I honestly don’t get how the balance changes work. They change this OP thing then make another thing OP or not touch what’s already OP before. What.
Can’t they get testers that actually play the game? Maybe ESL players or them MLG pros to test the changes before releasing them publicly. If people think it could give the “pros” advantages for future engagements then just stream the testing gameplay on twitch or something so everyone knows what’s up and also give their own opinions. I mean, I would happily do it for free. FREE ANET, FREE. This way actual players get to really contribute instead of moaning day and night here.
Well?
ESL pros dont test balance, in fact they dictate and heavily influence on balance patches. ANet cater to those people mostly, you lucky if you play one of the classes that are loved by those pros (thief/engi), and sucks if your classes are not those (Mesmer).

Your post makes zero sense. There are only a few people who mained engi before the latest patch and literally no one ran thief.
EVERYONE wanted to see bunker mesmer nerfed, except for the few bads who were carried by it.
Actually thief did very well in pro…. well from the little I watched
Didn’t you know, gw2 is still in open beta. Because there are no actual testers/test servers, the live game is the test server. Even more, they have INCREASED iteration frequency to once every 3 months. Its kinda like decreasing your daily commute from 8 hours each way to 4 each way…its an improvement, but still pathetically bad.

I keep hearing this request and.. i’m not understanding it.
A public test server, other than the Anet’s private intranet servers the company prerelease patches on (amongst other things) before a global release, would do little to no good for this game… You don’t need a public test server for a free, lower pvp population mmo that is GW2. The company loses money keeping it up and they gain nothing from it.
Grabbing teams & players in a competitive environment like ESL or Leagues will deliver the best “testing” environment Anet can have. A “test server” will see a bunch of random players utilizing random builds on random teams with insane queue times. It’ll basically be our current SoloQ except lots worse, with heavily skewed results.

Well, why not test the entire game then? Not only for balance but for bugs and general feedback.
Even small games like Planetside 2 can support public test server. Why the hell Anet can’t?

Because they don’t want one?
PTS simply can’t match a live server environment. Plus they’d never be able to get pvp matches to pop on the PTS anyways with how the MM works. So they’d have to disable the MM to get pops which means the PTS definitely wouldn’t match live in any way.

You really don’t need to test much, most things are pretty obvious at first glance if you are a decent player. When the Patchnotes of the newest patch came out, I knew instantly that:
- Reaper is gonna be very strong
- Scrapper is gonna be very strong
- Rev is gonna be very strong
- War is still gonna be crap
- Mesmer is gonna be crap
I wasn’t really sure about thief and ele though and in terms of how good ele is, I’m currently still not sure if it’s worth playing it at the highest level, even after countless hours of testing, because a whole lot depends on how the meta evolves. This is sth. you can’t really test on a test-server, but it’s pretty clear that ele will not be one of the top-classes.
ANet should simply start asking ESL-caliber players about input on the balance-changes.
