Is slower PVP with healers and bruisers fun?
I think pvp has become an unplayable, chaotic mess.
Slow PvP with healers and bruisers is NOT fun.

That’s what we have right now, correct? Bruisers and healers?
It’s mostly down to preference. Personally, I like a somewhat high time-to-kill in my games, but I’ve also never been big on super twitchy gameplay. And the bunker meta of S1 took it way too far.

There are bruisers and healers, but they aren’t dominating PvP IMO. I may just be getting lucky for now though

LOL every ele, and ranger you see are healers. Also every necro, rev, and engi you see are bruisers. They are dominating the kitten out of pvp atm.
Test out what works for you.
All the builds are viable since last balance patch.

You welcome.
I don’t find it fun – I preferred old core GW2 pvp – after hot the tank/healer/bruiser meta is just sad.
In general the gameplay has taken a massive nosedive since HoT, which as far as I’m concerned made PvP significantly worse. The only reason I’m playing now is to finish up the backpack, since I achieved alot more than I thought I would in the 6 days I played Ranked last season. I’m sort of on the fence, though. Only playing the 3 games per day for the achievement. It’s really dumb. It’s like every class is an old Cele Ele. Ridiculous, brainless spam everywhere while being nearly immortal. And I have to fight without Elite specs.
ISO rollback to before juni patch gamestate. Some trojans and wurms leeked into the system.
The balance is bad, but the matchmaker is a lot worse. I don’t even understand why people want to play a game where one team is set up to win every game.
It is boring, win or lose.

I agree with this. Combat, in my view, shouldn’t be super twitchy. I don’t believe diving in and doing one rotation of a few key presses should be able to down a player. Worse yet, the near insta-gibbing we’ve had do to power creep and poor balancing. Combat should take time, it should be a more of a give and take.
Beats getting 1 shotted from stealth by theives while you’re stunned so you can’t do anything at all.
PvP isn’t designed to be fun. In this game, at least.

i think glass cannons that kill fast or die fast is boring not really a fight

No it’s not, and that becomes even more clear with every “update”/patch they make. Not sure what they are designing pvp for but it’s definitely not for fun or even for fair, even, competitive matches which = fun. ( It was a little bit fun when it first started and for like a year or so after that, but these days the word fun and pvp should never be in the same sentence)
I’m curious what more people think.
I liked it when builds were good at 1 or 2 things, but weak to others. It made for a lot of variety and made knowing your role and where you needed to be more important.
For example:
- Bunker guard was hard to kill and was great team support, but you could still push it off the point long enough to decap if you had a build with the right CC and used it well.
- Thief had mobility and burst, but couldn’t stay in a fight
- Condi builds tended to have an advantage 1v1, but didn’t kill you in seconds and generally would want to avoid team fights because they couldn’t keep up with group cleanses.
that’s the problem with every mmo. expansions=adding stuff to make you more powerful in developers minds which is just a terrible mindset to have
the pacing of pre-hot pvp was far more enjoyably than what we have now, even with cele eles walking around being immortal. the pacing was fast enough to make sure timing and reflexes mattered, but slow enough to allow for strategic play, they had a real nice sweet spot there
but with the introduction of raids, they did away with the rule of not following the trinity of tank/dps/healer and implemented healers. a big mistake imo. you’ve gone from very nice paced combat where builds could be diverse enough without feeling completely unplayable to a meta only situation where damage output has to be much higher due to the presence of healers in a sense
conditions and boons feel very cluttered right now with combat being very chaotic, and we have raids to thank for that :\
Current pvp is not at all tanky tho. Not sure what game you’re all playing.

It’s kind of a fine line. Getting one-shot isn’t fun. But having people that just won’t die isn’t fun either.

A game where warriors, thieves and revenants kill people pretty kitten fast.

I like this current meta the best, even with the loss of my precious popping purple seeds of love. Here is why:
1. Every class is viable this time around. This is very important to me. No red headed step children.
2. Glass one shot meta is gimmicky and not fun. The condi bomb meta is likewise skill less and not fun.
3. Bunker-Bruiser meta favors those who know the ins and outs of their classes more than beginners. The high damage metas tend to put everyone on the same playing field and caters to beginners.
4. They removed most of the gimmicks (except maybe rev staff 5). I consider those kind of skills gimmicky.
5. They removed the usefulness of annoying, brainless AI constructs, spirits, turrets, sigils dogs, etc.
Illustrious Exhausted Primordial Legendary Druid, and Mesmer for fun

I actually couldn’t disagree with this more if I tried.
Long kill times/passive DR/tanky players makes the game easier for everyone and really makes newbs have a much easier time in PVP. In faster paced PVP you’re forced to react fast, and predict things happening before they react, as well as know the ins and outs of every class.
In a tanky meta, you can be slow and not really know much but still live because you can’t really be punished and everything is extremely forgiving because of how tanky you are and how long it takes you to die. The more forgiving something is, the easier it is for new and bad players to do ok at the game. You can make more mistakes and aren’t as badly punished for them because you have enough sustain/passive tankiness to just get back up and keep fighting.
This is why thief is generally the hardest to play least newb friendly class. One mistake and you’re dead, but HoT has even made thief MASSIVELY more forgiving with not only the introduction of marauders amulet, but many other tools such as triple dodge and other passives and such.
1 shot metas are bad, tanky metas like this is a bad too, we need slightly less tanky classes and we’ll be at a good point.

Marauders always existed, it used to be called “Berserker” before the June patch.
Herald of Ventari
Berserker had less hp than marauders.
Berserker had less hp than marauders.
No the real berserker was included during the june patch.
Any other stat differences between “Berserker” pre june patch and Marauder after patch is caused by traitline stats.
