Yesterday there was a big row going on the GW2 forum on the post about the overhaul of WvW.

It seems some of the ppl, on the forum didn’t like the idea of an open discussion building up around the idea what WvW really needs to be stable in the future and what it will require to keep is as a part of the game alive.
Seeing it was easier to remove my entries instead of reacting to them i will re-edit my thoughts.

I’ve added this all into a single post referring to WvW and i would like reactions to the suggestions and the basic idea behind the post. Thank you for reacting in advance!

Hence this post:

If it hurts feeling so be it I would rather throw a brick trough the window to shatter an illusion then let players dream up a form of utopia that doesn’t work. Utopia’s never work!

My thanks go out to the players that got anxiety whilst reading my posts and the forum moderator they employed removing not only my ideas for an overhaul but those of my fellow Guildies, if you cannot take criticism and want things to go your way just remove it, thank you for allowing me to have this forum!

My position is the following:

A) Comparing WvW to the other game formats does not work, whereas PvP and PvE allow for random players to join WvW needs dedicated and loyal players that play on a daily basis else WvW as a system comes to a standstill.

B) In order to make important changes to WvW, you need the broad support of your WvW gaming-community, not just the designers and the players here helping them out changing the game are required for this.

Although you guys do an important job, and keep the game running where for my thank and gratitude, the future of an entire portion of Guild Wars 2 is too important to let you guys just decide about it.

Reasons why:

1) Alot of the players the developers depend on are from the fighting guilds the vision of these players is clouded, generalizing and judgemental, their main interest is making fights more interesting.

2) WvW is supposed to be the combination of a) a strategy game and b) a battlefield game, which allows the maximum of different fighting styles to be applies to it.

-In order to achieve this you need to capture, defend and add upgrades to your camps, towers and keeps this requires support from scouts, escorters builders, players and guilds that provide upgrades.

things working against this:

1) The guilds many of the complainers and helpers represent only are interested in fighting, they do not care about PPT which allows the they represent server to win.

2) These guilds have a vested interest in acquiring more fighting players, whereas all other segments of the game: scouting, ambush-tactics, sieging, defending, capping, roaming, capture, holding and building up objectives have secondry to none importance, which would at best be minimized or totally removed,
destroying World Versus World that we know and love in the process.

3) The posts reflecting to:

a) bringing back the old maps;
b) bringing back stability and overpowered skillz;
c) getting rid of the mechanics of the HOT system and finally
d) the overhaul of the WvW

Many of these posts and reactions are colored, generalizing, one sided and just follow the perspective of players wanting to turn back the game to the point before they left guild Wars 2.

Some of them havn’t even played the game and went of to do other stuff when HOT and the Desert Borderlands were released, they didn’t even bother exploring and fighting on it and just follow hearsay.

Can you really depend on these players to leave a lasting legacy for WvW, they leave on a whim when the game does not suit them anymore, how long wil this last 2 months to half a year for them to remain?
Are these players more important then the rest of your players that play the game on a daily basis? Now it looks like you are following the ideas of a couple of hundred players
versus the rest of your entire WvW-gaming community.

Can you or anyone at Arena-net tell me where the BALANCE you wish for is in this?

Evry interested WvW player deserves to have his voice heared, not just the few players that help out on the forum that tell about other WvW-players that their voice doesn’t count often arguementing that these players are ignorants!
Because its the voice of a happy careless player? a happy concerned player? a new player to WvW without real knowledge? players that don’t react on the forum?

We all deserve an advocate someone or multiple players that defend our causes and want to be the voice of players that are not heared or players that do not bother using this forum to voice their concerns?

Hence my reaction trough this post no doubt some of you will totally disagree but that is your right as it is mine to react and to voice my concerns and those of the WvW players inside Angel Hearts Clan.

1) Broaden the interest of players for WvW: why don’t you ask the players what the think the game needs?

You will have to forgive me when i say most of the players that use the game-forum are here to complain about things going wrong inside Guild Wars 2 and WvW,
the players not reacting trough the forum do not react because their opinion is not asked,
if you were to follow the logic of some of the ppl helping the developers that come from the fighting and lootbag guilds
they are noobs not worthy of having their opinion asked they don’t know anything about WvW,
just the fighting and lootbag guilds know what is needed, is that right?

