PvP 3 wishes -what do you want most in PvP?
Just wanted you guys to know that we’re watching this thread here in the office. The results are a great way for us to see (even if it’s a very small sample size) how some of the players are feeling about what they’d like to see improved.
Could you watch my ‘The Dream sPvP Patch’ thread? Much of the stuff in there will require months to implement or is idealistic (e.g “Bring all classes to the same level of overall effectiveness”) but it is also true that some of the stuff in there should be easy to implement (quality of life stuff). I’ll be updating it regularly and will bump periodically to add to it.

You should also share your own wish list for pvp!

that’s an interesting idea actually

Yep, I’ve been watching that one too. I totally agree on bringing all classes to the same level, just want to make sure we do it correctly/over time and not do wild improvements/reductions everywhere and then have to revert them.
Quality of life stuff is always going on, it just also takes time.

John, it would be nice if you did what MTG/LoL does.
Make all Minor/Major/Grandmaster traits all the same power and all interesting/fun and NOT optional.
Allow us to pick our 5/15/25 traits, don’t force us into them. We should be able to pick our 5/10/15/20/25/30, all traits should be perfectly viable to eachother as well.
It would also be nice if you let us choose our secondary stats per tree, this level of customization would bring new life to the game.
Allow us to choose if we want critical damage on our vitality tree, or condition damage on our precision tree. It shouldn’t limit us so much!
We need Perfect Imbalance!

the largest quality of life improvement I could possibly think of would be to make salvaging easier in any way. The easiest solution would be to make all PvP rewards lower than the minimum quality that brings up the “are you sure?” screen when salvaging.
Sadly, until somethings done about this I’m saving my wrists the trouble.
And I guess as far as the list goes:
1. Better reward system
2. Solo queues
3. Better leaderboards (they’re a joke at the moment, sadly)
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!
1. balance classes, REALY
2. solo queues and team queue separated
3. another game mode (not just deathmatch, but something like CTF or attack/defense)
SFR
1. A more serious and larger game mode, like the original Guild Wars Heroes’ Ascent.
Seriously, I don’t get why not more people request this. Do you never get bored of meaningless single round matches?
2. An update to the reward system. Things I would like to see are slight reduction of point requirement for ranks (it seems to me that dragon rank is even more unachievable than R15 was in GW1) and more stuff in the boxes. I saw that a few armor sets got added with the latest patch, good job there it’s a start
3. Buff or change all useless and/or underused traits, and make a big trait patch to bring them into play. Much like what was done with underused elites in GW1 at some point.
the more game modes is a really important one. even though most of Tf2’s maps are community created it serves an important point. create a lot of different game modes and map types. this will allow the community to pick their favorites and allow tournaments to ban certain maps. Than all you have to do is keep making more of the maps that the community likes. This game would be much better if you just imported all the game modes from tf2. linear Capture point maps, CTF, KOTH. Also import all the Attack/Defense game types as well.
I still would rather have a map editor though. just look at all the community created maps. most of tf2’s maps are community made. a lot of starcraft maps are custom. Even League of legends and the moba map was driven by the moding community. You guys also make new maps rather slow. your game could be always gaining pvp content at a rate not possible for your team to produce if you actually let the community make maps. A community will support the game and create content if you let them.

1. NPCs out of PvP like minions, spirits, rock dogs etc.
2. auto attack should be just that, they shouldn’t stack conditions, makes for some really dumb builds, like ranger spamming 1.
3. thiefs with cooldowns.
Ofc these ain’t gonna happen so yeah….
Since these ain’t gonna happen

Thief with cooldown would make the class completely unusable. But yes the design choice was a poor one.

How does it feel to design PvP for a successor to a wildly popular game only to have every high-end GW1 PvPer (probably any PvPer who enjoyed GW1 PvP high-end or not) shun it? Are there any intentions to remedy that?
How does it feel to be a basement dweller who is too much of a pansy to say what he really means and instead comes off as a passive aggressive insecure kitten who is being blatantly rude to someone who is just doing his job.
1. Client options to reduce amount of particle effects/screen clutter.
2. Client options for normalized player models.
3. Client options to reduce the amount of conflict between camera and targeting controls.

