Are there going to be any changes to Skyhammer and ranked solo arenas? Its ridiculous how much KB is abused on that map and while, lets say, engineers do have to expose themselves by actually being in the fight rangers can sit back in their safe spot, spam auto-attack while sending their whole zoo at you and just wait for their “Point Blank Shot” to go off cooldown. You can bring all the stability you want but when you have three rangers on the enemy team with access to a very powerful KB every 15s it quickly becomes impossible to counter that much KB.

Thats kind of you. I can feel with this poor guy. And you seriously can’t say l2p on skyhammer, it’s impossible to counter the insane nockbacks of some classes. Shame on me but I play decap engi, if Skyhammer shows up. Never lost skyhammer anymore after creating one.

Lol, in that map ranger is prolly the less of a threat doho.
1) Engy pingpongin you like no tomorrow, pulling over glasses and immobilizing you right there. You have the time to count mentally 1-2-3, you are dead..
2) Necro permafear spamm.. Cya on the ground.
3) Mesmer pulling from stealth with temporal curtain or knocking you down with GS. – That’s actually the map where, each time you get 2 or 3 mesmers on the opposite team, it most likely become a sure win for them lol -
4) Warrior, knockdown + passive fear or as well permaimmobilize on glasses…

An then here comes all the rest. (Thief scorpion wire, Ranger point blank and yada yada).
I dont play myself longbow ranger as i find it slow. And can just be played accordingly in team fight to become a proper annoyance. Solo i dubt you can manage any (normally). Barrage is a lot obvious, slow cast and easy to dodge, autoattack is like… a turtle running is more effective than that. Only decent dmg skill is prolly Rapid Fire but again kitten kitten induction. Ofc if you get 3 of them, all playing lame it can be really not enjoyable but…. I’ve fell more times into 3 engys/necros/warriors in that map than 3 rangers, and can tell you 3 engys is like .. /sit in base afk till it ends xD.
(* cough * if matching was made any good you shouldn’t get two or more same classes teamed up together * cough *)

As a person who’s suffered skyhammer more than most, I can say with a straight face that I have NEVER seen a SINGLE person actually like skyhammer in the solo queue rotation.

Yet arena-net decides that a map that actually doesn’t really mean anything, a map you can CHOOSE to play on, needs to be removed?

Why don’t I get to choose if I play skyhammer or not? It’s been almost a year people, listen to your community.

Water combat is more fun AND more balanced than skyhammer combat. Having bunkers that one shot people (without a downed state) is possible on skyhammer. Underwater combat not so much….

Did I mention that you can choose whether or not you play capricorn? Just play another hotjoin…

People have mentioned that a million times over, but the playerbase is more kittened with than without. At the end of the day that’s all that matters. If a piece of “content” is hurting your game, and your entire job is to help the game, then would the big-wigs be more kittened that you removed it or didn’t?

Hurting the game doesn’t matter as long as it shows pretty numbers..

As long as they get PvE’ers to try PvP at least ONCE every quater! they can write down a pretty number and claim to NcSoft that the PvP community is growing!

So is skyhammer which is largely stealth + cc/stability based.

Why one and not the other? From the ready up it sounds like they removed cap for more technical reasons and not for balance reasons. I’m still surprised to see one go, but not the other. The masses would rejoice if skyhammer was hotjoin only or trashed. I appreciate the effort on the map, but it doesn’t yield fun or balanced gameplay.

I never played a single soloq match due to this map alone. I just soloq in teamq, I get roflstomped by premades now and then so it’s really hard to get a higher win ratio, but I just don’t really care about some useless ranking. Although I greatly suffer those premades, but still, I prefer that than a single match in Skyhammer, that’s how much I hate that map.

Do you have numbers on how often Skyhammer matches end up 4v5 (or other ’with leaver’ scenarios) compared to those on other maps? From my experience, something like 1/5 of Skyhammer games are pre-ruined due to leavers, while most others at least play out to completion - even if they end in 100-500 stomps due to poor teamcomps or folks leavinf for any other reason.

We got statistics for how badly folks trying to flip dyes on the TP did - can we maybe get statistics for how badly folks who roll Skynammer do? Or how much the win rate is down to 4v5s, or class balance, rather than player skill?

EDIT: added link about flipping dyes and how easy it is to obtain/analyse statistics

I agree remove Sky Hammer from solo q.

On maps:-

All should be playable in hotjoin/custom.

Team Q/Solo Q should use the exact same maps and use maps that do not require a specific build. Sky Hammer, Spirit Watch and Capricorn all benefit from using a tailored build to play them.