It was funny when i talked to my guildies about WvW they had complaints but none of them had actually thought of using or
voicing themselves trough the gw 2 forum, thats how far the GW2-forum stands from the common WvW player atm.

Mainly this has to do with the fact that the idea circulates that when there is a problem Arena-net will solve it, there is no need to go further into it,
no need for the generally happy player to be concerned and yes they are careless in general players do not like to use forums its sad but it is true.
Its not just in this game that participation trough forums has diminished, generally saying players have grown careless.

We all wish the best for WvW, we all know WvW needs changes, we can bether all work together and make the best of it instead of creating half solutions that will not resolve the issues with which WvW is confronted?

2) Working towards a permanent solution

I have a solution though why does arena-net not do a POLL THROUGH THE ON-JOIN SCREEN LINKING IT WITH THIS FORUM with multiple selection options
reflecting all the posts that were created surrounding WvW, it would cover all the bases and you would have correct information about what the majority
of your WvW players want for the future of the game, you only need to add an option for players to react if they want to add some more thoughts.

At least it would be honest and give you a real idea about what is living inside WvW or do the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many?

This is just plain basic realistic logic free from all forms of powerplay, generalisation and it is neutral whereas the discussion on the Gw2 forums are not?

On top it would set a path to a real stable future for WvW which would be supported by the majority of the players playing WvW

Just to show players that we do actually care about all the aspects of the game and are free from outside influences, someone actually challenged me to produce a workable poll yesterday, well i took up your glove and accepted your challenge.
We did it with one little difference to your way of trying to change things in WvW though, we did it with respect not only for your opinion and players that have the same concerns as you have,
but added all possible options making it fair towards the entire WvW-gaming community. Seeing i had nothing to do well i could spend the time productively there’s nothing wrong with doing brain-execises isn’t there?
Just took me a couple of hours to come up with this draft.

B) The poll/ Survey itself

The poll itself needs to reflect all the thoughts that have been mentioned on the forum concerning WvW ensuring its neutrality! Players need to be able to select all the ideas they like if you limit it down you do not have an accurate oversight of what players desire for WvW.
The result would be a comprehensible Survey that would give Aren-net the facts and figures from the entire WvW gaming-community, allowing arena-net to know what lives within WvW and make the required changes to World Versus World.
The poll should be divded into a couple of categories being, avoid the use of subcategories it will make the survey less manageable unless its really necessairy:

- General changes
- Changes to the server-system
- Changes specific individual servers
- Borderland changes
- Eternal Battleground changes
- Edge of the Mists changes
- Personnal comments

C) General changes

This category reflects on the general aspects of WvW

1) we need more action

- the action is good as its now atm
- we need less action more focus on support
- we like to fight give us more fights
- make WvW more action packed

2) we need more rewards

-Do not change anything
-Less rewards
-more badges
-bether drops
-more money
-WvW reward tracks giving ascendet or legendary weapons
-WvW specific legenday weapons and armor
-gold silver bronze rewards for being the highest server on a daily basis based on PPT score of your Server
-gold silver bronze rewards for being the highest server on a weekly basis based on PPT score of your Server
-more competitions)

3) we need less PvE stuff in WvW

-less quests
-no PVE stuff at all

D) Changes to the server-system

There has been alot of talk about the fact that some of the servers are very low on population maybe there might be a more productive use for these servers.
There also have been alot of comments about the megaserver system not working as it is meant to and even tpo remove it.

- Do not change anything all is good as it is
- the megaserver system destroys the individuality of each WvW-server remove it pls
- increase the costs of moving from one server to another
- decrease the costs of moving from one server to another
- decrease the number of servers in total, increase the population on other servers
- remove obsolete servers
- leave the number of servers as it is
- make an international WvW-league
- add an Asian server to make 3-way fight possible (Europe-America-Asia)

F) Borderland changes

The Borderlands should reflect your server, they are you mainstay your homeland as you wish,defending it and protecting it should be something you always take care of,
despite being on another borderland. Atm the biggest problem for some servers is that most of their players are just stuck on EBG.

