Let me start by congratulation ArenaNet for making such comprehensive game but with such a personal feel to it. You guys really are the best.

Now onto my suggestion(s), they have been sitting in my head a while now, and I think it’s about time I share it with you all.

My first suggestion: add filters and options when picking up loot
Details: In the options menu and/or the loot pickup screen – there are a set of options that allow players to customize what they pick up.
For example – I want to go weapon hunting for a few hours, but I don’t want to pick/show anything else up. I go into the loot settings, tick a few boxes (in this case it would be weapons) and then the loot screen would only show weapon drops.
Why? It would streamline and optimize loot pickup

I have attached a proposed screenshot of the idea.

The black arrows represent where the options/filters button would be located. When clicked on, a screen showing the ‘Loot options’ pops up.
The player can then change filters to show/hide certain items. Items that do not meet the filters are not shown.

Note that items that are higher than the filters are automatically picked up
Note that options that are left blank automatically include all those within their category

A – Crafting materials filter.
Type: This is the type of material (ores, wood etc)
Level: Level of the crafting material
Profession: Allows the player to choose profession specific items to be shown (cook, jeweler etc)

B – Weapons filter
Type: Type of weapon (sword, daggers etc)
Level: Level of the weapon
Rarity: Rarity of the weapon (fine, masterwork, rare etc)

C – Armor filter
Type: Piece of armor (helm, shoulders etc)
Level: Level of the piece
Rarity: Rarity of the piece (fine, masterwork, etc)

Miscellaneous items
Trophies (scale, pebble, fin etc)
Other (dyes, stash items such as loot bags etc)

My second suggestion
Incorporate a co-ordinates system into the game. I think this would be beneficial to all players because it allows players to meet up at specific locations, not just way points. A player might come across a particularly plentiful node of resources, or just mobs and instead of noting the closest waypoint, writes down the co-ordinates of that area. This is also beneficial in world/group events, a player needs to simply type the coordinates and players can make their own way there.

Who in their right mind doesn’t pick up everything? That’s free money. Why would you not want free money?

My guess is the OP is farming events with MF gear. That tends to get you a lot of armor and weaponry, which fills up your inventory quite fast if you’re doing multiple events without going to an NPC to sell it. And generally speaking the gear tends to NPC for more than you would get from salvaging a few pieces of leather or so.

Though to me that just seems like trying to find a free work-around instead of buying bigger bags and the expansion. You gotta be doing a lot of stuff to fill up the maximum of 120 inventory slots.

Heck, I run around with 52 and I rarely find myself in the 40s.

But I suppose it depends on the person. Some like carrying around two or three different armor sets, a ton of weapons, a ton of mining equipment and then some WvW stuff. But if you ask me, if you’re carrying around all this “What If?” stuff, you really do not have any right to complain about lack of inventory space.

Not really, my main account is only level 38 and I’m not complaining about inventory space.. I just want an option to “hide” some of the lower level drops you commonly get, and the trophies that I always accidentally pick up

No, see, you’re doing it wrong. You’re going to be one of those guys who comes here later complaining that the trivial cost of waypoints is somehow bankrupting them.

Pick up everything. Sell everything. There’s no such thing as a drop you don’t want. If it’s worth more than vendor price sell it on the TP, which you can do from anywhere by pressing O. If it’s not worth more than vendor price, sell it to the vendor.

If you don’t do that you are choosing to be broke. You’re only 38 now. Wait until you’re 80 and the armor you want costs you 12g for a set. You’ll wish you’d sold all those vendor trash items (trophies) then.

Sorry, that system sounds overly complicated while at the same time, I don’t see many players using it to its fullest. It sounds like it’s designed to help with a very specific scenario in a very complicated way.

Counter-suggestion: In the inventory, add a button “destroy all trash” that destroys all grey items. Invisible bags excluded.

This would far simpler, much more easy to understand and at the same time, it would also help you to keep your inventory clean for higher-value drops.

hmm. Good advice then.

That’s fine reasoning in terms of just desserts, however I’d like to point out that a Guild Wars which takes into account a player’s “what if?” apprehensions by allowing them to hot-switch into different favourite armour sets and builds would be one that massive alleviates the boredom a number of players have in this game.

Ah, I can only dream, can’t I?

And yes, I agree, this system doesn’t fit in with ANet’s philosophy of elegant design, or their belief that all drops should fit some purpose for the player. It would make far more sense in a more classic, more simulationary MMO where drops can only be looted by a single player!
