Tidal Legion [TL] – Sea of Sorrows
(edited by Moderator)
When I was soloing the instance for the achievement I saved 7 NPCs after talking to the Magister and could not find anymore…. and I did not get the achievement. I could not have done something wrong because no NPCs died… So what is going on?
(edited by Moderator)
it is not bugged but probably really hard solo
we have done it with 5 ppl
you choose to look for survivals
place your party members where NPCs spawns
once you reached the cave and found survivors, timer starts
during that timer party members should defend spreaded NPCs while dungeon owner runs to each NPC and talks to them
speed buffs/leaps etc. helps a lot
Yeah this looks either bugged or badly designed. The problem is that after you talk to the caravan, these mobs will spawn all over the map (I believe we’re talking about 12 mobs). Where at the first try they went into a “ressurectable” state and allowed me to get them on their feet and tell them to retreat, now they just die when their health reaches zero – resulting in dead mobs.
Now this would be doable, with a group, but the way it is right now it just reminds me of Dropping Like Flies 2.0. Only with the NPCs spread out waaay further.
When the NPCs die they should just go down in the regular NPC-ready-to-be-picked-up state; not dead. That fixes this entire issue and turns it into something doable, other than the group-requiring efforts it would take now (and doing this at 6 in the morning, I can forget about that group.)

With no chance of failure (ie always being able to res them as you want) provides no real challenge though does it…. sure better instructions would help, but not all content is supposed to be soloable and requires groups to form, I mean hasn’t that been the flavour of things since the zerg debacle of season1 finally started to be corrected.
Come to think of it your toon name now becomes familiar.. you were in game yesterday complaining the sand giant wasn’t doable in the time cos of the knockbacks and fears and you can’t do enough DPS because of it, which was laughable at the very least … hmm I see a pattern emerging.
Not everyone enjoys playing the mindless Queensdale #11111 game, actually having to think tactics, gearing, traits and skills before hand makes the challenge that much more fun sometimes.. yes stability is your friend sometimes and what better way to keep it up than to get in an organised group who can share those buffs out so you don’t have to loose your DPS when you go on timers.

I’m giving this achievement another go and we’ll see how it goes – I’m still gonna point out that the first time around doing the achie run, the mobs went into a ressurectable state. They didn’t the second time around. Regardless, the state of the Sand Giant has very little to do with this achievement. Suffice to say that at later attempts I did him just fine without stability. Dodging is enough. Regardless, last time around we pulled him with ~10 minutes on the clock, and it being new content, we had few people to do it. I can only dodge for myself – there’s no way I can hold the hands of everyone else there.
Now why are we discussing Sand Giant on an achievement thread, again?

It’s not bugged guys.
Here is what you do.
Once you clear the camp, you have to rescue the NPC trapped in the cave (I have not done the 2nd choice, so I don’t know how it would work in that direction)
Anyway, once you rescue her after talking to her, that is when the NPC’s will pop up. If I recall, there are 4 places you have to go to, with a total of 7 NPC’s to rescue, 2 of the 4 places have mobs, so you have to rescue them as soon as possible.
Remember, these NPC’s only show up after you rescue the priory chick.
It is easy to solo.
Okay, yeah, just solo’d On Swift Wings and Dropping Like Flies. It’s indeed soloable – the trick is to get your rear in gear the moment you talked to the female Priory member. Just save them, kill the mobs, and be fast. If you’re quick enough to can talk to them before mobs spawn, instantly saving their hides. When you get the “[F] Order Retreat” opinion, talk to them, it’ll count.
Easier than expected.
I don’t see how people are claiming it is very difficult to do solo? At most, 8 mobs pop up, all spread out so you won’t fight them all together. The soldiers don’t die very easily, and in fact, some of them never even get attacked so you can just quickly run past the, click ‘F’, and have them evacuated if you are fast enough.
The only reason I see people might say it is difficult, is because it is very unclear when the soldiers need defending; they just pop up as soon as you talk to the caravan.
tl;dr: It is not hard to do solo, and don’t ask for achievements to be easier, otherwise they would not be achievements.
1. Clear camp.
2. Rescue Lindsay.
3. Don’t go anywhere near the final defend event-if you do, all the mobs will start attacking the countryside soliders.
4. Go solider to soldier, killing the mobs attacking them and then have the instance owner talk to the soldier.
5. All of the people you need to rescue will take NO DAMAGE until you get close to them. The mobs don’t hit them at all until you get near. Just watch where you’re going, take your time, be thorough.
6. The achievement will pop once you’ve talked to all the people you need to rescue, that way you’ll know when you’re done.

