After playing Guild Wars 2 for the last 3 days and trying to enjoy this one-time event there are a few things I liked and a lot that should be improved for the next events.

Pros:
- The map design: Nothing to complain about there, looks good and fits into the existing world.
- The dungeon: The best dungeon I have seen in any game yet. Different environments and enemies really made this a lot of fun.
- The jumping puzzles: Also well designed and not too difficult like the Halloween one.

Cons:
- Lags: The game was barely playable. Neither the characters were moving nor was the chat working. Even though this only occures during the event it is really annoying and pretty much ruins the whole experience.
- DCs: A lot of players disconnected during the event or right before they could get to the chest after the boss fight (including me ). The drops seemed to be pretty good from what I have heared but it is really frustrating to fight for a chest for 2-3 hours and get no items at all in the end.
- Login: Login server problems during the event. This is one of the reasons why a lot of players couldn’t finish the boss fight.
- Event length: Phase 1 and 2 were ok, but phase 3 was just way to long in my opinion.
- Bugs: NPC bugs and other bugs all over the event. I thought those events would be tested at least once before they are available for the community?
- Time: Some people have to go to work or school. If there is an event starting on a Sunday make sure it ends before Monday. (Mainly for European players)

As you can see there are way more cons than pros which means there is a lot of space for improvements. For those ones who didn’t get their loot in the end, I am really sorry for you guys. Maybe you will get some sort of reward for this event even though I highly doubt it. I don’t really care about not getting any items but what really frustrated me were the lags and bugs. I wasn’t able to enjoy the new content at all.

I am still looking forward to more events but if they are as bad as this one I am not sure if this is the right way to keep the community motivated.

Awful final event that I could not even complete. I DCed right at the very end and cam e back to a ancient karka corpse and no chest but I got the box on the side of my screen saying that the ancient karka is dead…

ArenaNet you are slowly making me consider taking my old WoW guild up on their offer and go back and play with them…I thought no monthly fee would of been amazing but I am to the point where I would rather pay the fee for a more stable game. This event was a massive flop for me as well as numerous other people. I thoroughly enjoy people linking their awesome new precursors (some people 2…thats right…some people got TWO precursors from the chest) while I just sit here down 16 silver from repairs because I tried so hard to get this event complete (6 times in fact). I am very disappointed in this event and it has made me feel very worried about this game and the time I invest into it in the future…if any at all.

Feedback? mmmkay.

This is my frustrating experience:

I logged in at 21:05, the event had just started and me and my friend wanted to do it together but we found in two different overflows, when trying to join his overflow i always had immense lag and had to relog. In the end i decided that i’d just play alone on the first accessible/lag free server and eventually found an overflow with no lag.
Did the whole event BUT at the final battle i used my necromancer elite skill Lich Form while standing on the rock with the lava under and somehow felt and died (my friend was in Teamspeak talking to me and he said that the rocks would fall in the last cinematic but i had to discover it this way).

But ok even if i felt, i had the waypoint close to the Karka Hive so i decided to just come back since the Ancient Karka’s Hp were still at 80%.
Aaaaaaaand i waited, and waited, but the loading screen after 2 minutes was still there so i had to go on control panel and shut gw2.exe
And then i couldn’t log back in for the next 15 minutes until 23:30-23:40 circa when the event was over and no more loot.

This event has been really frustrating, my friend who has done the whole event with me (altough on a different overflow) was rewarded with gear and everything. While i had to deal with a texture bug and connection issues that blocked me from being rewarded aswell!

3 points of feedback:

1. Mobs are overtuned, starting at level 82, with event mobs at 84, meaning we hit them for very little and they hit us like a freight train. This leads to problems with the other 2 points of feedback.

2. Being culled instantly by mobs you can’t even see isn’t fun, or challenging, it’s just frustrating. I couldn’t see enemies to dodge their roll attack, or jump attack. i just suddenly took a ton of damage and died. The rendering problems are really bad. Enemy players or mobs need to take precedence when the engine is rendering objects for us. It’s more important for us to see our enemies than our friends.

3. The reinforcement phases and escort phases took so long that they were actually boring. Everything being a veteran, and level 84 so they took forever to whittle down, for half an hour per phase just got really boring. Everyone was ready to move on after 10 minutes, max. The adds need to die faster in events like this (don’t scale them 4 levels over players would help) and there needs to be less of them so we can just move on faster and keep things exciting for these events.

I am a massive Anet advocate having played GW1 for years and have argued against many people on numerous occasions that GW2 would be fine in the longer term. but and it is a big but I find it very hard to defend you for this event.

