Strongest 2vX setup
Sustain + damage (stealth if you going full yolo). Whatever does that for you will work.
Engi/Necro, Necro/Necro, or Necro/Ele.
Out of any necro/x combo vs other small groups its Reaper/Herald to be more exact. Its an impossible to beat combo when both are specced and played well.
One could argue that stealth give you an advantage (ie glass cannon dual thieves), but really, it doesnt. It only allow you to flee. Which isnt roaming, that’s cowardice.
Engi/Ele
Thief/Ele
Thief/Engi
Rev/Engi
In PvP, would say Engi/x, but you won’t be able to 2vsx decent players, just disengage and reset the fight most of the time.
Plays completely opposite professions to his main Teef.

^This guy is correct, the little stealthly skinny jean wearing kids play stealth escape classes and don’t stick around to get punched in the mouth. The best roaming partner I ever had was a guard. I typically play necro and the support + boons he fed was incredible. But honestly, it depends on the player IMO, not a specific class.
Nowadays, just any 2 people that knows how to play imo

Well, personally I think it do depend on the class :p
A herald will feed better boons than a guard and will be tankier than a dragonhunter trapper (which is what the guard presumably will run) while having roflstomp damage. A trapper IMO is a predictable one trick pony, much like a thief. If you avoid the main trap, he melts.
prolly two condi necros, or one condi necro + rev
Álways roam with a necro if possible. This way if things go kittens up, you can pop swiftness and slip away while the necro takes one for the team.

lol so true, getting away with a necro is rather challenging. for the fights itself tho, necros with guards are really nice or necro with supportish tempest (used to roam in this combo and it was really good).
Necro + mesmer is great in coordination. Portals away when you need to disengage + great bursts and stomps.
Guard/Chrono….
It will most likely depend on your duo partner and what you can both play well… (me and a friend do well on double thief, while another friend we do absolutely horrible as duo thief.)
….. And Elementalist.
Staff or D/P Daredevil or Hammer Scrapper w/ Stealth gyro + PU condi chrono … because power + condi damage is much harder to deal with than just power/condi
Disregarding stealth tactics, likely something along the lines of a D/W Tempest and Druid.
I find DH to be poor for roaming because few skills that are meant for 5 allies work with 1 and Hunter’s Ward/True Shot is much weaker in a small group situation due to the animations. The same goes for Hammer Heralds.
Reaper is a good roaming profession for more than 2 people but it doesn’t have many ways to escape if things go south ; the lack of stability means it is easy to get locked down.
In your backline: Elementalist+Mesmer+Necromancer

If 50% uptime of pulsing stability is lack of stability then all classes actually lacking stability must be in a really bad shape.
2 condi memsers with perplexity runes. One hit, 25 stacks of confusion and instant death.
Been roaming with a guildy as sw/shield gs power chrono and me as s/d daredevil. Although some match ups are hard it’s still does good presuer because like you said about the glass thives, s/d thives do not hide in stealth or out burst like a d/p does. And with both of us porting all over the place it can be tricky to lock 1 of us down.
Not saying it’s the best but it’s still very fun.
gw1 – healing signet/frenzy/charge
We run two thieves one heavy condi/interrupt, one heavy burst. It is a very strong combo with tons of escape to avoid larger groups and extremely fast travel. I would say we win 9/10 fights we are in with even or better odds. If we run into lessor skilled players going 5v2 is very doable. Given that both of us are “old”, I can say the combo would be even more effective in younger hands. We can also effectively eat the tail of large groups which few classes can reliably do. Pretty fun to blow someone up in the middle of a zerg and get away unscathed.
As someone mentioned two mesmers/chronos are also extremely strong.
Necro/Reapers are thief food. I haven’t died to one in weeks as they are too easily kited.
DH is solid but lacks escape so when a fight turns they bite it. Their travel time is horrible and a condi thief blows them up easily. Typically we consider DH mainly good in zergs and general door huggers.
Ele/Tempest make solid roamers and two of them are a complete handful to bring down. The toughest fight we get into is when two Tempests are stacked on top of each other as their condi/healing is strong and they can still spike solid damage.
Scrappers are a solid pick but don’t synergize with other classes outside of the stealth gyro but still a strong roamer.
Warriors are mostly laughable unless you clocked by a Gunflame. One awesome attack doesn’t make for good roaming though.
Druids are surprisingly good with the right build and skill. Ultimately though we tend to run them down as they do not handle interrupts well.

u nailed it.

