Gw2 needs a mechanic that allows a player to swap between predetermined builds. Though it is rarely addressed, it’s relatively easy to see how useful it could be.

Imagine if you could change your build as easily as an clicking on a costume. Imagine going from DD ele to SF burst Ele during the interval before match starts without the other side knowing.

Why has this not been done, a long time ago?

+1. Templates wouldn’t be hard, maybe they are putting that into the expansion with all of the other ideas that were straight forward and seemingly basic implementations that were supposed to be added “soon”.

The amazing thing is that all of those threads in the 2nd post were linked and none of them were the one thread with a dev popping in to say they were working on templates. Just take heart in knowing that it’s another background project that you will never hear about until “when it’s ready.”

Also, someone mentioned in an older thread that there were design issues with how templates were done in GW1 that wouldn’t necessarily work for GW2. I can’t remember what exactly but I believe one of the potential issues had to do with GW1 saving data locally for templates.

Don’t worry brah,
an anet developer mentioned in a sotg a year ago, telling the community would we like it if they made us a pvp template to easily switch builds and the answer was yes (was in reference to either spirit watch or skyhammer hate, due to this not being implemented yet, they are not in the ranked que).

So brah, they working on it, but you know how coding is, very very difficult, its not like they have 4.0 PH’D students from MIT in computer science and programming fields working for anet.

Anet budget cant handle those kind of people, so they gotta make due with what they can handle, so just wait it out, whenever the developer can figure out how to do the coding for it, it will be done.

These developers aint dumb, but they aint the best in the business so you gotta work on how skilled they are, not everyone can afford the best coders in the business and get work done in a timely manner.

Working on it.
Timeframe, whenever we can figure out how to code it. This aint no 1+1, this is some serious stuff, very difficult for average person to do, cant youtube this kitten.

I mean its kinda obvious they started on it (a tab called PvP builds), but actually making the code so you can easily swap traits sigils, runes, weapons, etc. (to whatever build you want to play, ex. AH guard, medi guard, support guard, skyhammer guard, spirit watch guard). Now that’s some serious stuff. That making a tab called PvP builds, you can youtube that and figure it out, but the other stuff, requires critical thinking skills, applying all that you’ve learned together and making a miracle.

You know why expansions take a long time to come out? Nope not because of graphics/art making zones and such. Its all the coding not related to graphics/art.
Coding isn’t no easy thing to do, theres not many coders out there, and 4.0 college degree coders, good luck finding those. I would imagine they charge 5 figures an hour to help you with coding.

My suspicion is that they basically have it for PVP only, and have had it for quite some time, ever since the new PVP build UI launched..

If you look through “We need templates” posts there was actually a pretty big discussion with Justin/Evan about what could be in the Template UI for PVP.. and basically people from pve came over and like yea we really need finishers and minipets, otherwise there’s no point.,,

well considering that your stuff already auto changes when you enter the mists its already setup to be 2 different platforms.

Now PVP can’t have it until we have a version that works across all game modes which isn’t easy to do…

You still have to get out of combat to switch builds. I think it would make wvw more entertaining. At the very least it would help with those long runs. The fact you spend a large amount of time running about in wvw is one of the more boring aspects.

Arenanet’s stance on WVWVW is it will not be balanced and has followed through since Beta, why does it matter if builds get switched in an environment that isn’t meant to be a balanced in the first place?

You didn’t actually bring any data to back up your opinion.

It’s logical that removing gates from content makes that content more accessible.
The easier it is to switch builds the easier it is to play different builds, This PROMOTES build diversity.

Every game which has allowed build templates I’ve played has allowed me to try new things fast easier and without hassle.

So in melee, they can’t win against someone, so they’ll get out of combat but stay in sight, and with simple click go for full condi spec to unload right after catching up.
Only few classes will be able to do it, and especially those which have the handful access to Torment.

As Necromancer, I don’t give a single pig about people swapping to condi spec from melee and vice versa.
But other classes won’t really be able to stand much of a chance vs such feature.

Well, it’s in Anet’s hands. If they want WvW to be a blob-only zone, then they could also remove World progression from there, just like there is none in Eotm.

Should work in PvP, WvW, and PvE.

Why not?
All it does is encourages fair fights and you fighting at your best. Makes fights more interesting because both players are ready to fight.

As long as your out of combat you should be able to swap. In PvP, ya know what, I really don’t care if you can swap during actual game too. All it will do is make fights more fair and interesting. Also is like chess because you can see a mid fight lots of people going at it, and go an AH guard because its a team fight, than when you get into a 1v1 scenario switch to medi guard.

The only thing I see that will hinder this is the utility skills. You cant change utility skills if they on cooldown, so having a template change issue is probably going to happen most with the utility skill. And I say to that, keep whatever cooldown (if 120 second cooldown, keep it at 120 seconds cooldown but allow changing to whatever utility) its on and change the utility. Can only be changed when out of combat.

Prime example but one problem, once you go S/F ele you won’t need this skill template because you will soon discover that S/F ele is master race and no other build matters.

You didn’t actually bring any data to back up your opinion.

It’s logical that removing gates from content makes that content more accessible.
The easier it is to switch builds the easier it is to play different builds, This PROMOTES build diversity.

Every game which has allowed build templates I’ve played has allowed me to try new things fast easier and without hassle.

The reason it actually kills off build diversity is that it pushes the meta into rock-paper-scissors of hard counters.

ex: the other team has 3 necros so i’ll switch to my anti-condition build,

the problem emerges because not all classes have access to as many hard counters, making the classes that do much more prevalent.

Also, by allowing players to quickly toggle between builds in reaction to the battle, you remove the opportunity cost of having chosen one build.. you decrease the strategic elements involved in making a build.

there’s a bunch of other issues related to it but this has been discussed quite thoroughly in countless threads before.

thief is a different story, personally i think the burst and stealth potential is out of balance with the rest of the classes. mind you not OP just not balanced.

No its legit name,
The guilds its referring to are the PvE aspect of the game.
Vigil, Order of Whispers, Priory
PvP is nothing but a tiny fraction of the game, not heavily emphasized, that’s how most MMORPG’s balance it out, PvP 5%, PvE 95%, this game however has WvW, so I’d say 5% WvW, 90% PvE.

Just have to give it time for the game to build up to the guild wars.
We are going to go to war with Slyvari, so if you playing Slyvari your going to have a lot of enemies and there’s not going to be many safe zones for you in PvE.

Unless of course, you build up your faction by killing centaurs, Clan Crushbone orcs, bandits, Blackburrow gnolls, pirates, etc.

Enjoy being kos to mostly everyone if your playing a Slyvari.

good point i always forget to consider the pve side of the game. but then shouldnt it be called Order Wars? ;P

and if the rest of that is true then i cant wait! wish i had a better slyvari worked up then my ranger. might have to work on another class or wait for the new one. and excuse my pve ignorance here, but whats the point of killing that stuff?

I do not see how this would negatively affect roamers.

Maybe they are worried people will be able to switch out of their zerg builds before the encounters and actually put up a fight in 1 v 1’s. Personally I run my WvW roaming build in all PvE so this wouldn’t really effect me but I still feel it is a feature that should be in every game mode.