Cons
Trial weekend at same time as major event was naive at best. You upset prospective future players and the current players at the same time.
Bugged 1st phase story lines – never completed mine after numerous attempts
1st and last event too many people in the server/overflows leading to lag issues
Last event too long, boring tedious and repetitive. Without lag issues might have been quicker and more fun. 2 and half hours to complete the event was less than epic!
Trialists getting precursor weapons as a reward is just wrong.
People disconnected from final event did not get chests. My daughter was partied up with me and was disconnected 3 times and the final time the password servers obviously went down and she could not get back on. She could not get on GW1 or forums either to post about this.
Lack of information from ANET in the Forums about the server issues is inexcusable.
Lack of sorry we got this event wrong. I trust you will learn from it.
The rewards were excessive and panders to the “we want stuff now” brigade. Compared to the rewards from dungeons to the 2 and half hours it took to complete this event the loot was way excessive.

Pros
Fractals dungeon – interesting, fun, challenging and long term rewards
Graphics superb through event new area and the fractals dungeon.
20 slot bag reward was awesome!
Pre event warnings were fine andf timely which should allow most people to plan their times. Glad I’m not in Australia though! Perhaps local server timed events would be better?

Moving gathering tools to account bound – great but not event related.

Overall nowhere near as good as Mad King’s event was.

I like the concept of the event, But the bugs at the beginning kind of ruined it for me… Then second phase was not that fun for me either… to much lag from so many people being at the same place at one time…Could hardly see anything… The same with the 3rd phase except lag was much worse and could not enjoy the event, but made it to the final boss fight and completely lagged and could not move and finally when I could move my actions where delayed and I finally get the chest to open, still on a delayed action and I hit the search thingy and the chest disappears and I get no loot from the chest.

Over all rating of the event!!!

Build up to the event..
5 out of 5 stars, Had me hooked…

Phase one…
2 out of 5 stars, Might would have gotten a 4 if not for all the bugs….

Phase two
1 out of 5 stars
Might would have gotten higher if not for the wait time at the beginning and then once on the island there was lag and it seemed like a rushed event.

Phase three
0 out of 5 stars
This last event was bad…. almost 3 hours of lag and constantly getting killed, probably spent 20k on repairs and using way-points after death and then to not get a reward because of lagging out… Might could have gotten a 2 for the items people got at the end, from what i saw some were pretty high end but for all the players who did not get loot at the end including myself from bugs and lag it got a 0

Other events, jumping puzzles Etc Etc….
The over all layout of the island was good and the separate events from the main events were decent, Only did one of the jumping puzzles but it was fun and just a little challenging .
3 out of 5 stars

Overall event rating
2 out of 5 stars
Over all the event was disappointing , You built it up real nice but the event itself was a flop, tons of bugs, Lag, waiting, hardly any drops and when so not very good, These events were harder than your normal type events and the end reward such as exp, karma and money was not very good. The scale of enemies players faced was almost 2 much… seeing almost 30 players killed in all most an instant. In the end the event was not worth all the time I spent on it to do things and then get nothing of worth and many feel the same way…

I absolutely loved the event. I jumped on it with my level 80 warrior. Used my longbow because melee was just pure suicide, no biggy though I am Condition Damage specced anyway.
I did this for 2 and a half grueling hours. With my guildies. My whole guild was on different servers and after 2 hours someone suddenly capped on the Gchat: “kittening hell they’re handing out Precursors!” rejoice was had! But then some people reported getting absolutely rubbish, they didn’t even get ecto’s out of it. I myself also wkitten out of luck it seems, I got s nice bag sure. Just hard to be happy and enjoy the defeat of this big karka thing when everyone else around you are being showered in precursors and and the other half around you almost raging their balls out of their underwear that they absolutely wasted their time.

Just a recap for the unlucky ones:

- Mobs do not drop loot, except the regular crab meat.
- The event lasted an average of 2 hours.
- The only reward are some kitteny exotics and a 20 slot bag.

This event has been a waste of time really. I cannot look back and say to myself: "I am glad I could have made it to the event. That was awesome and I got this “insert unique item” to remember it by. Thank you anet!

Instead I will probably say: “I called of a meeting with a bud of mine to participate in the event and I was shooting arrows at walking fortresses all day. As a reward I got to see other people get precursors while other people got some bag of kitten mixed with more kitten.”

My only gripe with this is the reward. Sub-par. Make everyone get a precursor. Or not at all. This is outragous!

As for the one-time events. I like them, even if I can’t participate in them all it adds a little more feeling of an open world and the idea the devs are still looking at us instead of swimming in their money piles.

But the rewards, shame on you, wasting my time like this. bah!

Anet: you have to fix this. We don’t want another fiasco like this again. Make events for less people or improve your engine. You keep failing at every stress test you perform. Someday your loyal playerbase will say enough. I’m very dissapointed about the weekend. A 20 slot box is not enough to forgive you and RNG gods didn’t want to give me a precursor.

