Guild Wars 2

I have 18 characters and have been in and out of actively playing the past several months, however I’m constantly finding that I’m switching classes more than actually playing the game, especially in PvP. I started the game as a warrior, but as of now the class has become incredibly mundane and I’m unable to conjure up a remotely interesting build that’s effective in the least. Perhaps someone could enlighten me, and maybe help find a love for a single class again?

…and I know that classes are getting a bit of a refresher in the upcoming expansion, however this fact won’t help for the foreseeable future while we’re waiting.

Silly question but have you tried every top meta build’s (or non meta) for every class? I’ve seen a power necro down two people in kittens, tankable thieves and Engi’s more frustrating than swallowing gum.

I have. I’ve just found that certain classes (meta builds, more specifically) either have uninteresting mechanics, seem incredibly spammy, or lack viability in PvP formats. I’d love to find a build for a class which either requires a lot of skill to pull off or gives said illusion. It’s not a question of doing well with a class, it’s more a matter of enjoying the feel of it, which nothing is giving so far in my attempts to come back actively.

I have. I’ve just found that certain classes (meta builds, more specifically) either have uninteresting mechanics, seem incredibly spammy, or lack viability in PvP formats. I’d love to find a build for a class which either requires a lot of skill to pull off or gives said illusion. It’s not a question of doing well with a class, it’s more a matter of enjoying the feel of it, which nothing is giving so far in my attempts to come back actively.

I think kit engi (non turret/crate) is one of the highest skill classes out their. Only because there’s no definite rotation to them, not like a might stacking ele build. You have to time each skill on the kit yourself since there’s no 10s countdown on the left side like most classes have. Engi’s are easy to get into, but hard to master.

A class I would put close second with are thieves. Not everyone is a good thief; you can’t just spam whatever you want without consequence.

With 18chars you’ve probably tried it all. Hope I helped a little brother. GL!

You might enjoy 6/6/0/0/2 fresh air ele and Interrupt mesmer. Both can be powerful, but require a lot of active and reactive play, as well as general game knowledge (which you’ve hopefully gained playing all the other meta builds).

Even playing any of the meta builds at a higher level of competition will take skill. Necro’s core class mechanics may not be complicated, but surviving in a teamfight against good players takes a lot of awareness, map knowledge, and juking skills. So if you’re bored of literally everything, maybe try joining a PvP team and competing in the weeklies?

Otherwise, if you’re looking for some higher level of individual skill, then you might be in the wrong genre =)

Haha. My issue is that I love the action-combat style of GW2, and don’t find MOBAs (if that’s what you were inferring) interesting at all. I’ll see about trying an interrupt Mesmer. I do remember playing it at one point a while back and enjoying it at the time.

I was actually referring to FPS and RTS games. I personally find MOBAs to be 90% teamwork over individual skill once you get above a minimum threshold.

Interrupt mesmer I think has gotten stronger with the AOE buff to MoD.

yea im boored too dude is cose the ambient of this is turn to dumb when u have seen all the skills and all the essenarios . Is not like real life were u can see a new thing each day. Well i think u can suport the game on this be chating or meaby joking somehow.

This is my tier of the current meta builds, sorted by how fun they are to play for me(lowest to highest):

Cele Shoutbow Warrior
Bunker Guardian
Spirit/Condi/Bunker Ranger
Cele D/D Elementalist
Condi Necro
Power Necro
Rabid Engi
Cele Staff Elementalist
Cele Rifle Engi
Soldier Hambow
Shatter Mesmer
DP Thief

I have never played Mediguard, and all the other zerker classes are food for thieves/mesmers so I don’t consider them viable.
What I find more fun is the ability of a certain class to make “plays”, as in “things that may change the outcome of a battle”. Thus, the lack of CC or control skills usually make a class incredibly boring to play for me (shout warrior). I believe it’s useless to speak about how many plays you can make with a thief or mesmer. Engi is rated high as well, because safe stomping/rezzing (with Elixir S) stomp denying (with Throw Elixir S)CC is very fun to play. Bunker guardian is very boring. D/D Ele is boring as well because it’s an incredibly mindless profession to play that completely plays by itself.
Necro borderline, because when you start being focused it’s just annoying as hell. Power is funnier though, because of big numbers on Wells, but the CD is very high.
Hambow is kittened and easy to play BUT when you land your full Hammer chain you almost get a kitten (especially when you worked so hard in counting and baiting enemy dodges).

Soldier on haaaaaaaaaaamboooooooooooow is for sissies. Zerk’s or burst.

Give a 4/4/6 (II, VII / II, X / V, VIII, XI) lockdown mesmer a shot and see how you feel. Zerk amulet, sigils fire/energy runes of the pack/hoelbrak/lyssa with Blink/Mantra of Distraction.

It’s not easy, and it doesn’t play like shatter, but there’s a lot to learn and it’s madly fun/satisfying.
