Orbs of Power gonna return?

They won’t come back in the same way that they were at least, if they come back at all.

Why not simply make the orb give bonus only in home land? If it’s your borderland then getting the orb give you bonus but only for this map. Orb won’t give bonus in other map than your home borderland.
It should help to defend your homeland a lot!
You could also allow the orb to be placed in keep or castle and then have that place be upgradable to a tier 4 of some sorts.
Defenders would have to hold out till keep was upgraded, so reset rushes wouldn’t be quite as important.
If the keep is lost the Orb would respawn 15 minutes later, probably forcing an open fight to secure it to a keep.

Nope, no orbs. No orbs for taking from north altar and placing inside a keep.
The reason: Hacks on flying, location, run speed, etc. Dev confirmed, search this forum.
RvR isn’t “endgame”, it’s the only game. Cu in CU.
Come on, everyone know there is a ton of easy fix to the hack problem. For example, have a NPC carry the orb to the keep. While he carry it you just have to protect him.

impossible in what way?
if its impossbile to carry it then yes if for stopping the orb then no.
a way to do that would be to kill the npc or make him flee if no PC’s are close of the faction starting him( there is a lot of possible ways it could be implented)

It would be completely impossible to escort the Orb, unless you did it on a completely empty map or the NPC had a constant +100% speed buff or 1 million HP.

No no, keep it simple.
Just make the NPC carrying the orb a very slow moving champion that can’t defend itself : like a champion dolyak.
If your server escort that dolyak successfully you get an orb in your keep. If not, then the enemy zerg will kill your dolyak. It’s simple here. It’s a champion so it can’t be one shot but the enemy still have plenty of chance to kill him. Also, for defending him it’s simple : if you wipe their zerg then they can’t kill it.
Please stop finding problems where there are only solutions.
i seriously hope not…. more griefs than fun…..
Archeage = Farmville with PK
I actually quite like the idea. It will also add a bit more tactics for example while the enemy server is escorting the orb their whole zerg will be near the dolyak as it needs to stay alive. But during this time you could take their keeps as a distraction. This could cause them to leave the orb while you kill the dolyak and take a keep somewhere else
WvW needs more variety and not just be like:
Put siege > Take tower> Run off To another tower>put siege>take tower> Lose tower> run to tower> put siege> take the tower back> lose tower…

Thank you for understanding all the new possible strategy this simple change bring up
Also, having the orb reset after say 6 hours would be a good think. So it can happen more than once.
Just make the NPC carrying the orb a very slow moving champion that can’t defend itself
Sorry, but this would be impossible unless you already are winning be a huge margin. Thieves, warriors and other classes can already kill dolyaks guarded by 10+ people alone.

Here the important word was : Champion.
It’s possible to defend the keep lord against pretty big zerg when you do it right.
since the WvW team consists of devon and one intern, i don’t think they are coming back any time soon

Indeed, but at a keep-lord you have walls, siege-weapons and quite a few other NPCs.

Well it’s normal you won’t succeed every time. If they wipe you and have a good 2 minutes to kill your orb carrier then you deserve to fail. But if you wipe them then….
Dead enemies can’t kill anything and 1-2 thief + a couple of suicider can’t kill a champion before you kill them.
Orbs of Power seem like an awesome thing to bring back and it could massively change the wvw from just zerging. I saw a post from a dev that they are gonna be bringing them back so we might as well use this post to discuss how would we like to see them come back.

The only fool proof way to truly address the omniblob is to make the maps “larger”.
The map doesnt actually have to increase in size though, you could just remove wps for example or raise the height of some cliffs forcing longer routes.
At present the omni blob is simply too mobile, making it the most effective tactic.
Making players spread out should help with the lag too.

IMO, have it the other way around; the T4 upgrades are what give the orb bonuses.
Can’t remember where I read it so you’ll have to take my word on it, but they stated they want to bring orbs back in a different way they were before. I think that this has the potential to entirely change the dynamics of a BL map so really looking forwards to it. I also think that if they are not implemented well then it could spell disaster for WvW morale…
Are the orbs coming back? No. Are we bringing back the buff? Yes, although the way you get it and hold it is going to be drastically different. Are you going to see a major map change in concert with this? Yes. Is it coming soon? Most definitely.
Are we bringing back the buff? Yes
You’re actually going to re-introduce the buff which only served to make the stronger server even stronger?
Would be nice if for example the loosing server get the buffs as way of compensate the loosing and keep up the ppt tighter troughout the whole week.
Instead of having much matchups already played by tuesday
[Coin] Gandara
My guess:
They are removing the lake on each BL. No more krait, no more Quaggan nodes. In place of the lake will be some kind of control point or tower and whatever side owns it will receive a buff similar to the previous orb buffs.

This would be great. The losing servers need to have some type of good buff to be able to compete with the overwhelming winning server.

Read again. They are introducing the buff, but the way you obtain it is going to be differend. So perhaps it’ll now be something that not only the strongest server gets it’s hands to.

If this orb replacement gives a stat bonus to the zergiest server, I feel like a lot of guilds will quit.