The Ancient karka event chain was challenging, rewarding, and exciting.

The only unacceptable issue was the network latency/lag that plagued SOME of the overflow servers (not sure why this happened). I only know this because when I went to waypoint resurrect, I was stuck at the loading screen and had to restart. I came back to a completely different overflow, and this server lagged horribly during a part of the event that had absolutely no lag on the previous overflow server. The lag was severe — experiencing up to a 10 second delay at times. Returning to the waypoint and walking back to the fight seemed to resolve the problem (or it was probably a coincidence).

Thankfully the network latency subsided before the final stretch so the event’s last half-hour was quite nice.

In addition, the event was a bit tedious, and the culling/rendering issues were in full swing here.

HOWEVER, I can tell this was intended to be a difficult fight. People who kept getting near the Ancient karka and then complaining about dying were completely foolish. People often just laid around without waypoint ressing too (though as I said I did encounter an issue with waypoint ressing). The problem is this event left lots of excuses in which players could scapegoat their own inadequacies to issues with the game itself.

Sure there are some legitimate concerns, and I think there needs to be a lot of work done on culling and ways to prevent massive lag spikes in the future (which is probably related to their ISP backbone and not the servers being unable to handle the event).

I look forward to the next event. Thank you ArenaNet.

Everything has been said i guess about the event itself. Giving Precusors for a one time Event is such a bad decision i cannot find the right words without beeing rude. Such a slap in the face for the casual player, esp. in europe, who couldnt finish or even play the event at all. Giving out 200g as a reward for an one time event is just -.- !

It happened tho, and it cant be undone. Everyone who missed the event, crashed and couldnt loot or simply had bad luck with looting wont be rewarded afterwards, because its probably not possible to determine the ppl who where affected by those things.

At the end of the day, the Event caused ANet tons and tons of trouble and they will hopefully learn from this. We, the players, should also remind ourselfs that those updates are free of charge and also brought alot of permanent content which is pretty good.

Been getting up at 3am (Perth WA) every day for the last three days to participate in the Lost Shores events. Despite the lag and bugs of the previous 2 days I kept up a positive outlook that the final event would make it all worthwhile.

During the final stages of todays event got dc’d to the character screen then dumped to an overflow server where the event was already finished causing me to miss out on the epic chest.

Entire episode has left a seriously bad taste in my mouth!

I really love the idea of monthly one-time events! Understandably the most frustrating thing about it though is that people can’t always be on during these times. If the event could somehow “restart” itself during certain times of the day (maybe spread out between every 5 hours or so) with a posted up schedule of times, that would definitely help. If you want to limit people’s drops so they can’t get multiples – block them off from re-opening the chest again.

I feel like it’s really immature how people are threatening to leave a game because things didn’t go their way. I like the company to be experimenting with new ideas! Hopefully from this event ANet will have learned much more about their playerbase and how to avoid bad bugs. Best of luck in the next event!

Lost Shore Event. (Now that I am less angry I will most likely respond in a professional manner hopefully)

1/10
I gave it a 1 because I enjoyed the jump puzzle that gave me entertainment for like 25 minutes.

Positive Things.
~ The Stepping Stones jump puzzle was enjoyable.

Negative Things.
~ One-time event chains lead to a surge of players logging on to complete it so it caused a lot of lag and random disconnects. Also you have people in other time zones that cannot make it to the events so one-time events should not even exist considering your player base.
~ Buggy events should not be released. If you know about it don’t release it. People are happy to get content if it is functional for the most part and has small bugs that don’t affect the main game play. Could not continue due to Noll being bugged.
~ Falling short on loot items. I was fortunate enough to get a chest at the end of the event after disconnecting from my first overflow. But I got things I couldn’t use because I wear medium armor. I got light exotics and heavy rares and I am a Thief. A couple of gold made but it wasn’t really worth all the effort going through that event for that amount.
~ Overflow priorities for events. Give people a chance to reconnect to their overflow that they were in like a 5 to 10 min window to reconnect to it. If this was already in place you would have less angry/frustrated people for the event. I disconnected when I was finishing the event and reconnected into a different overflow. Lucky that I had guild members in a different overflow and joined on them to finish their chain in time to receive the chest.

Overall the company as a whole needs to step up for the next major event because it seems like the majority of the player base has negative experiences with them and might avoid the next one. I know that I am not going to plan my weekend around the next event for sure until I get a confirmation that it is properly working from people who has already done them.

You see the PROBLEM!!! in this freaking Lost Shores event is the server managers didn’t make a right assumption to begin with.

