What could Scarlet possibly know about Caithe that even Faolain wouldn’t?
Don’t know.

nah just joking but yeah you got a point there.
everything feels unfinished.

lol
i mean usually…if you look at this as if it is a book telling a story, each content update is a chapter
usually the author will give you reasons of what is happening in the chapter in the same exact chapter so you know what the kitten is going on….maybe saving a twist later down the road
but to have a twist, you need to already think something happened a certain way….and then to find out it actually a happened a different way
we have no idea what is going on, so there are no chances for twists later down the line

coming to a forum near you…..Gem Wars 2!
Ellen Kiel wins the election, now what?
WE DON’T KNOW!
Why did Tequatl get stronger even though Zhaitan is dead?
WE DON’T KNOW!
What is Scarlet’s motive for going bat kitten crazy?
WE DON’T KNOW!
And this sums up ‘The Living Story’ plotline.

This is probably the most important thing certain game developers seem to be missing.
“Mystery” requires a plot. A plot where you don’t know everything, but a plot none the less. Right now the only mystery is “what the kitten is the plot?”
and we already done the old living stories
now imagen a new player…….

I just always assume the plot is to kill/enslave us all.

faolain never thought to check whether caithe was an inny or an outie

ArenaNet has acknowledged that their story is poorly communicated. They wish to fix this and are trying by implementing new methods to disseminate information to layers. Traditional style quests exist in the game but as with other games, unless you shove the info down people’s throats, the details get lost. Here is hoping that what they have in mind will pull more players into the living story and show them the oddity and glamour of tyria.
My moves are fresh, like my groceries.

Fixed for you. Apologies, it’s just more fitting.
Yeah, and sadly, more accurate too.
Agree with you guys, but its a new way to give “expansions and new content” in mmorpgs, they are still learning the right way to do it… lets hope it will get better with time.
Whine Wars 2.
Don’t forget your Daily Sobs and Monthly Weeps for Tears! With 250 Tears you’ll get the legendary Refund! Also remember that with higher Dirt Find, you can do Critical Wails! That’ll show them!
Living Grumble ftw!

So far it’s been few hits with a lot of misses. They’ve had a while to figure it out, and so far I’m left with barely any hope it’ll get better.

Tsk tsk tsk. You’ve clearly not thought this through. You get a chance for a legendary refund if you combine your tears with sorrow bubbles, cheap wine (not cheap, just a name) and a rune of remorse at the Mythical Mountain of Mourn.
Sorry, fountain, not mountain.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
Hi-Larry-Us
Some good stuff here. I especially liked the “runes of remorse”. They would go great with the sigils of shame.
Seriously though, they need to be able to communicate a better story to each player. The new dugeon path seems to have cut scenes that are more descriptive. Hopefully the living story goes that route via an email with a “video message” summarizing the new content. Currently the only way to get some info is from Dulfy and the ocassional Guild Wars news thread Ex.) “Scarlet story”.
It is sad but, most of the time I find myself needing to go to Dulfy to figure what what I need to do, where I need to go, what each achievement is…etc. This should not be necessary if implemented properly. How can they fix this? Here is a start: If I mouse over an achievement, it should give me a better description of what I need to do to accomplish it. If Dulfy was not around there would be 100% more complaining on the forums about the Living story content. It is a great site, but I feel that if the Living story content were actually done correctly, Dulfy would only need to be used as a last resort… for instance, only if you are stuck with one part of an achievment or story.