I just would like to add that something about these NPCs is indeed bugged/inconsistent.
Some of them get ressurectable once they die, some of them don’t. I experienced the NPC next to where the WP would be and one of the three NPCs at the watch tower get down unressurectable. The rest could be ressurected without any problems.
So the simple solution is to just not let them die in the first place as already suggested in this thread, contrary to what is written on dulfy.net – I guess back then when this guide was written the NPCs just didn’t bug out like that.
I did this achievement again with two friends, figuring I knew what to do and as such, it would be easy. Nothing is more true. When I got the achievement, all I had to do was rescue the 7 NPCs on the western part of the map. However, when doing this with a group, the achievement did not work – instead, it appears you have to save the NPCs on the other shore as well.
This makes little sense – do achievement parameters change when you do them with more or less people? Or did this change overnight?

Well for me its bugged… I have run it at least 5 or 6 times, each time rescuing Lindsay, then speaking to all 7 of the Vigil soldiers and getting them to retreat. Each time the buff icon is active detailing the achievement is .. achievable, but every time nothing happens then go finish the story event.. still nowt… done this solo and in alternating group instances… its borked and I wont be wasting anymore time running it till it gets sorted.
Add to that the story often bugs out after clearing Concordia as it wont progress onto to rescuing Lindsay.. imo its a mess.
I followed the dulfy guide and did the mission to the end, then backtracked to resurrect and order those survivors to retreat for the achievement. I had to try this twice because one of the NPCs died and couldn’t be resurrected, but I believe the trigger for this bug is if you attack any of the mobs en route to Lindsay – once the PC damages them, they can permanently kill NPCs they attack, even if the NPC hasn’t spawned yet.
It’s a similar observation to dulfy’s, where the guide suggests you not attack mobs engaged with the NPCs because if you fail to save them they can’t be resurrected.
that has been patched Pandaman.. latest patch disabled the ability to complete the event then go back…. but tbh I also followed the Dulfy guide and never attacked anything, got all 7 to retreat and still nothing.. otherway is to rescue Lindsay and then run round speaking to them and not attack anything.. still nothing…. some players just seem to be lucky and get it.. map chat right now is talking about it as quite a few players have run it since the latest patch and never got a sausage… its borked for sure imo and ANET need to stop wasting players time, if they aren’t properly QA’ing these metas don’t bother putting them in I say.

Oof, yeah, just checked the patch notes when I noticed there was an update, sorry to hear that :/
So glad I managed to get it before the patch, don’t really care for trying to save NPCs who die when they stub their toes too hard.
I’ve made a couple attempts at this post-patch and with a group. After proceeding far enough to get the survivors to spawn, we ran around and helped them all. Our party leader circled around the map telling them all the retreat. We circled the map multiple times and still had the “buff” showing that we were eligible, but never got the achievement…
I can’t believe we missed any. So unless there’s some other hidden restriction it feels like it’s bugged.
Bugged for me too. I just rescued all 7 people, having the buff right until the last, and didn’t receive the achievement.
Here’s hoping they fix it as quickly as they “fixed” the way of getting around their intentions.
It seems the bug occurs as soon as the instance starter triggers the lab portion.
The NPCs that you rescue die as soon as the lab is triggered. No idea why it happens.
My guildmates and I have been sweeping the map before going to the lab just to make sure no one has been missed.
This achievement is bugged… they need to fix it asap. It said i was available to get it until the last part which it automatically disappears.
If you do it with more people, there are more NPCs to rescue, I believe. You need to rescue all of them before going to the final defend event. The achievement will trigger once you’ve save them all. Some are easy to miss. With my party of 5, there was one on top of the guard tower. A little Asura was hiding so that you could barely see him.

The NPC’s are active as soon as you save Lindsay in the cave.. just run out don’t engage any mobs and speak the soldiers.. then go to the Lab and complete the event.. sounds simple and is, except the achievement is most definitely borked and has nothing to do with any NPC’s dieing as they are all still very much alive at this stage not even in downed state.
Note – For those running it in group, it does scale the amount of NPC’s so it takes longer to complete that part anyway.. cos it is still only the instance owner that can order them to retreat.. makes total sense right!
ANET needs to get this fixed or just give everyone the meta/reward then delete it from the achievement lists so no one looses out.
Well designed!
I talked to all 7 npc’s and didnt get the achievement. Isn’t it enough, that u have to do those boring storys twice?!
Still buged here.
Went in the cave, activated the caravan, went outside, talked to all the NPCs (7, doing the instance solo) they all went out with their buffs on (imune to dmg). I searched for more npcs, no one around.
I still had the achievement buff on me when I went to the asura lab, but as soon as I got there I lost it.
I went on the back of the lab, and all 7 npcs were there dead on the floor without anything that could have killed them around.
This needs a hot-fix pls.