They KNOW this is ONE TIME event, meaning what? there will be at LEAST 50 people in one spot => heavy lag.

So? maybe Anet should split the group into different overflow server. Maybe they shouldn’t make the boss so overpowered that it require 50 people.

Common guys, common sense here. I mean i got my reward and have fun fighting watching people get owned, but i just feel sorry for those on laptop or bad PC.

I stayed up until 7am one morning reading all of the feedback about Lost Shores. Hundreds of comments, mostly negative, on more than 200 pages. And you expect us to believe they magically disappeared? Others may believe it – however, I am not so easily convinced. How shameful and transparent.

Reposted from the feedback thread, because I doubt it was read and digested before it was “accidentally” deleted (/eyeroll – a history of gestapo behaviour makes me question all accidents).

Normally, I’d just be content with just happily playing the game, but this really f’ing pissed me off…
I spent 2+ hours working on Phase3, pushing the AK back into its hole (sidenote: whoever thought those reinforcement events were a good idea, please stick a pineapple where the sun don’t shine), only to get disconnected just as we were destroying the webbing on the explosives. “Okay; fine; whatever,” I think, assuming when I log back in, it’ll stick me in the same overflow server and I’ll be able to continue on.
Nope. It sticks me in a different overflow server that had already completed the event, with no way to get back to the one I was playing on. F’ing great.

So I spent 2 long hours working on a one-time event with the promise of “phat lewtz” at the end, yet through no fault of my own I am denied those very rewards? GG. Needless to say, I’m livid.
If I knew it was going to be such a massive waste of time, I’d have rather spent that time doing something more productive… like masturbating…

Anet, you guys better make good on this, else you’re never getting another dime from me. Ever.

And even now, a few hours after the event’s conclusion, I still don’t feel any different. Trust, I’d like to continue supporting ArenaNet, but anything less than a formal apology and promise of recompense would befoul that support, as it’s indicative of a much larger problem, imho…

My feedback is that I lost out on the rewards for three hours worth of work because you can’t seem to (1) create geometry that doesn’t get players stuck; and (2) manage to reconnect people back to the correct overflow system.

I don’t mind wasting my time for entertainment. But this was far from entertaining.

I totally agree i have had former guild members from Rift and WoW asking if i would come back the way Anet is going, i will either be taking them up on the offer or waiting for the promising FF14 re-release.

Its all well and good having no monthly fees HOWEVER when you get crap like this – bugged content, bugged updates, awful servers THESE are the kind of things that would make me GLADLY pay a monthly fee to get rid of.

Well apparently the other thread was deleted so I suppose I will reply again.

Just so you know I did not get to play phase 1 or phase 2. I only logged in today and I played the finale. So here is my 2 cents on the subject.

At first I was intrigued as to what exactly was going on right up until the event started. Throughout the event I couldn’t help but feel like I was back in the beta weekend finale where we all just skill spammed and lagged out while attacking the ridiculous champion black moas, etc.

Granted, this finale was a bit less laggy than the beta finale event was, but the feel of the event was the same. It was boring to put it simply. I really didn’t get any enjoyment out of spamming skills one after another at targets which were not even visible at times. And then when one target was down, rinse and repeat.

I don’t know what can be done to fix that honestly. Perhaps I’ve just come to the point where I have outgrown any fascination of hitting one or 2 buttons over and over for hours and not even be able to see what exactly I am hitting. Or have any sense of accomplishment when I know the next enemy is exactly the same as the first one and I will keep spamming the same thing to take it down as well.

There was a reward at the end of this event to be sure. However, there were only two things my character could use out of those rewards. Those two items were the shell and the 20 slot box which I think everyone who could open the chest obtained anyway. The other items, even though a couple were exotic and a couple were rare, could not be used by my profession and will go up on the trade post. So do I think the reward was worth it? Not really. I wasn’t expecting the very best items, but I would have liked to have something specific to my character’s profession to be honest.

I think I am more disappointed in the event itself though rather than the loot. It was just really boring.

I’m sure there are those who loved it and I’m happy for them. Perhaps they weren’t around for the beta, perhaps they were. But it just seems like its just more of the same skill spam just against another enemy with a different name and a different skin.

I think these type of Events would be more enjoyable for myself if there was actually a coop element to them other than endless skill spam against an opponent with a billion hp. Perhaps some mechanisms in place where the groups need to split and complete two or more tasks at once or whatever in order to advance the event. I don’t know, I’m just thinking out loud.

Again, I was only here for the finale. I did not see phase 1 or phase 2, but judging by the finale I’m not sure I missed much.

It is probably for the best that this was a “one time” only event. However, I am concerned about future events and whether or not they will be the same sort of skill spamming, monotonous play events as this was.

