Video was 100% better than DH’s. Thank you.

Reaper is pretty generic. I would have liked Wraith better. But at least it is not as “high concept” (contain your laughter please) as the Dragon Hunter.
This really is the sort of name you get when you accept the very first suggestion that someone in the office shouts.
Project lead: “I would like to open the discussion for the name of the new necromancer specialization….”
Random dev: “REAPER!!!”
Project lead: “Alright, reaper it is! Lets go with that!”

It’s a little boring, maybe, but it makes sense, given the context of the class, and it appears to be more of an extension of the necromancer, instead of just throwing warrior mechanics at its face and calling it a Dragonbrawler.
More like:
“After the reception of ‘Dragonhunter’, perhaps we should re-think the name ‘Death Blossom’…”
And yet Dragonhunter makes sense for a Guardian as well, seeing as one of the parts of being a hunter is hunting down dangerous beasts that threatens the people/community. Which is exactly what the Guardian is all about.

Good thing he shouted that out over the whispered “Vinehunter” suggestion.

No less generic a name then warrior or guardian. That wasn’t the problem with DH though. People calling the DH name “generic” where just poorly articulating the issue with it.
Reaper follows the established, expected, and desired naming convention, and is thematically compatible with the profession and elite spec, without overstepping it’s bounds and treading on the territory of another class.
Therefore, it’s good.
And yet Dragonhunter makes sense for a Guardian as well, seeing as one of the parts of being a hunter is hunting down dangerous beasts that threatens the people/community. Which is exactly what the Guardian is all about.
No, it doesn’t. It’s meant to be “evocative of a medieval witch hunter”, but it fails on that front because it also carries the theme of being a “big game hunter”, which is nothing like a witch hunter, and even further from how a Guardian is supposed to feel. The Reaper also, by the looks of it, is bringing something new to the table, and hopefully won’t be a simple rehash of an existing class and build like the Guardian is getting.
Which is exactly what the Guardian is all about.
No. No it’s not.
And even if it /were/, why should they get a name so blatantly “what it’s all about”? Why isn’t Druid actually called “Jungle-learned” then?
BACK ON TOPIC OF HOW AWSESOME REAPER IS:
That sword! It’s the same one from the concept art! So jelly~~~~ That hood too. <3!
Like the hood is what a reaper would wear. :o And the skills MATCH the aim of the specialization. Like, the necro becomes a reaper.
Was I the only one thinking “Mordrem Slasher?!”
Oh yeah, reaper. It was kinda expected. Generic a bit, but I couldn’t think more of a fitting name.
Shk. Dragonhunter.

Yes I can’t wait to hunt down bubbles with my longbow and ground targeted traps as a dragon hunter….

You think we ever get to fight other dragons than Mordremoth and Zhaitan?
That is a bit optimistic.

We will be going after Mordy for two years at least at this rate.

Reaper is good. Nothing to say about that. A bit bit generic maybe, but whatever… It works.

Nope, We’ll do the same what we did with Tower of Nightmares. Inject funny elixir to Mordremoth’s heart (aka Heart of Thorns) and it will explode. Instead of cannonballs we will soon syringe with this yummy liqueur till Mordy dies. After that you will change your minds that Zhaitan’s final encounter is far better, so it can be considered as fixed.

I was poking fun but I edited it for you. Wasn’t impersonating a mod, just parodying the Dragonhunter thread.
Based on the information we know so far I would suggest the following names:
Turtlemancer
Ping-pongmancer
CC’dmancer
Blinded-mancer
No-PvEmancer
These would all be more accurate descriptions of the specialization.
Awesome! – lets hope it plays as awesome as it appears to be.
great name (you know what you are and what you get) , nice video.

It’s alright, just let it go. Seems like majority of players expect all elite specializations to be a natural progression of the base class.
It will happen again when the next round of elite specs come and another profession gets a spec that isn’t a progression of the last elite spec.
I bet a lot of arguments would be something like “This doesn’t make sense, a Ranger goes from a Druid to a Swordsman!? Rangers are already Swordsman!” Even though the spec would be focused on a more melee Ranger.
They were gonna go with the name, “Dark Emo Death Blade Wielder” but got gun shy after the DH naming debacle.
Worst Elite specialization hands down. It basically takes everything the necromancer already did, adds nothing new, then makes them melee and even slower then before. So basically, they’re just as parasitic as before and just as bad as before.
Generic but it fits very well with what they were doing

Its not that dragonhunter is generic.. its that it sounds like a dev gave his 5 year old son a minute to come up with the guard spec name.

Please stop. There are obvious reasons why people don’t like Dragonhunter. Reasons that do not apply to the name Reaper. Mostly, it’s that it isn’t conceptually jarring and it doesn’t needlessly break established conventions.

You appear to confuse your personal, subjective opinion, with that of actual objective fact.

I would love for you to definitively explain offer some facts proving your claim about possibilities.
A rose by any other name, and all that…………..The profession is still the same, and plays the same, regardless of a name.
Reaper is not two words mashed together.
As a matter of fact it is two words mashed together.
er : person occupationally connected with <furrier> <lawyer> …………one that does or performs (a specified action) <batter> —sometimes added to both elements of a compound <builder-upper>
reap : to cut with a sickle, scythe, or reaping machine
When the two words are smashed together, it means “one who reaps, or one who uses a reaper”
Just one more example of uninformed posters, making uninformed claims, I guess.

You don’t get to call when someone’s allowed to like or dislike a name. I responded to a specific criticism about the name, you have no right to put words in our mouths, or substitute the original complain with your own.

Technically, that’s a root word and a suffix, not two words.
Whereas Dragonhunter is actually a compound word.
Anyway, I’ll agree with the commentary above. Reaper is expected and safe, but it’s also a good fit for what is expected of Necromancer and gives the Death Shroud another use. (I don’t really use it normally, so.. yeah.)
I’ll let the actual Dragonhunter name thread stand as my list of reasons why it doesn’t work.

“-er” is not a word, lol. Just because it isn’t obvious to you doesn’t mean it isn’t obvious period. There is a conceptual disconnect that was unexpected both in the context of the Guardian class and in the context of class/spec names/concepts in general. That is a fact.
The only opinion is whether you like it or not. Most people don’t, probably because most people like cohesion and uniformity and dislike needless deviations from convention and names that sound like they came from the head of a 7 year old.
