Legendarys Easier? what?
I think it’s confirmed that precursor crafting is linked to masteries, no? It probably will require crafting… I mean as you said legendaries required crafting anyway, but what you gain through masteries and what you have to do with those masteries could be anything as far as we know.
Linked in the way that you would very likely need to advance in masteries to reach extra areas to complete the precursor collections (it was stated that the precursor acquisition will be collection based), i.e. having a proficiency in whatever language it is we’re learning (the name escapes me now) to access extra areas, and having a certain level of mastery in gliding to reach other areas in the same manner.
This is in all intents and purposes the precursor scavenger hunt that was mentioned over a year ago.
The acquisition of Mawdrey was a way to test and see if this was a viable method of acquisition. From where I’m sitting, I would undoubtedly say that it was indeed incredibly well done and successful so I am looking forward to this.
In turn to address the OP: Would this be easy? No. No easier than using a credit card to buy gems → gold → precursor. And literally any of the other components. Or outright buying the legendary its-self.

Grinding gold is easy, they are handing out legendarys now because social casual gamers cry. They dont want to put the time in to earn what everybody else has. They want it now and without a challenge.
Perhaps for those that don’t actually have lives but for people who aren’t able to play several hours every day of the year, grinding the amount of gold needed for Legendary weapons is far from “easy”. Some people want to play the game without it being like a job (MUST grind for hours everyday to earn enough gold!!).
Trying to make casual players seem like whiners is pretty elitist of you. With work, a wife, life, I probably average an hour of gaming per day each week. I’ll normally try and do a couple dungeon paths and other things, making progress on alts, etc, and that means I make a few gold in a day. A year of steady play like that wouldn’t even get me close to what 1 Legendary costs. As for drops, I’ve never had a precursor drop, let alone even have anything worth more than 3 gold drop.
I’ve been playing since the pre-launch and had initially hoped to work towards being able to get one, but have just felt the legendary dream get farther and farther out of reach as time has progressed. I’m no closer now than a year ago. I do hope that getting a precursor does end up more doable in HoT. With the current “ease” of getting a legendary, I won’t have one before 2020.
Playing only 1h per day makes obtaining a legendary harder, yes, but if you don’t have the time to undertake such a large project, why do it in the first place? Also, making only a few gold in 1h is rather little, you can get a good deal more if you focus your efforts a bit and not waste time. You can easily make 6.5g hard cash (not to mention cash from tokens and drops) in 30-35 mins of running CoF p1, SE p1 and CM all paths, then spend a few mins crafting to take advantage of the gated items to add a few more gold and you easily get to ~10g/day hard cash with some 15-20 mins to go faff around on alts or play PvP or stare at the cool sights this pretty game has to offer. 10g per day in 1 year gets you any legend with money to spare, provided you don’t squander the money on other stuff (and the temptation is stroooooong, I know).
Learn to be more efficient if time is short and stop asking for things that are already easy to be made even easier just to accomodate you. Even though legends are not what they were supposed to be since they can be bought off the TP, a critical flaw in their design, they are still prestigious items and therefore should have heavy requirements. Let’s hope they learned this lesson with the HoT legends. I’m really hoping they add PvP requirements as well, since legends can now be used in PvP.
You validated my point entirely, so thank you. What you suggest is to play the game like it’s work, don’t play for fun, play for being as efficient and fast to earn coin as possible. Your example describes the exact opposite of what players that play to enjoy the game want to do. I’m not going to be a “80 Zerkers only , ping gear or kick, Fast fast fast run!!!” 30-35 minutes to run 6 dungeons isn’t the typical player’s reality. There’s times I’ve waited that long just to find a group for 1 dungeon, let along the time to do it.
I offered you advice on how to obtain what you want given your severe time limitations and now you imply that I am some sort of monster who bashes on the little casual players. How very nice, thank you.
It’s not work. You work because you have to, if you don’t you will starve and die. I doubt the same applies to getting a legend in-game.
Here is a truth that you and others like you will have to learn to accept: if you don’t do the thing, you won’t get the shiny. Simple as that (credit card excluded, ofc). Complaining that there is no way to obtain a legend for chatting in Divinity’s Reach, viewing 2 vistas or completing 5 events a week is ridiculous. Legends are in no way mandatory, you can play and enjoy the game just fine without one. People are not entitled to having them handed over just for buying the game. You want the shiny, you do the thing. Tens of thousands of people have managed it, if not more, and many for much more than just one legend.
I can sympathise with your situation but the hard fact is that you are faced with 2 options: either become efficient, or renounce this goal until you get a (very) lucky drop. There is no reason to make legends easier to obtain than they already are.

Yeah, there’s plenty of reasons.

Legendarys are already too easy, why make them easier? These are supposed to be “LEGENDARY” weapons, not something handed out by walking around a few zones collecting stuff. They needed to increase the difficulty of obtaining legendarys. That or make Ancient Legendarys for those of us that actually want a challenge. Make them 5-10x Harder to obtain then current legendarys.
You can buy them from the tradepost, what is legendary about that.

You can avoid all RNG by buying the precursor. It’s what I think 99% of the people who made legends did, the chances to get a drop of the exact precursor you want are… wow (although a friend did get his exact precursor, that lucky kitten!). And the people who wasted fortunes on the MF and got nothing are victims of their own greed, not of RNG.
Most of this thread seems to be GW2 elitists bashing anybody who doesn’t own a Legendary.
Nobody is a “casual gamer” because they don’t want to grind for a precursor, and nobody is “cheap” because they can’t afford one. If anything, this update helps break those boundaries and lets anybody earn a Legendary with a balanced and fair-for-all path.
Most of all the complaining here is from the vain people who feel like their efforts are all for nothing and don’t wanna risk any damage to their ‘l33t’ status because that sword they’re flinging around is easier to get now, pshhh….
if you think it’s easy to get a Legendary then good for you, but that’s just your opinion.
Not every player grinds gold 24/7. Legendaries are thoroughly out of my reach and I don’t mind; I dislike most of the skins.
Pretty much agree with this, not too many are “Legendary” looking, compared to their counterparts.
Legendaries ceased to be “legendary” the instant it was available for purchase using in-game gold. So basically, it was never legendary.
RNG doesn’t make something legendary or more of a “status symbol”, and it’s a large component of the crafting process.
edit: slightly rephrased for clarity.
All true and the reason I have never pursued one (that and most of them seriously don’t look that “Legendary” in any event). The obsession level I see in some players to obtain a Precursor/Legendary is simply mind boggling….
If a Precursor ever dropped for me, I might consider the long term goal of one, but I’d most likely sell it. I can use the gold much better than a non-status symbol that I don’t really find appealing.

Please inform me exactly what is hard about making a legendary? I think the word you are looking for is
tediousrandom.
Fixed it for ya.