- keep the borderlands as they are
- reduce the borderlands to an area around a castle
- remove the borderlands from WvW
- take away waypoints
- add waypoints
- remove the emergency waypoint system
- limit the emrgency waypoint sysem (3 per borderland)
- increase the rewards for the Borderlands
- increase the droprate on the Borderlands
- decrease the rewards for the Borderlands
- decrease the droprates on the borderlands
- Leave the rewards on the borderlands as they are
- Leave the droprate as it is
- add specific reward tracks for WvW (ascendet weapons and armor) gained by fighting on the borderlands not EBG

G) Eternal Battlegrounds

Most ppl like EBG so not may changes a required, but still some things could be altered.

- Keep EBG as it is
- remove EBG
- reintroduce EBG as a map where the winning servers of the weeks matchup meet eachother after a weeks fight on the borderlands
- Limit the availability of EBG to the weekend after each matchup
- Reduce EBG to the area between the keeps and Stonemist castle
- Remove all PVE stuff from EBG
- add more PVE stuff to EBG
- increase the maximum amount of players allowed on EBG
- decrease the maximum number of players on EBG
- keep the maximum number of players as it is
- Turn EBG into PPK (point per kill) area which counts towards your home-server
- Remove Stonemist castle
- Turn EBG into one big open Killzone
- Turn EBG into a GVG zone

H) Edge of the Mists

Originally meant as a waiting area for players to rejoin the borderlands Edge has undergone significant changes,
its purpose has shifted from being a waiting area to the main experience and rank gathering spot in World Versus World.

- Keep Edge of the Mists as it is
- Remove Edge, its not fair i worked for my rank these players just farm it
- Decrease the experience players can get from kills trough playing Edge of The Mist
- Increase the experience players can get from kills trough playing Edge of The Mist
- Increase the rewards on Edge of the Mists for defending objectives, reduce the rewards for capping objectives
- Change the rewards and drops in Edge of the Mists into Badges of Honor
- add a reward chest for winning a match on edge of the mist at the end of each contest
- do not add a reward chest
- leave the rewards on Edge of the Mists as they are
- add diminishing returns for playing an entire day on Edge of the Mists

Interesting options. On ebg though, I would say the best area to improve gameplay would be the ogre, hylek, and dredge settlements. Except for the annoying dredge turrets, they don’t really do anything other than assist in taking and reinforcing a nearby camp once. They could do so much more.
Overall, the best buff to gameplay would be a significant buff to rewards. As said before, WvW is a full-time job in comparison to PvP and PvE, but it has the minimum wage of “in-game salaries.” Maybe more people would play WvW if they could recieve more meaningful rewards than T5 salvage mats.

Thats another thing which might be added to the poll.

- The often appearing fact of being attacked by the local wildlife when you got your mini-map up preventing you from zoning.

- like you mentioned the presence of non contributing PVE content on WvW maps, like the hylek event or the annoying dredge guns.

- and i think we all agree on the emptyness of our personnal purse and inventory, the lack of rewards and the expensiveness of WvW.

The rewards should be strategically implemented however to reward players for doing more rather than just come to WvW to farm. Reward players for fighting other players over objectives without the use of siege with Ascended and Legendary loot drops, PPK and XP and reward nothing for not fighting over objectives, siege damage on players or AFKing/ not fighting.

If they use rewards properly, it will resolve many issues with the game mode, not just bring in players to farm reward tracks. The primary focus of the game mode should be keeping players engaged in nonstop challenging, strategic, fun large scale PvP action the entire time they are on the map, rewards should just be there to make you want to do more and fight harder. Rewards should not just be there to mindlessly run around and farm like they do the world boss trains.

Yeah, they’d need to design it so the players need to be actively achieving things. We’ve already seen problems in PvP, with PvE players, that have no interest in PvP, paying experienced players, to get them up to Legendary Division, so they can get the Legendary Backpiece.

That kind of thing needs to be avoided as much as possible.

I have to say i find both your reactions awesome, you are ofcourse right.

WvW as opposit to PVP and PVE needs continuity players who offer up their valuable time to come each day to do WvW, those are the most loyal players Arenanet has, because for the last 3 years they were always there to play the game.

Reward tracks should be correctly implimented for players that actively participate in WvW on the borderlands, like Zynt mentioned.

