Really, I’ve no idea where they could be. Some people report jumping puzzles sometimes uncovering places, others report secrets adding to completetion. No one confirmed that dungeons or instances grant exploration yet though.
The way I got 175/175 in Kryta, was by just playing normally, gathering 100% completetion on every map, then coming back for spots I didn’t uncover on my map while doing that and it worked flawlessly, for Kryta anyway.

And no, those spots don’t fill in. Spots like them are very common on edge-maps, places where there isn’t any adjacent area, like north of Hatari Hinterlands.

Well thanks for answering — at least I can xxx out those from worrying or trying again later in a fit of pique jumping on walls that I have on two or three alts knowing it won’t yield anything :-)

I think I’ll just keep working on story quest for a while, go on to other regions and putter around. Maybe work on an alt questing through those zones; I have a level 40 alt that hasn’t been to anywhere other than LA in Kryta. Might be easier to find things with a map that isn’t filled in, if these are account-wide achievements.

That sounds more appealing (getting “something” out of it) than going back to the maps over yet again and trying to turn over rocks that are hard to see.

If anyone can report that all of the ‘explore’ areas are indeed cataloged on the wiki, that might be a starting point.

Thanks a lot for this thread guys. I got the 100% completion earlier, but noticed that a few areas were still missing. I’ve been going around sites forever looking for the one last point of Shiverpeaks and it turned out to be Doldenvan Passage in Wayfarer foothills!

Now, that list combined with VakarisJ’s 130 that he’s listed yields 157.

Things make more sense now (at least to me?) knowing that with the 14 that -I- personally can account for in Lion’s Arch, I have a total of 171, which is what my achievement total says I should have.

So now I’m back to looking for the other four.

Wanted to post this just because the math does add up now, though it leaves me wondering if items can be filled in on a map even if they have somehow not been ‘explored.’

i found Calx’s Hideout in Metrica Province – u go there by Pranna’s Asura Gate actavated by event. Its near renown Heart to the east from Akks Wild Waypoint.
Second thing i missed before was Aurora’s Ramains in Brisban Wildlands. U get there going north from skillpoint in Toxal Bog (South west corner). There is steep corridor, easy to miss.
I got all (Kryta, Maguma, Orr, Ascalon) finished now, only shiverpeaks left.
Now only one part of shiverpeaks left to get all explorer achievements… Anyone have 172/172 shiverpeaks?

And, by the way, don’t believe ALL of the wikis maps, many of them just misses some areas i’ve unlocked, Griffonrook Run for example.

As for krytan zones. There are a few that people miss quite often

1. demongrub pits. It’s a jump puzzle in queensdale, with its own white name location
2. Feral dens. Skritt location to the north west of harathi
3. Ourobore caves, mid east of harathi
4. hidden ourobore. Above the Ourobore caves, but you must leave them, then head north through a centaur camp, then east again
5. Provernic crypt. Its north in gendarran fields. You may need to actually enter the crypt proper to get it.
6. Icegate gorge (South east of map) I know I had to walk into a specific spot near the ice elementals to get this one to ping.
7. Bitterfrost peaks (North east of map) there are locations nearby, but this can be missed pretty easily.
8. beggars burrow and eastern divinity dam. Go to the top of queensdale and head east
9. windloss delves. In the middle of the map (queensdale), south east from the garrison.
10. Pinion trail. Far west of queensdale.
11. Kessex is actually pretty good, if youve 100%’d it you probably have it all. Besides maybe alakess ledge, which is far south middle.
12. Bloodtide is also pretty good. But Dredgehat isle, near the south west of the map (its a giant island with nothing on it)
13. Mistarion beach the beach to the north west of the whisperwill bogs

Divinity’s reach has 3 or so that might trip people up
1. the upper city, middle of the map
2. the palace, middle of the map
3. There’s some white named place on the Dwayna road. I believe it’s on the top most level, near the middle of the map. It’s not shown on the wiki map, but I have it on mine.

Try looking east of Shaemoor Waypoint in Queensdale by the graveyard (Beggar’s Burrow) and also more east of that as well (Eastern Divinity Dam).

Four “areas” come along with the story quest completing the Claw Island portion of the story quest. So if you for some reason paused in your story quest (like I did) for favor of exploring and other game activities (the hazard of an open ended game), you can end up with exactly four areas missing and since the game is new enough and documentation not great, … well.

I had been plodding along in my story quest and almost gotten there in amidst with jumping puzzles, when I stumbled upon some game forum somewhere that someone had the same “problem” I did — 171/175. They noted they got 4 out of story, turned out I was only 4-5 steps from my goal by then.

I finally cleared Maguuma and Shiverpeaks.

A forumer found me in-game and gave me the location of Calx’s Hideout in Maguuma, which was pretty kitten helpful, thanks.

The other one – Griffonrock Run. It’s a huge (relatively speaking) jumping puzzle in Lornar’s Pass of the Shiverpeaks. The enterance is 4 fingers (horizontally, closest zoom) bellow [False Lake Waypoint], where water meets the land. It’s accessible via a very small hole, obscured by underwater plants, that lead to a narrow tunnel all the way to the mountains, in which the puzzle resides. As far as I know, it’s the only jumping puzzle in the game that’s also an area all by itself.

I was at 170-172 yesterday and had a very hard time finding the last two points. The 5 that have given people a lot of problems are as follows:

Tail of the Serpent and Lair of the Coil in SW Timberline falls. They’re caves by the Coil waypoint.

Griffonrook Run was one I didn’t have and is described above.

