The state of PvP is not good
the hope is back though
1) Guilds can register guild teams to compete within sPvP, in both Conquest and Stronghold maps.
2) Leaderboard will show the best guild teams in the world9.
In game tournaments? Sure.
Solo queue doesn’t need to return. Current system is fine and more flexible. People just lie to hi I that the other team is always a premade and that they’re always on the team with random pugs.
Leaderboards would be nce to have back, but I’m sure they will be and how’s not the time for that. Too many post-path bugs/imbalance.
Would definitely love to have more ranks to work for, but that may be tricky to implement for people who have been 80 for over a year.
You can still queue from anywhere, but ya, HotM can suck to be stuck in. Map chat there is particularly bad and it could really do to have a jumping puzzle or something like that added.
As for the ESports stuff, I think the biggest problem is that they were never really advertised well and the coverage is really sparse. There’s no highlight reels or coverage on what happened, so if you miss the stream or don’t have the time to sit through The entire thing, than it’s a pain in the kitten to follow.
Not being able to play hotjoin while waiting for a tournament queue pop is my single biggest gripe with PVP since it was changed. Downtime isn’t fun, yo!
We need ingame tournaments – these were in game and removed
We need need solo queue – this was in game and removed
We need leaderboards showing skill – these were in game and removed
We need progression in the form of ranks – these were in game and removed (everyone made 80)
We need the ability to queue from anywhere – this was in game and removed (and it didnt stop any 4v5s because 95% of them are rage quits anyway)We do NOT need more esports tournaments for the 5 teams that show up to compete. Honestly eu has about 4 teams. Hardly even worthy of being called a competition which undermines the whole event.
We do NOT need balance decisions being influenced by behind closed door discussions with players who have vested interests (debate should be open)Honestly the amount of wasted effort at arenanet seems staggering. I would like to say that pvp has got WORSE not better over the last two years. Put simply, everything this game needed was in place. The map selection is really cool. Those things should of been additions.
I think this game’s PvP is an interesting case study. The game itself has been a huge success. Look at the sales figures. They are staggeringly large. And at launch the PvP needed work. It got the help it needed and we had a great game about 2 years ago. Since then almost every change made has negatively impacted the game. This has worked to actively destroy the PvP scene in this game. It is essentially completely dead now, with almost all players now just playing for their daily as a kind of daily chore.
Something has gone wrong somewhere. The decisions made to remove all the things above are astonishing. Literally those are things that almost any other game in history is working to put into their games. GW2 had these things and they made the decision to remove them and remove all the work put into them.
Think about these things logically and it really does show that this game’s PvP does have no hope. If things were bad but the direction of travel was good…sure….we could stick it out and wait. But things get worse and worse with every update made. The direction of travel is wrong, and the result is that the PvP in this game is not worth worrying about.
I definitely like the direction of travel now, though, not when they made those other annoying changed. I simply love the faster gameplay that tpvp has become. I just hope that they don’t nerf damage too much – I love the 3 marauder and 2 cele/tank comps that i’m seeing.
I think the biggest thing that’s hurting pvp is the speed of travel… it’s taken nearly a year to implement these pvp projects. We Still don’t have a working leaderboard after a year worth of test seasons. Matchmaking balance was terrible the first Four months of the merger of spvp and tpvp. Time of fix is what’s hurting the game. That brings me to my next point…
These items wouldn’t have been a big deal if Arenanet advertised PvP better. They started showing Tournament WTS info at the top right hand corner of the screen but now I don’t see any tournaments listed. There’s no Tournament Streams to click on, no advertised items anywhere other than the occasional News feed when you start up the game. Even then, there’s not even a picture of a WTS team holding a trophy or anything. I don’t even know of any other teams besides the ones I hear on the forums. And I’d like to – I want to see a roster some where without digging through the forums or some other 3rd party site.
TL;DR
I know GW2 has grown since the HoT hype. It amazes me how many new players don’t even know about these tournamemts, especially the Pug Quest which I think is awesome. If Anet advertised PvP properly a year ago, we’d have a stronger player base in the competitive scene. PvP is far from dead and it can get bigger, if Anet wants it to.

Yea, but 4 v 5s are worse and that change significantly reduced them.
So basically arenanet only removes content from their game and makes it worse every patch.
right now you need only 2 class for pvp ele/mes all other class is trash d/d ele for tanking+big dmg and mes for spike people in 2s
Wait, premades and solos are on the same queue? wow, how small does your pvp crowd need to be for you to do that.

Not really, I still have some of 4v5s.
Also, if it’s about the ol’ “but what if a player is in a loading screen when the queue pops”: So many options to fix this besides disallowing hotjoin:
- Make the time available to accept the queue pop a bit longer, but remove some time from the pre-match startup.
- Just leave it as is, if a player doesn’t accept the queue pop because he’s in a loading screen that doesn’t lead to a 4v5 but rather makes the 9 players rejoin the queue and quickly give then a new 10th player.
That’s the thing: what made 4v5s happen at least a bit less was implementing the “are you ready?” dialog when a queue pops, and actually kicking players that aren’t ready out of the queue. Disabling hotjoin has nothing to do with that, and that’s why is such an ungodly decision to do that…
