It's the instant skills that are killing PvP
I was thinking the same thing. I don’t remember there being this many instant or passive skills and traits in the game when I first started playing 2 years ago. _

It really has made things quite hectic. I miss being able to watch my opponent and react accordingly. Now I just have to assume they’re going to rush in for a burst from the start and then change my tactic if I see that they’re rather tanky. Although even tanky builds are benefiting from a lot of the insta-cast and passive skills. (regen, shouts, pets, AI, boons, teleports, sigil procs, etc.)
There really isn’t much heal interruption anymore because all the heals are either passive, instant, block while healing, or evade while healing, so there goes that tactic too. :c
wish necro had something useful that was instant. no way to defend myself from a mesmer =-{
I must be the odd one out, but speaking of 1v1’s, I haven’t been bursted down at all (and most of the times, after an innitiation from the enemy, I still win the brawl)
I really have no clue where this “Instagibbing” comes from, and this is not even a joke. I have been killed, sure, but it was either when I was on low health already, or when I was out of position and locked down by several people
Besides, what “Instant” skill is able to 100-0 you? A combo “might” be, or maybe one of those lucky 11k backstabs of which I saw a screenshot, but that still only counts for an Ele with a Zerk Amulet – whereas the former is usually just people copying movements from streamers, so not terribly hard to read and avoid
As for your question then; yes, I prefer this “instant burst meta” over the previous, disregarding the fact that the patch has not even been out for a week , and most people are still trying stuff for fun. Besides bugs, this meta is enjoyable so far, and not terribly difficult to survive in if you are somewhat aware of what happens on your screen… Or you know, that might just be me

IDK Man, I’ve seen some crazy Necro tanks out there that are able to take on and survive multiple “burst metas” ppl are complaining about.
Also seen some ele bunkers do the same.
So if there are a bunch of OP burst builds out there right now (which I think there are), what does that say about these bunkers builds?
Playing a zerky character, I’m not dying any more than I was in the past.
Actually less so since Distortion is no longer garbage on non-IP builds (there was a conspicuous effect lag while waiting for the clones to shatter, before).
Besides, what “Instant” skill is able to 100-0 you? A combo “might” be, or maybe one of those lucky 11k backstabs of which I saw a screenshot, but that still only counts for an Ele with a Zerk Amulet – whereas the former is usually just people copying movements from streamers, so not terribly hard to read and avoid
Also he never said anything about 100-0’ing someone. He stated that there are a lot of hard hitting skills with no tells that do a great deal of damage. Too much damage from something you can’t even avoid without luck. Some classes can combo instant class skills so fast that they can combo you down to 0 health in a second. Ele’s especially are known for this. Mesmers take a bit longer but with their seemingly endless invis, clone spam, and multiple stun/dazed via mantra of distraction; it’s hard to predict what they will do, and they hit too hard for how little effort it takes to burst with one of them post-patch. Zerker guardians…if they port on top of you and use a ring of warding and you lack a stability (or it’s on cooldown) you’re dead.

Grenade barrage was banned from ESL yesterday, deemed a bug – if not fixed within a couple of days, I don’t know what you’d expect really.
That aside, and let me make myself clear (again), I have been able to cope with whatever has been thrown at me. Sure, a Marauder Ele tipped me off once, but after getting adjusted, he was once more not a threat… Same deal with Mantra Mesmers – most, and I mean over 70% spam their utilities and forget that they have a dodge-key. I have seen Mesmers tanking Mirrorblade myself, and all what has left me thinking was “Do you even know how your profession works?”.
Basically, a lot has to do with people being inexperience as to what is thrown at them… Give it time, and you know how certain combos work, and it gets easier to avoid them, or parry it, because even now it is not impossible to recover from a Thief getting you to 50% health in the first engagement
Not just even that, but there are still builds out there who can survive these unpredictable bursts, regenerate and move back in the fight – however, the amount of people playing these is very low.
I am a little more patient in this regard… It took about 4 weeks last year after April 15th before people stopped running Greatsword Zerker Warriors and went on to Axe/Sword Celestial after it being popularized in tournament play. The same deal goes to any profession now, and then we are back to complaining about the ridiculous sustain some professions can pump out, able to survive multiple bursts

- Sorry I wasn’t clear, he also bunked against all my other teammates at some point.
I backwards engineer his build and also tanked all of those “burst” classes. So I’m not so certain anymore damage is too high, or people are not building properly (ie. going all glass).

agreed. instant skills && instant proc traits/sigils are the flawe of the whole combat system. The whole fluid combat system of this game is about avoiding damage with evades. You can predict some instant skills yes, but what about ista proc?! Its getting more and more terrible every patch. the problem is that after you destroy all the key abilits opponent lands some autohits or 0hitting skills and procs all his instant kitten sigils & traits and you are still dead. what should one do? you cant destroy all minor stuff too…

Medi guard here. Don’t nerf us just yet. Going melee without any kinda ports or stealth is kinda suicide right now. Wait till the burn is fixed and THEN if we’re still bad do something about us
Yeah yeah, post-patch chaos, burst meta, etc. This isn’t a qq thread or a nerf thread. I play all classes so I try to not to have a bias.
The real issue with this crazy burst meta is that the bursting classes are mainly abusing instant cast skills (medi guard bomb, scepter ele bomb, shatter bomb, etc). At least with a lich 2 or 3-shotting you, you have a chance to dodge some hits.
Is insta burst builds what we want the meta to be?

Instant kills take time to setup and can be countered by a LOT of things . The change is that cele class players are used to just smash random buttons and not die before patch. Now they need to GASP watch what the dps class is doing and use the RIGHT skill to avoid burst. l2p