Better yet, what effect did the following have on players and/or living world?
- Ellen Kiel wins the election
- Why did Tequatl get stronger even though Zhaitan is dead?
- What is Scarlet’s motive?
WE DON’T KNOW or do we even care, it’s just another 2 week event!
Another reason why the game needs new longer deeper content!
I think speculating about what’s coming up next is one of the reasons why GW2 is a good game.
Characters: Ester Daemond – 80 – Thief
Lyssa Daemond – 50 – Elementalist
Yea, overall the story has been pretty tough to follow. I kinda sorta get the gist of it, but that’s only after someone else attempted to kinda sorta give me the gist of it. The fact that this is my way of gaining information on the LS is probably a bad thing.
I look forward to increased communication.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
There are quite a few mysteries in GW1 too.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/lwd/Living-World-1-year-later-a-sincere-opinion
I mean, for a sequel, you would think that these things would be resolved but nope. One year in and boom, we get even more unanswered questions.
@Callum Walker – yeah, but it gets tiresome after a while. It makes me loose hope for this game.
Maybe it will make sense and everything will be solved when we meet Mr. E… wait, never mind, that’s contradicting.
I think speculating about what’s coming up next is one of the reasons why GW2 is a good game.
yea…you can speculate what the next release…but more often than not ur wrong because you dont know what has happened in the past…..and when the content is out, you dont even know if ur right because you dont know what is going on
I just always assume the plot is to kill/enslave us all.

tbh after 800+ hours of the game I really don’t care anymore, I just want my achievements (if they are not the kittened “do something 200 times” ones) and the occasional cool looking skin

And ArenaNet’s response:
“We have a story. We’re going to tell you it. Someday.”
And someday never comes.
P.S.: You forgot:
- What will Evon do after losing the election?
- Why is Ash Legion interested in controlling Lion’s Arch economy?
- What’s with the tentacles and Sclerite stuff from the last Southsun content?
- What’re the Zephyrites up to doing with Glint’s corpse? (Addendum: What happened to Glint’s ‘children’)
- Did the Zephyrites even enter trade agreement with Lion’s Arch when Kiel won the election?
- Where did Canach get the Fervid Censer and what’s with the yellow pollen/fungus-like plants he spread?
- Why are the Seraph Honor Guard so terrible at their job, not acknowledging Scarlet or the fact that the Queen’s Jubilee ended (those poor guards, eternally waiting for their diplomat escorts…)?
- Will Logan ever put on some pants and get it on with Jennah?
- Just what the hell does it take to get into Rytlock’s warband?
- Will Braham and Eir ever make up?
And that’s ignoring the non-Living Story stuff!
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I believe what this refers to recapping the Living Story that has already happened, and doesn’t refer to other major problems with their Living Story. The other problems as I see it are that they are taking forever to develop plot lines. To use their analogy, instead of getting a new episode to our favorite T.V. show every week, we are getting a trailer to our favorite T.V. show every other week (if that). Another problem is that they aren’t taking their time with releases, and it shows; as they communicate important story details through external short stories and interviews instead of in game.
Ellen Kiel wins the election
When FotM comes out with the new fractals they are going to say we permanently impacted Tyria… which is true. A large number of players chose Ellen and that leads to the fractal. A large number didn’t and they didn’t impact Tyria at all.
The way they went about it, it’s not much different from a poll on the website. They said they had two fractal ideas and presented them to players. The story doesn’t actually care which candidate represents which fractal – Ellen isn’t an asura or Priory member trying to figure out some Thaumanova mystery and Evon isn’t interested in Abbadon. The story itself didn’t care about the candidate and their respective fractal, it was just a transparent poll pushed into the game with a bunch of unnecessary baggage (WP costs, reduced keys, black and white characterisations).
Southsun gave players a way to impact the world twice and neither time was it a choice. Players helped first colonise the island and take out the threat and then players later returned to clear up the contracts issue and reinforce the colonies. It’s just a shame the story delivery was so weak.

while it is true who won the election may not be so vital to the story….the reason the election for a trade agreement with the zephyrites is vital to the story….yet we don’t have the slightest idea why

While you’re right that the election poll was little different than a poll on the website, you’re wrong on the candidate’s relation to their fractal.
Evon was hinted – though not in game, so this is a fail point to ArenaNet – to be interested in Abaddon for religious reasons.
Ellen Kiel stated that she was going to investigate the cause of the explosion, and in Aetherblade Retreat, she does say she hates Inquest – though she never met them previously.
So the characters do have some plot interests/relations to their respective fractal. It just wasn’t highlighted outright.

