So most likely a glass cannon Warrior which is the worst PVP build for a Warrior…
A Guardian that’s trying to be a damage class… Worst build for a Guardian..
An AFK Elementalist…

Sorry if a thief won all 3 of those fights I would wager that the 3 people that got beat showed up on a short bus.

Bunker guardian = Dead Thief
Shout Heal Warrior = Dead Thief
DD Ele = Dead Thief

Or the thief uses stealth and runs away. Hate to break it to you, but C&D thief is a gimmick build and if you can count to 4 you can beat them. Why 4? because that’s how long stealth on C&D lasts before they have to use it again. If they use it to soon it doesn’t work. If they use it to late they appear. C&D owns nubs and that’s the long and short of it.

We had 20 guys trying to 1 thief from destroying all the siege. But they kept on hitting the siege to gain stealth. So basically thieves can run around attacking walls and siege and stealthing off that. cool trick >:(

also the culling bug is still there with thieves. Some thief just went invis to do the finishing move on me and didn’t come out of stealth once he/she did it. sigh.

Dealing damage breaks stealth. Finishing move doesn’t do damage.

Because stealth is over powered in and of itself. We / our military doesn’t spend 100’s of $billions on stealth and counter stealth technology because it’s NOT and advantage. Same applies to games. You can not effectively fight what you can not see.

Stealth in any PvP game where things are supposed to be " fair " or " balanced " is a total oxymoron.

The class doesn’t need a nerf the game needs fixing. It’s slow loading/rendering/culling w/e you wish to call it that’s causing this. That being said you can still kill invisible people.

AoE will eat a glass thief alive. Use knockdowns. Use CC.

Stop running glass cannon specs. Half of the BS thieves I know will just walk off if their backstab doesn’t hit for 5k+. If you’re facing a P/D thief that’s a bit different, but thieves in general just prey on the weak. That’s what we’re good at.

If 20 players can’t be bothered to use CC’s on a thief, they deserve to get trolled.

TIP: You can still Dmg/CC a thief while they’re in stealth.

Thieves give me trouble on my mesmer because my most efficient means of stopping them is confusion, and my shatters.

I need practice baiting their Rune of Lyssa, It’s pretty much the primary reason I get screwed.

Anyone who has ever played a thief knows how to counter a thief. That’s why.

We could just as easily say…“Go spend a few hours in sPvP on a thief and stop failing at life!” Instead we’ll just say..“No, we’re not OP you just can’t/won’t counter us.”

Most thieves I run into flee when they figure out i have 30k health 2.2k toughness and enough CCs to make sure their time in stealth is spent crippled, stunned or on their kitten

Sure, I wouldn’t mind seeing a couple of changes, like opening strike breaks stealth..even if it misses. Maybe increase the amount of time in reveal by a second. But with the game as it is, my best advice is to try and play the classes that give you the most problems and you’ll come up with some counters when you see what their weaknesses are.

Stealth is a broken mechanic. it has caused more controversy in ANY mmo that has ever implemented it. ArenaNet have made it clear they are not going to rework the thief.

AoE is an issue, d/d bunker ele is something they are watching, thief……. doesn’t even get mentioned.

1on1 thiefs i normally don’t have that much of a problem with, other than not being able to keep them at melee range when they decide to just reset the fight.

But most thiefs are cowards who like to hide until they find me fighting 1 or 2 other guys and burst me to death. Same with killshot warriors (yeah 10k killshot with me having 3k armor, totally okay…).

I have all classes but warrior at level 80 and quite some playtime with each class. The problem in WvW is that many people run around with glass cannon builds. A thief can burst you for about 15k – 18k. If you have no means to reduce the damage (toughness) and have a good health pool (18k+) you’re in serious trouble if you get ambushed by a thief – yes.

My D/D ele, however, eats thieves (the bad, glass cannon ones). You learn to run around in air and have your finger on #3. As soon as you take damage you hit #3 and the next attack immobilizes the thief. After that it’s a matter of kiting (to make a backstab less likely) and spamming AoE around you.

Thieves either run after they did fail the first attack chain or they remain and fight – and die (about 80 – 90% of the time).

Guess why WvW armour is PTV …

You will not see those impressive numbers when you attack someone, agreed, but you’ll not fall prey to killshot warriors or thieves and if you don’t like to die by them then you’d better gear up a bit more defensively.

Brilliant but containing a seed of wisdom too. Any half-competent player takes the audio sound of a thief as the queue to immediately go into anti-gank mode. God gave you ears, eyes, a mouth and a brain. Sadly most people employ only one out of four.

