10 off. Behind the scenes, they would actually be the same item and the change would be nothing more than a visual mask. If they would have simply had a price difference from the beginning, this specific issue wouldn’t exist. GW2 was only $10 a few weeks ago after all.
The belief that it’s not worth $50 however would still be an issue.

Well, I won’t be pre-purchasing anything until there’s a release date. That said, I think that they missed a golden opportunity here. If it was me, I wouldn’t include a character slot at all in any of the editions. After all, some people already have a slot lined up for a revenant and others are maxed out on character slots. Instead what I’d do is include 800 gems in the standard edition (the cost of a character slot), 1,600 in the deluxe edition and 5,000 in the ultimate edition.
Then, I’d put character slots on sale at 50% off to celebrate the launch of pre-purchases and watch them roll in.

As someone who bought the game 33 days ago, my biggest problem with this whole thing is that the base game was put on sale several times recently, the FAQ for Heart of Thorns explicitly stated that the base game would be required to play the expansion, and there was no indication whatsoever that the base game would be given away with the expansion. That’s not an out-and-out lie, and it’s possible that this was just a series of marketing missteps, but it FEELS nefarious. It feels like I just got cash-grabbed. Had the base game not been discounted, I would probably have waited to hear more about the expansion before purchasing it.
To compound the matter, I submitted a ticket to Support about it, and received not one but two auto-replies that basically dodged the issue by stating that I am not eligible for a refund, when I stated in my original ticket and my reply to the first email from Support that a refund wasn’t what I was looking for. This is a fun game, but the out-of-game experience with ArenaNet is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

At lest Fallout 4 alone wroth 60$ consider it complete new game and guarantee ton of content in it. I don’t mind if they bundle with all previous FO game with that price since price of those game is so cheap on steam sale. but if it price reach 100$+ and while bundle with previous game and call it free i might think twice to get it.

Those kind of deals do happen, but they are often paired with a discount or some other bonus for existing customers. I’ve seen quite a few games on Steam have offers like this. Buy game 2 and get game 1 free, or get x% off of game 2 if you already own game 1. It offers value to both new and old customers, and is good PR move.
I think it’s most common to have the previous games offered at a discount in a separate bundle package, though. Probably because it’s a more simple, straight-forward system.
What Anet has done with HoT just shows complete disrespect for the existing players. It was an absurdly incompetent oversight to not see the PR nightmare this would cause. Even more so for the unbelievable decision to continue selling the core game for 6 months under the premise that a separate purchase was required to play HoT. Then going back-pedaling on that along with a ninja-edit of the HoT FAQ to reflect the new deal.

And that would be silly becuse the game makers are giving you the free version of the games so you can play them ontop of the new game. What the real rip off are the redone HD version at near full prices. Games like Bayonetta 2 gave you Bayonetta 1 for free yet there was no crazy uproar about this as far as i know. I bet nier 2 will have nier 1 with it too becuse they fill in story that you as a new player may not know of becuse there where not as popular as other games or it has been a long time in-between releases.
If any thing its odd to see game makers to put out expansion with out giving you the base for free. Think of it from a business stand point why would you make a game that only one system can play and on-top of that only be playable with another game. It makes the fee for entry all the higher.

It’s kind of like buying a seat for that mission to Mars. At least finish it first, and tell us what we’re buying.
I think preorders and early access have really lowered the bar. Everyone is expected to just throw money at games that aren’t even finished yet, with no idea what they’ll be getting by the time that they ARE finished. This ship needs to be turned around.

It all comes down to one question:
Is the expansion, the access to beta and the title worth it to you to pre-purchase? If so, then by all means, buy it.
It isnt? Then do what I do and wait for:
a) more information on content and
b) a better deal.
The world will not crash if you dont get immediate access to expansion.
With mmo’s and the ongoing hype’ing technique a lot of companys use since WoW, its always smart to wait until last possible moment to pre-purchase – or not pre-purchase at all.
No use getting angry about it, just keep this incident in mind when next time you are tempted to spend real money on gems
My experience at least.

