@People asking about 1on1’s: For now it’ll function like the current tourney system, but instead of 3 rounds, it will be 1. So both teams join, go in, play a game, come back out.

We also toyed w/ the idea of the “winner stays, loser pays” mentality, so it’s something that has been tossed around. As this will be a “beta” test of the system we’re going to be open to iteration and listening to player feedback on it very closely.

Wow im suprice(positive) So many ur post JS.

I agree with this changes and i think that tournaments should stay like RA in gw1, so u can click play and play ALONE with 4 other random pple and u are playing untill u lose vs another random team. Its should be quite funny. But for teams u need create system 1vs1 and latter add daily at’s.

Its finally changes in good way.

@edit 1 – with 1vs1 how pple know on what kind of map they are gonna to play?

Really, only on Temple of the silent storm?

That will get players tired of it real soon then… I genuinely hope this isn’t true, and maps are randomly chosen/voted for/chosen by teams.
Otherwise we get to grind one map again like bad pugs do with forest of niflhel (did that when I was still a noob, not fun)

I also hope the order of the maps is changed for tournaments… That’s also a major reason for the high difference in skill between casuals and hardcore players: Those last ones get to play all maps, whereas casuals usually only play Niflhel and Foefire.

I don’t mind if they keep a strict order for tournaments, as long as they change it every week. Totally random is probably not an option as some people want to respec for every map they play, making such as system rather annoying.

Btw, Jonathan, thanks for the replies. A lot of people were just waiting for any response. It feels great to know that you are actually listening to what we have to say.

But kyhlo is the most fun/complex map imo. It deserves to be the last map.

I really hope they are with a huge undead-rombot-dragon and a redhead rider with Sephiroth katana killing+nutrilizing everything at the bases :P

I support this thread, players want to hear something about the additions to pvp that were promised.

Also, if you let me I will copy a post I made mathematically showing why paids dont pop. My apologies to anyone that has already read it. You can skip the following text:

8 teams join a paid tournament. Each team is made of 5 people who spend 5 tickets each.
8 teams * 5 members * 5 tickets/member = 200 tickets spent.
- One team will end 1st. That’s 120 gems each. 120*5 = 600 gems
- One team will end 2nd. That’s 80 gems each. 80*5 = 400 gems.
- Two teams will end 3rd/4rth. That’s 20 gems each. 20*(5+5)=200 gems.
- Some gems are given as lottery prize, however no one knows the exact % and it seems very random. My experience says you will get about 20-40 gems every 3 or 4 tournaments.
Total gems given as reward = 1200 gems + (low, random amount).
Conclusions:
- With 1200 gems a total of 100 tickets can be bought
maths: 1200 gems/ 360 priceof30tickets = 3,33 stacks of 30. 3,33*30 = 100 tickets.
- 200 tickets were spent to join a tournament, and only 100 were returned back. Also, a 83,3% of the tickets are given to the top/most experienced teams. The other teams are left with 16,7 tickets and that means 0,556 tickets per player.
(considering top teams the ones getting 1st and 2nd positions)
- Only 2 teams out of 8 can play paid tournaments continously. That means the 6 worse teams will have to farm 4 (2 teams) or 5 (6 teams) free tournaments to play a single paid. The average is 4,75 free tournaments to farm.
Considering each free tournament takes 45 minutes, and considering you win 100% of free tournaments (which is not mathematically true) we can calculate the amount of time an average team has to spend to play 1 paid tournament.
4,75*45 minutes = 213,75 minutes = 3,56 hours. Since i didnt count the daily ticket (yay!) we could say the time spent is from 3 to 3,5 hours.
- 75% of the teams (6/8) have to farm 3 hours to play a single paid tournament. Also, 4/8 of them (50%) can only play a single round. A single round takes 10-15 minutes.
That means 50% of the teams aiming competitive pvp in gw2 have to farm 3 hours to play 12,5 minutes of competitive pvp. Another 25% of teams (which are better) are rewarded with 25 minutes of competitive pvp every 3+ hours.
T1 teams = best teams
T2 teams = good teams
T3 teams = worst/new/50% teams
- T1 teams (that are already better) can practice paid tournaments 100% of their time.
- T2 teams (that win T3 teams but get farmed by T1) can practice paid tourments 13,8% of their time
- T3 teams (people wanting to start at competitive pvp) can practice 6,94% of their time.
—> T2 & T3 teams quit pvp or play free tournaments 86-93% of their time . Since free tournaments are pug stomping they will hardly get better.
—> T1 teams are getting better and better, while T2 and T3 teams improve very slowly
—> Only T1 teams queue paids. Since the gem rewards remain the same (even if the teams playing paid are really good), we have 3 new tiers: T1.1, T1.2, T1.3

AMAZING FACTS WE REALIZED
200 tickets are spent to join a tournament and only 100 are given back. Anet gets 50% of the entry. That’s too high. To give you an example, a casino holding a poker tournament only claims 10% of the entry price.

