Warriors and Guardians can face tank a bunch of AoE while manning a flame ram without having to heal or leave, which is unachieveable by those 3 classes mechanics.

What do these three Professions have in common?
Cheap escapes. They can tank just as well, if not muuuuch better, than a Warrior/Guardian by simply jumping in and out of an enemy zerg unmolested.

My Engineer main is an excellent escape artist, comparable to a Thief. In some ways better.

Being capable of jumping in and out of a zerg won’t do much when you are actually sieging a location with flame rams and close range catapults.
Their survivability is based on being able to kite, while when using siege weaponry flat out durability is much more valuable.

Again, this is false. Guardian and Warrior can only face-tank which doesn’t give you great odds at surviving. An D/D Elementalist zipping in and out of the enemy zerg, healing himself repeatedly, will have a much higher survival rate than a Warrior or Guardian.
Thief/Mesmer with their stealth? lol… no contest.

How is it a troll thread? I asked a question based on my observations. I’ve yet to see a post arguing for, for example, the viability of Necromancers. You really don’t need any other classes, heck if it weren’t for porting Golems, Mesmers wouldn’t be vital either.

Well I agree that the thief is a bit crazy mainly because of being able to be invisible 90% of the fight on top of massive dps, then top that off with great downed abilities make them pretty OPed pvp.
Elementalist and Mes I can live with especially since one of my guys is a Mes :P
Ok then lets just start with the guard/warr
Warr got kittenload of CC eg knockdowns/stuns, as well as kittenloads of blast finisher
including pretty cool tank skills and still beeing able to burst some dmg
guardians, awesome support class, if you either play him on boons, or cirt/AoE heal
adding super cool skills like reflection wall, that nasty small knockdown bubble as well as the kd wall
also granting AoE Stabillity and kittenloads of heal using the tome elite
sure, ele can heal too, but neither grant stabillity, nor knockdown, or tank, or reflect dmg or cc more than 5 enemys every 50 sec
and now dont say tanking is useless, depending on the situation you NEED to stay and cant just “kite our heal and back in”

The classes mentioned are the best solo and <5 man classes. But, when you get up into the 10v10 scale of fighting, things are really pretty well balanced. Except for confusion damage. It does too much damage in WvW, IMO.

I’d agree, but I’ve been busy trying to counter skilled Engis, who seem to be popping up in FC. Can’t keep a condition on them for more than a few seconds.

The confusion epidemic is fun but the 5 man ae limit hurts and you have to have thieves around to stomp in many cases which doesent leave a lot of room for eles which are really the backbone of 5 man groups. With a 10 person group I can see it becoming much more attractive.

Disagree. As long as that zerg has condition removals you can’d do anything. My ele can remove 15 conditions in 6 seconds. Necros are useless against me.

Yup, a necro can really mess up a guardian heavy group.

Yeah, gimmicks might work every once in a while but it’s too inconsistent to rely on. There is spectral walk, but you would have to get hit with that stun while it’s active. Totally hit and miss and unreliable. You could use a wurm port but that takes time to set up and isn’t terribly helpful if you get caught offguard. They really need a consistent get out of jail free card.

You’re not the first necro player I’ve seen who seems to have trouble with thieves. I only bring it up ‘cause my necro is the only toon I play where I have zero respect for thieves. I want them to come try me. I’m much more cautious around them in smaller groups on my engi, ranger, or ele.
Note, I’m not trying to imply that I win every one on one with a thief. I don’t. But I certainly feel like I can win every one of them, which is the point. I rarely get stomped by them, in any case, and even if I don’t down them I’m relatively effective in chasing them off to harass somebody who is an easier target. Necro marks can be pretty amazing little tools when utilized correctly.