What lil devils also holds truth alot of the issues players have with WvW would be resolved if Arena-net would be nice to us and grant ius bether rewards and loot for actively being present and participating and contributing in fighting and building up the borderlands. Thank you guys for your reactions keep em comming! :-)

There is a difference between reading simple well explained ideas and reading a tome. Yours is a tome and I neither have the time nor the patience to read it.

If you cannot simplify it, into bullet points, then maybe it is too complicated.

You don’t understand the notion behind it or you don’t want to saying you are too impatient to read it.

To make a long story short it its a fully worked out poll / survey (incluing an on-join msg for the entire WvW-playerbase that wishes to participate) showing all categories of WvW and selectable options.

Ofcourse its big all the options to make WvW a bertter game for the entire player-base are in there.

If you wish to simplify the poll you remove possibilities which might determine the evolution and the future of WvW.

I don’t think the opinions suggested in the above OP are complicated, they are however, short sighted and lacking a better understanding of what the majority players consider enjoyable in a large scale battlefield PvP game mode. INSTEAD it should work like this:

  • Points Per kill should be more important than Points per objective to the score, however you should get the most PPK, LOOT, and XP for fighting OVER objectives without siege damage on players. This way fight guilds attack and defend objectives because:
    1) The winning server actually kills more players over objectives and not just for PvD. so those players actually get credit for their efforts.
    2)Fighting other players over objectives without siege gives them more personal rewards and XP than K-training PvE lords for chests or fighting open field for bags.

The problem is thinking that those who play to win those who play for rewards and those who play for the challenge of the fight are at odds, when they are not, nor do they have to be. It is just the game mechanics are skewed and need to be aligned properly to make them all want to work together to accomplish common goals rather than be further divided due to bad game mechanics.

Server vs Server means to have the server work together to accomplish goals, and that is what will happen if the game is properly set up to do so. Roamers, havoc, scouts and Zerg are not at odds, they should all be working together, and will do so if the game is set up to encourage that. The OP mistakeningly does not understand fight guilds are not really at odds, and has a very unfortunately biased opinion of them, it is just the way the game is set up that needs to be changed instead and more value needs to be placed on player skill and contribution and give credit where credit is due so that PvP is the core focus on a Large scale PvP game mode. Proposals to further divide them just makes it MORE of a clusterkitten rather than improving it.

I think you made some excellent points in your post. I’d like to see the format poll like you did.

What I’d love to see is something where you log into your account and you get a mail from anet or even an email to your account. Please fill out this survey or click. We started something at my work place for reviews using that survey monkey thing. It’s really quick and easy, gets straight to the point and wouldn’t be that hard for them to incorporate. You’d think that would give them a % on what is important to their player base. It’s simple….really simple communication and an anet intern could create it with manager approval. Take that step anet

Only part I disagree with is the rewards. I’m more of a glory guy, hooray I killed someone 1v1 or I survived a 1v3. But, I can see at this point in the game we need all the bodies we can get in wvw. And if the little pvers could be baited with mats or gold if they participate so be it. I mean look at the past wvw seasons. PVERS EVERYWHERE, which meant more action! And just look at eotm, it’s pretty active even though I hate what its become.

MAGIC FIND IS A LIE

I’ve traveled from tier 1 to tier 8 and seen some awesome tactics. One soft spot is I feel for scouts and the players that escort dolyaks. These guys/gals deserve the biggest reward in the game. I could see something like escort x number dolyaks you get a staff with a massive dolyak head mounted on the top as a skin. Or mesmers, good god seen some sit in towers or smc for 2 hours, get a reward track to work towards and title “smc portal ninja” and get a weapon skin.

I think this relates to the ideas above, wvw needs something that one could work for THAT AVOIDS BLOBBING. Not take smc 10 times you get gold! I mean they could focus on the little zerglings but they need to think about the yaks bend guy that takes his scouting/dolyak escorting seriously, the dueler that has won x number of 1v1s obs sanctum is a great place to incorporate this, or gvg oriented guilds using obs sanctum again winning guild gets free banners/free mats for guild leveling/individual rewards or laurels. You could even use a ranking system, I think above all it may entice players to come back and build their guild legacy again. But it’s up to anet to identify gvg is an attractive mode for several guilds. To date….it’s all about that esports pvp junk nobody watches. I want to see great guilds be feared again in wvw. I want to roam and come across an enemy guilds again and frantically type in map chat “x guild at camp” because you know they are going to do some damage.