I can tell you right now it’s just an excuse for them to come back every year as part of the Bazaar. Remember the Bazaar was already shadowed as a (secret) yearly event in a different place every year, but no one had even seen enough of the Zephir Sanctum to believe it was real.
Next year it comes back with the Bazaar because it made a trade agreement with LA…
Even though the whole thing seemed to hint at the Bazaar being a black market of sorts, hiding from the official governments, nobody seemed to care.
Expecting the next Living Story to be coherent and well developed is like Charlie Brown expecting Lucy to hold the the football.
Living Story / LORE would be good if they make ingame cinematics like at the Jubilee, one that drives up the situation, and one witch closing/keeping it.
And the another one: These should some meaning, not just a meaningless zergzerg
“A man chooses; a slave obeys.” | “Want HardMode? Play Ranger!”
Dang Anet, you need to fill in those gaps of information!

WE DON’T KNOW!
You didn’t read Scarlet’s short story on the website I presume.
But yes, ANet does need a more coherent story, and needs to tie in each chapter together in a better way..

Shouldn’t have to read someone’s story on the website, should be better implemented in the game.
For example i get the gist of Destiny’s Edge, who all those characters are, and why their guild fell apart and then got back together.
All I know about Scarlet (and care to know at this point) is that she’s a Sylvari and she goes lol!

oh no i read it…how she went into the mists and saw the future of the pale tree being wrapped in thorns, and she wanted to live on her own and not under the influence of the pale tree or nightmare court or Ventari’s Tablet
but Anet has never said, nor has Scarlet said “She wants to destroy them both”, we have had to assume that this is her motive and if her motive is wanting to destroy the Pale Tree and Nightmare court….wtf was she doing breaking up a human event? Other than putting her on our radar to stop her eventually….does she want us to stop her?
“That’s right kids, tune in next, er in two weeks for the next episode of As Tyria Revolves, titled “Scary Ghosts’. Featuring that crazy human King Thorn and his family of miscreants!”
My optimistic side is hoping that LS will turn out to be many stories like in the movie Pulp Fiction, combined w/an installment delivery system like the serials that ran in the movie theaters in the 1940’s.
My pessimistic side sees that they put in mini-game/festival filler to pad the lack of real content like cohesive story-telling, w/real plots and characters that the masses care about.
Only time will tell.
Why would the dredge and flame legion ever become allies? (part 2: why would they follow a steampunk salad?)
what’s the deal with Braham’s girlfriend?
What happened to Canach?
What’s the Consortium up to now?
Why did Logan hire a Mae West impersonator to investigate something in Lion’s Arch?
What happened to Mai Trin?
How’s that trade contract that Kiel secured doing?
What was the point of that cutscene you got after doing what the genie in the SAB told you to do?
How the hell did Scarlet/the Aetherblades get their grubby paws on airships and other pact tech?
Where do their resources and personnel even come from? Where have they been hiding all of this time?
The most painful thing for me is that we rarely see any finished story.
For now I see like 2:
- Dragon bash, cause we caught an enemy and jailed her.
- election, cause some came from that.
What else?
Nothing is known and nothing comes from i really.
The wost for me is enigma character – Scarlet.
It’s like jack-of-all trades. Whatever happens we can dump on her, cause she is so chaotic that see can do anything.
What about dragons?
- we don’t know, Dragons don’t care about the power that killed one of them…
What about dragon’s connection to human gods?
- we know almost nothing, except that there is one
What about other maps/continents?
- we are too busy siting on out b*ts to care
What about mighty orders?
- they also sit and do nothing
What about any started stories that were just dropped off?
- we will probably never get any info about it or it will be like Molten Alliance – after few months we got an info that scarlet made Dredge and Flame Legion work together… Nothing about how, why etc.
I really hate Scarlet character cause Living Story dumps it all on her, cause she is fiting everywhere. I’m sick of it. PLEASE KILL HER AND MOVE ON!!!!
Ellen Kiel wins the election, now what?
WE DON’T KNOW!
It’ll probably influence a future Zephyr’s Sanctum event.
Why did Tequatl get stronger even though Zhaitan is dead?
WE DON’T KNOW!
Canonically, he’s only dead in your personal story. Living World events have virtually nothing to do with that.
What is Scarlet’s motive for going bat kitten crazy?
WE DON’T KNOW!
Nor do we need to. She’s insane and she’s trying to shatter the balance of power in Tyria. That much is obvious. More will be released about her motives gradually, as we saw with her alliances in the past few LW releases.

