I think I missed the memo where rank means absolutely anything at all?

armors, weapons,finishers.

All based on ranks.

Rank is the only thing a PvPer can get to make his character to not look like an idiot PvE scrub.

And guess what ?

Good point, that’s quite funny in a sad way, but I’m more concerned when 3 rank thirties all rush to stand on home base in solo tourneys, or someone says “I thought solo tourney meant 1vs1”-and are serious.

got 1k xp per game of what.. 5 minutes..without tagging.. Oo

logged off angry at all the time grinding for my rank..

The only solution is to remove glorygain from hotjoin.

People could still test builds and “have fun” – but since hotjoin only teaches wrong things to newcomers (like never defend a capture point, spam Aoe and move on, stay with zerg and so on), it shouldn’t give glory. I know it would only take 2 mins to make this change :P

This would also improve the arena population + people could only get ranks if they deserve it.

The thing is some of us don’t enjoy conquest all that much and hate modifying our builds for conquest, so we play hot join the majority of the time because it feels more like a death match.

I would make that the fixed amount would be 100 glory for losing and 150 glory for winning the match, (150 glory for losing in tpvp, 300 glory for winning in tpvp), you are only eligible for the rewards after you have completed 5 tasks in the game to avoid farming.

Custom Arenas would award glory but not rank points.

Also, those who farmed more than 50k rank points should be ripped from all the rank points they gained via custom arenas.

Thanks for the report? Is this something new? You guys were told about this prior to the implementation of CAs. You said then it wouldn’t be an issue and that you would have measures in place to safe guard against this behavior. One would think that a company with your stellar reputation would mean what they said…

Then they would jump off from khylo clocktower or find other ways. Until there is a good environment for farming, there will be farmers.

What you said is true, but only for A PVE PLAYER.

PvP players give no kittens about bags, they care about armors/weapons skin, unique rewards for your skill, titles, finishers, and most of all COMPETITION.

None of these are in the game, and basically the few things you can get can be achieved faster by simply glory farming in Hotjoins.

This would hardly fix anything, if I am correct, you could just lower the time limit on your CA, and get max glory and keep farming that way. If this is going to get fixed there needs to be some barring rule against it, or just let people have their way.

For example: If you have this rule of “Glory rewarded after the match”, then match the score limit with the time limit, it takes about 1 or 2 minutes in Skyhammer to max glory, so if they just lower the time limit match the score limit to about 50 or whatever seems equal so the amount of kills they are getting they cannot max glory every time.

Hotjoin was a great innovation in GW2; it is a very good stepping stone for learning the ins and outs of spvp, and later becomes the ideal place to test builds, practice while waiting for a tourney, and generally just have fun.

Some people in this thread have said farming exploits will always happen, people will find another way blah, blah, blah. However, this issue only developed after skyhammer and custom servers. As usual the extremists on the forum now want to chuck the baby out with the bathwater.

Yes, ban PvE-rs for farming sPvP ranks, because ranks are so big deal skilled hotjoin heroes, yo, so big, it hurts. And remove 8×8 modes. And remove hotjoin. And make dailies only for tPvP. And rewars only for top 500 in leaderboards. And glory only for wins, in tPvP ofc.
All those progressive measures, asked by hardcore forum whiners PvP professionals, certainly will attract new people to sPvP, this is exactly what we need right now. Do it, Anet! Do it!

Here is what is going to happen with the pvp rewards overhaul:

  • Rank is an unrecoverable mess, but they can’t remove it and risk kitten ing everyone off.
  • However, something must be done, so they will introduce additional ways/titles/ranks/whatever of displaying some measure of prestige. Will likely involve tournaments. Would be nice to involve some kind of tiered automated tournaments gw1 (but it won’t happen because they have 1 programmer).
  • Unlikely to involve leaderboard.
  • Glory will become less about prestige and measure of player experience, and more about personal rewards and a “feel good” way to reward even the baddies to keep them playing. Glory gain will be normalized across the glory levels.
  • Hotjoin will not be removed. Custom arenas will not be removed. (though personally I would like to see them removed.)

At least, this is what should happen, but I’ll save my vitriolic comments until after I’ve seen what they do.

Why not just remove the xp you get from using the skyhammer…?

I already feel like gaining rank is quite a struggle. I only play hot join though, because I am afraid of tourneys and custom arenas, because I suck, I don’t know what I should do, whether it’s ok to join and I don’t have the time to research it. I want to get better but I don’t have much time to devote to studying builds, practice rolling, practice skill rotations etc.

I feel like the system works just fine now, I am progressing slowly, but as a casual player I’d expect no more.

If there is a problem where players are misusing a mechanic, remove the mechanic that can be misused. In this instance it seems to be xp gained from using the skyhammer, so why not just remove it, lower the cast time and remove xp. That way it can be used for what it was intended for in tourneys. In hot join it will likely not be used anymore just like the trebuchets in khylo.