And most of all, base these rewards off anets little population analysis. I don’t think a T1 player can be compared to a T8 player in terms of “work put in”. Let’s face it, T1 you can get action 24/7 nearly and easy access to wxp where as T8 it can be a ghostland at times. Rewards should scale, for example T1 players have 20+ killing a tower lord they get the norm bag + those stupid bloodstones, a T8 player with 3-5 on tag should get 50% more loot or some scenario.

Anet, we are the kid in the neighborhood that is told “yeah…Santa Claus ain’t coming this year but little Susie Pver up the street, she’s getting an ezbake oven and lite brite!” Pay attention to us father and mother anet!!! We want love and cuddles.

E) Changes specific individual servers

  • keep current servers as PVE servers and create new , fewer ( for now, hopefully more as population returns, but change in number to match the number of people playing wvw), WvW servers that change every 3 months having players choose to play on for WvW for that " tournament". Give one free wvw server transfer every 3 months to help balance.
    ( This maintains current servercommunity structures allowing them to coordinate what they will do where they will go and allow for new WvW communities to form and keep match ups from becoming stale.
  • Most important, they need to email PAST WvW players who left to help increase the population to survey. They need to NOT POLL on join screen due to players coming in to just to farm mats and do dailies, and wvw is just another rock to mine and they could care less about the game mode. They need to ONLY POLL actual WvW players with a minimum number of player kills in WvW to start. They can poll general population after for opinions once they have the content created from actual wvw players to start. The important factor is to create the initial content from players who this is all they they do, because this is their " home" in GW2 and do not play any other mode.
  • Solving population balance issues nulls many of the options in your poll. No such thing as “nightcapping” since it is ALWAYS night somewhere. If players do not have people to play with and against anytime they log in and to form comradery and communities with the game mode is broken and needs repaired. You don’t limit players because of a defective system, and you dont just throw them together randomly and expect them to be a team when it changes every time.
  • Strategic implementation of rewards only or you create more problems than you resolve. Ascended and Legendary LOOT DROPS for killing attacking or defending players over objectives without the use of siege. No participation rewards, siege humping rewards, AFKer or anything K-train farm-able and you solve many malfunctioning issues in WvW at once. PPK is primary points, increased Xp and LOOT for killing players while attacking or defending objectives.
  • The difference in Tiers at that point is not going to be population imbalance, it is going to be more skilled server/ less skilled server. T8, for example, would be T8 because they didn’t kill enough players, not because it has empty maps. there would no longer be empty maps in play.

I would like to thank RodofDeath for his kind words, my guildies of Angel Hearts clan and myself have put alot of work into this positiv idea.

I hope ppl will follow up with more comments and that in the end this idea of a poll will become something Arena-net can work with, it would renew the current data and give more insight in what the broader WvW- game community would like to see happen with WvW and that is the goal!

It also would renew the ties with the forum and give players more reason to join into and to participate into this discussion.

I call it a discussion but its more of a brain exercise but basically the means are there for the forum and Arena-net to use it and its important because whereas PVP and PVE are game-formats that allow randomness in a certain sence WvW depends on continuity on loyal players that go into WvW most of them on a daily basis for multiple hours.

WvW is not served with random drops, rewards, events, upgrades etc,,, it needs a stable functioning basis, an open view towards its future, working interaction with its playerbase. you can only achieve this goal if you interract with the community in a broader sence.

Lil devils i agree with much that you are mentioning above, some of the options nullify each-other but all were mentioned with good reasons, they are all seperate options intended to add a broader perspective to all what is going on in WvW.

Sometimes these options are mentioned because they target something very specific inside WvW.

But you are right the total list of possibilities you can select was compiled in the matter of a couple of hours today.

Its a base to start from, that doesn’t mean it cannot be improved to suit better the needs of the entire WvW gamer-community :-)

With the help of all the ppl that mean it good with WvW we can do that :-)

Idk who you think the devs are listening to from “fight oriented guilds” but I can guarantee you that the majority of the fight oriented people have either left the game or are not in any way happy with the changes that have been made. If you think the devs are listening to those of us who prefer fighting, you’re unfortunately mistaken (if they did listen to us, things like dragon banners wouldn’t exist).

