Just wanted to take some time to thank the devs for all the work they have put into WvW as a gamemode since launch and look forward to the changes in the future. Some people haven’t been around long and don’t know what all was there from the start and what has be added. Feel free to add any I may have missed.

Another rather major thing that was mainly for WvW: Removal of culling.
im also sure the AoE limitation to 5 targets for most skills was mostly coz of WvWvW

Commander UI (though it’s delayed)

They probably aren’t quite as good as the WvW one as they don’t get as much of my attention :P. Making these brings back memories so it’s fun to remissness and be reminded of how far this game has come in 3 years.

Control Points in the Borderlands
Here is my list.
Things added that players requested and wanted:
- Commander tag colors (which we had to fight with tooth and nail to keep Anet from being over the top greedy with pricing)
Things added/changed with little to no regard of the WvW community or WvW balance:

3 years and we can think of less than 20 things, and many of those what seem to be more minor or easier changes, a few that one could argue made things worse….hmmmm.
I’d assume the PvE changes would number well into the hundreds. Not that i’m knocking that, this was mostly a PvE game.
Just find it interesting so little has been done in 3 years for a touted game-play mode (WvW).

So little done? How much do you think they should have done in 3 years? When I bought the game I expected it to be like other games, you but it and they just fix bugs, no new content or changes to improve the game mode.

One of their events was quite a success (PPK) so much that people wanted it to become permanent. OS and EotM both apply to WvW, OS took people that were having fun doing the jumping puzzle out of the EB map so more who wanted to play WvW could. Also made a zone for dueling and GvG (though most don’t use it). EotM took a lot of the uplevels out of WvW and reduced the map ques for higher populated servers.
Shame some people don’t understand the time put into some of these changes and the impact they made on the game mode. Can you not honestly say WvW has improved?

The only improvements have been the fix to culling (bug fix) and the population cap ( fixing what they broke by creating creating tournaments and leaving transfers free for so long).
The removal of the orb and the addition of bloodlust ruins were implimented because it was easier than dealing with hacking. It was supposed to be a temporary fix but instead they decided to just let hackers run rampant for years.
The OS arena was created to pacify the outrage caused when an anet employee was recorded trolling a GvG.
The stability change created the boring pirate ship meta.
Superior siege and WvW ranks led to power creep and now they are going to remove guard stacks which will once again screw with everyones builds forcing them to buy new armor. However they are leaving in the ridiculous golem mastery because for some reason omega golems weren’t quite powerful enough in their eyes.
I was thinking of making a post like this myself. I get tired of so many people regurgitating the hyperbole of WvW is always neglected.
I don’t think I saw adding different armor and weapon stats purchasable with badges (although not all and not updated), able to get skins with badges (although just karma skins). Post HoT, being able to salvage WvW gear.
I’m pretty sure the sentries always existed, just not the new ones in the BL ruins.
Also, the stablility changes should be removed from this list. That was made soley for the purpose of new HoT bosses. It had nothing to do with WvW.

Dead player tags been changed from red to grey – major improvement
Respawn timer of 5min been added – No more 1hr+ dead mesmer body camping
Party option fix – This was broken 18 months since release
And some more things i cant recall at this very moment.
Edit: found another one. Back in days wvw players would be kicked from WvW whenever a patch was upcoming, could take up hours upon hours
Reset time used to be around 1AM at night, changed to 7pm ( CET im talking about )
Introduction of Righteous Indignation buff, also been nerfed later from 300% to 100% dmg if i remember correctly.

I understand what you are saying, but at the same time when you put things like added sentries on your list of massive time consuming changes it is hard not to laugh.

It’s gotten worse in more ways than it got better.
Big ways it got worse:
-WXP (needless power creep, rewards higher tier servers over smaller ones)
-Edge of the Mist (I understand people in tier 1 think it’s fantastic but kitten you tier 1, it ain’t all about you)
-removal of the best WvW map
-achievements stayed broken even after they started giving cash and gems for them
-every other game mode got fancy skins by the truckload
-ascended gear added
-every other game mode got more profitable at a faster rate
Big ways it got better:
-no culling (okay, this was fantastic)
-transfer costs (3 years later something that was obvious to everyone day one)
-able to kick people from party (hey, basic functionality in the game only 18 months after launch!)
Other things:
-tournaments were good but didn’t last long
Best WvW was before ascended gear. Many changes have been making WvW worse. At best, most of the changes have been things you just learn to live with and ignore (like ruins).
you forgot some terrible changes that pretty much destroyed the old WvW 2 months into live:
- buffed AC damage against players and lowered against other siege
- decreased gate health
- removed projectile block by player skills
later they also:
- capped AOE damage targets
Then came WvW-masteries which among other things:
- buffed ram damage
- buffed AC damage again
-> these changes are among the main culprits for the disgusting blob-ktrain wvw is mostly today.
Wow look at all that “content”!
And it only took them 3 years to do it!
I am so impressed with the way they have given so much to WvW, I am going to buy the most expensive version of HoT to say thank you as well!