Overall, I was pretty pleased with Lost Shores, but I had some things that irritated me.

Lost Shores Event: Day 1 was a mess. Period. Time limited quests like the scavenger hunt are a bad, bad idea while things are still so buggy. Please spend more time looking at your fundamentals… scalability, server capacity, event scripting… etc… to try to find whatever is causing so many events and quests to bug. Lag was terrible.

Day 2… eh, I was pretty annoyed after Day 1. But I love the new island and found the event chains challenging.

Day 3, I had a blast. The lack of mob loot drops was really annoying and there was some lag that should be looked at (as well as other players disconnecting). But the event itself was fun. However, the reinforcement stages were pretty rough and not fun. The other parts (using boulders, vents, rock slides, etc.) were great. The chest was good and rewarding. I actually got my first exotics, so yay.

Fractals of the Mists: Love it, although I haven’t had a chance to do much. Great fun and a great idea.

Ascended Weapons: Cautiously optimistic, but tread carefully. I love this game BECAUSE it’s easy to get the best gear in the game. I want to get my max gear then go do stuff. I don’t want to be eternally chasing better gear and falling behind only to get roflstomped in WvW.

sPvP: New map looks fun, although I haven’t tried it. Really want some more quality of life fixes here.

Overall…. 6/10.

If I could make one suggestion: do Wintersday and put new content on hold long enough to go back to basics. Surge on bug fixing and address the core problems here, whatever they are. Right now you’re in reactive mode, trying to fix things as they break. I know things are probably working fine in testing, but breaking when you throw thousands at it.

I believe in Anet. I still do. I’m a little more skeptical saying that now, but I do. Now go forth and kick kitten.

My feedback?
It’s selfish to expect those who live outside of the continental US to adhere to your times. If you are going to sell this game globally, and KNOWING that your game is being bought in different countries, you should plan events accordingly to include your customers, who ultimately are the backbone of this game/company. Without the customers this game wouldn’t be able to continue.
The whole event was a complete waste of time and I wish I hadn’t participated in any of it and spent my weekend doing something else, besides sitting next to Noll for 5 hours in the hope that a dev would come and fix the issue.
As for attempting to participate in the final boss event, psht. It finished on a Monday here, which I am sure A-Net took into consideration when they decided to post their 3 day bug-fest.

While I do thank them for the dungeon as that seems to be the only thing that actually works as it is intended to, the rest of the event seemed very unfair to those who live outside of America and have things like jobs.

Network lag and frame-rate are not related. I’m surprised at how many people are unable to make this distinction. Because of this, I found it difficult to find out just how many people around me were suffering from network issues. I’m certain there were some, but not all of them as severe… and like I said, returning to the waypoint and running back seemed to magically solve the issue OR it was fixed around that time.

I loved the rewards! The battle was a bloodbath, our team wiped several times, I had most of my armor damaged, so I finished the quest chain with my armor removed to offset the high repair bill. I did not get one drop from those monsters, but the chest was worth it. People stayed on the ground to wait for a rez because it was simply too far to travel to re-join group. I almost quit a couple of times, especially near the end because of the one hit kills and the sucky drops, but I am glad that I stayed with it.

THIS! So I’m not the only one really, really disappointed and almost offended by the sheer lack of communication from ArenaNet. And yes, I too am waiting for an official, formal statement + apology.

I will be the first to admit – I will not be leaving for any other game. I have drooled, and campaigned for GW2 for five years. I will not be going anywhere. But the fact of the matter is, is that I was disappointed in Anet’s behavior regarding this event in the first place. Now I am just sad, embarrassed, and can’t help but feeling a sense of shame.

How convenient. The one thread that has had unprecedented negative feedback, even by Anet fanboys has been “lost to the ether.” Insult to injury.

I feel totally and utterly betrayed by Anet over this event. I live in Australia and I have a full time job. I managed to log on at 6am for the event and could only play for an hour before having to go to work.

All we did for a full hour was wander around getting totally flattened by that rolling attack – which due to the lag couldn’t be dodged and even with NO lag, couldn’t be dodged because the hit box was bigger than the mob. Either that or have the thing bug out and regain its health on reaching zero.

Seems that, from the disconnects and the lag issues, I got off lightly by signing out to go to work. But now that I read this, to find out that the end chest after the Ancient Karka had precursors in it – after spending hours and hours being borked over by the randomness of the mystic forge trying to get one because the bow is 500g on the TP – just makes me want to cry with dispair.

I think I’m almost done with this game. Even after 7 years of Guild Wars 1.

Please guys, you need to reconsider the timing of events or at least make them instanced – and therefore repeatable by latecomers. You need to make sure that the scripting/programming is not able to be broken so easily and so often. More in game information is needed – we’re not all cryptologists who enjoy blindly stabbing in the dark.

