Ridiculous WvW
The larger problem is that the dead don’t stay dead.
What’ is this… some bad horror syfi… where the zombie apocalypse raises from the ashes to defeat every living thing?
Get rid of this mechanic.
At least then, small roaming groups could do drive by’s on the larger zerg, or kite the zerg, knowing that what they acutally DOWN… STAYS DOWN.
Srsly.
Maybe instead of getting rid of the mechanic, add a timer to it, much like the righteous indignation buff in supply camps. Like maybe a 3-4 minute timer before being able to be rezzed. Most engagements (with the exception of a good stonemist / garrison fight) are over by that time anyway.
There is a thing called solo WvW roaming. Google it.
Yes, this thing where you end up leaving WvW at the end of your playtime having died ten times as much as anyone else, watched more players run away from fight than finish them, and lost far more currency on repair costs than you gained.
Only if you suck real bad. I run solo most of the time. Am not a stealth thief, tho am a thief. HAVE soloed camps, and towers. Even as a thief that like to stay and fight most of the time, I make money and rarely group up. Ankitten o where near leet. I just seem to know how to pick sensible fights most of the time. I guess, tho my guildie who sometimes runs with me thinks I’m nuts the way I like to go thru breaches head first Dagger Storming everyone. She laughs at me alot.
lol…you’re not going to take a supply camp as a solo WvW roamer.
This is news to me.
No kidding. Done it, and Briar Tower once. That was fun. Ppl should repair their gate after beating back an attack.

Actually, the best nerf to mindless zergballs is to remove the stupid AOE limit. If I poison a room, more then 5 ppl are going to choke on it if there are 20 in it. I laugh at the ones that say a few ppl shouldn’t be able to hold off a massive number. Tell that to the 300 at Thermopylae. Or any of the other “lost cause, last stands” in history. Artillery hits more the 5 when it goes off overhead too, or any of a number of examples. You’d still have the same number of ppl there, just can’t exploit a stupid hit limit that’s brain damaged, and they’d have to spread out to minimize it’s effect, just like real soldiers do.

Anet set up an entire system around 5v5, and 8v8, called sPvP.
World vs World is supposed to be about large groups of people fighting.
Each tier tends to have the limits by what they field, so if you were looking for smaller battles, say 20 v 20, then you need to look for servers that offer that, which do exist.

What’s so organized about a bunch of small groups running around with their own personal goals? When you think about it, playing that way has even more potential to be chaotic then zergs do. Commanders and zergs are learning. We’re seeing a lot more organized zergs these days and even some of the pugs are learning. New tactics such as might stacking and always staying moving as a unit in a fight are being discovered. For example, see what a RAM zerg can do to anything Maguuma can throw at it.
Cause, I don’t know, they use this thing called chat, or Teamspeak to talk to each other and tell them what they are doing so they can do what is know as “coordinate”. And chaos is especially what they are supposed to BE causing. For the enemy, by harassment and distraction. Which is why solo/small groups are able to ninja targets while the zergball assumes the other zergball they are fighting is everyone. But isn’t.

Cool. Sadly this doesn’t work in a game like this, with so many animations and aoe spamming. That’s why big fights are terrible. And that’s why wvw is terrible outside of small scale.
WvW DOES = Zerg fights. The problem is that you seem to think “zergs” are a bad thing. You can demonize the term all you want, but in the end of the day, zergs are nothing more than a large group of people working together towards a common goal. Sorry you hate teamwork in a large scale team-oriented game. There are other PvP options available to you, and I’d suggest you use them.
Working together? Lawl. You mean pressing random buttons and spamming aoe around without even picking a target. It’s just a deception actually…they seem to work together, while in reality they are not. Probably like their neurons. Are you one of them?

I definitely believe siege weapons should have no cap at all. Player aoe cap I can understand getting away with, but if a ballista punches through 20+ people sitting on top of each other they should all feel it.

Ahh. So when I throw a grenade into a group of ten ppl it will politely decline to hurt half of them…..
Also, and please don’t take this the wrong way, but, we need to pause and realize that Anet has no real need to keep people playing. With the new move of MMO’s being more F2P or a 1 time fee, designers, and developers get to make the game they want to make, and let the people make the choice to stay around or not. Since the era of the sub went away, so did the need to keep players running the hamster wheel.
If players get bored, burned out, and feel the need to move on, such is life. If players are enjoying it, then play, have fun, enjoy it. There is no contract anymore, no need to slave for the sub, or a feeling of losing anything by taking a break it, you can come and go as you please. It’s liberating really.
I mean, I could be missing something, but, when I see players staying in a game that they feel discontent with, they can’t be doing anyone any favors, least of all, themselves.
I mean, it seems from the post that people are, for lack of a better way to put this, forcing themselves to play a game they to the point of harboring aggression or hostility towards it. Maybe contempt? Really, it hard to put a name to it, but no matter what it may be called, it’s not a favorable environment for anyone involved or witnessing it.
I guess what I am trying to say, is that GW2 or any MMO, no matter how complex it is, is really just a means of entertainment, like a book or movie, or even some console game, if you are not having fun playing, it’s not entertaining, and you are not enjoying it, perhaps it is time to move on, find something new, try some other war games, or whatever.
If you feel that DAOC or Warhammer Online was better, then go play that, get a fresh look, and see, maybe it is all you thought it was, maybe it’s not. Go sample, try new games, and have some fun.

