tl; dr
how do you kill a reaper?

long winded version:
unlike d/d celele, reaper is not that hard to play, for me, at least, so when i was playing reaper, i hardly get put down in 1 v 1 situations, only when 1 v 2 or 1 v 3 and i try to face tank everything then i get put down.

both in hotjoin and in the few unranked matches i have over the week. btw, does gw2 efficiency latest matches only show unranked or ranked matches now? or it always has shown unranked or ranked matches, never hotjoin?

anyway, i have been trying out reaper in unranked while attempting pvp guild missions with my guild members and i just realized that i / we won 6 out of the 9 matches while i was playing reaper. see attached image.

on the few matches that i / we lost, i seem to recall having trouble with a chronomancer, it took me quite a while to drain his / her health and if i’m lucky, i will be able to down the chrono before any of the three dragon hunters come and instagib me as my reaper was sort of heavily wounded after fighting with the good chrono.

so anyway, yesterday, i decided to take my dust gathering berserker out of the character selection menu to have some fun in hotjoin, clicked the “play now” button and landed in a room with a single necromancer on the other team, no one else, so i join the other team and then we proceed with a 1 v 1.

i tried engaging the necro, turns out to be a reaper, died a few times and then i got tired of fighting the reaper and went to cap some points instead. the reaper said in map chat he does not like a running game and left. so i stayed until the team score hits 500 for the miserable 15 silvers and some reward tracks progression, then i went back to the character selection screen to get my scrapper.

then i proceed to check which hotjoin room that reaper went (i added that reaper to friends list so can check location) then viola, found the reaper.

saw the reaper alone, fighting chieftain. then i rushed the reaper, attempting to 1 v 1 the reaper with my scrapper (rifle + flamethrower + hgh + bunker down + adapative armor + knights amulet + durability rune) well it didn’t go too well.

i missed my throw elixir x, turned chieftain into moa instead as the reaper closed in melee range to gut me.

i gulp down all elixirs, drank elixir x, got tornado, not good.
then i think my 9+ month woke up and i gotta stop.

anyway, it was then i realized, i haven’t really put down reapers in 1 v 1 situations before, only when ganging up on them.

then i recalled, while i was playing reaper (tried out 3 combinations, reaper+soul reaper + death/blood/spite) myself, i also realized i cannot really put down other reapers in 1 v 1 situations, it sort of became a stale mate.

so, here i am, in the forums, asking for advice, what actually puts down a reaper?

Condition Revenant only if condition built, nothing power wise unless you are allowed to kite but that won’t happen with points involved.

ah yes! conditions! i do recall my reaper dying after being bombarded with too many conditions! even with soldiers rune, my reaper can only remove up to 6 or 7 conditions by using up all shouts. well, offhand dagger can remove another 3 and staff 4 can remove another 3 though. maybe i should try out death spec again since there’s a trait while being in shroud removes 1 condition per 3 seconds.

so if power based damage, need to kite and keep a safe distance right?

just now, i had a quick match in hotjoin, i joined the losing team as it was 5 v 4 and the game seems like ending soon with 400+ and i wanted to clear todays dailies (pvp capture, pvp kills) quickly.

i hopped in with my scrapper, then fought this reaper.

perhaps the player was still learning how to play reaper, or perhaps because the match was ending and that reaper was not being really serious, anyway, i kept my distance, successfully tossed elixir x to end reaper shroud and the reaper was kinda down after a while. well, the way that reaper fought, maybe he was still practicing.

play a better engineer build and practice the class more. reaper is sooooo doable on scrapper.

could you share your engi build a bit?

i’m sort of comfy with my current engineer build though.
i dun think i can play other engi builds properly after spending so much time on this personal build.

hmmm i prefer knights scrapper though.
cele scrapper, i can’t seem to tank well enough.

build requires a lot of combos and kit rotation. I did a lot of testing though, and its for sure the best scrapper build I’ve found. sustain is insane if you play it well. hit me up if you’re on NA. I’m getting home from work soon, so I can teach you tricks in TS if ya feel ya need em. build is baller tho, so much better than the meta build for scrapper.

On ranger/druid i win most 1v1s by kiting, using my stealth and mobility just after or when they use gab closing skills. Imob them and keep kiting them. Fighting on point is more difficult, though i can keep the point neutral.

hmmm yeah while i was practicing with my reaper, i came across this one druid that i cannot seem to put down. he lost their temple home point though. the game ended when we were fighting downstairs to try to commune tranQ and i kept on fighting before the room kicked us out, trying to down that druid.

nope. not happening.

well if at least 2 or 3 people with really good burst damage, condition damage, cc etc yes my reaper will die. in 1 v 1 situations, very less likely though unless i was not paying attention. well, i really enjoy tanking / sustaining as reaper so i hope they dun gut it too much after 6 months.

yeah, on my scrapper, a nicely tossed moa on their reaper shroud does the trick nicely. i’m not really a thief player so i’ll pass on that.

ah yes! thanks! i recall being immobilized as a reaper greatly decreased my damage potential as well as tanking / sustaining ability.

nah, reapers can die, just kinda hard in 1 v 1. in 1 v 2 or 1 v 3 reapers will die eventually as they cannot really disengage well.

my reaper has no problem 1 v 1 dragon hunters though. well, maybe at least those not very good ones. i can face tank most of their traps and still put down the dragon hunter or make them run away.

well, i use all 5 shouts and then soldier runes for condition removal.

reapers are very strong in close 1vs1 fight. You may need mobility against them.

Seasons don’t fear the reaper. Nor do the wind, sun or the rain. We can be like they are. Outside spvp where balance is not an issue.
