Did anyone lose respect for Argi?
For those of us who don’t watch, what happened?
lol I saw this on reddit. Lost respect? I gained respect. What a legend. He managed to get on gw2 stream and quote the truth. Epic. I commend him 100%

i think many need to realise that the resoults of this season are already set. there is no reason to tryhard anymore, the teams got thyer place and winning or loosing further matchups do not really matter.
At this point i do not expect anyone in the pro league being serious.
The whole season is technically a catastrophe. ANet cant even maintain the visage of cometitiveness anymore….
Even if the fact that the season’s outcome might be predictable, but does it excuse Argi and the way he acted during the interview? Do you think it took anything away from ArenaNet or was it strictly all on Argi for the way he conducted the interview?

Frankly it is irresponsible to run esports tournaments without a pause mechanic. So its kind of frustrating for him if he works hard and clearly becomes one of the best teams in the game only to be screwed by possible foul play or at least just technical issues.

He’s got balls. Maybe it’ll make AN think about the state of PvP
I make PvP & WvW videos
Him saying what he said just verbally reinforces how the EU season is going. There’s no reason to try and like he said, they’re off focusing on other games.
You people need to stop putting these players on different pedestals. At the end of the day, they’re just looking to make a few extra bucks.

Argi clearly felt the proleagues were already set and didn’t worry about it, nor did he and his team worry about the match they were in. To him, the match and the rest of the proleague (or lack thereof, according to Argi) didn’t matter.
It’s only awkward if you make it awkward. I felt the commentators weren’t prepared and didn’t handle it accordingly. They should have acknowledge his point of view and simply gone with it. Perhaps even prying for other relevant league questions that pertained to Argi’s point of view.
Argi’s interview was fine, it was the commentators who didn’t handle it well.