Ungood….what are you doing here posting on these forums? You make too much sense. :P
As to the OP, you are wrong. As others noted small group roaming is alive and well. You need to be somewhat mentally tough to do it, though, since you are going to wipe early and often and usually to unbalanced numbers. OTOH, it is a good challenge and requires that you pick your targets (human and otherwise) carefully.
I play on SoR against JQ and BG so I know full well about zergs and how you need to time them and watch out for randoms who come in and try to disrupt you capping a camp or control point.
And, quite frankly, the whole point of small group play is to force the enemy to respond to something while your main force takes an objective. Capping a camp, while useful, is quite often just an added bonus. If you can get the enemy to send five or ten times your numbers to come after you and stop you from harassing the back lines….you have already helped your side win since they won’t be adding their strength elsewhere.
taking stomemist right now and it’s a good 4-5 second delay on my skills and running 67 fps … so win thought I might add it because it’s falls under the realm of what’s actually wrong with wvw

I would say just remove the cap all together, but that would still only give the larger zerg force an even easier means of rampaging across the countryside. Siege though is stationary and dependant on positioning to be effective, and ACs / ballistas are meant to counter large clumps of people standing on top of each other.

My recommendation is to not get discouraged, if they have to send an entire zerg to wipe your havoc wear it like a badge of honor.

Totally agree! If a server has to send anything more than what you’re roaming with just to find you and take you down then that’s a victory in itself since that’s manpower taken away from other areas your server can capitalize on!

It should be pretty easy vs SOR…they’ll never charge you until its 3:1 odds in their favor…problem is that they get 3:1 anytime they want

That is what happens when we don’t take friendly fire.
When you side fires arrow cart against the enemy, and they get hit and you don’t, that is not realistic at all, neither is players shooting guns, bows, throwing axes and swinging massive greatswords wildly in at everything around them and not hitting each other in the process.
In fact, to be realistic, every AoE effect should hit everything around it, regardless of friend or foe, but we all realize that games suspend reality for the sake of a better more enjoyable playing environment.

Ummmm I am confused, DAOC is still around. If you want to play that as opposed to this game, there is no reason why you should’t go and enjoy yourself.

Why are you playing GW2 and complaining about it? Why aren’t you playing DAOC????

Because DAOC was the cream of the crop for RVR/ WVW. Yes it is still in existence. But it is not what it uses to be. The original concept, those who know old frontiers, can attest to how daoc is not as good as it used to be. They changed the system. That is why we no longer play.

I actually liked NF better, its just that engine is outdated and friends are not around. With all its shortcomings, I’d be back if I could find about 15 people from old times that regularly play

Zergs <> teamwork…its pretty obvious you didn’t play much other MMOs
Please explain how zergs =/= teamwork.
Zergs:
-Require a large number of players
-Roaming together
-Attacking together
-Healing/Assisting one another
-Taking the same objectiveThis is basically be the definition of teamwork. You sure have a skewed perception of the word.
Your replies continue to entertain us. I advise everyone to check this guy’s comments followed by funny replies from everyone else.
LOL! I didn’t expect this post to take on a life of it’s own yet it seems to have done so. I have of course read the changes that are in store of WvW, and I really hope that they are beneficial in equalizing game play.
lol…you’re not going to take a supply camp as a solo WvW roamer. You may take a Dolyak…but once you meet up with with the zerg or that group of 3-5…your roaming is over.
Welp now I see why Yaks Bend is in last place in our matchup. Oddly enough, my group of 5 took your West Keep just a few days ago by hiding in it after your zerg flipped it back from Kaineng.
Try harder I guess?
No one even bothers to go to WvW because it’s pointless for them to do so. Part of it can be attributed to lack of strategy but it’s impossible for that to be the entire reason. There’s a self propagating cycle going on there as well.
Lose, lose, lose = People leaving
People Leaving = Lose, lose, lose even more
Lose, lose, lose even more = Even more people leaving
Etc. Etc. Etc.
See a pattern here? I can’t speak for everyone, but I can comment about what I hear from others…their reason for lack of interest in WvW as well as my own. Even if they decide to rotate the servers or do the matching differently, once you’ve lost that interest it’s exceptionally difficult to get it back.
So, I really hope it improves.