I’ve heard Griffonfall in Snowden Drifts has been missed before. Take the Exile waypoint and head east hugging the southern wall.

The very last one is kind of easy to miss and was the very last one I got. Doldenvan Passage is east of Hangrammr Climb in Wayfarer Foothills. Take the Darkriven waypoint and just go south into the cave.

Anet told us like a week ago in another thread that dungeons do NOT count towards exploration.

Choose an explorable zone and there’ll be a list of areas you need to explore. I’d suggest copying the lists into MSWord or equivalent and deleting ones you have, to flush out ones you don’t.

AH. I found out which one I was missing. It’s the Chantry of Secrets completion in Bloodtide Coast. I went in once but never went all the way inside for the POI

Thank you! Spent hours trying to find the last one and yeah, discovered the entrance but never went all the way in.

I just can’t believe it but It actually WAS the Chantry of Secrets for me too!!! Apparently the Chantry of Secrets is an instance area which gives you a completion chest once you discover the one and only Point of Interest it has!

At last I have explored everything!! Thank you everyone for your help!

PS: At the Bloodtide Coast map I had 100% completion so I thought that everyone was talking about the Deadend Cave POI, which I had already taken. Apparently they where talking about the portal at the end of the tunnel :P

I was stuck at 174/178 Krytan Explorer….someone posted on another place they went to the Order of Whispers hide-out in the north end of Bloodtide Coast. I had already been there because it was part of my story. I had explored and went into the portal before I ever did the story. I returned and I got credit for it and thought great…but then I went to 174/175 Krytan Explorer??? I went to Harathi Hinterlands where I finally found that I had missed Hidden Ourobon and then the achievement completed.

Thanks for the tip. I paused on my story quests as well and am looking forward to finally finishing the Krytan explorer achievement. 171/175!!!

I was stuck on this map too and I found out that I haven’t explore the Ourobore Caves at Grey Gritta’s Waypoint. If you still have unexplored areas and you can’t find them, I suggest you to follow each road heading to mountains.

Are some of these needed locations not also on the list for each individual zone? I decided to go for the Maguuma one yesterday because I was fairly close, but ended up with only 161/165 after getting 100% on every necessary map. Are there just some points that aren’t needed for map completion but are needed for the achievement, or did they add a few points to places like Metrica or Brisban, which I haven’t really been in much since launch week?

Ok, I compared maps to the wiki and found my missing points. They were The Serpent Wind in Metrica, Aurora’s Remains in Brisban, and both Cubular Falls and Magmatic Conjury in Maelstrom, none of which are needed to get 100% map completion on those maps.

I hope some people find it useful as I presented it in the way I was looking for it when I was trying to get the explorer achievements.

Even tho dungeons do not count toward 100% map completion, some do seem to count toward the area specific explorer achievements, but there’s no real way to tell.
I’m simply confused b/c I had 174/175 – I did not have Beggar’s Burrows, so I just explored that area, and yet I did not have 175. I then explored Sorrowful Sound, and it registered yet not 175. I then found another ‘white labeled’ area on a map that i did not have, explored that and ta’da got 175. No consistency. Buggy!

BTW Thanks to Bluestone, who’s list I used to find areas I had missed, tho I had 100% map completion.

*Latest insight: Was finishing Shiverpeak Explorer 174/175 and did ‘Cragstad’, nothing, did ’Ulukke’s Hunger’, nothing, BUT once i did ‘Tribulation Caverns’ which is the opening to a Jumping Puzzle and tada 175. I think that absolutely all of the jumping puzzle areas will count for Explorer, so maybe its a good idea to do that achiev before doing Explorer and you may just get it in the process.

In addition to what is already mentionned, I was missing Dierdre’s Steps in Mount Maelstrom (Maguuma Explorer). This is the area of a jumping puzzle.

The problem I now have is that everybody is mentionning 172 areas in Shiverpeaks and the achievement needs 174.

I doublechecked with the wiki and Bluestone’s very well done list and have all areas they both mentionned. Any clue ?

There’s at least 1 new area that im aware of. Called “Forsaken halls” There’s a portal to it on wyrmblood lake (dredgehaunt)

You could also check around the tribulation rift. IIRC they added a new area near that called tribulation caves?

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get the Shiverpeaks explorer, as uncovering Tribulation caves means being able to first finish the vista in the tribulation rift, which just seems impossible for me.

btw I think that Claw island from Personal story (lvl 60-71) includes 4 poi for world map completion, I dont know, if this is count to exploer achievement or not…

There are 3 areas for Shiverpeak that are hidden quite well^^

2 in Timberline Falls
in the south east corner they are called:
- Lair of the Coil
- Tail of the Serpant
both are Caves!!! and not needed for 100% or a JP

1 in Dredgehaunt Clifs
near Mountain’s Tail
- Ulluk’s Hunger

Those were the 3 missing for me hope it helps

In Kryta i got all 175 but dont ask me where the missing ons are i dono^^
I’m still missing 1 in Orr and 1 in Maguma

Suggestion – go to the wiki for the areas and look for areas in the list that do NOT have POIs, VPs, or SPs. (like Diremane Woods in Hirathi Hinterlands) Those are the areas that you could miss and still look like you cleared the area. Then check your map to see if you have those areas.

in maguma its probably hidden garden JP in maelstorm map (near dungeon), if you dont have it..

in orr it can be zho´qafa catacombs in Straits of Devastation, entry from waywarde way or sentry steppes

Also the new area that contains guild puzzles.