1. Mesmer Nerf
2. Mesmer Nerf
3. Punishment for leavers and akitten and Mesmer Nerf
1.Dueling in Pve world and HoM
2.More game modes such as CtF Arena 2v2 3v3.
3.Take away raid on the capriocorn. Gahd always poop my pants when i see that map on the loading screen
1. Seperation between solo and team leaderboards/ ques
2. More maps
3. Necros, Warriors, and Theifs finding a solid place in meta
1: Bunkers to go away.
2: Retaliation to disappear.
3: More viability for warriors in sPvP
Wishlist:
1. GvG (this game is called Guild Wars after all…)
2. Dueling
3. Secondary Professions..Far fetched, I know
-minus 99% CC usage on all classes.
-balance the mesmer and the theif.
-fix necro Dots, 1 instant cast that applys 10 stacks = solved.
(edited by Shanos.2459)
1. Build diversity/balance
2. More rewards for PvP
3. Hotkey for target canceling (not ESC)

Extracredits is a great resource for all game designers, James Portnow (the main writer for EC) actually teaches some courses on Game design over at Digipen tech up here in Washington state. Many (if not most -I think it was like 41 of them last time I checked) of the Anet staff actually attended Digipen, so I’m sure that the EC channel had a big influence on the team’s approach towards much of their innovation. Anyways, great youtube channel, and great school!
1. Templates: will have to come along with build diversity and balance.
2. Underwater finishers.
3. Address the rallying system: something like limiting the number of people rallied when stomping an enemy to one. One enemy stomped, one ally rallied. The others remain downed.
- Team Death Match
- Team Death Match
- Hctam Htaed Maet!!
- 1. Build diversity and balance - Meaning at least two viable options for each class (offensive/defensive/hybrid/x).
- 2. More game modes - Capture the flag-like stuff (for instance) like “Rampage Ritual”, where each group starts in opposite ends, and have to mobilize attacks on the enemies’s base, in order to steal 3x magic trinkets of power (or some ritualistic item) and bring them back to group base. You can only carry one at a time, and after one team scores, it resets shortly after. When gaining all three trinkets, it takes three players to perform a ritual (channeling uninterrupted for X seconds) at the base shrine to summon some greater being that secures instant victory. That would be a lot of fun, especially if one had to transport the trinkets quite a long way, not just Spirit Watch length, which feels too short and easy.
- 3. More (fancy) maps - I am thinking of maps with more ways to navigate through, often leading to small skirmishes rather than a highway zerg that has no real place in SPvP.
(edited by Malcastus.6240)
1. Build Diversity (Many traits need to be straight up combined to make room for new ones)
2. More game modes (Personal #1, but obviously build diversity would be better for the game)
3. More maps (More of a backup for #2, if you won’t make more modes… the next best thing are new secondary mechanics and perhaps larger maps).

since you are on it, might as well want to check this one:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Staff-Elementalist-state/first
right now we staff ele are facing dire times.
Anyways, my 3 wishes;
1) Have ranged DPS options, specifically looking at S/F ele and Staff ele, same with scepter guardian which can be hilariously strafed (there is a video on youtube of someone just going left-right and dodging all without even trying
2) Favor DPS as much as bunkers, right now bunker rangers are dominating and there is little to no counter to this
3) Make PvP rewards affect PvE somehow (aesthetically), the PvP word is too small and currently people dont even look at you, make some armor skins or weapons that we can show off at PvE
Legendary SoloQ
i can only choose 3? hmm….
1: a different gamemode that doesnt rely on bunkers
I feel bunkers ruin the pace of the amazing combat GW2 has, what i love so muhc is all teh active defense>passive defense (something ive never seen in other MMOs), but in teh case of a bunker, they can kitten up and get hit by a perfect burst, but their defensive stats would simply allow them to heal up. Then they proceed to slap me for 50 damage, its kind of silly if you ask me.
i dont mean to offend anyone, but i just think tournaments would be much more fun if everyone ran low defense amulets (at max only 1 defensive attribute).
2: more attribute (gear) customisation.
what i mean here is: get a berserker coat, knight leggings, valkyrie helm etc. this isnt much of an issue, but id just realy like to see an option to do this. maybe, an option in custom arenas to allow more customisable attributes, but hot join and tournaments use the simple amuelts we have now (to prevent even more overpowered bunkers).
example (dont have to read this if you dont want to): i can choose from 2 builds, a burst shatter build and a mobility shatter build, i prefer the mobility because its simply more fun, but i lose out on damage. in WvW i can counter teh damage loss by switching more armor pieces for berserker, so i gain more mobility, same burst, less passive defense. its kind of like a meaningfull choice i can put a lot of thought in, and i cant in Spvp.
3: make pvp more noob-friendly
i made up a suggestion that should do just this, lately ive been very discouraged to write suggestions, because i feel like arenanet doesnt lsiten anymore, or barely, especially after spending so much time on the forums. but seeing all these Jonathan Sharp posts, i may aswell try and hope for the best…
it looks something like this: players get the option to suffer from statistical disadvantages (lose X% from attributes, only use 2, 1 or 0 utlity slots, slower movement speed, things like that), as reward theyll gain a % bonus glory and rank points at the end of the match. Maybe even special reward skins to show off youre a good player, or some sort of achievement.
if good players get motivated enough to play at a disadvantage, then the new people wont get facerolled by them as much, and they wont get frustrated and quit. (this comes from a very experienced PVPer btw)
Sorry for the huge wall of text, just had to get it out there. and @JonathanSharp i really appreciate you posting here, even if its just sharing oppinion/let us know youre watching
Also, I think all professions are currently balanced in 1vs1, but most dont have alot of builds, because most (more than 75%?) traits are simply useless. it doenst bother me all that much, because theres still a lot of personal style involved in how you play that build.
Happy hoping for pvp improvements in an already amazing game,