Not yearly. They come “when they need supplies” or to host peace treaties.
They may return in less than a year… or in more than a year. Like the SAB. It returns when ArenaNet decides to add them – y’know, when they need a break from the Scarlet Mania (expect it in February).

News flash:
She didn’t go view the Eternal Alchemy. It was all in her head.
No, I’m not joking. http://wartower.tumblr.com/post/60458277036/this-lorespecial-is-about-scarlet-briar-the-evil
And she messed up the Jubilee just because. Literally. I’m not joking here either – it was an act of a whim.

Some of those are answered – in game even. In order:
- Dredge needed magic. Flame Legion needed technology. (Part 2: cuz she offered what they needed?)
- She dumped Braham and decided to go date a merchant from Hoelbrak because the merchant has money. (In short: ArenaNet wrote her out of the story, seemingly).
- He’s in Lionguard Prison.
- Unknown but probably still trying to make profit out of their “cash cow” called Southsun (they’re idiots).
- Theo Ashford was a friend of the family, and he couldn’t/wouldn’t send an official investigation into LA matters.
- She’s still in her cage – you can still find her there last I knew.
- Good question.
- Moto tricked the gullible you into sabotaging an old krewe’s project. If you stuck around after you’d see that they discussed it was him, without naming him.
- They stole it.
- I’m calling mechanics on this. ArenaNet has had a rather big fetish with “lots of enemies” in unreasonable amount ever since Factions. It dropped a bit for Nightfall but picked up afterwards and has kept to it since.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
It’s funny, because they said future update would bring all the living story chapters together!
They did kinda explain scarlet reason for her crazy actions, least as much as they could without spoiling the ending.
They did kinda explain scarlet reason for her crazy actions, least as much as they could without spoiling the ending.
Yeah, sure…
So they made scarlet an enigma. She comes and goes when she pleases, there is no real base on what she will do.
That is the worst, cause you can put her everywhere, she will always be there and she will pop up when there will be no real reason for something, cause in her madness she can be everywhere right?
I prefer seeing heroes and enemies with real background.
When I saw Aetherblades attacking in Zephyr Sanctum it was as it should be, sky pirates attacking sky merchants. When Molten Alliance attacked Shiverpeaks and Ascalon it was OK, they lived in there. When Rox goes to DR as ambassador instead of Ritlock, it’s OK. Thats logical.
When Scarlets runs whole Tyria it’s just stupid for me…
When she poses more thread than Zaithan, an elder dragon, that is even more stupid for me.
When we are lead to conquer Scarlets bases and mess up with her plans without any base instead of fighting real game thread – Dragons, it really makes me sad.
And the worst is lore, the lack of it and some many holes.
There is this master plan and many situations that are based somewhere and there are like 2 sentences about it if any given…

I agree. They need to tie up this story so it makes some sense soon. Since first living story patch, which Scarlet apparently was behind, we have been given no greater motive or plot to follow. Its just random events here and there that feels disconnected from one another.
The TA path was cool, but doesnt say anything about whats going on. Give me some greater plot to follow then just random bits and pieces here and there! Frustrating.
Weak, disjointed storytelling is a price of a one month (and now two week) development cycle. I realize that they are attempting to emulate a longer cycle by creating separate teams, but creating different teams for ostensibly one story is just adding to the problem. The solution is to bring LS into one team and then extend the development cycle to 2-3 months. This doesn’t assure a good final product, but it does allow one to be created.
