New map question- is orb a bundle or a buff?
I am also wondering if Shadowsteps are considered “teleports” or if this only refers to Mesmer portals.

I’m pretty sure teleports refers to ALL kinds of teleports, since they’ve removed swiftness, they don’t want any movement abilities helping with movement of the orb, so shadowsteps, blinks, etc. will probably all drop the orb..though I’m not sure on invulns.

Ride the Lightning does not drop the orb. Attempting to stealth or being combo’d into stealth does not drop the orb. The stealth just fails, with IMMUNE text.

The thing that’s fun about the orb, was that feeling of being chased and using all your skills to narrowly stay alive. The fights that break out when enemies are trying to bring down the orb runner, and allies trying to keep the carrier alive.
The thing that isn’t fun, is when the orb carrier is rarely in any real danger of being caught or stopped. When the other team doesn’t even bother trying to chase, because they know there is no chance to catch the carrier.
Yes, we fully expect that some specs are going to be better than others at running the orb. However, the goal was just to make sure that none of those specs felt unstoppable. Sword rangers actually make excellent orb runners.

That will be very interesting. How do you suggest to stop def eles? I mean he is fast as hell with ride the lightning. Is nearly unkillable and can use all his skills. In my opinion you will have no chance to kill them.
You are right gs/sw+wh rangers might be a good choice but bunker eles are much more viable for all situations. When you put such a map in the current meta, I will definitly say this will bring up your balancing issues much more.
just take a full team of engi’s in that chain CC them into the ground maybe?
I think our only concern is Ride the Lightning now if it isn’t reduced in distance traveled. While they may be slowed after it, that’s a huge distance no other class is capable of assuming the other leaps are treated like they are when Crippled or Chilled.

Could you make invulnerabilities drop the orb please? Of course I’ll have to play it first but sounds absolutely disproportionate.
Shadow steps and stealth fail so the thief is the worst at stealing the orb lol outside of maybe dodge spamming will see how that works…
I’d be cool with it of course if I didn’t know D/f eles can chain obsidian flesh with movement skills into mist form. Essentially means as soon as they touch an orb its guaranteed possession for what 9s? You can technically combo obsidian flesh with fgs to gtfo… Then there’s D/D eles mobility which would be cool if I couldn’t foresee invulnerabilities equating to uncounterable scores within range. This isn’t true for ranger and warrior since “Protect Me” and Endure pain are subject to CC the entire time.
I see a lot of professions bringing their own goodies to the orb other than necrosis and mesmer/ thief. Well they’ll still have shroud and their elites.
Maybe even conjures will get play with those deer leaps n stalls.

Reserving judgement of the map until it comes out (as everyone should, lol), but the map does not revolve entirely around maintaining the orb guys. There are still points to cap and hold, so no class is “screwed” due to a lack of mobility.

How does the map layout look? Is it a more vertical map, like Temple? If so, you can see the problem with teleports.

Just a random question about RLT since it will affect the orb, is RTL meant to ignore immobilization cast upon it in the middle of the ability until it reaches the end of it? I know immobilizations that trigger before RTL is used caused the RTL to remain in place until immo wears off, however the handling of it midway through RTL is not affected at all, also cripples/chills do not affect an elementalist until after RTL is over.
no idea about immobilize mid-flight, but I’m pretty sure you can be bounced back (like guardian shield of absorbtion or sanctuary) or stunned

I play thief so I was thinking that thief makes the worst runner, but then I realized thief makes the best runner stopper. He can bind everytime he comes out of stealth with the short bow, and turn the runner to stone., and lets not forget the scorpion pull rope thing

Thief won’t be THAT bad as a carrier. We still got dodge spam and Withdraw + Roll for Initiative for huge movement provided we face the correct direction. Dropping caltrops to snare pursuers and Daggerstorm to ward off ranged attacks and get stability.

If this goes into tourneys, util swapping isn’t there. Withdraw, RFI and what Signet of agility? To get some good dodging in? With Daggers for DB spam? I don’t smell offensive presence but we’ll see.

Tripwire and Needle trap are bugged they aren’t getting used. 2/4 already knocked off.
Ambush trap is fine, but there’s nothing about this map that gives it unique benefit it didn’t already have. Shadow trap would be the best fit, but if it became meta, it would be easy to diffuse if it even activated.

i really hope they do a good job on the ele nerf if they can carry orb and use RTL.
currently an entire team can chase an ele around a map while the ele just lols.

Never tried it, but I think/hope so. If not, RtL would be really OP. Maybe RtL gets reworked into a “normal” leap anyway to 1) balance it for the new map and 2) get rid of the self-stun.
Until that, I’ll play GW2.

Yep!
Maybe terrain would be a major issue that’s why RTL will still be allowed. With all the verticality, closed spaces, left turns right turns and all those shizz just to caryy the orb to an altar, I don’t think RTL would really be an advantage. I would worry more with skills that grant Invulnerability rather than RTL. But we’ll see.
Oh and I don’t know if this was answered somewhere though. If someone drops or loses the orb, does it reset back to its original location at the center of the map or can someone else actually steal it like some loot lying on the ground? XD

Stealth does not work when you attempt to use stealth skills or combo fields. I asked this due to the fact that perma-stealth would be incredibly cheesy with this new game mechanic added on the map.