Just please, PLEASE, get it right for Wintersday.

I will just chip in with a few comments. I’m certain I’m not the first to make them.

I appreciate the scope and difficulty you aimed for, and I think the reward level was at a good point for the event. The event had highs and lows (reinforcement waves very low), but some interesting elements (steam vents).

That being said you must find a solution for the draw distance of mobs and players in events like this. Too often huge swathes of players would get killed by “invisible” champions.

We need to be able to see stuff around us beyond a 600-900 unit radius consistently. If that aspect of the event were smoother, I suspect a lot more people would enjoy it.

NSP Why bother?….

I liked the last phase of the event. There wasn’t much In the way of lag for me. The only issue you I had was the reinforcement phases seemed to take way to long and the culling issues resulted in lots of people dying before mobs even appeared.

Good ideas, poor execution.

Bugs, bugs, bugs. What’s worse is that not only the one time event being bugged in various parts, but that the patch also bugged out some existing content.

For the final event, I ended up leaving halfway through. Even hearing about the great rewards, I don’t regret it. It was the least amount of fun I’ve had in GW2 since the game started. The mechanics weren’t fun or interesting, it was throwing high damage, high health enemies at you over and over. It was tedious and slow.

Overall, didn’t like it.

Well I suppose I’ll just be repeating a lot of what other people have been saying, but here goes.

As for the day one event, I was too late and missed it, which is fine, though later I tried to do the scavenger hunt, which suffered from the NPC’s not being there, so I didn’t get to do that. I meant to do it on day two, but apparently it still wasn’t fixed by then, so…

I did the day two event, which was pretty cool. Though it got off to a rocky start, it took a while for the event to actually start, lots of waiting around doing nothing.

And then the day three event. Whoof.

All in all, the event was pretty cool. The location was great, and some of the parts of it was really neat (I particularly enjoyed stuffing the vents with boulders).

But it suffered from a few very large drawbacks.

Too many people. Perhaps these kinds of events should be instanced zones (kind of like the clocktower) with some 50 or so people in them, rather than the massless blob that would disappear and appear on a whim, this also made it extremely difficult to find and target enemies, actually get credit for hitting enemies (at no point did I get experience for killing an enemy), and not die due to rolling invisible karka.

Related to the too many people problem is the huge amounts of HP. I like a strong opponent as much as the next person, but in particular, during those reinforcement phases it was just a mindless boring clicking. I didn’t feel that I had any effect at all, and I could hardly see HP bars go down. It was entirely unrewarding and extremely tedious.

Lack of enemy variation. All throughout the event, you’re fighting Karka (not that you could see them anyways), and as a result, you were effectively doing the same thing over and over and over again (further made more tedious by the extremely high HP of the individual Karka).

All in all, there were way too many people that were all forced to sit in one place auto-attacking HP bars for an hour or more.

And I’m a little dissappointed that I won’t be able to do the scavenger hunt stuff since I do enjoy that kind of thing. One time events are a bit of a shame really.

At first, I was a bit frustrated with how the event started. The lag made playing the first part almost impossible. Though this was greatly improved with the patch.
For the first two events I thought they fell a bit short of my expectations. Maybe this was because you guys built it up, maybe I built it up too much in my own head. Who knows.
That being said, I enjoyed this whole event. Yeah, it had some bugs and such, but seriously, the game has been live only since August and you’ve kicked out two events in a short time. I’m still enjoying the game immensely.
Really enjoyed the frustration of fighting these new creatures, offered a new challenge. The new dungeon is also really well done. I’ve haven’t tried all the fractals yet, and while I do find a few of them (the swamp in particular) mind-numbingly frustrating, it was designed to be that way. To be a challenge to get the group to work as a team instead of mindlessly hacking and slashing their way through.
And the final event? At first I thought it was a bit too long, though I did go straight to the event right after FotM, so that was my fault. Felt a bit slow, but it picked up pace with all the ways to drive the Ancient Karka back to the nesting ground. And seriously, the way to kill it? Awesome!
I did wonder, during the long battle(s), with the boss if this final event would be worth it. Then lo and behold a giant chest with several items nothing less than a rare. Granted, not many useful items for my character, but stuff I can save for other characters, or sell (probably save).
My biggest complaint would be the Consortium chests. When you guys said the gem store would be full of new items, that’s what I thought. New items. Not a chest that would be a gamble for said items. If I could pick what I wanted, I’d spend the gems on them, but I don’t like to gamble. That’s why I will never buy black lion keys. I did, however, go against my better judgment and purchase 1 chest. After opening I immediately regretted it. Some crafting material and a shoulder skin that 1) I could not use for my main character 2) didn’t look all that great. So, yeah, the chest was a very big disappointment.
Yeah, there were some issues, but I had a blast regardless. So, I give this event a 7/10. Could have been a bit better, but still pretty good.