Here’s the thing to remember, it may buff the better servers for a time, but if it is relatively easy to take from a better server, it isn’t going to cause nearly the same problems that the original buff did. I will say that when this goes back into the game, we’ll continue to monitor the effects and make changes as necessary.

I feel like a lot of guilds and players will quit either way. There are way too many players that enjoy 1v1 to 5v5s and GvGs, and having to deal with the fact that one side will have a 5-15% stat discrepancy over the other is pretty intolerable. It’ll be impossible to schedule fights because we won’t know the status of the buffs before hand.
Please just take a kittening page from DAoC and put something like Darkness Falls in for the server that has the most PPT. That was the best solution; it was figured out a while ago; there’s no reason to keep trying to do something different.

Just make them an instant buff or some cool eye-candy, don’t let them affect the scores. Otherwise, the “nightcapping” problem will just be increased

I can’t echo this sentiment enough. If there’s an unfair stat bonus to any server, 1v1s, GvGs, fight clubs, etc. are going to be impossible. There is a growing GvG scene, and you will destroy it by adding any kind of stat bonus unilaterally to one server over the other.
Please talk to guild leaders before making changes like this, because it could be catastrophic to the already tiny organized guild community.
If, on the other hand, this is merely a boost to magic/gold find or karma/exp, then I’d support it. But giving a stat bonus at all to any server is a terrible decision.

I doesnt matter what Anet wants, it’s what the players want, Maguuma would be dead and very boring if it werent for our GvGers, roamers and small group havoc squads, I’m sure there are many other servers like this. I prefer to roam and defend, when I roam I do not want an advantage over other players, if there is a stat buff I need to have the ability to “decline” the buff, if I’m defending against a roach colony I cant say I would decline the buff then but I dont think it would be incredibly helpful so w/e NO STAT BONUSES PLEASE!!

By this logic A.Net shouldn’t ban botters and goldsellers either because players want to buy money with real money for a cheap price.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Devon I just want to echo caution in any stat buffing bonus. A lot of veteran players get their kicks on arranging fights in WvW, and having orbs that change that could be a huge hit to that entire scene.
Stat buffs?
Really?
This cant end well.
Watch when the largest server stack that control point with 30 omegas and we’ll see whether it’s takeable.
Do you even have an inkling of what wvw has devolved to?

I agree with this.

Does that question really need to be asked?
there is already enough stat buffs in this game in WvW with food and consumables builds etc..
You should just add a 200% Magic Find relic, now that’d be interested, that way I can make more loot!

So the server that outnumbers the other servers is the better server? Glad to see how Anet really feels…

The history of the Orbs is a touchy subject [I think WvW players will agree]. More than one multi-game organization left the scene during the Orb abuse days. Be careful.
Devon how much time has the WvW Development Team spent in WvW? How much time was spent with the remaining organized WvW guilds? You have so much work to do…I do not envy your position.
Furthermore, your work load could be less. The Developer Team will find community members with the skills to compile feedback, threads, concerns, criticism, ideas, etc. in a more organized manner. Do you need that? Use them. People need to know [if] you are looking for that. You will find [community respected] guilds on the field that will give you the state of the game in WvW. Use them. Brief the community that you are seeking information. [You will get different feedback on the combat field than on the forums].
I renounce my hibernation and return.

Can’t echo this point enough from the Tarnished Coast perspective. The game is moving away from objectives/PPT to GvG’s.
Why? Because of reduced competition through the AC buff and the randomized server matchups. WvW guilds are doing GvG’s to keep their players in the game.
Unbalancing GvG’s with an objective-based buff will just knee-cap one of the things that is keeping people in the game.
I wasn’t around during the initial Orb issues. And I do agree that if it gives a larger server an advantage over a smaller server that will be the end of wvw for a lot of players of those smaller servers. I do agree that the fight clubs, GvG need to have a place to have fun with out having a stat difference because of the orbs.
So what if the Orb’s provided only a defense buff on keeps and towers you own in your BL? Instead of a player specific buff that can cause issues.
People want to fight within fixed parameters on a level playing field.
Having an objective based stat buff on the order of the old orb system is incredibly unbalancing.
Furthermore, regardless of how much the dev team believes they can “balance” this, the larger server with more coverage – should they want to; will almost certainly be able to hold the point indefinitely with the supply superior and numbers they have.
I’m not really the type to jump to conclusions, but based on the limited information, ie an open field control point providing stat buffs, there is little to NO possibility this would not be negative for wvw as a whole.
Imagine if you were on a smaller server with less numbers and coverage, you login to wvw, first thing you see when an enemy runs by is that he’s got an orb buff, and 10 omegas plus twice your force is sitting on that point.
Unless you have a ready organized and determined force ready to go, you’re going go spvp or pve.
The smaller servers already suffer from a lack of server wide coordination and communication, insanity like this only serves to punish them further.
I really have no idea what the dev team is thinking.
It’s incredibly disappointing to see the direction wvw is going.

Guys, wait to see what the buffs do before freaking out. Anet understood that the previous orb buffs only made the strongest server stronger. My guess is it’ll be something along the lines of defense against guards/lords and maybe increased Wexp. Something like that and not direct stat buffs.