In wvw every class has a build that works well, some a little more than others.
If you’re running small group or doing solo roaming some class excel better than others however nothing in the game rewards 1v1 skill other than smack talking rites. =P

My necro only ever loses to a thief if I am running looking at the map when I am attacked. One or two have managed to realise and run away, the rest go splat – wells and flesh golem (clue: golem has a wonderful skill!), or just wells, cripple, marks and of course into to spectral, count conditions on thief, out of spectral, heal based on conditions, watch thief put up tent, cast wells on tent, wait for downed thief to appear (or even dead).
D/d eles learn to run from decent necros very quickly- it’s not so easy when all your boons are gone…
There are quite a few builds that will destroy thieves 1v1 but just like 100b warriors they are a pub stomp class.
Now in group combat good thieves that can count stun breaks and deliver are brutal.

btw if u cant kill someone, create a new champion and play, try to see strong and weak sides, then back in ur main and look how easy to counter thiefs, mesmers and especialy D/D eles

They retreated to go kill some doylaks, but I caught up to them and backup arrived and they all went down. That said, most thiefs are bad at the game. Thief class is pretty OP. And I agree with the OPs setntiment. Its not to say though, that other classes can’t do an effective job as well.

Looks at signature, looks at d/d bunker build I am running. 3x Cantrips, water attunement switch, 5 water, and glyph of elemental…..oh no, now what? Cause all your skills are now on cool down. You just used your water attunement AND your healing skill in order to remove conditions. Guess what? That 5th necro just turned the boons you gained from switching attunements into conditions, bye bye life pool.
I know what can be used to removed conditions and the fact is that is a one trick poney. It may work vs 1, 2, maybe 3 necros. 5 necros that turn all your boons into conditions. Well…..let’s just say you’re a dead ele.
Not to mention there will be other classes in the zerg that cannot remove that amount of conditions. And the fact the necros will be using more than just the skill to turn your zergs boons into conditions.

There is a reason why they keep getting nerfed.
Why complain about the mobility of the lowest health pool and lowest armor class in the game? Yeah it can be annoying, but they have to be mobile to make up for the fact that they cant face tank.
Yes, bunkers can face tank a bit… but who cares, they do no damage.
I saw a mesmer take down like 6-7 enemies (with a little help of my), but in any case, 7, SEVEN, come on man, i left the game 6 weeks, and now im back and see that, is just wtf

I will admit though that the stealth ability on the mesmer and thief is complete BS. I don’t have a thief but I do play a mesmer and it feels cheap. At least with mistform you know where they are going. Why Anet hasn’t allowed people to knock players out of stealth is mental. At least reward the player for guessing right.

Mesmers aren’t overpowered at all and this is coming from someone who doesn’t and will not play one. They are absurdly squishy and if you have any stuns or interrupts just learn to time them properly and enjoy watching as they can’t cast while their health drops like a sack of potatoes.
Elementalists are the only questionable class in my honest opinion but they can only be tanky and resilient if they build for it. Defeating an Elementalist is all about timing your stuns and interrupts properly. Is he low on health? Has he switched to water attunement? Watch for the heal cast and make him a sad panda by stunning him as he casts it. Congrats his heal is on cooldown and he has no worthwhile offensive spells. Enjoy.
Thieves are seriously NOT over-powered. Now I play one so I know many of you will simply read this as bias but take a few moments to consider what I say. There a three types of thieves: Glass Cannon, Condition, and Survival.
Glass Cannon thieves give everything up in terms of survivability in order to maximize their DPS. Yes they can stealth and YES they can catch you off guard but that is what a thief is supposed to do; catch you off guard. That being said the trick to dealing with glass cannon thieves is dodging and paying attention. Timing your dodges and stunning him before he casts Hide in Shadows is how you win. If he drops Shadows Refuge, drop AoE damage inside the bubble. You will down him guaranteed.
Condition thieves are pretty weak and rarely seen in my opinion as all it takes is some removal and all your DPS is gone. I see a lot of these thieves attempting to do perma stealth builds so they can disappear and sustain damage. Ultimately, these guys can’t do anything but hide so just pay attention.
Survival thieves are the smart players who give up some damage to ensure that they can outlast foes in a 1v1. We are the hardest to kill but we can’t nuke you in 2 seconds and I would say that survival thieves take the most skill to use.

Oh you don’t have a thief? But it’s BS? Try playing an unstealthed thief and see how long you last. Stealthing is as much a core mechanic as changing attunements is to an ele.