Hello anet!
At the beginning I would like to say that the purpose of this post is not to attack you, but somehow help you.
Please wake up … If you have not noticed yet, PvP of this game is going to ruins.
I do not get one thing, why you do not do things, which can stand the pvp of this game on its feet.
For a long time I believed that you come with major changes and stand PVP on its feet, but I already have a bad feeling that even though you know that PvP dies you will not come with the changes which PvP community expects.
Yes, I’m glad that you after all this time came with Spectate mode and Custom arenas, even if they are only in Beta version I have a good feeling from them, but it is not enough.
Please, and I think I speak for most PvP players, try to perceive more PvP community!
Please give gamers motivation to play this game, give them taste to play, because current state is missing it …
1. More PVP Game Mods
My goodness, add other modes to the game.
I come to tournament and occupy points, I come to hot join and again the same thing, no diversity, it is no fun after time!
Each map has some special mechanics like treb or guild lord?
It’s still the same, minor difference is not enough.
Adding the maps?
For what if it’s still only about minor difference of the mechanics and game mod remaining.
I like that custom aren has the opportunity to create 1v1 2v2 3v3 etc but it is really not enough.
I am tired of constantly play for tapping points, I want change, I want variety and I think I speak for most of PvP players.
2. Players need motivation
Give players motivation to play PvP.
Say me one thing, what currently motivates the player to play this game?
Players need challenge, they need motivation to play the game.
Some solo ranking will never be motivation, especially when it is like it is.
Please do the team ranking, and divide for God’s sake solo queue and premade.
Add the possibility to join unranked match.
Add more motivations to game.
For example, for the top teams of the month or year special rewards in the form of gems or special sets, items, cash, something extraordinary what motivates the player to play the game, to improve himself.
I liked the solution in GW1 where top players have gold silver bronze cloak, something that turned out their skills, and that they are top etc.
By the way what is guild back banner? Horrible!
Why just do not give a classic cloak?
Why do you try to be so much different?
I would like to say that there is one pvp rank and shows nothing, no skill, combine hot join and tournament rank was a huge mistake, but that is unlikely to change …
3. Bigger variety of builds and better balance
I think there is no need to write much about it.
Game needs a bigger variety of builds (1.2 build to 1 class is a few), it needs to add new skills, more skills=variety of builds … and improve balance …
I will not write here what is OP and what is weak …
Few other things to improve = possibility to save builds, sets like in GW1, so player does not have to establish X characters of the same class or remake build …
Add some activities to mists, so players do not have to just standing, for example, create an area where it will be possible to duel, move keg brawl to pvp zone?
Reduce effects of skills in battle, because of better clarity, give actualy playing builds to testing classes in mists not some nonsense, so testing will be more realistic …

100% agree, only reason why I started to play MMORPG is because of PvP “Only played WoW on trailer, so not talking about killing ppl out of the map thingie” but the game should be alot more PvP focused since it is almost like a pve game for thoese servers who is getting wrecked in WvW.
and “possibility to save builds” kitten yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! needs to be done, since everyone keeps writing “This char is to op” as soon as they die from them -.-…….