You shouldn’t be drunk in an interview, but what he said was the raw, plain picture. GW2 “eSports” is a failed venture and he considered it to be a joke, sober or not.
I had a few issues with the interview.
First and foremost he’s acting like a child. A DDOS happened and it is what it is. You can’t cheat to right that and then get all upset when caught. Life happens and there are times you just have to man up and take it.
The lack of respect for Anet who put this together. Look I’m the farthest thing from an Anet fan boy but if I’m making money playing this game ima treat that league with respect.
It was kinda pathetic to be honest. Lately you just hear about how proleague is a joke and gw2 esports can’t be anything but a marketing stunt. But I’m starting to think that some of the pro players are mostly getting the competitive scene they deserve.
Still complaining about a DDOS? Anet can’t cover your kitten regarding stuff they don’t even have control on. You know you can be targeted, you take precautions. You don’t, you pay the consequences. ESPECIALLY when you KNOW that the game doesn’t have a pause function. Being salty about it when you could’ve done something about it is just childish.
Not to mention the whole CC and Frostball thing. Those players are a way bigger joke than GW2’s “esport” scene will ever be. And that’s saying something.
What better place than here? What better time than now?
I thought Argi was fair as he and the team are obviously upset about what happened deliberately in the pivotal match of the whole season for them and the lack of actions taken to correct it.
No loss of respect as far as Im concerned.
Now on the anet side… I think it was incredibly naive for them to even think they would get a good interview with anyone from VM at this stage. The interviewers were ill prepared for it and it showed with hilarious results.
As an aside, why would you even ask this about Argi when in other interviews done yesterday there were players saying they played the whole game drunk and didn’t know what they were doing etc??
It’s only awkward if you make it awkward. I felt the commentators weren’t prepared and didn’t handle it accordingly. They should have acknowledge his point of view and simply gone with it. Perhaps even prying for other relevant league questions that pertained to Argi’s point of view.
Argi’s interview was fine, it was the commentators who didn’t handle it well.
Id have to say that would heavily minmalize the impact.
If jebro was allowed to just discuss some clear negetive sides of gw2 openly, then it couldve looked closer to a debate rather than shocking bad truth.
I’m actually glad that Argi called it out as he did. A slap in the face is prolly what Anet needs at this moment. No pretending! No sugar coating! Just plain truth. & i know lots of players feels the same way. Player base is moving on to other games as Argi stated for himself. Helseth ranted about not streaming Gw2 no more in hopes of sending a msg to Anet. This game & it’s dream for a serious Esport arena is imploding. Not becuz of the players but of Anet it self. Shame! ..ding…….Shame!…..ding!
While I can say it was disrespectful to Anet, I think it was something they needed to hear. Similar to Helseth cutting gw2 off of his streaming, tarcis no longer playing professionally, etc. I love Anet and GW2, but there’s been so many steps backwards lately. Warrior is still trash after almost one year, tries to push esports and yet builds become even more shoehorned into one build, only a few classes get played and its always rev/ele and scrapper.
It just really pains me that diversity has been gone for so long, people used to get really creative with their builds and run weird stuff like signet warriors, banner warriors, axebow, etc. in the same patch. Me and my guild have been playing LoL because the game has gotten very stale competitive wise. LoL can be a salty place, but to their credit the 100+ champs are all getting played in some form with success. I don’t want to admit it, but it has really gotten stale and a lot of these players just aren’t taking it seriously anymore. I would dare to even say it was more competitive when they didn’t try and push esports.
GW2 was a better esport when it was Jebro and ChroNick casting from their bedrooms and not trying so hard to be anything but casual enjoyment.
I was sympathetic to vM when they asked for a rematch cause that DDOS was gamebreaking and i feel they’re superior to TCG. But any respect i had for vM disappeared as they cheated. I don’t care what happened, you don’t cheat.
The DDOS is also not GW2s fault. He mentions another game (could be Rainbow Six where this happened) where a bug causes problems for the teams and they restart the game. But this is a completely different situation. A DDOS is not GW2s fault, and unlike a bugg, the casters or whatever can’t know for sure if a DDOS has happened. What if Frostball just has bad connection or what if ppl drop outof games when they feel control slipping away.
I understand why vM wanted a rematch, but i also understan why Anet didn’t allow one. And any right of speaking vM had, completely vanished when they decided to cheat.
That fact is:
This pro league was ruined by a DDoS attack. Totally ruined. From a players and spectators prospective.
The fact there is no rematch chance or better, the chance to put the game in pause is a big issue for the competitive side of this game.
It’s pretty clear Anet needs to do something, changing rules, changing pvp structure with the pause option or both of them.
Spectators are the key for every show, if specators and players are not happy the show just die.
What’s the sense to have a pro league without specators and with teams unhappy?
anet should just stop the season. im sure the other team was involved but even if they admit it in vc, there is no prove. and its not that important who cheated, important is that this season is a joke. thats the truth and anet should admit that and put an end to it. what if those cheaters win 1st place and get real money for it. do you want to support that ?

I didn’t lose respect for him at all. If I was in his situation I would want to say something similar because vermillion are at least the second best team in EU. I was actually expecting them to win the eu pro league this season. The truth is that the 2 best teams should be going to the finals and I honestly do not believe that TCG are in that top 2 even with the roster changes.
The DDoS almost completely ruined the season for vermillion because the only chance for TCG to not reach the finals after that was if they dropped at least one game to car crashed, which I actually expected to happen (I predicted 2-1 to TCG before the game) but we all know what happened in that matchup. So yeah, I would say it is hard not to be frustrated with what has happened throughout the season.

This guy gets it. Argi ate the strim few weeks ago and now he’s being a kitten. No other game has such trash tier players in their pro leagues. From the looks of it the dude couldn’t even handle a real beer, so he had a flavored one and still got drunk AF. As viewer I think my IQ dropped just by listening to this guy. The salt was real.