83% of the prize is given to the top teams
Good, average & bad teams get 0,556 tickets per player
Only best teams can practice full time.
Good, average and bad teams can practice 6,94% or 13,8% of their time
Less people is encouraged to queue, but the amount of people to make a paid pop is quite high 8*5 = 40
If you have a life and decide to spend your money, you will have to pay 10€ for 800 gems. That’s 10€ for 66,6 tickets. Considering you an average team, you will get 0,5 tickets/paid tournament. Since you will play 13 tournaments with initial tickets you will gain 0,5*13=6,5 tickets, which means an extra game. You paid 10€ to play 13+1=14 tournaments, averaging 15-30 minutes of gameplay each tournament
—> you paid 10€ to play 210-420 minutes depending on your skill.
- To practice, a new team has two options:
*> play 10 hours for every hour a top one does. If a top teams plays 4 hours every day, a new team has to play 40 hours/day.
*> pay 10€ every 3,5 hours (if they are “bad”), pay 10€ every 7 hours (if they are “better”)
This awesome system we have makes queues longer, and that means T1, T2 and T3 teams can practice even less % of their time than was calculated.

SPvP is about satisfying our ego’s. In order to do that you have to be able to stand out.
When I win I want my victory to be celebrated. I want people to be talking about me.
I want (mostly) women and men kissing my feet. I want my enemys to shiver when hearing my name. When I loose I wanna feel hurt. I want to feel the pain when someone kills me and I want to feel the satisfaction of taking revenge. I just want to feel…….

What SPvP needs most of all is a satisfying leaderbord and also armours exclusive to the top players! Give us something in order to stand out!

^that’s very elitistic Hector, thumbs down. It isn’t about the top players. We’re not all pros like you, and we still want to enjoy SPvP. If only top players enjoy the game, Anet can close it’s doors, cause only a handful with actually consider joining SPvP. We nearly reached that point.

Weeell – it took me a while to read all the posts xD
I don’t even know what to answer at this point – but I guess I’ll throw in my perspective of things.

I’ve been doing random skirmishes for a loooong time now – and it’s starting to feel kind of boring playing the same mode with the same 4 maps over and over again. Don’t get me wrong – I love playing sPvP – but atleast some variation would be nice.

When it comes to Free Tournaments I feel that (at least when I do it with some friends) that the first 2 rounds are easy – and the last round is incredibly hard. I know it takes practice and stuff, but sometimes it’s like we’re playing in a whole other league.

Round 1 = We dominate them.
Round 2 = There’s a bit of a struggle, but we ultimately win.
Round 3 = We get owned terribly.

I’m really looking forward to the private arena feature – since that makes my guild able to do practicing nights. As the leader of our tournament team that’s something I can’t wait to happen.

I hope devs understand we are not really mad at them but that we are just sad that the game is not using it’s full potential. I for one, love this game and I spend a lot of time playing it. The game is already good, but now It’s time to make it perfect!!!!

I think the most important SPvP feature is a leaderbord with a guild rank based on guild vs guild battles. Way more important then a personal rank, because this game is based on teamplay. This is one of the things that made Guildwars 1 so succesfull, so why not do it again?

I think some of you guys need to back off… Johnathan and the team are building every month on this FREE game and are doing a good job.

Omg, you talk about some other game not GW2.

FYI this game isnt “FREE” at all. I palyed 65 euros for it (at preoder day one).
also FYI devs doing great job (maybe) in PVE only, I did not see any PvP change so far (except for a few balance patches).

Mate get a grip……… I meant you are not paying every month like a kitten WOW game. You play free month on month and you have option to pay for gems. you are not forced too. They are doing a good job. If you dont like the ideas they obviously want our opinions on then go play WOW. They have made any changes to PVP as yet, if you re read topic they have ideas and the reason they are using this topic is to get ideas and opinions from us players to make it so we cna all be happy and to increase the amount of people that play this game.

I think this thing they are introducing is one week trial so it will likely be just the one map. however, your points well taken. Anything that was introduced more long term, id like map variety.

I am in agreeance pal but at same time, i still think do an individual ranking as well as guild ranking would be doing everything possible and using the games full potential. I also liked arenas in first guild wars as part of factions. It is very similar to wvw but if they could somehow integrate this too. But i like SPVP and i am looking forward to single pvp ie 1v1.