The banners yeah they are like the sword of Damocles double cutting edge, sometimes useful but it ruins the fighting spirit i can relate to that.

always keep in mind that a map must me organizable by the raid leader and players.

wvw will always be filled with new or random players wanting to explore a new game mode or to help the server a bit cause have time for that.

a new player who finds the way into teamspeak and introduces himself “hi im new can i be of any help here?” must directly be able to be part of the game taking place. “yes, ofc, do you see the tower in the west?” “yes i see it” “fine , i want you to go travel there and please tell me when you see any enemies on the way, i get to you back if you are at the tower”.

the new player must directly be on the way and if the raid leader asks 5-10 minutes later if the person arrived, it must be answered with a “yes” because the player was able to get there and not be struggling with some “not yet im here somehwere up in a maze”

the maps and all the systems must be usable by players on other players or for server related reasons.

i have no use for a pve sandstorm somewhere, id rather accept if enemies attack my keep and call a sandstorm to get some effect against me for some time. they attack me and they bring tools with them, everyone attention we inc now!

never ever a keep can build itself up. that must be up to the players. if noone does it our server wont have certain advantages and we all be about to lose.

in alot of different threads i always see people trying to reinvent the wheel of successful r vs r trying to invent new complicated maps, systems, try to define what wvw is and what not, that all wont help.

the main part in wvw has always been the players on the server and the interaction between them. who does what and when? you do that ? ok i go there and there and to this and that. its a matter of how can one server organize the thing and how much a map and its systems allow the players to do so.

if you see the systems on the desert map you can only ask yourself “how on earth could ever ever someone design and program such a thing?” a map which takes over tasks which made the players in wvw play together for!

every system must give all power to the people to determine when and what will happen. it must be that flexible that there is again what made wvw big. interaction between the people.

for future developement i would rather see a map where people must hold land instead of buildings. how the people keep the land shall be on their own. if there are keeps or towers or not shall be decided by the players , make us able to build the buildings on our own. if i leave wvw in the morning while people on the server started to build a tower somewhere and I come back in the evening and see the tower is ready i will be proud that my mates accomplished the teamtask with their own work, not because the map has build anything. you will find easy scouts and defenders that way, people are likely to defend together if they also build something up together.

i dont mind if there are certain junctions on a map where theres not much space around. eg. a pass in a mountain or such but it must be a strategic important point of interest for me. a tower i can build or conquer which gives me scouting advantage or some advantage to shoot with siege on other castle or such.

if you develope complex systems … they need to be usable by players and not be part of the map. they must be tools to use. please oh god in heaven leave the map alone

if it comes to systems i was always thinking about an official g vs g ladder. like to determine officially which guild does it best and the endresults of the season are counting towards the server wvw ladder even.

the server fight each week a match and the guilds give their part in that in form of gvg also.

that way you could still link a server to a guild to get the guilds be encouraged in the usual server life.

i know alot “random” player would fever with the guilds and vice versa when it comes to get it all connected in the end.

thats my view. get the people together and leave the map alone.

First and foremost, the spirit of player vs player gameplay is fighting. Everything else is secondary.

Second, there have been zero tournaments for almost 2 years. Almost nobody cares about ppt because it’s meaningless.

Third, those “fighting and lootbag” guilds are the ones you want on your side come tournament time.

Fourth, don’t generalize groups of players, be grateful they are still playing. This includes those of you who carry negative attitudes toward players in eotm as well.

Fifth, yes, wvw is made up of many parts, but the fundamentals need to be worked on first. Those are population balance, rewards and skill balance. The rest will come in time, but there has to be a starting point.

I remember one of the major problems on my server, was that people just wanted to PvD (Player v Door). No one wanted to fight. Instead all 3 worlds just played musical chairs. Cap a location, run to another one, cap a location that an enemy world has got, run to the next one etc.

No one ever defended. It felt like a big PvE zerg. I actually stopped going into WvW, because it became a ghost town. I’d go in and there’d be about 3 other people in map chat. It actually got to the point where my server had like 100% control of EB, because no one was playing.

I always loved the idea of WvW. It was the most exciting part of the game, but it ended up with people just avoiding the enemy, because of how it’s designed.

Its nice to see all your reactions, because it shows you wish to talk about your thoughts, opening up your ideas to other players broadens the perspective of the entire game.

