Well, there will obviously be no real content provided until they release the expansion-in any game mode of GW2. Then I look back at what GW2 PvP has been and it is really laughable. Skyhammer. MMR. Soloq. And Anet wants me to spend money for a product that is still in testing?

Skyhammer-immediate negative feedback in the competitive scene. Anet takes it out of team play and FORCES it on the solo players…for months. I quit playing GW2 entirely until it was able to be voted out of play for Soloq. #kittenyouanet

MMR. In keeping with the Arenanet way of “I will do what I want to do, I will tell you nothing, and I will be absolutely shocked at the poor results when I release another piece of broken content”, MMR is still being in the works. Before the death of Soloq, it had been fixed. The problem was the “I am listening to what you are saying” posts were absolutely kittening worthless and in no way addressed changes to the problems or anything they were thinking about in how to tackle a problem. Originally matchmaking had been hard broken. Anet had the info and would not share it with the community and it delayed development. This is on Anet only. As they released more information the community did Anets QA job for them by cross-referencing matchups and leaderboards. I was a contributor, posting regularly until I was completely ignored. I posted pictures and my posts got deleted. Not surprisingly, I no longer try to help as I am not only ignored but deleted as if now Anet has a perfect track record since it isn’t in the forums. It wasn’t just me, it was many others. Soloq. We had as a community argued for this for a LOOOOOOONG time. So of course Anet would take it away. Why not? I mean, this is only to save on consolidating queue time and occurred around the same time of PVE megaservers. And you will see it when HoT is released-trust me.

I will not be buying anything from Anet until they at a bare minimum get Soloq back. I will continue to not PvP because it is a waste of time going against premades as an individual. Not just premades, but being paired up with complete noobs. But then again Anet has really done a bang up job protecting and teaching new people how to pvp…I mean they have that one PvP tutorial on how to finish someone-that’s something right? Oh wait, those custom arena’s are doing the job of teaching people how to play. I bought the original game for competitive PvP content which has never been provided. You do not PvP in a range near your skill level because of the combined queue and pairing of noobs with experienced PvPers. Justin O’Dell, “I should note the current leaderboards are ranked by your Glicko2 skill rating, not the number of games you played. I hope with this change players will be able to settle into their accurate skill range relatively quickly by providing matches that are more fair.”

Tyler Chapman wrote, “We are definitely aware of the issues surrounding PvP. We’ve been generating data since we released these features and I think it’s fair to say that each will be visited by us as soon as we can get around to it. L2PvP Anet. I mean seriously, you had a handful of PvP team members in a large AAA company and come up with this 3 years after release and you expect people to pay for something with real money? I will say that reward tracks and gold for PvP are good…but why would I eat a nice filet of meat that was dropped into a flaming bag of kitten that is the the matchmaking in the current sPvP ranked scene? No new maps or game modes will fix this. Catch a freaking clue. #GW2esports

10/10. As much as I love the game, and I owe it to the developers that made it…They failed to update it properly. The basics of marketing success is to make your clients happy and listen to what they are complaining/asking for, they failed to do both and are constantly ignoring us.

My advice to you, Anet, is to look at other company’s success’ and see why they succeeded (look at the league of legends staff for example and how they quickly react to any exploits or imbalances in their game.)

Stronghold is cool and all, but it doesn’t have the factor that would “shut us up.” The game is still heavily unbalanced, the lower-tier pvpers and solo qers are being driven away from PvP due to the constant exploits of turret engineers/power necros/mindless gameplay, the leaderboards are broken, match making is terrible, the community is rather quickly dying off, and the list goes on.

I really see no reason to buy HoT as I’ve seen no initiative to buy this game as you are introducing even more specialization and complication to the balance of the game yet no reply to the current unbalances. This will only make it harder for you…and judging by the experience I had with you, Anet, you will continue ignoring the balances and perhaps add little shaves for us to be quiet until the next 6 months to go (which is clearly not working as intended, eh?).

The clock is ticking Anet, expansion is really your last chance to get more players hooked to this game.. and ignoring us will not work anymore.

I think I’m more disappointed in the lack of balance that this game has. Right now it’s clear Engineers are the clear favorite, if you run 3 turret engis in a match against a bunch of pugs which is technically the leaderboard right now, you’ll win 90% of the matches.

It’s frustrating because of the lack off effort of any person that plays that build, and the amount of effort it takes to beat it only to have the guy respawn 15s later to repeat the same process.

