Probably not because anet won’t balance around the new game mode. Stronghold is such a flop its not even funny. Just a bunch of minion mancer and aoe spam.

I want something different from the controlled PvP. Something different from the 5v5 arena matches.
I would like some 10 vs 10, or 20 vs 20 like Battlefront with objectives of multiple kinds and longer battle times.
WvW just isnt cutting it for me, due to so much PvD and the zerg is too hard hitting now without healers.
I would like something in the middle of controlled group, and larger group sizes than 5v5 and with objectives of both offense and defense.
I’d love some new modes like that. The 5v5 Conquest mode is getting pretty stale to me. We can only hope that Anet will put in some new sPvP modes. I guess the problem is making sure that enough players are available, to play the modes, given that the GW2 playerbase is spread out across PvE, WvW and PvP.
Unfortunately it seems like it would be difficult. Stronghold ultimately isn’t terribly popular due to the fact that it is VERY easy to stack a specific comp and guarantee a win if your fighting as a premade. If your solo queing then again the comb can be just as important. Two tempests in your offensive lane makes your bomb throwers near immortal. A pair of reapers guarantees you can stop the enemy team from capping mists and guarantee your own cap (corrupt boon + plague form) unless they have a pair of reapers of there own to counter it.
Almost the same thing happened in the death match game mode. Specific comps made it incredibly easy to farm wins. And not having those comps reduced your odds of succeeding massively. Deathmatch was also INCREDIBLY prone to snowballing due to the lack of secondary mechanics.
So what we need is a game mode that encourages spreading people out except for specific objectives. Doesn’t favor one specific toolset over others more than a minor amount. Encourages attempting multiple methods to achieve similar results. And has swing mechanics that can enable a losing team to recover without being the sole purpose of the map.
ATM the one that gets the closest is conquest. Though I once suggested Assault style maps (trading between defending and attacking sides to defend a location that had multiple potential entrances and layers of defenses to give various locations of advantage,disadvantage based on your composition)
Lol yeah I’ll really be down for something in between spvp and wvw. I really want to come back to GW2 and once again tell Anet to “Shut up and take my money” but sPvP is just boring because there is no rooms to innovate and be special and competitive at the same time. WvW has devolved into the player bases of GW2s just switching and stacking the server with the most “coverage” already. And PvE is just not interesting in GW2 anymore. Add all that and the fact that GW2 has one of the lowest “player skill in MMOs to win, just need gimmicks to be successful”
So till Anet either comes out with GW3 or GW2 get some interesting player vs player action, I will continue to throw time and money at other devs teams that are not really good but for whats out in the market for MMOs is fun and exciting gameplay, day in and day out.
But at least I admit it!

Yes. We have Stronghold with first expansion, after more than 3 years since first release. We will have new type of sPvP again. History tends to repeat itself, and business needs to evolve. So yes, we will get a new type of sPvP.
I personally want a “build your character” or “level up your character” type of arena, similiar to Moba.
I think progression is half the reason why players like moba. The huge plus for gw2 is that the combat system is better in many areas. There may be quite a few roadblocks (class balances from low level vs high level, for example) to make this happen but I think Stronghold could be just that, a progression map rather than Conquest.