I never said all the changes were big time consuming changes, some are some aren’t. I also never said all of these changes are for the better. Overall I would say WvW is better but if you don’t feel that way then I can only imagine it will get worse before it get’s better for you, sorry.

Red keep has also been altered about a year ago, the Vista is now in the keep and not on the Lion statue anymore.

Yeah because people were using that spot to leap in.
Bug fixes, changes made for other game modes, and repairing broken spots in the map really shouldn’t count as ”changes to WvW”

PvE would dwarf both WvW and SPvP. Yes they have done some changes over three years, now if they could stop forcing us into PvE that would be great. They ar supposedly going to focus on WvW once HoT is out and running up to par, so lets just wait and see, hopefully they are sincere and work with us and ask for our input to make WvW the best it can possibly be.

Over the 3 years since release WvW has seen changes:
While it has had some changes, most have had very little follow up/follow through, and some which were stated as working as intended, were changed.
- orb of power removed due to frustrating hacking
Anet stated they would add back in, and never did.
- EotM (although not really a favorite of WvWers but was created by the ‘WvW team’ just a interesting choice of design)
EOTM has been very disliked, and nothing was changed for the community, and it became nothing more then another way to level characters with karma training.
- siegrazer events when you don’t control any objective (highly underutilized)
Granted a nice addition, but at the onset and to this day little has been fixed so it does more then just give a 5-10minute head start to a server with no objectives. (The ram has no mastery skills on it, bubbles go down quickly, the npc is easy to kill, ect…
- WvW ranks (and the tweaks to them)
Added, some, but could add more.
- Few spots on the map have been tweaked to get rid of players being able to glitch into objectives when no walls or gates were down (one I remember is Quintin Lake use to have a bridge)
Add in some terrain changes like Garrison which used to be able to treb bay. Though with that they have done nothing to nix “spawn” trebs in invulnerable spots form being built still.
- Different siege models/projectiles for holidays (launching presents with a catapult is fun)
Changed 1st holidays, though last years holidays (like halloween) were forgotten by catapults and so on, as before they had sent pumpkins flying, ect…
- New population calculations
Yet still the populations can be manipulated as some servers are currently doing.
- Commander tag colors
Also changed it to be account wide, not just the character you bought it for.
- New borderlands map with more ‘unique’ feeling towers instead of just ‘copy paste’ style towers
Yet a lot of added PvE against what the wvw community majority was asking for.
- Squad UI
Buggy, and GW2 players were unable to test it, however from what was stated by Anet it could really use fine tuning.
Add in:
-Elementalist Swirling winds blocking treb/cata shots.
ANet had stated originally that the skill was working as intended, then changed the skill to no longer block siege shots.
-AC’s being changed for defending/attacking
-LoS changes
-Bugged hills keep which has yet to be fixed
While there have been many good changes, there have also been a few instances of Anet not keeping their word, not following through, and not keeping up with the wvw community.
some of those listed are game core changes, nothing to do with wvw.
Stacking sigils were changed to give five stacks per player kill (might be the same in pvp, no idea).
I think both the past and future lists are underwhelming. Siege skins and enabling salvage on badge gear. Meh, doesn’t seem very AAA title like to have that as some kind of big deal.
Some of these changes are bug fixes (map glitches) and minor changes (commander tag colors and champ bags), btw I totally love not having valid paths to target >.>. Some are general changes to GW2 and trickled into WvWvW just like dire stats, perplexity and trapper runes, stability changes birthing pirate shipping and other results of design choices geared at the sPvP and PvE crowd . Not to mention the ever present non-communication. Yeah WvWvW has seen some good changes but the end result is that the mode is in the toilet and that says a lot.

This is indeed an sPvP thing, WvW got it as well.
Anyway, yes, WvW has seen changes – some great, some good, some not so good and some pretty bad.
It still wont change fact that a kittened idea is a kittened idea. Some of their sligthly less than kittened ideas could be argued, but when they go full kitten? Nope. Cant defend that no matter how much good they done before.