I think it’s ridiculous that even if you get a high MMR A-net has decided that you’ll have to carry a bunch of noobs to victory, and against any decent team 1 person can not carry the whole team even if they were Five Gauge (I’ve seen him carry on his stream, but even to a point he can’t save every team).

This game is not only broken in pvp, but broken in PvE. I can’t count the number of exploits, and honestly the RNG is a little bit garbage considering I’ve gotten 3 Fractal weapons in ~400 runs (that’s less than .01% by the way).

So yeah I don’t expect HoT to be that great, and I’m sure Revnant will be OP for the first couple of months until A-net decides to balance that or makes enough money from the x-pac.

Feedback is weak from the dev side.
Class favorites always the same. Engi warrior ele thief. Balnce updates is whack. And the list goes on and on

Let me remind You that pvp is not AN’s #1 priority. Money talks and looks like pve gives much more of it than pvp. You can judge it yourself by looking at the amount of content they did for pvp vs pve.

If only … then maybe this game would actually be in good condition, rather than the polar opposite. :l

Instead their reaction is to disregard, infract, and ignore players who are superior to them in terms of gameplay and understanding of their own game. Because ego, I guess? They seriously have some kind of superiority complex going on as far as I can tell. I hate them openly on the premises they sold me a game based on hype and lies. XD

I’m not buying HoT, I too agree with OP and also give this thread a 10/10. Hopefully it’s not so well written that it threatens the great Anet’s ego and gets infracted or removed. :l

I did quit once after fractals and now I’m back for like two weeks. As more of a PvPer it seems very much the same as at the launch. Ok its worse. Different objective maps, some really weird that noone wants to play, havnt noticed any changes to those maps, lack of real balancing, stronghold – another bad pvp map because players vs npc aint much pvp. But at least they are trying. And the best part – one new class. Lol. We dont know how many skills will specs bring but even gw 1 had two classes in an expansion.

I might stay around to lrn more about the expansion, I like conquest maps but not carring is still bad. I found a game that might get released next year where actually devs listen a lot and try things based on the community ideas. That “dev care” alone will get me to play that game over this. Even tho I want to love GW 2 as I like guild wars 1. But Anet seems to go more for money than players. Even tho listening well to players gets you money as well.

The other game I did recommend cause of devs, about GW 2 I usualy say “if you grind over and over – fractals, and you want devs that do not care, it is a game for you” I told them ofc more about GW 2 but even with the discount it is not as interesting as the other game in alpha. I wont name the game btw cause I would like to see gw2 do well. But that is pve only probably because pvp crowd seems to be as important for anet as garbage.

You don’t to buy HOt if you are pvp focus. The only thing you will miss out on is the specialization, stronghold will be a free update for everyone.

Guild wars 2 is a PvE with great theoretical PvP systems but it will always be a PvE game, PvP ship has sailed.

So hot is a PvE update and I doubt arena net cares if PvP bought it since their PvE audience will.

I agree with a lot of the above posts. But I have a group of friends in both PvE and PvP where I can just shoot the kitten with until things get a bit more tolerable to take the game seriously.

But the tittle raises a pretty fair question. Unless you can only play stronghold with the expansion, and that’s even presuming you like the map.. What point is there for a core pvper to play HoT?

Frankly the 20ish (being generious) viable specs being rotated around extreme gimmicks and counters need to be brought more in line with eachother before expanding. HoT needs to have significant changes in this area to make it even worth gettin for a core pvper.

But even then! Such a state of game should have been achieved a year ago and refined up till now. Although I like expanded class content it’s coming before its time and everything preceding it has not been finished. Hell reoccurring class related bugs haven’t even been fixed and we’re expanding to more things to break?

But I don’t think A-net should be taking advice from magic the gathering… To many concepts like “random is fun” don’t fit in any game requiring any level of APM. Sure it’s fun for casual play but making it a core part of the game is like nintendo having “Sm4sh” with items on in “for glory”. -_-

What a company “should” have done is a meaningless statement, it doesn’t change anything. It can only be used as a case study.

I agree.

Stronghold looks OKish, it’s for sure better than Conquest but that’s really easy to achieve.

Regarding PvP, the expansion only includes this map and the specializations which might not even be relevant because of game-balance.

Revenant is going to mean a huge imbalance for sure (either too strong or too weak) and now that we know how Anet works it’s going to take more than year to fix.

None of the current problems will be fixed.
1) No real soloqueue
2) Dependance of 4 more players because 5v5 is esports
3) No real way to tell the skill/impact of an individual player
4) No goals/No reason to tryhard the ladder
5) No build diversity

tldr; Stronghold is good but the expansion needs way too many features to revive PvP
