You kinda do get to choose your heritage somewhere in the story (can’t remember when or where) but I think you can choose Canthan and Elonian too.

If anything you are Krytan by default as that is where you start and supposedly live.
Seems you dislike the humans… soo don’t play one?

Either way your post makes nearly no sense at all.

Pick the “sister killed by centaurs” option, and at one point they ask you where your family line is from. This lets the game set the correct look for the sister.

In my personal made-up backstory my human character actually is descended from my GW1 characters. But all of them. Which makes her 40% Ascalonian, 30% Canthan and 30% Elonian. (Plus some extras I haven’t decided on, because 10 ancestors isn’t enough for all the generations needed.)

This gave me a bit of a dilemma when I got to the point in the Dead Sister storyline where Logan asks where your character and their sister are from (the only options are Krytan, Ascalonian, Elonian and Canthan) but in the end I picked Krytan on the basis that her family has lived there for ages. (Which fortunately got the right skin and hair colours for her sister to look like her.)

I have to say though that if it wasn’t for wanting a character descended from my GW1 characters I probably wouldn’t have made a human at all, I’d have gone for another sylvari because they’re so much more customisable.

Actually every gw2 player would have to be descended from the refugees who went to kryta. As all the ascalonians who stayed are dead.

Don’t know where you got this but it’s completely wrong. First of all Kryta was a colony of Elona. It was the only of the three human kingdoms on the continent of Tyria (not the world of Tyria) to survive the Charr invasion after the Searing. Orr fell, Ascalon fell, Kryta did not fall.

So the remaining humans in theory would be Ascalonian descendants and Krytan descends, not to mention Canthan and Elonans who got trapped here in the intervening years and never left.

There’s no evidence at all that humans in this game are direct descendents of Ascalonians and in fact, you’re given a choice in the human story line to pick where you’re descended from. Ascalon is only one of the choices.

Guild War 2 should be separate spin-off series from the guild wars series. It is so different, and the focus clearly is NOT in humans favour should be a sign of it. But the retconning of lore is the main thrust of it to market towards new players of the guild wars franchise. I mean, the change the Charr went into the current spot-light is very different and has put a lot of guild wars 1 players despise guild wars 2, as players went BACK to GW1 because Anets new product failed them.

Not necessarily true OP.

If you roll human, and select “Dead Sister” as one of your race specific story options, during the ’Fall of Falcon Company" story component Thackery asks for your background. Of which you can choose – Krytan, Canthan, Elonian, or Ascalonian

“Yes. We’re both Krytan.
No, my sister and I trace our lineage to Elona.
Actually, we’re of Canthan descent.
Ascalonian, sir, and proud of it.”

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

There’s Ebonhawke (which is an ascalonian city). Separatist are a thing as well.

And back to OP, there were 3 possible human origin nationalities in GW1 (Ascalonian, Canthan and Istani), and even greater range of choices in gw2 (that adds Krytan, and is far less specific on the Canthan/Elonian region of origin, which allows the possibility of Kurzick, Luxon, Kournan and Vabbian lineage).

I’m Canthan and always will be, European themed ethnicities are way too overused in every game.

I did make the mistake of starting my ele (and also main) in Ascalon only to have the game only done in the proper order timeline/game order wise. But I made a pvp only version of her to have it correct. So my charter looked Ascalonian rather than Canthan, but I told people this was because I had to do the games in order Prophesies→Factions→Nightfall→Eotn I wish I could do a makeover in GW 1 but it was cash only.

My GW2 character identifies as Canthan. I created my GW1 acct when Factions went live, creating by default a Canthan. He traveled to Elona and Tyria, but eventually settled back in Cantha (in the caverns on Shing Jea Isle). He fathered children, one of which would flee to Kryta during Cantha’s reunification. Of this 2nd generation (GW1 being 1st), one would eventually find its way to Elona and bring forth its own bloodline. As for the line directly related to my GW1 main (all-male children), everyone stays in Tyria up until my GW2 character’s birth. His parents are killed by the White Mantle is brought up in a foster family who happen to be nobles. Being a noble, he has access to much more literature, history, & resources than others, and is able to trace his heritage back to a powerful necromancer from Cantha.

Though the bloodline is diluted, Canthan features are very prominent on my character. He knows this. He also knows he’s inherited the same temper & sense of justice from his ancestor, which is why he’s chosen to become a necromancer. After witnessing the path his life has taken, he’s convinced he is his late ancestor, Sors Immani, reincarnate (much how some people have believed to be Napoleon Bonaparte or Ghengis Khan reincarnate).