‘Disappointment’ and ‘irritation’ are the right words. I feel disappointed because servers obviously weren’t ready for such a load and the event was a bit boring due to prolonged phases. Irritated because I got nothing after a 2+ hours lagged gameplay as i got disconnected. I think an official statement from anet would be suitable.

GOOD

  • Environment art / World design for Southsun Cove, beautiful zone with some really amazing looking locations.
  • Stepping stones jumping puzzle
  • Event phase 3: Ancient Karka – Using environment as a weapon was quite a nice touch and things like that are something I would really love to see more of.
  • Event phase 3: Final encounter, from pursuing the Ancient Karka through the hive to the last fight at the bottom.
  • Event phase 3: End rewards, I really liked that there was a 20 slot bag as a guaranteed reward along with the earring. As this ensured that you got something to remember the event by, even if you had some bad luck with the RNG regarding other drops.

BAD

  • Despite being advertised as a smaller/medium sized map, Southsun Cove still feels relatively void of any interesting activities.
  • Event phase 1 and server lag: The phase 1 event at Lion’s Arch on friday evening was completely unplayable due to the server lag. Shortly after the event started, a huge ability delay kicked in and by the end of the event it was at the point where my character was firing up abilities from 1 to 2 minutes ago.
  • Event phase 2: As a whole the phase 2 event that occured on saturday felt like a gigantic waste of time. After showing up on time for the event many of us spent the next roughly 30 minutes watching the engineers build up the siege weapon, only to have the following action part of the event end in less than 5 minutes. Not only this was disapointing, but it wasn’t fun at all and it certainly didn’t feel like “Retaking Lion’s Arch”.
  • Event phase 3: Mob culling / rendering issues: This was probably the biggest issue for me during the phase 3 of the event. Whenever you had a massive amount of players and mobs in a small area, the player character rendered up but the mobs didn’t. Which was certainly a problem during the bomb arming phase and the reinforcement phases, as I often ended up having to wait quite a while to even see what I am fighting and more importantly where the mob I am fighting is.
  • Event phase 3: Ancient Karka – Reinforcement phases, too much is too much – the amount of karka mobs made these phases feel incredibly dragged on and boring.

Overall though I liked the event, however I felt that there were things that could have certainly been handled better.

ArenaNet, here are my thoughts:

I didnt get to partake in the full event due to real life, so I only got to partake in phase 3. I loved it! There was a ton of lag and I got disconnected, but overall, great event. I love the lore and love the story. It was really cool to take over the island and build outposts, seige engines, and drive the Karka back. The lag issues could be worked on, but overall, great event!

Thank you for your time and dedication to making this game fun.

The hype of The Lost Shore was evident throughout the week, being that it was a one time event; I assumed however that this meant the event was planned to go throughout the day similar to that of Halloween when MK was in Lion’s Arch, it only seemed logical since I couldn’t imagine them having an event literally once for thousands of people, around the globe, to cramp into a few servers and overflow – not to mention the amount of lag/issues that would cause. Alas my initial assumption was proven wrong.

I logged onto my account today to find I’ve missed the event by an hour, and because of that I’ve missed my chance to experience something really unique and to obtain some valuable loot; I made my way to the forums to discover others who were online at the time were unlucky as well. Wither they got d/c, couldn’t log back in after d/c, logging into a different overflow after d/c, or just literally having the Chest despawn infront of your eyes because you were too busy rezing others.

I can already assert some of you who’ve been bless with the chance to loot will reply with something trivial and usless like “hurrr it’s your fault for not booking time off werk” or “that’s life buddy too bad” or even “I miss the phase 1 & 2, you don’t see me complaining” (give me a kittening break)

Well first off, not everyone can afford book time off work or skip school but even so many of you seem to be avoiding to discuss of the ones who got d/c or literally had the reward despawn in front of them. And let’s face it, the experience was unique and all but I’m sure players are more interested in the rewards and would appreciate to yield something for their time. if you think otherwise then go ahead and trash your 20slot bag and newly obtain Precursors

A simple solution or even a method of approach should of been to make the event shorter than 2hrs and make it repeat multiple times for one day. Perhaps then maybe people with work or school could have a chance to enjoy it too once they finish their business? Perhaps this approach would too spread out the lag? Give the participants a chance to obtain their reward wither due to despawn, without the intervention of GMs?

