So earlier this year, one of the PvP Developers said they have 0 control over the skills of professions. I find this utterly dumb why they can’t make this a system:

The HOTM is a place exclusive for PvP right? A place where you can make a pvp build. So I figured why can’t ArenaNet make HOTM even more useful by making HOTM an exclusive zone. What I mean by this is that in HOTM and sPVP lobbies, the PvP developers have control over skills, but outside of HOTM and pvp lobby areas they don’t. So basically dividing PvP from the rest of the outside world.

For example: If this plan was implemented I would personally take out Dragon’s Maw in HOTM and sPVP lobbies, but if you go outside of HOTM and sPVP lobbies you would still have Dragon’s Maw because outside of HOTM and sPVP lobbies the PvE/WvW team control the skills, but inside HOTM and sPVP lobbies the PvP Dev team has complete control of skills.

It might seem like a confusing concept, but it will definitely help in adding more balance since the PvP dev team not having control of skills is a major problem. This will also solve the problem of the cry babies who cry every time a balance is made for PvP but they don’t agree with it cuz they do PvE or WvW.

So let’s say this happens and we split skills over game modes. Devllopers accross the game modes will modify at will and after a year they realize that instead of 9 professions they have 27 professions. So in order to allign professions they meet up every three months to reallign their design decisions to create back 9 professions instead of 27. However since they don’t aggree with the design decisions of their colleguees they get no progress. So in order to progress they decide to setup a central authority however it can’t be any of the game mode devs because that could result in favoritism. So they decide to create a fourth devellopment team that has the authority to make the final decisions.

Devs: splitting skills between pvp and pve would be too confusing for players.

Because fighting petzoo of like 20+ clones/phantasms/horrors/bristlebacks is not confusing kek

I think this is technically the old system we had, some things were exclusive to pvp and wvw and pve but again i think they decided to merge them more at some point. Dont quote me on this, im not sure. Wasnt there something mentioned about this though by them? Some sort of improvement, i forgot what it was.

Skills used to be split between the gamemodes. Then at some point (I think the big balance update before HoT) they merged all of the skills between the three gamemodes in order to “simplify” things for the new HoT stuff. Now I think they are realizing it isn’t a great idea and are splitting the skills again.

Yeah, that is what I was talking about. I just looked through them and found there were cases where they merged, but I think there were still some split skills at that point. I may be remembering wrong.

Actually, the “best way” to fix balance issues would be at cost of build diversity.

How about instead of splitting skills and create even more chaos… limit builds? If there’s lets say 9-15 fixed builds you can only choose from… that would solve balance issues… and class stacking issues.

And it would fit in nicely with Anets money spending policy…….

ANet had merged the skills to have lesser work to do XD
Without jokes, they merged skills in the big patch before hot and at the time they did a good job, but now they absolutly have to turn back and make the pvp staff able to manage over skills (just reducing/increasing some amount of condi/boon, some little damage up/down and the work is done).

About the build diversity, the Elite Specializzations are a way to do that. Pick up a totally chaotic amount of classes and balances, put in a Op elite version ov every class and see everyone able to use only that thing that you want to make, forcing them to follow your way.
And they did it good! We had different highly specialized classes, a real healer class (druid), a defensive supporter (tempest and chronomancer, more dps oriented), a offensive supporter (reaper) a hybrid dps class (berserker) and a lot of good other classes more specialized than before.
Then they seen that there’s a lot of unbalanced things between them, that frequently the players don’t wanted to play the specific direction of the class they made and then they turn back to the “everyone can do everything” philosophy, creating a new vortex of chaos.

Only a drastic split between sPvP/WvsW/PvE skills and some hard and merciless fix can resolve the situation

Majority HOT skills were designed to be play in PVE/Raid that’s why PVP is such a mess right now. Skills flying everywhere, just spam on CD there wasn’t any thought about the skill. PVP IS HORRIBLE

Heh. Yup. That’s about the time pvp started to unravel. The new trait system threw pvp into a tailspin. HoT….was the crash.

Yup.

The elite specs are definitely PvE-oriented. The specs seem to have been designed for you to constantly press keys and spam skills.

Remaking HotM is actually on the table. IIRC, one of the devs stated that the reason HotM is so crappy was because it was thrown together at the last minute.

ye prty much let the 90% of the community suffer due to some miserable life’d people who can’t even read the f-ing skill descriptions.

Check the patch notes for July 26th they have started doing it, they do need to do it on a larger scale though.