I just tried again, several times.
2 scenarios
- no mobs appear and I can talk to the npcs while they keep their “imune to dmg” buff and they all run to the asura lab safe. When I finish 7 npcs, I cant find any other all over. When I run to the asura lab I loose the buff (the achievement) and the achievement is not awarded.
- Mobs appear around the npcs, I cant talk to them, so I have to attack the mobs. The npcs loose the “imune to dmg” buff and I loose the achievement short after that, even if the npcs survive.

I’m not sure where this “7” number is coming from. Dulfy perhaps?
Here’s what I recommend, this is how it worked for me:
Get a party of 5. Clear the main camp, talk to Lindsay. Have your party run around, killing mobs and then staying with the npcs to make sure they don’t aggro any more. Have the instance owner talk to npc. There are a lot more than 7 if you have a party of 5. One of them is hidden, high up in the brown wooden guard tower. He’s a little asura, hard to see. When you’ve TALKED to all of them, you will get the achievement. Do not go to the asura lab until you’ve got the achievement. Search the entire map, along the edges up until you get to the red out of bounds barrier on the sides. The npcs are all over and it’s a big space-really easy to miss some.

This is so kittening bugged. I’ve done this over 10 times now, I’ve tried it solo, I’ve tried it with 2 people, 4 people, and 5 people and its bugged like kitten. After the mission is completed there appears to be downed allies outside of the instance area.
Fix this or explain it better, for those who did it on first day, there was a change in the achievement that appears to have made it impossible.
You can complete it after you finish the instance. Instead of leaving go around the map and resurrect them, they appear on the map, you also must talk to them for it to count.
If you are in a party then the number scales up from seven.
I tried it like 4 times today, the first time we just didnt really get what we were supposed to do. The second time we tried to ress and then sebd all the npcs back, didn’t work. However, I noticed 2 NPC’s had died right outside the cave and didn’t have a revive icon over them (I also noticed that one of the deaths took away the achiement buff). On the third try we saved everyone (or so we thought) but when we got to the lab it turned out one NPC did die as we checked the entire map again. On the last try we rescued everyone, checked the entire map multiple times and we were 100% certain there was no NPC in any tower, behind a hill or rock or at the water and we still didn’t get credit once we went to the lab (None of the NPC’s died at any point in this run). Then when I entered the lab I noticed something odd, there was a stack of dead NPC’s outside the playable map area (at the asura portal inside the lab cave). Whether that has anything to do with it or not I don’t know, but from what I can tell it’s either definetely bugged or the way it’s meant to be done is not properly explained.

There are 7 npcs, I didn’t let any of them die, I talked to them to escort, but in the moment I activate the last defence event the icon that says I can do the achiev disapears, I even waited to get in there a lot of time just to be sure and when I got in there, same problem.
And I am positively sure I got all 7 (yes i did it solo, so can;t be many couse of scaling). So I think it’s bugged.
Yes it’s bugged. Dulfy agrees.
The achievement will trigger once you talk to all the npcs, before you go to the Asura lab. Don’t go to the lab until you’ve found all of them.
Everyone is doing precisely that, but the achievement isn’t triggering. The “7” number is coming from that being the amount of npc’s there are to rescue if you solo the instance (and yes, that includes the not particularly hidden one on the guard tower).
Getting the achievement is bugged.
Presumably they broke it when they put in the “fix” so you couldn’t save them afterwards.
I’m having the same issue. Rescue 7 (3 guard tower, 2 near cave, 1 near town, 1 between rocks in the water) and get no achievement.
I think I may see an issue. There are dead NPCs near the end of the instance, once rescued, a couple may die in an odd place outside of the story area.
I’m also seeing the same. I really hope they fix this soon.
bugged for me too for some reason I cant even get past the “clear Concordia” scene, after I finish clearing out the mobs cant get the dialogue scene with Tactician Art to continue the instance to trigger and the whole event stops so I cant even get to try this achievement now. Tried repeating it several times as well keeps happening definitely bugged for me
Yep, seems bugged. Rescued all NPC’s prior to going to the Asura lab (Vigil guards, caravan guard, priory explorers, and the one named Vigil guy), achieve icon was still active at the time, the instant I triggered the final event the achieve icon disappeared, just like everyone else.
Unlike everyone else, I didn’t see any dead NPCs on the outside of the map either. In fact, most of them were still running towards the lab when I got there (they ended up
kind of grouped together, most of them anyway), and yet the achieve icon still disappeared the second the final event triggered. Don’t think the dead NPCs are the cause of the issue.
You can complete it after you finish the instance. Instead of leaving go around the map and resurrect them, they appear on the map, you also must talk to them for it to count.