Please do not award xp only at the end of matches or start capping hotjoin, this will ruin the experience for many casual players. I’d like to still exit a mismatched match or exit if a need to and still earn the rank points and glory I earned myself before I exited. If you force everyone to play a full game to keep the little glory we made then you risk alienating many of us.

sPvP like WvW were supposed to be inclusive, and not focused on only the core players. This seems to go well for WvW, but in sPvP core players are complaining. sPvP is rightfully not a system easily balanced for both core and casuals. Catering for more casuals will often mean core players can more easily farm rewards. Diminishing returns is something that can counter such problems. Another is to remove the mechanic if it isn’t vital to the game. E.g. removing CoF is not viable, but using diminishing returns would be.

Off-topic, but: You have an economist on-board. I’m curious who exactly are doing the game metrics and systems, but if it’s not the economist, why not include him. The ones that are best at designing game systems are not computer science engineers, big data engineers, or mathematicians. It is actuaries, and risk/portfolio managers, who are. I know that usually the ones who design the metrics and systems in these games are either computer science engineers or mathematicians, or completely unrelated degree holders. But getting someone who has experience with option pricing, risk management, and financial rocket science has great merits to developing the game system, just sayin’.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel. The ONLY thing we have right now to show off our pvp accomplishments are our rank finishers, and now people are cheesing them with no repercussions, which is a giant slap in the face to me and everyone else who fought for it legitimately. Makes me feel like I’ve wasted all this time playing.

Personally, I am not that concerned about rank or glory, but Soyboy and others are right- any rank/glory obtained through exploiting needs to be removed. Even if it is just a blanket removal of all rank/glory obtained through skyhammer map (or in skyhammer+custom servers if that is the core problem).

If players had exploited in pve to get gold/karma/levels they would have this stripped (at least I’ve seen this or even bans given in other games). Also, usually when exploits are found in most mmos I’ve played they are fixed extremely quickly, even with server rollbacks etc.

It is strange that an Anet rep for the game has come out and used the term “exploit”, but all that is being done is “looking into other options to prevent the exploiting.” If it is still being exploited skyhammer should be shut down immediately until the fix has been implemented. However, re-reading Allie’s post I wonder if she is even talking about the same thing as the OP.

The more I think about it the more confused I am as to why nothing has been done about the situation. Have the farming/exploiting servers been shuttered? I mean surely at the very least that should have been done immediately right?

People could still test builds and “have fun” – but since hotjoin only teaches wrong things to newcomers (like never defend a capture point, spam Aoe and move on, stay with zerg and so on), it shouldn’t give glory. I know it would only take 2 mins to make this change :P

This would also improve the arena population + people could only get ranks if they deserve it.

Such a “great” idea. Have fun with another 2-3 times sPvP population decline, lol, looks like you deserve it.

I wouldn’t consider hotjoin population “PvP population” at all. If hotjoin declines by 2-3 times or even 20 times, but tournament population (aka real PvP population) grows even just a bit, it’s worth it.

sPvP like WvW were supposed to be inclusive, and not focused on only the core players. This seems to go well for WvW, but in sPvP core players are complaining.

It’s a failure on both parties. Anet should have done better testing, but if a player sees they are getting 10k each match. You think they would have enough decency to be like this is wrong, I should report it, and stop abusing it.

hotjoin in casual browsers shouldnt be punished…and neither should single hot join tournaments, not everyone wants to form a party of OP classes to get win after win, and i personally dont want to face them and get rolled everytime. there still isnt a rank seperation from a team of r 1-12 ending up fighting ranks 40-50’s…and its pathetic to give the high ranking guys favor over this because its not a challenge. underdogs get the short end of the stick in tournaments. browsers are a way people can move up in rank or whatever, if im headed to work and want a quick game but a good chunk of rank/glory, im sure as hell not going to sit in a queue for a tourney JUST for rank.

I did every daily (thus at least 3 matches) a day for 6 months now, i’m r22. Enlighten me how to get r50 in two days cause i dont get it and i want it…

1. Exploiting is bad.

2. Asking people to teach you how to exploit on the official forums is bad.

We’re changing it so that glory is only rewarded at the end of a match, which should stop the exploit where players leave and rejoin the match. We are also actively looking into other options to prevent this exploiting.

I can see it solving the problem of farming but …
Now, if you play good, you deserve a lot of points aaaaand you get disconnected before the end of the game, cya glory.
There are more and more rewards at the end of everything, it’s getting very frustrating because it removes the whole interest of “everything until the end”.
Same happens with dungeons : all the rewards at the end, go die if you get disconnected at the end.
Same with fractals.
Now PvP ? What’s next ? WvW ?

Perhaps the only thing more pointless than rank farming is purposefully trolling people who are trying to rank farm. If you find it fun though…
