As much as I like Trahearne’s character (as opposed to most GW2’s characters) I think it would be a nice finale of his story if it turned out that after the Pact fleet’s crash we know nothing about him for a while only to find out later that he got corrupted by Mordremoth and became his lieutenant, leading a new army of mordrem sylvari. And at some point in the personal story we would get to kill him. What do you guys think?

I kinda hope not, i like Trahearne always have even when he was so bland to listen to. plus he has Caledbog and is the closest first born to the pale tree(guessing as he was chosen to be her champion), if anything id say hes the one least likely to get corrupted.

That’s the beauty of it, it would show that no sylvari is really safe from Mordremoth’s reach. The hero that saved Tyria from Zhaitan only to serve another dragon now – it’s tragic and beautiful. It would be kind of a plot twist that I honestly missed in GW2’s personal story and something I really enjoyed in GW1, such as Vizier Khilbron turning out to be Undead Lich.

It’s a possibility, but then they’d have to find a new leader for the Pact, and most people won’t want that responsibility, or will argue because they’d be biased to a faction. kind of like this forum As interesting as this story might be, I doubt Trahearne will turn. Besides, who says we need to end his story so soon?

No it would be to obvious, i KNEW Vizier Khilbron was a baddie the moment i spotted him, and when everyone else in my family was feeling betrayed when he turned out to be the lich, i was laughing because i was right! Plus hes in the personal story and if i do recall correctly, they wont kill off characters from the personal story in living story episodes so it doesnt cause confusion among newer players, and that thinking may carry over to the expansions too.

But hey, who knows! could happen, i hope not! but it could!

I don’t think this is true. Lots of the personal story characters can be killed off, because they aren’t in the permanent world. Just look at the mentors: they only existed in the personal story, and they died at Claw Island. (sorry, new people, if you didn’t know this) I’m pretty sure HoT will clearly be going on after Living Story, Season 2, and thus Trahearne and all of Destiny’s Edge could be killed off. Will they is another question, one that seems doubtful.

Yes, I am annoyed that Caithe has been giving us the runaround, but if she hadn’t kept us distracted on this side mission (that is equally important to the Pact attack), we would’ve been on the airships that were destroyed. In a roundabout way, she saved us from that fate. Still not happy about it, but it’s something. And you can bet she will have a very good reason why she’s doing it.

Not really. Sylvari would not have gone on that mission if she had just told the pact commander and her brother what she knew. Send the Sylvari pact members to hold Jormag and crystalface back, while they work out how to stop Mordremoth from mindcontrolling them. They cannot be corrupted by the other dragons, so would be great at this.

Yeah. In fairness, the instant I saw “Vizier …” I put him in the “bad guy” list. That’s Viziers for you: the nicer they seem, the more concerned they seem to be for you/the princess/the kingdom/whatever, the worse they are and all the more predictable their sudden but inevitable betrayal.

I think that the word Vizier originally meant “a despicable, complete and utter kitten” in Arabic, but the meaning was changed by one of the many evil Viziers.

corrupted trahaerne would be too op. Have you seen caledbog? We could never win.

Just calling it now: he does get corrupted and its BECAUSE of Caledbolg. We know that the Pale Tree and the Sylvari were created as the dragon’s minions, and the Pale Tree gave Caledbolg out to its own champions. There is a very high chance that there will be a plot element involving this legendary sword being a more concentrated form of the Pale Tree’s (and by extention Mordremoth’s) power. The thing might even be a TOOTH of Mordremoth.

Whether we end up having to kill Trahearne or not, I fully expect that he will fall under Mordremoth’s influence at some point in the storyline. It just makes so much sense as a mid-story twist: the brightest hope turned to fight for the enemy — its a pretty pervasive trope for a reason! Redemption stories almost always make for a good read/playthrough.

Keep in mind though: there’s a part in Orr where you cleanse a corrupted Orrian chicken of Zhaitan’s influence, and some of the Sylvari are cleansed as well (Canach & players most notably atm). So even if he does turn, we may end up trying to save him via purging Mordremoth’s influence.

But don’t you see, Trahearne has been working for Mordremoth from day 1. The dragons don’t work together, so Trahearne was programmed to get rid of Zhaitan so Mordremoth’s plans wouldn’t be interfered with by Zhaitan. Trahearne made that happen, and as the next step, led the pact forces into a trap to eliminate them to make the road clear for his master.

Having Trahearne turn evil could create some interesting story development.

On one hand the story could have Trahearne actually turn evil and become a powerful Champion of Mordremoth. At the end of which we get to finally kill him.

Or another way to do it would be to have Caithe (as far as we know, an agent of Mordremoth) convince Trahearne to purposely pledge himself to Mordremoth in order to infiltrate the enemy. He would be acting as a double agent, and will use deadly force if need be, in order to convince Mordremoth of his loyalty. All the while, secretly giving the player character useful information that could ultimately end Mordremoth.

Then when the time is right, He and Caithe would turn on their “master” and fight side by side with you and redeem themselves.

meh, could be fun.

Trahearne: “This won’t end well.”

You Sir (Or Madame) have with this post single handedly made my entire day, and for that I thank you. Although I must admit I probably laughed more than I should.

As for the whole discussion I agree with both sides of it. Him turning evil would be interesting, but at the same time cliche. Him coming out of it completely untainted however seems unlikely as well. I’d say it would be better to have him corrupted/controlled only briefly. Like Mordremoth compelled him do one single act strongly enough that he couldn’t fight it. Like breaking down a barrier or “opening a door” causing a flood of Mordrem to run in and massacre people.

Alternatively I really liked that suggestion about a corrupt Caladbolg; but you know it doesn’t necessarily have to be Trehearne that is corrupted. The sword could be stolen by another Sylvari in the pact, or perhaps while out in the field (probably a story ‘quest’) Trehearne is attacked by a large number of Mordrem and in the process they take the sword, corrupting it and placing it in the hands of one of Mordrem’s Champions whom we later have to fight, retrieving or breaking the sword (possibly with the power to create our own with one of the shards?).

Player Character: There is still good in him.
Rytlock: He’s more minion now than man. Twisted and evil.
Player Character: I can’t do it.
Rytlock: You cannot escape your destiny. You must face Darth Brocolli…