does not work anymore. as soon as you go to the final location the achievement just disappears as if it failed.
Perhaps another person posting will illustrate that something is wrong with this achievement.
1) I did it alone, so only seven NPCs need to be rescued (if that info is still valid)
2) When I talked to Lindsay, I ran to the Vigil watchtower and sent the three NPCs away after the combat.
3a) sent the Caravan guide in the water away first
3b) sent the Priory explorers in the cave away
4) rescued the Vigil in the water at the shallow lake in the north
5a) Still had 1:40 min on the clock for the “Time achievement”, when I approached the Asura Lab and triggered the defense event, the “On swift wings” achievement icon disappeared
5b) waited for the timer to run out and make the “Time” event fail. Again, when I approached the Asura Lab and triggered the defense event, the “On swift wings” achievement icon disappeared.
Without any other clue I have no idea what else to do or do differently. The “rezz after the event guide” that still is on dulfy did not work too (but I guess it was never intended to work that way anyway).
Please fix this or at least describe what we have to do to complete this thing.
(edited by Gorani.7205)
Yeah its completely bugged now, as I mentioned, I’ve done this several times, several different ways. I agree with pretty much everyone above saying that they cannot complete it.
“Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue in The Concordia Incident in which the On Swift Wings achievement could be earned after the instance was completed.”
I presume once they did this fix, they screwed up and actually made it impossible to do. How is that for a bug fix?
Yes it is bugged. There’s another thread here and several threads on the game bug section discussing this bug. Anet seems to be ignoring it though for whatever reason. The July 17th patch made this achievement completely impossible to attain.
It bothers me that they didn’t even playtest the achievement even once before implementing the July 17th change.

Exactly what I was thinking.
The pig problem for me is that, even if it wasn’t bugged, it’s horribly designed. It’s so unintuitive. There is zero indication that you’re suddenly supposed to save a bunch of NPCs.
Pig problem indeed.

Pig problem indeed.
It’s so unfair to have it broken so it hogs all your time.
It was just such a ham-fisted attempt at a fix.
Its difficult to finish due to bad design anyway, there’s not even an indication WHEN to save those npcs… whoever designed this achievement should be forced to play this instance over and over and over for the duration of season 2.
Now everytime and everyway I try to get this… the icon disappears → no achievement.
I even waited for ONE HOUR before going to asura lab → icon disappeared → no achievement.
CONGRATS ANET.
It’s bugged. I’ve done it multiple times with several of those times that should’ve been successful. I rescued all 7 by myself, told them all to retreat, kept my distance from the last event, and even scaled the side of the building up and over to the portal (which done correctly won’t get you close enough to take off the icon) and had all 7 NPCs standing in front of the portal alive and well BUT STILL NO achievement! Sick of that event.
The achievement may be bugged for solo people but I just got this done 7-19-2014 at 7pm PST with myself and 1 other person. There was 12 people to save and we saved them all and got the achievement.
Right after the cave event ran out and started saving all the people. The only one that screwed with us a few times was the guard in the water that the thresher was attacking. Got him first and rest went fine. Most of the survivors weren’t being attacked either.
The new achievement little icon tells you that you have to stop them from dying and do it in the time limit. Not the exact words but that’s the jist of it.
Tried yesterday solo/group, talk to npcs before the final attack/after and had no success.
Got the achievement just now solo.
What I did differently was that I waited for the 10 minutes to expire before going to save the npcs in the cave. After that I talked to the 7 npc and got the achiev after saving the last one, I did not let them die.
Maybe this helps. Anyway this one is a really non-intuitive and badly explained achievement.
Maybe I did something wrong, but I “soloed” this the other day, but it didn’t count i.e I didn’t get the achieve. What I did was:
- Rescued the priory convoy
- Killed the mobs at the first batch of three people to rescue.
- Rescued the single guy down in the river fighting a thresher.
- Rescued the single guy fighting the (husk? hulk? I forget…)
- Rescued the two further up in the cliffs (total 7).
I assumed the achieve would trigger at that stage, but it didn’t, so I went up to Goldenwing Hallow (beating the last two there), and as soon as that event triggered, I lost the buff and didn’t get the achievement. The last two definitely didn’t die, because I saw them run in behind me, so I can only assume I’m meant to wait for them to get there before going to Goldenwing Hallow?
Me waiting after rescuing all 7 and searching for other npcs… then after 10 minutes I went to lab and……… achievement failed.