Being open minded and not stuck in group versus group thoughts is also part of this idea, hence for the idea of a poll/survey all possible options wetter negative or positive were added to represent all of you.

The basic idea is to make the WvW-Community turn their interest back to WvW, the more players react and share their wishes and concerns, the broader the player-base will be that is able to direct Arena-net and the developers into helping us all to make a game that is more interesting, more stable and basically more enjoyable for all of you to play, to be part of because like i mentioned at the start of my posts WvW relies on loyal players that play this game on a daily basis.

These players that means all of you should be commended for being so loyal to Guild Wars 2, in fact basically they should treat you as heroes for all the time and effort you have spent playing WvW.

I don’t think rewards can actually considered to be enough for the effort you have all put in making WvW in Guild Wars 2 what it is. Because your loyalty is priceless it like a diamond that should be looked after, cared for and admired.

Regarding Teamspeak:

Ts 3 for short atm.

There is no point getting besides it Teamspeak is an integral part of any WvW-server, because we need it for interaction during the game.

I’ve noticed like you all have that the numbers on ts for WvW are dwindling its not just on the Community ts servers its also on the guild ts servers. There seems to be a problem with players wanting and willing to use it.

Some players even go as far as to tell lies implying their computers give errror-msg’s if they try to connect to ts, seen it myself. At the same time there has been an increase of use of skype that program they do seem able to use, i’ve heared they like to share their picture trough it and use microsfts modernized netmeetings.

I guess you cannot do anything about it.

This matter needs to be resolved on a guild level the WvW community servers can voice the need of using ts, the WvW-guilds need to make it a basic requirement on joining. This will not remove the issue that small pug-guilds will do what they want.

A real lasting solutyion would be an integrated communication system in Guild Wars 2, useable, but i do not think that will happen.

Another thing with ts is are you really sure the players that get on community ts are all new ones, i mean there alot of trolls on any of the community-servers, i wouldn’t be at all suprised to find players who i know to have multiple accounts part of several different guilds on them. That one will never be solved wink

Regarding the Organisation of the Server

Arena-net put alot of effort into organising a decent Squad-system, when i join most zergs and blobs, the commanders do not seem to use this system at their advantage , the options are there though.

Regarding overall control on a map

Communication is the key!

But communication fails often and we have focus group guilds that work apart from zergs and blobs.

Havoc, small offensive initiative and ambush-groups should not be part of a zerg or blob they have by definition another function then the group that surrounds the commander. They are comfortable in that role and useful. Add them to the commanders squad and they lose their use, they just add in the numbers and you loose the advantage of being able to strike at different locations at once.

WvW is no longer running around with the biggest zerg or blob and just running over your enemy or being defeated by them.

There’s more to warfare than just winning by numbers, i see alot of commanders joining maps in WvW and they get jumpy when the focus or small initiative guilds do not join them, fear is the killer, the unability to control and master a situation.

In warfare you have battlefield locations that give you an advantage, you do not control the outcome of the battle though, you send out groups of ppl with specific tasks you need to learn to delegate power.

A pug commander or open field commander as you wish to call it needs to rally the players from his guild and the random players to form a zerg or blob and go for major objectives.

Whilst a commander goes for the major objectives your small offensive initiative or havoc groups squads will target enemy players, camps and towers on the map to relieve pressure from the commander group (zerg, blob), your enemy cannot be at all places at the same time, its a proven battle-tactic , you might not agree with using it but it is part of conventional warfare isn’kitten

These two kinds of fights are different, either group doesn’t really want the other group to interfere with the progress they are doing and they will only help eachother when requested. best to ask over team-chat, both groups do not like to be interrupted or have to switch over channels on ts.

The real issue is what you get in return for experience for what all of you are doing, i actually agree with Swagger on that one.

We get rewards for doing the basic stuff but we are not rewarded for the bigger picture the totality of all which is going on, not that we are asking for it.

In a war you have several battles, but it is the culmination of all battlefield victories, attacks, initiatives, ambushes and tactics which leads to victory.

I agree totally.

WvW cannot be about just running around and capping stuff, if we want to do that we can go to PVE and do quests.

Defence of objectives needs to be re-evaluated and should be given more credit ingame.

