I thought I saw a post a while ago by Devon indicating they may be adding some mechanism for dedicated WvWers to get their ascended back piece. has their been any movement on this or is this still just a pipe dream?

I saw that post too. But they did not implement that yet. I don’t understand the issue though. Just give the laurel merchant an additional tab with back pieces for laurels and badges and we’re done. The impact of a back piece on the stats is anyway not that big of a deal, but can be the last missing part of completing one’s armor set.

If the delay is in the skin design of the backpieces, then I would simply give them no skin, or a WvW flag thingy skin. Hell, I’d even go with capes like in GW1, where you could show off your guild symbol :P

Lets hope that they live up to the promise they made nearly a year ago. I cannot imagine why it’s taken so long to add a simple vial of essence as a reward to be purchased in wvw.

I thought completing the wvw meta achievement got you parts to create an ascended backpiece? IIRC that is how it is going to work.

I agree.. this is 1 line of code to be added to a vendor. Not some massive undertaking. There’s no rationale against it. ….and I guess none provided here either…. but whatever we’re getting used to that I suppose.

(well they are … I’m shopping around for a more rewarding organized PvP experience myself at the moment so I don’t really care how long it takes at this point)

Sounds to me more like they will be adding it in some type of pve content other than fractals. Especially considering this “not necessarily a WvW focused solution..” and that is kind of ridiculous considering this has been a almost a year long thing where the majority of wvw players would be much happier if they just added it to the laurel vendor and had done with it.

I like to farm for months, and I have 6 level 80s atm. It gives me something else to do, and helps me avoid burnout. Plus, it really is a good time killer when I am in a 2 to 3 hour queue on reset night.

Since it’s not been available in PvE for over a year, relatively speaking that’ll mean a 100 year wait for a WvW friendly alternative.

If you don’t want to put in the work for an ascended backpiece, then don’t and stick with exotic. It’s not a huge boost in stats, but if you want it, it’s already not that hard to get.

Making people craft is just unacceptable in a modern MMO.

This, so much this. I hate crafting. I only bothered making ascended weapons because I don’t have the option to just buy them from someone of the TP. Why Anet, why account bound? There’s no reason for it. Make all ascended items sellable on the TP. Crafting is excruciatingly boring, i’d rather grind for gold and buy it.

Its the same with the asc weapons. You are forced to do pve or run with weaker stats then a pve opponent in wvw. If i wanted to pve i wouldn’t be in wvw, i would run dungeons or champtrains.

Oh right, you mean you’ll need to farm PvE for gold for ectos AND dailies for laurels. Yep I don’t think so. By the beginning of the new year WvW will be so unbalanced it isn’t worth playing anymore (not that it is now).

Anet wants you to craft so that you have to buy gems. Ascended gear is a real cash bonanza for them. Its the sort of thing I expect in a F2play game.

Look at the accessories. 50 ectos to buy one. Its pretty obvious what is going on.

I get it, I’m a wvw player too. But you’re arguing over a 1% increase in stats, maybe 2% at most, and that is assuming they have the stat set up you want. I got the piece needed to make the ascended back in the mystic forge by entering fractals solo until I got the grawl fractal, killing them all, and eventually getting the drop needed. It wasn’t that hard. So if you want it, do it, if not, it’s not that much work. Theyve said over and over that wvw isn’t an exclusive game mode.

Or push you to do fractals.

Bottom line ascended never should have been introduced with gated content, but we’ve been down this conversation 9-10 months ago.

It’s not about the grind, it’s about having the feeling that you actually had to do something to create an ascended item.
In other games, uncommon items are already kinda rarish. If you manage to get a rare drop, you get super happy and you almost lose your soul cause of all the excitement if you get the super rare (exotic) drop. In gw2 you’ll be disappointed if you only get masterwork items as drops. Rare equips are seen as globs of ectoplasm and most exotics are “just 1 more gold”.
If you ask me, gw2 needs an item category that is hard to get so players can actually put some effort into getting an item they want to get. With that i don’t mean mindless cham-farming (economy pooper) but doing something more specific.

Take the accessories for an example:
You can get ascended rings and back items by doing fractals,
You can get ascended earrings by doing guild missions,
You can get ascended necklaces(or other ascended items with an utility slot) by doing dailies/monthlies.

We’ve already spend over a year waiting for runes to be available in WvW. A bunch of them are still restricted to dungeons. Ascended backslot is just another item on the list.

Talking frankly, I am a 100% MvM player and till some weeks ago I was able to get the ascended items (by means of gold and laurels).
Since you changed the rules I am stucked in my progression ( I did not ask for it btw).

Also – i gave an example with accessories where 1/3 can be done in wvw as well. And guild missions aren’t really PvE. If anything it’s competitive play where players has to work together in other to do something.

I am fine with them not being any special. I am also fine to keep them fractal related, but anet decided otherwise.
But if they do keep them for WvW, there should be more than a very random chance to get them there.

Please don’t spend any time on making this back piece look nice. That will a) allow people who got their back piece through fractals to feel like they still got something worthwhile, b) allow us to make use of that pile of back piece skins gathering dust in our banks, c) hopefully speed up the release timeframe.

actually, i took some time to think about this – there are 2 hooks to the game – one of the time you invest into your character ….will make it hard to leave the game ……the 2nd hook is to take a short cut and just buy everything – but then you would have invested into the game and wouldn’t want to leave. The only solution is to not care to break those chains and hooks.

It also seems that the wvw community is infact the bigger voice because they are the ones that have to invest the most time/ effort / money to have any diversity -