You could also make Sky Hammer, Spirit Watch playable on there own for those who like them, ie part of no rotation, just 1 specfic map you can join. Obviously Capricorn is no longer on the table its in the waste bin underneath…

That still doesn’t change the fact that rangers have access to such a powerful ranged KB every 15s which basically allows them to sit in a safe sport (i.e. on the platforms above cap points on Skyhammer) and score a guaranteed kill the moment you run out of stability (the shot is even more powerful because of a very small range between platforms and cap point).

When I play as ranger, even on ranked, all I have to do is put down some traps on the cap point, go up on the platforms and wait for the guy decapping to run out of his stability (if he even has some). Then I use PBS… Owned. Its such a poor way of getting kills. Its even worse that outside trolling with spirits and occasional smart usage of traps rangers are imho such a badly designed class for sPvP. The only thing that makes them viable is Barrage and the “oh i am so skilled” PBS.

Engi rifle has a stronger KB on their Rifle + and Immob that is so much better at killing people on this map than any ranger knock back is (don’t get me wrong it’s still strong).

A 15s CD LAUNCH (which means they’re laying on their kitten for 2s after being thrown) + a 2s immob on a 10s CD means all they’ve gotta do is throw you onto a panel and you’re done, rangers have to shoot you over an edge or into an open panel, the former is more difficult to do, and the later is more dangerous to do (especially as a ranger) because it leaves you one stun or immob away from death.

I sympathise with you Marcos.

ArenaNet are making a lot of positive changes to the game in the next patch, but they really need to let us “black list” 1 or 2 spvp maps (just like we can in WoW).

Forcing people to play maps they hate, just results in them leaving the match resulting in 4 vs 5 or even quitting spvp altogether. A black list is better than removing Skyhammer altogether as it allows those who like the map to continue playing it.

I’m playing thief cls and switch a signet to scorpion wire and try to pull them at the plattforms if I’m sure that the enemies dont have a protection anymore.
In this case my class I’m able to defend it against 2 for a long time w/o any help from the cannon.
And I think this isn’t low skilled in general, because you need a lot of timing and an eye for the right moment. Engineers are quite strong too.

And I also think the cannon is the biggest problem on this map. The missing ability to dodge dmg combined with a roam lock if the plattform is broken makes a fight pretty unbalanced.

Will quit when the addon appears. Wont pay for turrets, cele amulet and shoutbow meta trash.

Some good points.

Reducing the cannon damage/radius and allowing it to be dodged would improve things, but I would prefer to be able to skip that map altogether, and fight on maps where it is more about combat skill.

I made at least 10 players quit GW2 by playing skyhammer engi vs them. I checked and i havent seen them online after the hatefull whispers i received. 23 pulldowns in soloqueue is my record. Anyone who has a better record?

Good job anet keep it in the rotation. Collaborative effort to ruin ppls pvp experience.

Welcome to the club. A couple of minutes ago I had a solo queue match against two engineers and a guardian (the rest of the team is not important). One of the engineers was camping on A, the other engineer and guardian were literally kitten us on the gun platform because if engi wasn’t able to throw us of the platform guardian made sure of that. The rest of the enemy team was simply camping on B. And we weren’t even that badly coordinated. There is simply no way to win a match in that situation on Skyhammer.

BTW, I don’t think that AR is the sole reason for engis being OP on Skyhammer. Take a look at Magnet. Its so easy to abuse it on Skyhammer and pull people down through platforms.

It is only OK when you have the upper hand right? Makes perfect sense, that surelly makes it more competitive…

Correct me if I’m not right, but team paradigm cried lots of tears while they lost so high on this map on the very first release. This makes me so laugh.
It seems that many “progamers” have a big problem with this map.

Skyhammer isn’t pvp.

Skyhammer is who has the most engineers/pulls/stability. No one actually fights each other on this map, they just try to land pulls and KBs. This map absolutely has to go from queue.

Skyhammer shouldnt be removed from the game but there is zero reason as to why its in the soloq rotation. Until its removed im sure a lot of players will continue to only join teamq when theyre solo, and it kind of says something when youd rather face a coordinated and experienced 5 man with a group of randoms than you would play skyhammer.

what i (and most other players want) is to simply have skyhammer removed from the queues and rotations, compared with every other map in the rotation it requires different classes, different builds, with entirely different playstyles, as the form of “combat” (i use that term loosely) is entirely different, based around simply spamming knockbacks until one of you falls down a hole.
it does not belong in the standard rotation.

let the trolls (and random masochists who enjoy getting stealth pulled/knocked to instant death) join custom arenas for skyhammer,
or add an entirely separate queue for afew servers that only run skyhammer.

I have a new idea to help Anet out with their Skyhammer problem. Im going to keep a list of all the people who stated they are quiting the game after i made their life miserable on skyhammer.

If Skyhammer does get removed ill send the list to Anet. They can write a nice apology letter explaining why it took so long and that it finally gone now.