So it’s not free, and if you want to play GW2 (assuming you don’t already own it) you are now forced to buy the xpac.
So I guess that whole “The core game is free the $50 if for the xpax, you get the core game free when you buy the xpac” is blown out of the water. If I have to spend money in order to get the core game by very definition it is not free.

As a vet, I see the newby vets who want a refund and have also in the meantime bought gems as potentially getting shafted the hardest. They are being treated as defaults on a car loan except that even after they’ve made the default stopper payment to get their ride back, anet gives them their car(gw2) back, but keeps any new parts that they bought while they had it(gems).
That’s as kittened as a kitten ever got kittened in the kitten with multiple kittens.

I’m sure there are people who are flipping out because “OMG they had to pay and how dare new players not have to pay for the expansion”. I view these same people as the reason why we have mail carriers. Wave a shiny in their face and they’ll go trotting off.
There are those of us that simply want the expansion because we already own the core game. There may be distrust that the additional core game won’t cause a problem with the current core game being run. It may just be the fact that people don’t want to pay for something they already purchased. Whatever it is, offering just the expansion would be an expected offering and it isn’t.
If they want to acknowledge the core game isn’t worth anything now, cool. Hand it out like Oprah handing out cars… go for it ANet and tell the stores to start passing it out for free too. Still doesn’t explain why we can’t have a fourth package just for the expansion. Not even asking for freebies in it. I just want the ability to just buy the expansion. That’s it.
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Najten.2418
I get that the price of the expansion is €44,99, and that the game is included just to avoid the problems you had with for instance a certain other MMO Whose Name Shall Not Be Named which required you to buy core game + 3 expansions to enjoy the 4th expansion…
But how is this fair to those that actually went out and bought GW2 core, in anticipation of HoT? Those that spent €35ish now spent that for “nothing”?
A bundle offer is great, but there should be an “upgrade only” option for those that don’t need the core game.

Its free with the purchase of HoT. Did you buy HoT yes or no? If yes then you get ONE free copy (mostly to help get new ppl to play it) if no then you do not get it. Look at free shipping / handling with the purchase of a good dose this mean that its free to have you send any thing you want even if you did not buy the good that you must to get this “deal?”
Why do i get the feeling ppl are spending way too much time in the video game world and seemed to have caused them to lose all perception with real world economics.

Still doesn’t explain why we can’t have a fourth package just for the expansion. Not even asking for freebies in it. I just want the ability to just buy the expansion. That’s it.
It’ll just be the same package you see now for $50 but it won’t include the core game.

It was stated that Support would grant HoT to people who recently purchased the game. Probably within like 2 weeks or so, I’m guessing.

You can’t play it unless you get the full HoT package, so for all intents and purposes the core game is also $50, since that is the monetary barrier to playing the game at all now.

The terms are that they get a refund on their current account(only) and receive a blank slate copy of HoT/GW2.

So? If they are willing to acknowledge that their core game is so screwed up with their attempts to cater to the lowest common denominator that they want to give it away to new players then let them. I just want the expansion.
I realize it is shocking that I’m not demanding huge price cuts or freebies. I’ve only suggested they could make a fourth offering of the expansion at $40 but if they want to keep it at $50 I would be fine with it. As long as it is packaged with the core game though, not happening.

Except, it seems they are not – http://imgur.com/zPywVMI | http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3a95r8/to_those_who_said_anet_will_support_people_who/
It’s confusing because in another reddit thread you have an ANet rep saying they will, as you noted.
Also, as regards HoT, the whole 30 days thing is somewhat sketchy, as ANet have been pushing sales since the xpac was announced, several months back – which is when they stated you needed to first buy the base game. So, if refunds or upgrades are going to be offered, it should be anyone who bought the game after that date, thinking they needed it – but actually didn’t.