Football has it, it’s called fairplay. The opposing team kicks the ball outside the field and the referee stops the game until the hurt player is dealt with.
Also usually when there is a hurt player there has been a foul made, thus the game might have already been stopped. But accidents do happen and the opposing team chooses to fairplay or not.
Or are you guys implying that the enemy team can pause whenever they want without the agreement of the other team?))

A DDOS attack cripples one player of a team. Are you trying to claim that if one player on the field gets a charlie horse and collapses, the refs wouldn’t temporarily stop the clock?

Ravenmoon used a foot ball example so i will go basketball since this was my sport k-12 and college.
Kobe bryant tore his achillies tendon and they didnt stop the game. He got fouled and they told him to get up and leave the court or to shoot his free throws or his team will be charged a timeout.
Steve nash just 4-5 years ago had his nose broken during a game and it wouldnt stop bleeding. He was not allowed to play in the game and they were charged with a timeout for him and the suns trying to get him back on the court.
Now these are actual sports and actual injurys whether is basketball or football. The DDOS attack from what i was told can be fought by 3rd party software ESL suggests some and a guild mate told me buying a legit firewall takes care of it.
Just like a REAL PROFESSIONAL who gets paid to do something. You take precautions and i think when you are potentially earning a couple thousands dollars you can afford to get a $20-50 firewall.
Everyone is crying for a pause mode. Obviously i have no clue about online sports but real sports doesnt have the “ok lets stop everything for the hurt player”.
Many sports do, although there are about a bazillion other factors that matter when playing a game over the internet that can’t really be controlled that easily….. It’s simply a necessity to have a pause option in any game that wants to be taken serious as a competetive game.
@Topic: I really don’t watch the interviews…. I’d watch them if they’d talk about why they’ve made certain build decisions and precise strategic movements etc, but not that weird and boring fluff stuff or Helseth just being a troll. Maybe some of the interviews do offer more insight, but I don’t wanna listen to all the other stuff to maybe get some information Im actually interrsted in.

I really just dont understand the pause button factor. Its suppose to be as real and as competitive as supposedly a real sport. And no most of these sports dont just stop for the injured player. They are trying to get the player out of sight and out of mind and finish the game as quickly as possible.
The 3 worst injurys ive seen on t.v was kevin ware, andrew bogut and shaun livingston. They were not trying to pause the game. They had to stop because or a terrible injury which in all 3 cases could of been life defining.
Question, if Vermillion had a sub would they still be crying this hard? If dude paid for a legit firewall do we still have this problem?
Beyond that the guy tried to cheat on top of it? How can you claim this that and this when your just as maniacal to the person who cheated you? You literally have players from car crash (who treid to cheat) and players from vermillion getting paid to play this game and are doing everything possible to say the Esports scene is crap because something didnt go there way. Literally have single Pro player at anything has a book of the obstacles they had to overcome and we are sitting here talking about a necessary pause button on a game most people question is worthy of Esports.
Face it, kdaddy has a legit point in here.
comparing a foul with ddos, comparing basketball with a gw2 match, sayin a legit firewall would have prevented a ddos – I don’t even know where I should start
Eh, just another “esport” player who acts like a brat when everything doesn’t go the way they want it to. It’s really not far off from a kid throwing a tantrum.
Very few “pro” players seem to be able to handle their own emotions.