Got to say I found it all extremely disappointing, through the entire weekend I’ve barely felt like I was taking part in any events due to the bad lag but during the big 3 hour chain tonight it made it unplayable. The lag was so bad at points that I was dead on the floor for over 2 minutes for guildies on mumble but on my screen i was still running around (though unable to attack as skills took over 30 seconds to activate).

I would really like to thank you for making this event. There were some lag and disconnect issues which you should work on. But now there is a lot raging on the forums that they missed it. But please don’t get discouraged by that. I really liked the point of unique one time events!

You announced it was a one time event and it should stay that way. Like in real life. If you miss it to bad. For example you can miss a party next door because you gotta work. But then again you always have a choice. You may just miss the party of your life and regret skipping work… i guess that’s how many people feel now. They missed something big (and i mean the rewards of course).

But for me and many other people i can truly say, that i have been part of something really unique. And because not everyone could participate made it unique. And that’s exactly the point!

So thank you for the event, the rewards and the privilege to brag in front of people who weren’t there

Since my previous feedback was “lost to the ether”.. ahem, I’ll post again and hope that someone doesn’t forget the “glitch in our forum software” and accidentally merge this one.

To put it succinctly, this weekend’s events were simply confusing, glitchy, disorganized, and all around disappointing. Couldn’t be present for noon PST events for scheduling reasons, could not complete phase 1 due to bugs, and missed the phase 2 entirely while I sat in an overflow queue waiting 40+ minutes and finally logging out. Tried logging in again later only to find the login servers unreachable. At that point, I was so disappointed I just gave up. I didn’t bother to attend today’s event and I’m glad I didn’t after getting to read the feedback that so mysteriously vanished.

If you wanted to make sure no one bought GW2 for Christmas, I think you have succeeded. I know I would certainly have a very bad taste in my mouth right now if I was a new player. As someone who prepurchased the night GW2 went on sale, the hype was exactly that, hype. You guys took a lot of time building GW2 and some parts are a piece of art. Other parts are a piece of something else. This weekend felt like the BWE all over again, only worse. The worst part of it all, you rolled out this new content and had this gigantic failvent when there are still serious bugs that need fixing. For now, I’ll wait and see if the previous feeback thread reappears and if Anet decides to have a do-over or at least acknowledge it’s failure to deliver a playable game.

Otherwise, I’m seriously considering just ditching GW2 altogether. Don’t suppose I can have the $100 I spent on GW2 (Digi-Deluxe+Gems) credited to my GW1 account? At least there, the events are fun and the game is stable.

Somehow I think I will be returning back to crappy graphics of WoW.
I’d rather deal with crap graphics but good planning and execution on world events, than good graphics but being unable to even participate. -.-

The only way I can see Anet doing such a large event again is by having different start times for different Worlds which each server hosts, to spread the load on the servers.

Of course, these times may not suit everyone, so each event would have to be repeated, probably, with a log on the character file that those who had already participated did not get reward other than the kill bonuses.

My opinions on the whole patch:
The good:

  • The dungeon is, in overall, awesome. Aside for the incredibly boring jellyfish fight, all mechanics are fun and feel unique. I’m hoping future dungeons get handled similarly, with some randomization of events too, instead of the same thing at every run.
  • The new area feels a lot more like an endgame area. It’s unforgiving, with powerful monsters, where you either get a good group or pick up your fights very well. The events are lacking, but I’m assuming more events will come once the event officially ends and the scaling stops (if that happens).
  • The final event was really good, and actually challenging. Seeing dozens of people drop in one hit may be cheap to some, but it adds a sense of danger and makes you pay attention to the surroundings.

The bad:

  • Ascended items. Yeah, it has been discussed over and over, but they really seem a pointless addition that enforces grind, be it for mats or for higher levels in the dungeon (not everyone likes doing dungeons, and they shouldn’t be forced to do it to stay even at wvw). Plus, the way we’re forced to have it to protect from a condition specific to it that is in no way avoidable with player skill just makes it a cheap addition.
  • The event dragged on too much during the reinforcement parts. Take these out or cut them to 1/5th of what they where and the event quality would increase a lot.
  • The rewards for the final event were too good. One-time events shouldn’t be profitable, but memorable. Something like an account bound unique skin, like the halloween books, would be a lot better. Just giving good tradeable items will make everyone who couldn’t take part feel cheated, and the next events to be filled with people just thinking on how much money they’ll get on the end.
  • The lag. Insert any of the many posts about lag here. But what caught my eye most is how the player/server connection seems to handle bottlenecks: Everything around me has higher priority than me on my connection. Shouldn’t it be the opposite? Like, if I have a bad connection, it will cheap out on my surroundings making my allies and their attacks not load or my enemies suddenly teleport, instead of me being able to see everyone run towards the boss like nothing has happened while I get my actions delayed by 10 minutes?
