Hi Im Aeryn,
I’d like to know if PvPers role play because there isn’t much to do while waiting for queue pop.
I really miss queuing from Tarnished Coast Divinity’s Reach. Was hoping to re-create the magic in hotm.

I’ve personally never seen it. We (I) mostly just trash talk and complain.
I don’t have much experience RPing but I don’t think there’s enough in HotM to really facilitate it. I could also see haters following you around and mocking/taunting the RPers. My theory is that during the sales we got an influx of bad LoL/Dota players seeking the more casual difficulty of GW2 and that’s why things have gotten so much more hostile.
Unfortunately there is too much flame/immaturity for that in hotm. However you can likely find RPers that also PvP (and RP in party chat).
Shoot me a whisper and I’ll try to introduce you to the few that I know.
I’m a roleplayer who also does PVP, but I would never try to roleplay in the Mists. From my experience PVPers tend to be EXTREMELY volatile toward the roleplayer crowd, even if the roleplayers are also PVPers.
Maybe GW2 has a more mature PVP community, but I’m not willing to try and see.

It’s weird, compared to other MMOs/Mobas (because GW2 PvP feels like Moba lite) players here are way less hostile, but things still feel hostile. I think it’s the fact that players are frustrated with us jumping from one superior meta to the next. It’s never something being slightly OP, it’s always a few builds totally dominating the PvP scene. This makes players irritable, myself included. I was way more friendly in some of the older metas where it was possible to build to counter the current meta, now it’s generally better to just go with the meta because it’s miles better than anything else.
If ANet brings Mes/Ele/Burning in line, I think we’ll see a much more friendly/relaxed community.
Hi Aeryn,
I’ve never seen it done in hotm but if you break the ice, I salute to you. I guess RPers are fearful of the hostile nature of PvPers. I’m not one of them
I like how you’re taking a proactive approach on this. btw, love your ele!
@Burr – I hear ya. Pvpers could be very mean sometimes. Must be all the testosterone.
@Chaos Archangel – Sure thing, I’d love to join others like me. Will def message you.
@Ehecatl – I know how you feel about not wanting to try it. I just think it would be so cool if a bunch of RPers gathered, may or may not made fun of by other pvpers but still totally kick kitten at matches.
And have them go, “wtf, I just got downed by that RPer” or “omfg I just got owned by that noob geared girl RPer”
@abc – I love you for loving my ele
I RP constantly.
I’m a dancer. I enjoy doing dances and singing songs in the PvP lobby.
RP weirds me out.
RP weirds me out.
rata sum rp is rides the creepy/comical line so hard
pretty sure i’ve heard ‘roleplayer’ use as a derogatory term around hotm more than once. meaning casual/baddie.
Never seen any roleplay in the mists.
People usually just stands there and alt tab waiting for queue pop or climb structures.
I’ve seen it once or twice, really depends on what kind of lobby you get with the reaction. Personally I’ve never RP’ed inside guild wars but if I see it I don’t mind and I’ll normally take up for people if someone else goes after them for no reason. Best of luck to yah~
They troll in /m chat
That’s what you do during ques

Yes….
It’s amusing and rare to see but they do….
Mostly what I see is political debates and people who don’t read the patch notes complaining in map chat…. but late at night (US Central Time) it seems to have a couple of people who like to role play around the camp fire….
I’m a Pvper and a RPer, As far as RP goes HotM is not a ideal place for RP unless you’re looking to get trolled or flamed in map chat. When waiting for Queue if I do unranked i just either read map chat or talk to friends via whispers.
I will role play when I get the chance, being an old school D&D player.
At least a few players choose their class and race based on the role they’d like to play. I don’t mean just combat mechanics, socially as well.
In my case, Mesmer is the class I want to play.. First because of the style and the magic that captures my imagination. Second because of the lore. Gwen Thackeray , Lady Wi, Kasmeer Meade and Queen Jenna are all Mesmers. Last because of the PvP combat potential and style.
So, yes to that extent some of us role play.

Coincidentally, I noticed a few people RPing in HotM today. I’m not an RPer, but it was nice to see that people were leaving them alone, at least in map/say chat.
I sometimes “roleplay” in HotM, but I just keep it super simple or silly. Though, there could be a way to make the Heart of the Mist more immersive. After all, my Sylvari is supposed to be a combatant there.
i put on my robe and wizard hat
HAVE YOU MET FOXIBLE?
HAVE YOU MET FOXIBLE?
Story time?
I sometimes dress up as a cop in rl a pretend i’m killing bad guys in GW2 PvP.
Is that what you meant by roleplay?
I am a “lifer” of PvP and was an RPer for many years… until GW2 RP ruined it for me, and made me absolutely despise RPers. Yes, the RP in GW2 is really that bad. But whatever floats your boat.
Never do I see people RP in HotM. “RPer” is used as an insult in the GW2 SPvP community. Actually I find it very nice that I can go there and not see people spamming emotes with trashy romance novel tripe all the kitten time, but that’s just my personal hangup so whatever. If you wanna RP in the Mists, go for it — just bring a real thick skin, because you WILL be flamed / trolled by 90% of the people there.
Yes we do! And 90% of the time people dont care. And if they do We find it super funny and go even further just to taunt them
There is no place for this jib jab in a competitive setting. I for once am glad to not see any in an PvP environment, would make me rage even more than I already do. Makes me cringe everytime I get to see one of these people.
^ I guess it’s that time of the month for someone
i RP as Harley Quinn by doing /laugh everytime I kill an enemy…but they get..so..mad. Boo!

You must’ve had a really bad experience. Having roleplayed for years on WoW I can say that GW2’s roleplay is actually quite good in comparison. There isn’t a bratty belf around every corner trying to be a super edgy criminal warlord. Then again I play mostly charr and don’t interact with the human community very often, so maybe it’s just the “Pretty races attract teenagers” dilemma at it again.
