So.. is HoT good for us?
i am personally close to quiting this game completely (after the playing this patch for a while), expansion is out of question already…. i think the answer is pretty clear
pvp community is just small part of netire community and forum posters are even smaller number so i don’t think that any of our opinion matters
people who enjoy the game don’t post on forums, they play it
[Teef] guild :>
This meta is amazing!!!
In my opinion, this game is becoming a cash cow. They realized that with the dying community and difficulty of balancing an already so broken game they will just try and squeeze as much money from us by introducing new content while minimizing the cost of maintenance. As you said, the game’s PvP is dying and the community is only getting smaller so the only way for this game to have a chance to survive is by increasing the overall community of the game via the expansion and that would be the end of the game since they really kittened up in the previous years especially after failures such as wildstar.
Edit: I almost forgot, this game cannot really succeed as an E-Sport because it is not spectator friendly game. They realize that and PvP is by far not a priority anymore. They will not admit their failure as it will only affect their sales in the upcoming expansion. This is only logical really, so my suggestion is just enjoy the game while it lasts, if you really wanna support anet go ahead and buy their expansion. However, do not expect this game to have a flourishing E-Sport future.

What has sPvP gotten besides reward tracks since release? I don’t know how Anet thinks anyone’s suppose to be attracted to it. What even happened to the 2-part PvP updates they were talking about? They threw out the first part and now claim everyone’s to busy on HoT to do anything else. Meanwhile HoT sounds just as shallow in terms of content. They’re so hesitant to talk about anything it’s sickening. I literally created a new character in GW1 just now out of boredom.
The balance is horrible now and when the expansion launch it will be worse. Just look at the Elite Specializations and the number, it will be crazy lol.
I was hoping that they will be balancing the current meta until HoT launches, but it doesn’t seems like they will do that.
For me the balance of this game isn’ t the best…Look at ranger. I can tell you that unless they make ranger decent I won’ t buy Hot. Why should i spend my money to play a neglected and broken class?
But i still hope they do something cool for ranger. That’ s why i keep looking at this forum
I’ve come to the realization that they most likely they won’t be balancing the game until they release the new elites and revenant, so that means expansion time. Even then they would need time to evaluate the new specs before they pull the trigger on anything, so another couple months after, they’ll be busy with other bugs as well.
But it’s been a month already and they can’t even do something as simple as drop burn damage by %5 and see how that goes? So what, another like 6-8 months before we get any decent balance(I hesitate to even say that lol cause anet doesn’t know balance) between classes? Ridiculous.
I’d guess the people enjoying the new meta are the ones playing the broken specs at fps game speed. If you can’t beat’em, join’em I suppose.
To answer the question, I would prefer competitive balance now and delay the new content, but that obviously does not work for a business with deadlines. But if I can’t enjoy my favorite classes then what’s the point of playing, so I’m less likely to even buy new content at this point.

Anet had 300 employees in 2013 and probably less now, so they need to be smart with investments. DLC is not popular these days and gw2 appeals to a niche market that like bang for buck. That’s always been a niche gw2 has benefited from. Expansion packs are easilly the best company decision for them to make regarding the financial meta and their intellectual property.

It’ll be something to see how they manage their resources once the expansion hits. If they’re at all surprised that their last major patch was as unbalanced as it was, then there’s only a slim chance they’ve seriously considered how specializations will also upend balance greatly. PvE is already numbingly trivial, whether to appeal to a wider audience or what have you, but from the sound of all these new upcoming abilities, enemies will be relegated to decorations at best. At this point if even the most ardent defenders of easy content get bored, do they spend their resources upping the ante there, or do they worry about the intricacies of PvP balance? Somehow lowering the damage of fire and knocking down a few mesmer abilities doesn’t seem like enough.
I can’t even guess anymore. It’s like they’re working really, really hard, with players mixed between being part of the screaming bunch or those cordial in their critique, further sprinkled with a dose of people who have nothing but positive opinions regardless of the situation. How does one manage that? I don’t think there’s a way, but there are ways to do it less badly and I think that’s what’s worth looking for.
They don’t really express what it is they want either. Do they want people who prefer super easy PvE gameplay while simultaneously being willing to throw $10 at whichever small upgrade the gem department comes up with? How big is that demographic? Is it worth slowly sacrificing those who prefer challenges and balance? Is there a middle-ground somewhere? Is there a better way for them to make PvP more fun and interesting while also making it more lucrative to work on?
Naturally, if PvP was their primary source of income and something was amiss, they’d be all over it. So, the solution is perhaps not to stab at individual concerns, but rather to find a fundamental way to make PvP more like a pillar in the game rather than an extra feature. There are many similar concerns in the WvW community and I think the two modes may be facing the same dilemma even if it’s from different vantage points.

Heck yeah!

Not true, they have more employees now than at launch. I’m to lazy to find the video with colin saying this but its out there on record.

Might be true especially with customer service additions, however ArenaNet seems to have a high rate of turnover on employees. Last I heard, take it with a pinch of salt, is they don’t pay too well, don’t have many advancement opportunities, and upper management is not really in touch with the game or most of the company. Even ignoring rumors we know of a bunch of devs that have left ArenaNet. Chris Whiteside, Kate Welch, Rober Hrouda(dungeoneers and rangers cried), Martin Kerstein, Habiib Loew who was in charge of WvW for like a month, and I’m not sure about Mark Ferguson since it gave up on WvW and just seemed to disappear. The point being is that they have lost a lot of prominent people so what does that say about those we’ve never heard of?
The point being that lots of turnover can mean that the new employees are not nearly as efficient as they have to learn the code/tools while trying to make deadlines.
It’s only PvP and maybe WvW people complaining. PvE is having a ball right now.

That’s because pvp and wvw is competitive play that affects other players. I’m sure if the pve mobs could have a say they too would be telling you that the last patch put this game out of balance. So much so that they went and complained to anet about it, and got their hitpoints buffed, tequatl was laughing his kitten off when players started failing him again all of a sudden.
Seriously though, pve doesn’t have to worry about damage and balance of combat between classes, it’s just a matter of killing something faster, the faster you kill the faster you get your loot and move on, so yeah they’re having a ball with the damage increase.

(lol)That and HOT seems to be mostly updating wvw/gvg/pve
We get revenant this patch and hopefully a little more focus i future expansions

Well, consider that we are getting a new game mode, and that pvp players are benefiting the most from the elites specs: most pvp players play every profession, so it represents hours of experimentation with new stuff, that I’m looking forward to.
Also, Guild Halls are amazing for everyone who is in a guild. If Anet devs are smart, they will let us queue from our hall, and we’ll sure benefit from it as well.
This game makes tons of money they definitely have more employees than at launch. They just don’t use those resources on pvp.