Just one condi mesmer with mistrust can decimate against outnumbered situations where people roll their faces across the keyboard. Seen 20 stacks of confusion from 1 chaos storm alone on everyone because when people outnumber you they’re hungry for loot 123457890111111111111

Actually it synergize extremely well with itself if you go final salvo and gyros.
Not too long ago I had an awesome 2 scrappers vs 3 tempests fight. Scrappers won >.<
(also it was 5 asurans so the fight was beautifull too)

Almost nothing in the scrapper trait lines synergize with one another. Gyros can be shared but they aren’t multiplicative. A class like Tempest can aura share so while the class is pretty mediocre 1v1 (aside from full bunkers being REALLY difficult to bring down) two or more on top of each other is substantially harder to kill and can dish out decent burst if they are communicating.
Not too long ago I had an awesome 2 scrappers vs 3 tempests fight. Scrappers won >.<
Three decently played bunker Tempests should not be killed by two Scrappers. Scrappers are tough and slippery but lack the spike damage necessary to bring down a well played Tempest much less three fighting on top of each other. My guess is the Tempests were not running optimal specs, were not particularly skillful and likely were not on voice chat together.
Ultimately DH, Reaper, Scrapper and a few other classes all require their opponents to over-commit to win. They also lack long range escape. Sure a Scrapper can stealth and superspeed for a few seconds but without the big teleports, is easily caught. For this reason they aren’t in my favorite for small scale roaming. They are however pretty great for skirmish crews.

This.
Any profession works if you’re both comfortable and skilled with what you’re using.
For context, I’ve won 1vX’s many times as a glass Longbow Ranger (and yes I’m sure the victims weren’t good but that doesn’t mean I’m bad either) as well as having won my share of 2vX with a variety of different friends.
A while back, I was with a Herald friend of mine while I was on my Engineer. My friend is extremely good with his Herald and is mostly solo and I’m often solo as well. We were watching some duels together but the people that were doing so had been major poor sports to the both of us earlier in the day. Siege burying us, emote spamming, the works. We decided to YOLO the duelers and just him and I managed to kill about 12 people. Of course there was a lot of kiting involved, we took refuge in my Sneak Gyro a few times and had to run around the Anzalias vista hill with them chasing us but we still won a 2v12 without resetting or going in to any structures, lol.
If you and your partner are skilled enough it doesn’t matter what profession you’re using, some are just more ideal for roaming than others.
And for those saying Necro… Yes, Necro is very strong but like Guard, it’s rough to roaming with. Unless your Necro is a really good sport, they’re not going to want to roam with you much if you’re always letting them take one for the team when you get outnumbered. I know how much I hate it… So if you’re with someone who has poor disengage, you better be prepared to die with them or help them to escape sometimes otherwise they’re just going to end up hating you.

Scrapper here currently partnered with a glass cannon daredevil staff roaming partner. We do extremely well. We’ve had multiple 2v4 and some 2v5+ wins (not the best enemies ofc, but oh well).
Scrapper’s innate tankiness + good damage and utility mixed with the massive vault AOE damage means I can tank/slick shoes CC them while he just stomps on them. Water fields also works nice with his leaps to give him some extra sustain in fights.
His staff aoe blind also ensures I take less damage in clumped fights.
We are a bit vulnerable to condis, but we tend to nuke down enemy condi users first.
High stealth uptime for both of us also makes for nasty ambushes or quick retreats if things get messy.
scrap/drood stronk sustain based duo
it depends on how big the group is that youre fighting. for example stealth and peels for anything over 20+, lotsa condi for large unorganized groups.