I play warrior, necro and engineer… Thieves are not hard to kill, tricky hell yes, and if they are good and get of their kitten as they are supposed to I’m likely toast.

They throw down Shadow Refuge, AOE the kitten outta that thing. If you play a warrior just GS around in it, no thief takes more than 5-6 hits from a GS anyway… Or do that slam move and push em out on their arses. Or if they stealth in other ways, activate your dmg mitigation stuff and/or get away as fast as possible.

If I can’t defend thief can I at least mention how terrible people can be at wvw and chances are if I killed you on my thief I would have also killed you and most likely two other people on my Guard who can actualy do AoE damage?

I don’t mind thieves at all when I’m on my warrior.

I don’t care to play thief in WvW. Class is fun but I get way more mileage out of my warrior. Better group support and it takes several of the zerg to get me down in a reasonable amount of time.

Having played a thief, I understand how they work.

I love it when thieves pop a shadow refuge. Hammer #4 or “Fear me.”

I speak for my self and no one else. Only fools believe they speak for a majority.

Yes,
Thieves can win while being greatly outnumbered against bad players.
There are many, many bad players in wvw, so thieves have a field day.

I like fighting thieves, I win against far far more than I lose against.
If I hear someone on map chat kittening about thieves I usually go hunt them down myself.

I took on a Thief. As an Engineer, we have certain things we can do.

Thief went Captain Shadow Refuge on me in a corner when his health went low…

To quote Ripley from ALIENS…

“I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.”

Dropped a Supply Crate into the Shadow Refuge(2 second Stun). Jump Shot in Refuge. Grenade Barrage. Swap to Grenade Kit. Another Grenade Barrage. Superior Sigil of Geomancy Procs (7 second Bleed) when I swapped. Shrapnel Grenade.

Didn’t even have to use Elixir S for TINY DUNK.

Guardian has the best tools to defend thieves, especially d/d ones. Thieves have no stability, just keep them on the ground and it’s over. Even when my guardian was level 30, I didn’t have any real trouble with d/d thieves. Granted, I couldn’t even kill the npc’s at that point, so no chance at killing the thief, but he couldn’t kill me either.

Funny being a sword/dagger thief I don’t even f with mesmers if I see they have sword/sword. So yeah people hate on thief but we have things we hate too. S/s mes, well dropping necro (good ones), hammer warriors, d/d ele (good ones) and the rare but powerful sword/torch burn guard.

I mean does anyone ask themselves what exactly the effect of a burst class with stealth thats squishy would be? You do know thats the underlying principle of its design right?

He’s supposed to be stealth reliant. supposed to be high damage for his high risk.. and yes it is high risk because glass thieves even melt like butter to my guard bunkers random whirling wrath if they mistime their assault.

I honestly think people need to rethink their views on thief. If he couldnt burst you like that, couldnt remain hidden, what is he supposed to do, play a long drawn out fight like say.. a warrior would? umm see an issue there? he kinda isnt a warrior..

The class is working as its designed. Stealth gives you the ‘jump’ its an alpha 1v1 killing class. This its its purpose. To have heavy advantage in that field.

Yet if I can kill one, with a low dps bunker spec by simply knowing how thief works, then so can anyone. You make out like once his initiative is down he has a bunch more imba tricks to go on killing a whole army. Sorry if one guy is taking out a whole group by himself those people are either terrible or he’s hacking.

Yet as a 1v1 duelist class, on his A game, he should have the tools to win quickly. Thats its design o_0

I support this rule as long as we have another rule that states if you are going to complain about any class, thief or otherwise, you must properly inform yourself about the class before posting a bunch of half truths, exaggerations, or outright lies.

D/D Eles are the new top OP class though.

You may be able to see them. But good luck catching, out DPSing and out healing them.

Usually it’s over in a few hits for a thief. A d/d ele is a 12-inch cannon mounted on a lightning tank.

If people haven’t also realized. Elementalists are also the ultimate defenders and roamers in WvW. All you need is a bunch of eles and you are gaurenteed to successfully defend your towers and keeps.

Zerg at your door? Rain down fire and light them up!
Get downed on the walls of the structure you’re defending? No problem! Vapour form hover away to safety!

Zerg planting down catapults from a short distance? Get your elementalist engines ready!
Step 1: Focus block with swirling winds.
Step 2: “Suicide” run to their siege. Drop your AOEs of fiery death!
(Step 3: Get downed.)
Step 4: Float back to safety with mist (/vapour) form!

Trebs hitting your structures? Focus block with swirling winds and be the hero of the day!

What can a thief do? Fire a cluster bomb every 5 seconds that does squat all? Man a cannon where they melt to AOE?

Truly Elementalists are balanced…