You mentioned it aswell the focus should be on fighting wetter it be offensive or defensive.

The removal of overwhelming mechanics should be looked at aswell although that depends on your perspective no?

I mean, i see alot of ppl complaining about the overwhelming amount of mechanics at keep or tower present, but they are not complaininbg when they can use an emergency waypoint or chilling fog when they are defending?

Its a dubious situation?

As for a plain map without any keeps or a GVG map or league, i do not see the trouble in creating it, do you? i think it would make WvW gameplay as a whole much bether and would add to the battlefieldpossibilities, hence i added it into the options for the poll

You generalize too much and should look at things from a broader view.

Killing the enemy is the core of player vs player. All else is secondary and “winning” is currently meaningless without greater rewards.

Honestly, what do you win for defending a structure?

Answer is nothing.

What do you win for placing in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place?

Nothing.

When defending and winning really matter then players may care more, until then it doesn’t matter what players do inside wvw.

you are right ofcourse there needs to be more emphasis on actually fighting over the objectives wetter its defending or capping.

you are right ofcourse there needs to be more emphasis on actually fighting over the objectives wetter its defending or capping.

I already kissed WvW goodbye…

I paid for Elite skills, PvP gives me what I paid for. I don’t have time to grind 900 towers for each of my 18 characters to get them at a “competitive” level in WvW anymore.

Also, can’t organise guild builds while people don’t have access to everything.

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.
….. And Elementalist.

I gotta say, this was a rare gem of an opening post.

I mean opening up with telling the Development Staff that they can’t be Trusted with the Direction of the game, and I bet you believe that too, that you sincerely believe that the very people that crated this game to begin with can’t be trusted to continue the development of this game.

I’m sorry to hear that, for PVP since GW 1 you could do that buy a package that unlocked all the necessairy skillz to play at once, i remember some of the players i knew in GW 1 had. I wonder why they didn’t introduce it for GW 2. it would drastically lower the time needed to play.

The question is wetter they wanted ppl to start from the same level and have held onto that logic, because its more honest towards players that have actually worked towards getting their competitive lvl.

I understand the part of having the skillz unlocked for your entire team, maybe after a 2 years of gw 2 there should be a working unlock for the skillz for someone that is like only focussed on the PVP parts of the game?

Players and developers laughing is a good thing, a sense of humour is maybe needed to Get things back on track.

As for telling players through this post that the developers staff cannot be trusted those are entirely your words, my suggestion and the logic behind the post is to get the broadest possible response from the WvW-gaming-community about the future of WvW.

This response should come from evryone that really cares about WvW, seeing the usage of forums in general is dwindling, maybe the best solution would be to actually hold a poll/survey trough the on-join menu of the game linking them to this forum, where they could participate in a poll /survey.

The data gathered would be invaluable for Arena-net, and would give accurate data about what the majority of players really would like to see for WvW.

Hence i made this post including:

1) a reason why (because it concerns the entire WvW-gaming community not just the players reacting on this forum, i say this with the upmost respect for all of you)
2) a basic draft for a possible on-join msg
3) a basic set of selectable options divided over several different categories reflecting all aspects of WvW, including all options which players and groups of players have mentioned accross the GW 2 forum. Guaranteeing total neutrality.
4) a closing formula, including a question wetter a player would be interested in participating in future discussions about WvW on the GW2 forum, with room for a reaction

Granted the idea might not be perfect, it might need changes, but its a positive idea, which might work if we all work together. you all would like to know what players really want, you claim you know on the forum.

Why not take a leap of faith and ask them?

You might be surprised by the reactions in a positive way?

If my idea is foolish, not worth considering this post would already have been removed long ago. Maybe i’m naive to trust in the good nature of the players of WvW, but i rather do that, than laugh other players ideas away.

its an idea for a poll or survey to invite more players that are interested in WvW, to let them particpate and give their opinion abourt WvW throuigh the GW2 on-join menu linking it to this forum.

Basically i put down a draft with options that might be interesting to ask players and an end formula to invite them to participate more inside this forum. To see wetter we can get them interested again.

Its just an idea, a concept, its not flawless, there’s always room for improovement so that all the ideas in that are currently circulating in WvW, get sorted giving an idea what players really want. they just have to put a dot next to it. :-)