3v3-5v5 Normal maps:
so it wont be about capturing……srsly biggining to hate that now, since some ppl are point greedy :/
__________________________________________________________________
Competetive pvp:
Like a system where you start with a point and then can go up or down, this will be determend of your cabebilities not how ppl just point greed………actualy remove points and just put a normal 3v3 or 5v5 :I
__________________________________________________________________
Making the maps more fun to watch at, i like how it is now, but they got a fractal where you free this giant, a map in there from 1 st floor to last where you can see the Giant….do stuff, like fighting another giant(like Marvel vs capcom background thing) , would be amaizing, or a CoF map “where there are fires from the walls etc”!…….Btw Normal pvp 3v3 or 5v5 if you didnt get that :P
1) A Better rewarding system for PvP.
I feel like the increasing rewards you gain with levels are not in line with the comitment : in PvE if I want a t3 racial armor, I can grind for a couple of weeks and I’ll get it, in PvP I won’t get even close to it after months of playing only PvP. Not to mention you can’t even have any legendary.
I’m not asking to change the way you increase your rank in PvP, I find it fine as it is: it provides a long term goal for PvP as Gw1 HoH titles did. However, the fact that you tie some rewards with it is really problematic. Also, there should be a way to gain an income by playing PvP like there was in Gw1 with zaishen Keys, currently minus the few dies you get there’s litterally no way to earn money in PvP.
2) Fix the leaderboard/matchmaking.
The leaderboard system is a joke, players with like 10 gamesp layed and an average W/L ratio are way above others with 500+ wins in tourney with high W/L ? You should add a decay or a inactive status (if you don’t play a match for X days/weeks your status becomes inactive and you get removed from the leaderboard, after Y matchs played you can reenter the leaderboards with your previous stats saved) or even use a ELO system similar to LoL.
About matchmaking… well I guess I don’t have to elaborate a lot on this, there’s already enough rage post about how unfair it is. Facing a premade team of r50+ when you get allied with a PUG of r1-10 shoudln’t be possible.
3) New game modes. Obviously, I don’t realisticly see it coming soon, but you should totally think about it because people will get bored fast of conquest. Even modes not that hard to implement such as deathmatch or king of the hill would do (you could even use a revamp version of the current maps)
1) Unranked Queue to have fun with friends
2) New maps (good ones like the old 3 – not the new ones – no underwater combat!!!)
3) Reward System (Let us have some ingame cash that we can spend on skins or Dyes, or let us have mass-carfting abilitys in the mystic forge – so you don’t have to put in 4 item each times for one Dye – give us a “craft all”)
Engineer since BWE 1
1. Templates like in GW1
2. Normal EXP and gold from sPvP
3. The BAU: balance, build diversity, solo queue/join matches from the world…
1. Solo Queue (as mentioned in SOTG, will be implemented soon)
2. Class Balance (mainly viability of Warrior and Necro, rest is on track)
3. Reward system (gems/gold + beyond glory farming: class, race, leaderboard rank oriented rewards,)
Top 100 Solo Q for a full minute
(edited by Stof.9584)
1. Cultural sets available for mortals. Right now, I won’t live long enough to obtain medium charr t1 helm – only decent one for this race, which is easy obtainable in PvE.
2. Gold (or worthy items for sale).
3. Easy system of dueling, also available in PvE (with sPvP stats/skills/etc).
1) Fix engineer traits + sigils and runes working along side traits
2) New game modes including capture the flag and team deathmatch
3) Gold/Gem rewards for pvp or atleast a way to turn tournament rewards in for gold/silver
-Pvp Legendary Weapon
-Duels
-3v3 and 5v5 TDM Arenas
I will not be original but…
1. Solo queue
2. Solo queue
3. Solo queue
This will lead to the infamous “less QQ more pewpew”. Right now when I get farmed by premades its mostly QQ.
Someone mentioned SOTG which implies that solo queue is coming? Can someone quote/link to this please? It would be great news for me if idd true.
1. More game modes.
2. Ability to effectively turn down graphical effects.
3. GvG? Really, #1.. more complexity.
Apparently, I’m the only one that prefers fighting against the odds to sitting in a queue for 30 minutes per fight.. praying to god they don’t implement a truly solo vs solo queue. I have 90 minutes a day to play. Right now, almost all 90 of those minutes are spent pewpewing. With a truly solo q, it will probably be 40.
1 .2v2 and 3v3 deathmatch type of arenas
2 .gvg
3. solo queue
- New game modes: sPvP need it badly, most of the people don’t play it ‘couse don’t like conquest mode. Having only one mode bore the people too much. Give sPvP content to guilds too (as guilds are not only PvE-centric). Just be carefull to do not commit the same error you made with 2 team torunament: when 2team t. was out no one played the 8 team tournament anymore.
- Better rewards: if sPvP gave reward that could be carried over the PvE and WvWvW (something different from laurels) would be played by more people. Most of the player base is locked in PvE farming. Give to sPvPers some silvers per game: in this way true sPvPers can buy gems (for rental arena, skins, slots), dyes and/or skins from the auction house, while PvErs will feel that their time was not “wasted”: some time ago a guildie said “what a waste of time, if I were to CoF I would have earned 5 gold”. Make some laurel vendors that sell high grade PvP mystic forge materials and sPvP skins. Give “prestige” skins/title/rewards based on the ranking in the ladder.
- Better profession management: more balance, more build viability and (later) some new utility skill/trait.
Evening out ping and skill cast time – No game ever addresses the fact that there are players outside the US. Why not have a handicap system for people with higher ping outside the US? Say skill takes 0.5s to cast, ping is 0.25s. Alter skill cast time to 0.25s. It’s sad to see youtube vids from the US where people can chase and still get hits with melee. But we cannot
Australian based spvp server – So we can play GW2 the way it is ment to be played if the above cannot be factored in.
Split que – solo is for solo only. Can get an offer with a warning message that you can accept to enter a 4 man premades team. 2-3 get grouped together. 4-5 man group together before they get grouped with 2-3 and never get grouped with full solo que.
I totally agree on bringing all classes to the same level, just want to make sure we do it correctly/over time and not do wild improvements/reductions everywhere and then have to revert them.
Oh, like the sledge hammer nerf that hit the necro rite before release?
;)
With the difference you don’t intend on reverting those.
1.) more working builds for each class and not to fast nerfs after buff anything, players
need time to counter some new builds which looking at first to strong
2.) templates like in gw1, but only need that after more builds are working on each
class… atm nearly each class have only one working build
3.) ~10 silver after a tournament win, because gem shop and for sure because the new
arenas. i dont whant to farm on pve for create a new arena and be able to buy this
time tokens.