The problem with your example is that real sports teams have this in mind, and have an ample 2nd string of subs in the event of something like this occurring. If a system like this were in place for esports, then a single person getting ddosed would be a minor issue; pause the game, sub the new guy in, continue the game.
Additionally, anyone telling you that ddos attacks can be fought by 3rd party software is lying through their teeth. It’s possible to prevent your ip from being discovered by taking careful steps to hide it (which can involve 3rd party software). However, there is no existing way to actually stop a ddos attack once they have you targeted. You connect to the internet through a specific pipeline, and that pipe can only transfer so much data at once. If someone goes over to that pipe and hooks up the outlet of a fire hydrant to it, you’re going to have trouble communicating with anything past that fire hydrant, and that’s the concept of a ddos.
@Pyro
Perhaps that is something that should change, they should be required to sign up with a team of 6 and keep that sub available at all times?
I know a lot of teams do have a sub most of the time or can find one with a little bit of time, not much to say to them to be available on those time slots and give them a cut of the winnings especially with games being played in the evenings.
DDOS attacked is common when you face top players team.
Not all players do it, but many with old leaderboard top 300 were doing this.
It is easy to take IP from TS servers and everybody and there mother used pvp ts in the pass or in the present.
I will not say that Named competing with you will bring you Lag. But, I have a short list of players who do this to me each time.
I don’t lag with my fiber network. I don’t lag into Gw2. But when I faced those “blocked” guyz, I will lag to nothingness.
Basically, they know they will get a hard game and want to win, they control their botnet access and send the ddos to the IP they copy and pasted from TS.
The BIGGEST JOKE EVER, is this 4 years later that this reality is showing to the crowds where it’s common knowledge happening into rank queue at top tier playing.
To protect your IP, don’t TS, don’t used forums that show your IP. Or private forum operated by spvp esports players.

I believe VM had an official sub but they weren’t available to jump in at that moment. So I guess it’s the same as not having one.
I’ve also heart Frostball had “protection” but also may have exposed his IP inadvertently regardless. A lot of underlying things that went on.
Argi has done quite few….. how to put it nicely, questionable things in the past. He got what he deserved.

There’s ways to spoof your IP by using a VPN or numerous other strategies. Now adays you can simply do it through a 3rd party webside. With a fiber network, your 1ms latency will increase to 60ms (if that) so it definitely wont effect gameplay.
There are precautions a player can take. In LoL it’s the player’s responsibility not Riots. GW2 proleague players simply dont take precautions when players in LoL, CS:GO, SCII etc do this on the norm. There’s a reason DDOS isn’t as big of a deal in other pro games..
I bet Argi hasn’t even changed is IP address. He definitely doesn’t spoof his ip when entering TS3 servers. Heck, they have bots that randomly grabs IP of entered players but these are usually done in massive public servers.

I lost respect for him quite long ago, aswel for Frostball and some others.
They all alted on Academy Gaming EU for more than a few times and even admitted it right after every tournament.
The sad thing is we couldn’t do anything and ArenaNet didn’t do anything either, after we told them many times, week after week.
And now, well, you reap what you sow, I guess.
Well he is right. Just look at your friends list. Most of them probably having logged in weeks or even months. My entire guild only plays during our raid hours, but spend most of their time playing different games.
He stated a hard truth not just for the pro league players but for all guild wars 2 veterans. Esports ruined pvp and heart of thorns destroyed peoples desire to continue playing it. But hey, Anet made there money so congrats on making profit but losing your loyal players.
Bad Elementalist
How does one lose respect for teams/players who never had them in the first place?
BTW they alted in NA games as well.
I agree with Jebro, the salt is real.
Shows once again that pro players are not the most social people out there.
Some of us had called it years ago. The e-sport fixation has done serious harm to GW2. Hampering progress as a game for fun and enjoyment in order to push an e-sport goal. But it was apparent from the start that GW2 wasn’t going to be an e-sport and ultimately those few who took it serious enough will get sick of it’s shortcommings as an e-sport and leave.
Now you’ve lost the hardcore competitive players, and you’ve lost at least a portion of the much larger group of people who just play for fun.
Three years is what it took before GW2 finally got a 2nd gamemode in pvp, not to mention the damage that neglect did to WvW that they only recently started to rectify (and to their credit have been doing a good job at).
Some of us had called it years ago. The e-sport fixation has done serious harm to GW2.

“Cries. It isn’t fair that frost got caught.”
“Cries. Wahhhhh. We had a disconnect and ANET should have let us have a rematch”
“Cries. Because everyone knows we are cheaters, we aren’t taking the season seriously”
