GW2 Spvp Free to Play
Result: Way to many players are leaving for other promessing MMo’s or games. Yeah players do return when something new comes out. But soon after leaves again due that it does not deliver from all what the hype was about. Sad!
F2P won’t combat people leaving. They need to fix the reasons why people leave not try to add more and more people.
Pvp is still not in a state where I would advertise it to other pvp-fans.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!

Once they get pvp in a better place, such an approach could be a great thing, but it could be terrible.
Why it might be good:
- Removes the barrier to entry, so players can get hooked via pvp before moving into other games.
- More money, as these players will want to buy the game upgrade, and then gem-store cosmetics if they stick around.
- Increase the player-base for pvp, allowing more diversity and implementation of game-modes
Why it might be bad:
- If you think the community is toxic now, imagine how it would be when people don’t suffer ANY consequences.
- More leavers…people will just make a bunch of free accounts, and will leave games more readily b/c there is no downside
- It might not actually increase revenue that much, as the conversion rate to full-accounts might be very low. If players aren’t willing to buy the game for even $10, they might just be the kinds of players who will never spend money on the game.
Yeah I dont think this is going to fix the problem and will likely make the problem worse. F2P isnt all its cracked up to be and is usually the last ditch effort of a dead game. (honestly I would rather see GW2 go to $5 a month than F2P, but their Business model is no subscription so they arent going to and I understand why.)
As I honestly feel that the biggest problem this game has is the lack of focus from the dev team on “problems” like bugs (Midair immob) and more focus on new features.
I also think that PvP doesnt have enough exclusivity in terms of gear and items and they focus on AP only to coerce players into the matches.
The only real exclusivity is the finishers which everyone and their mother has a dragon finisher.
So yeah, no reason to PvP other than your own pride, not enough focus on problem areas (leaderboard that doesnt really measure a player but measures the team they are on, mid air immob, 4v5’s, horrible match making), too much focus on new features.
With that said there was a recent post from one of the dev’s regarding the leaderboard that looks promising.
i also suggested something like this in an other topic. i agree this would help with the playerbase problem. the toxicity can be reduced with some mechanics like:
- ‘free’ players are forced to play with each other till rank 30
- people with more than 5% leave percentage become "leaver"s and are forced to play each other till they fall out again of the 5%
etc…. you got the idea.
Before PvP can be free, it needs to be fixed. Otherwise, players will come in and say that it sucks. It will open up to really bad publicity.

This game was already on sale for 10$ … And nobody cared about it. So making it f2p won’t change anything besides adding more gold sellers or hackers.
The player base would skyrocket for like a month and then people will realize how crappy the game is and they will leave.
Although f2p could be good for trolling . Making multiple accounts to troll the forums and kitten off people in game sounds fun.

Oh…. no.. your right. I mean i thought Arena already took care of that with the Block & Report. One thing I’ve notice, is how much the community contributes on reporting does spammers. ? i’m one of the first. So i don’t really see an issue.

You don’t understand the issue, not one bit.
Block and report works because Gold sellers are limited with a paywall. Without it, Gold sellers can simply make new accounts and spam every day. Blocking and reporting will do nothing because gold sellers can just make new accounts to keep the gold messages on your face.
It cost money and time keep the bot plague from being unbearable.

These are good suggestions, although I would be concerned about the gold sellers. Perhaps they can also implement a chat filter, although they would still find some way to circumvent it.
More frequent balance updates. GW1 did that right. 6 months for some tweaks? Not smart.