I totally agree on bringing all classes to the same level, just want to make sure we do it correctly/over time and not do wild improvements/reductions everywhere and then have to revert them.
Quite frankly I think most people would rather see much faster changes, even if they need to be corrected at a later time. The rate of change is too kitten slow, it’s ridiculous.
There are still far, far too many “mandatory” traits, and plenty of other that are close to useless. Unlike skill balance, trait choices can be measured objectively by popularity – anova, regression models, the tools are all there.
Another obvious move would be making 5/15/25pt traits a choice instead of being fixed.
Not to mention you can’t even have any legendary.
And thank god you can’t. If I ever see a twilight or a unicorn shooting bow in sPvP, I’m deinstalling.
1.) Additional PvP-Inventive: “Skin-Token” costs about 1.000 glory. Place this token into Mystic Forge with an Item Token, Arcane Token an Rank Token to create a skin item, which can be used in pve.
Why only 1.000 glory? The first item skins you get via PvP are also very easy to obtain in PvE.
For more special skins you have to invest more glory into it anyways due to the random change, or more time, due to the rank tokens.
In addition you can always add new hard to get pvp skins, with which you then can use in pve too.
You don’t want the people f.e. to not be able to transfer the vigil skin from pvp to pve? Then don’t implement this receipt into the mystic forge.
2.) You should host every pve event also in pvp. It’s a great idea to get the pve-backback items via an achievement, but why are we not getting this in pvp?
I’d suggest adding a list of achievements in pvp, which you have to do, to get this skins also in pvp. (f.e. fire 5 trebuchet shots in kylo, kill a shark, carry one orb, activate 10 buffs, capture 50 bases)

1-Solo queu
2- unranked games (for new players and testing builds + for fun)
3- team/clan system rank
1. Better match making, aka separate solo queue and premade queue or have separate ratings.
2. More incentive, aka better rewards and new skins!
3. New game mode.
1. Class balance cough warrior cough
2. Game modes outside of node capturing
3. Open dueling or a dedicated dueling area in the mists.
(Yeah, I was a WoW player and I honestly enjoyed just hanging out in Durotar dueling randoms and just chilling and watching other people duel.)
